Opt in to iAds???

This will sound crazy to most but is there a way to opt back in to the iAds?
I was given the opt out link and went there out of curiosity.
I'd rather have ads that were based on my interests than random ads show up. If they are gonna show up they might as well be based on my likes.

I too visited the page from an outside link and would also rather have targeted ads rather than random ones.

  • Opting out of iAds?

    so i went to oo.apple.com
and i got a message saying i was opted out of iAds but that i will still get ads but they wont be tailored to me.
if im still gonna get ads id rather them be tailored to me.
    so my question is,
    *did i understand this correctly?
    **is there more to iAds?
*is there an option to opt in (again)?

If an app developer includes ads with their app, which were included with most free apps before iAds, you can't opt out of seeing the ad banners included with an app by the app developer. You have the option of selecting or not selecting an ad to view the add in full as it was before iAds. The difference with iAds is when selecting an ad included with an app, the ad will be shown within the app without leaving the app along with being able to quit the selected ad at any time after it begins. Prior to iAds when an ad included with an app was selected, the app was quit with Safari being launched taking you to the ad. This quit the app. With iAds when selecting an ad, the app will not be quit - it will be paused with the ad displayed within the app. This is the only difference. You cannot opt out of ads included with a 3rd party app just as it wasn't possible to opt out of ads included with a 3rd party app before iAds.
Not sure about opting out or in for iAds being tailored to you.

  • IAd has an "Opt Out" clause :)

For those of us that HATE ads, and were hesitating upgrading to iOS4 because of the iAd app/portion of the OS/whatever, I found out that there is indeed an Opt-Out clause to tell Apple to NOT send iAds to your iPhone
    You need to install iOS4, and then go to the following URL from within the iPhone browser;
    http://oo.apple.com
You have to do it from each iPhone that's running iOS4, but it should opt you out of the program
See why it's GOOD to read the EULA? this was hidden 3/4 of the way down in the EULA

Unfortunately, this does NOT opt out of iAds. It opts out of "Interest based" iAds which means only that the ads you see are not tailored to your interests and you may see the same ads over and over. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4228 for the details. Sounded too good to be true, eh?

  • Mobile devices - running java ap'

I want to create an application that runs on an lcd display without plugging it into a PC. Is there a website that lists devices that can have the JRE installed.

Visiting http://oo.apple.com and opting out of iads wont help. I still get he same number of ads everyday. See what apple says after and before the opt out.

  • Loging in to firefox after going out

i am having problems logging in to yahoo dominoes
    with Mozilla Firefox

Why would you want to opt-in to iAds since it increases the amount of data you are downloading? What advantage to you get?
That is why many block ads on iPhone.

  • Avoiding iADs

In the event that I find the new advertising objectionable (very likely), will I be able to downgrade my IOS to 3.x? I noticed that Apple will allow me to opt-out of targeted advertisements, but not ads altogether.
Frankly, I don't see the benefit in installing iOS 4.x on my iPad if it will include advertising. None of the new features are worth having my life interrupted.

iOS 4 does not include any advertising.
Only third-party apps from developers who have chosen to incorporate iAds will have adverts in them.
If you object to developers making a living from their free Apps through advertising, you have the choice whether to download and use ad-supported Apps or purchase paid-for alternatives.
You also have the choice whether to click on adverts in Apps with iAds.
Incidentally, thousands of Apps in the iOS 3 you already use have adverts in them. This is nothing new, just a different company providing the ad functionality to developers.

  • Have been a Verizon customer since I got my first cell phone in my 30's - I am 50 now! A year ago, I stupidly opted to get a new phone on the EDGE program because I was trying my first Samsung device and was not sure I would like it having been an IPhone

have been a Verizon customer since I got my first cell phone in my 30's - I am 50 now! A year ago, I stupidly opted to get a new phone on the EDGE program because I was trying my first Samsung device and was not sure I would like it having been an IPhone user for years.I was right! Or so I thought.... The Note 3 has been horrible. I am on my second phone(replaced it under warranty) and it still freezes, shuts off on its own, and will not come back on for long periods of time. Having had enough, I decided to EDGE Up to another device. On March 16th I tried to edge up my device online but was unable to. I immediately called to figure out what the problem was. Back in October I had a mix up in my billing where I had set up a payment. It was not done properly by customer service and as a result my line was cut off. I called the EXACT day it went off, filed a complaint about the lack of follow through for my arranged payment, and thought I had it straightened out as the payment was made that same day. That incident, although it was a Verizon error, caused my Edge Contract to be "hotlined". I spent an hour on the phone on March 16th clearing the whole mess up. When the conversation ended, the Verizon representative admitted it was a Verizon error, documented everything, and then told me she was filing a release for the hotline hold that would take a couple of days. Her name was Linda and I stupidly trusted what she said.
The days passed as I prepared to have a major foot surgery and to get my classroom straight before I would be out recovering for 3 weeks. All the time, my Samsung continued to glitch out like it has since I got it! While sitting on the couch recovering, I decided to deal with the phone issue again and EDGE UP. I figured 10 days latter, Linda would have taken care of the issue. Unfortunately, I faced the same problem and was told it was not eligible to edge up at this time. BACK on the phone again, 2 supervisors, 3 customer service reps. ( JOE from New York being the rudest customer service rep. I have EVER worked with) and 4 frustrating HOURS latter, Jason, the equally rude supervisor from Rochester, New York, informed me that Linda gave me BAD information, there was NOTHING he could do, and I am NOT eligible until April 14th!!!!! The WORST experience I have EVER had with a company. They were completely inept, rude, and not concerned about my time, my frustration, or the problems I was facing with their product in the LEAST. I have 4 LINES on Verizon that I am going to talk to Sprint about buying out. It was a horrible experience, and I can NOT believe I have no recourse or anyone to talk to....

Edge has very clear restrictions, one being that you must have 6 months of clean payment history which you don't. Either wait until April 14, or good luck at Sprint.
I am unsure how it can be determined the payment mix up was the fault of CS, but regardless, the mix up was done. There can be any number of reasons why a payment could be missed without any fault on your part, however you are still the responsible party for the account and must live with the repercussions.

  • Google Analytics OPT-OUT Browser Add-on 0.9.6 doesn't retain OPT-OUT settings...never did really. Also JAVA now refuses to create updates for WinXP/FireFox.

I use PaleMoon now trying to get rid of advertising sharks. I have WINXP still - need assistive-technology computer for pain so taking time on getting new computer.
I have been severely sabotaged by advertising conglomerates selling my private information. They have no right -yet they do whatever they want. Anyhow...I've tried to OPT-OUT of EVERYTHING POSSIBLE. I've tried 5 places found. Google, NAI, DAA, & FIREFOX HELP said go to about:config was instructed to turn "from false to true" the "privacy.tracking.protection.enabled" .But I couldn't keep this setting because this also has to be set to false to use any saved log-on's to my accounts., and add-on AD BLOCK PLUS 2.6.7 when I was on Firefox & had some ticks and now it is disabled because it won't work with PaleMoon 25.2.1
This case is about GOOGLE OPT-OUT. Starting here: http://www.google.com/settings/ads?hl=en&sig=ACi0TCgWymel0CNWxdcnEWPzWNs9wDd7cVQHxHsmtz4w30CAyHk7MqyzzZdGh3m6FpDaJsKmunTLEvJZY5LAm3h6gIdzE30L-Q
There are 2 columns. The left one "ADS ON GOOGLE" NEVER RETAINS AFTER LOG-OFF. The right column "Google ads across the web
" seems to retain sometimes - if I remember right it falls off after a period of time as opposed to after just LOGGING-OFF. Below the columns there are options, but I don't have a GOOGLE ACCOUNT.
Also down there is this link: https://support.google.com/adsense/troubleshooter/1631343?hl=en ...you see the box with this: Advertising industry program participation
Google is a participating member of groups that have developed industry privacy standards like the Ad-Choices icon for online advertising.
    Group Location
    Network Advertising Initiative United States
Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) United States
    European Digital Advertising Alliance Europe
Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada Canada
....I clicked OPTED OUT FOR NAI on their link http://www.networkadvertising.org/
...I clicked OPTED OUT FOR DAA on their link http://www.aboutads.info/
...I clicked PROTECT MY CHOICES and downloaded the app.
These 1st 2 links used to have the same trouble and didn't retain ANYTHING and wouldn't re OPT-OUT ANY UNTIL THEY WERE SATIATED - saying I didn't have 3rd party cookies allowed when I did - this took hours.
I sent numerous trouble reports to them that they ignored - then I think I sent one to Firefox and it is much better but still not completely right. Today DAA retains 106 out of 122 and if I repeatedly RE-OPT-OUT successively I can get it to 121 out of 122 - never completely. (currently the one not taking is Accuen Inc. but it changes periodically - makes me think they set one up to take my info and then share it with all of them - lol )
Same for NAI currently I started with 94 out of 96 - next re-OPTED-OUT got it to 95 out of 96 and no further and same co. Accuen Inc (accuenmedia.com ) wouldn't update.
NOTE: I was copy/pasting the list of NON-OPT-OUT'S to them and my own document file to try and find trends/problems...now NAI programmers protected the list from being able to be COPIED AND PASTED!!! That's the opposite of being open and interested in making this work, right? Why would they want to allow us to OPT-OUT of their criminal espionage behavior...RIGHT? (lol) FYI: I recorded that the big one that was always retained before this one was...MEDIA MATH INC.
MANY Opt-outs would drop off while on-line and ALL would drop-off once logged-off. Now it's retaining most once logged off - but it hasn't been long enough to tell if they'll fall back into their bad habits as they've done before...
This has been going on forever for me - I've been reporting this malfunction since 2013.
Of course I downloaded PROTECT MY CHOICES FOR FIREFOX via NAI AND DAA'S links ...http://www.aboutads.info/PMC#protect-your-choices-for-firefox ............they both go to the same place???.....PROTECT MY CHOICES http://www.aboutads.info/plugin/install/firefox....that seems odd...it's as if they are the same entity then. ABOUTADS is DAA'S WEBSITE. NAI'S IS NETWORKADVERTISING.ORG so why would NAI use DAA'S PROTECT MY CHOICES app?
Lastely, I also requested that the COOKIES NAMES BE UNIFORMLY IDENTIFIABLE. All the OPT-OUT COOKIES that are to be forevermore retained on my computer and that I am to trust the EVERY FUNCTION OF - well they all have different COOKIE NAMES!! Most of the names you can not tell that they are OPT-OUT COOKIES!! - SO NOWWW They have created another problem.
We can no longer just "DELETE ALL COOKIES".
PLUS, we can no longer go through our cookies and delete individual ones that snuck through.
Every one of the OPT-OUT COOKIES SHOULD SAY "OPT-OUT" IWITHIN THEIR NAME OF THEIR COOKIE - PERIOD. RIGHT? (LOL) For real. Why was this mess was allowed?
REALLY IN MY OPINION THESE COMPANIES SHOULD BE BLOCKED AT THE LOCAL PHONE COMPANIES LEVEL - IN OUR SERVERS. We should not have to deal with them. Same thing with viruses, malware and such beasts. But I digress.
    In summary:
    1.)Google Analytics OPT-OUT Browser Add-on 0.9.6 doesn't retain OPT-OUT settings
2.) JAVA refuses to create updates for WinXP/FireFox/PaleMoon.
3.) DAA & NAI still don't retain ALL OPT-OUT settings and never completely OPT-OUT all companies.
4.) OPT-OUT cookies should be uniformly names with the words OPT-OUT in their titles.
5.) Ad Block Plus 25.6.7 doesn't work for Pale Moon and there is no alternative - (didn't work great in FireFox)
Right now I'm mainly interested in #1)retaining my GOOGLE OPT-OUTS while on line AND while logged off since it is attacking my computer and steeling all the speed until it freezes my keyboard.
Currently I am trying to remember to run through 3. OPT-OUTS every time I log on.
    Thanks so much!

If any more information is necessary please request and I will provide, as you can see there is more than enough memory and disk space for the installation. The only exception being that I am using a different 'oraInventory', 'gridhome', and 'oraBase'. I have looked closely at the output and the problem seems to be a file called 'ljavavm12', I have highlighted the line in bold above in the log output. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Alex

    Resolved my own issue,
for anyone else having the same problem, here is how it was resolved:
ljavavm12 is part of libjavavm12.a, for some reason this file was not copied into the $GRID_HOME, after doing so make went through fine.
    'cp /opt/oragrid/javavm/jdk/jdk7/lib/libjavavm12.a /opt/oragrid/lib/'
    Alex,

  • Terrance Devlin answered a question about iPhoto (4-2012) re:copying iPhoto Library to an ExHD, and losing all the albums. I can't locate the "Choose Library" when I open iPhoto with the opt button. Can anyone help?

I tried to move my images (over 25,000) to an External Hard drive to open up some memory, hoping to make my computer run faster. It took three hours to move the images and I see them all in the mac's menus. However when I try to open them with iPhoto now, none appeared. and when I tried to import them back to the main HD they come in to iPhoto just fine, but not with the albums nor any of the massive organization i'd created in the original. this represents years of images, and I can't imagine that I'd have to recopy them into folders/albums again.
Terrance Devlin answered a similar question back in April of last year. He said to make sure the ExHD is formatted to MAC OS Extended (Journaled) and to move the library to the ExHD and then open iPhoto with the option button and select "Choose Library" from the resulting menu.
Command "I" tells me that the new drive is formatted correctly. I can't locate the "Choose Library" when I open iPhoto with the opt button.
First, I wondered if the application needs to be on the same drive as the Library. I sure would like to know if I can find out how to restore all the folders I had them in. Terrance's advice helped the user that had asked the question.
Here's the url for that archived discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3849933?start=0&tstart=0
Can anyone help? I'm using iPhoto 5. My MAC is an OS X version 10.4.11.
    thanks, brokenlom

    Here are Apple's instructions:
If you are using iPhoto ’06 or earlier, you will need to follow these steps to tell iPhoto where the Library is now located:
Hold down the Option key on the keyboard and open iPhoto. Keep the Option key held down until you are prompted to create or choose an iPhoto Library.
    Click Choose Library.
Locate and select the iPhoto Library in its new location.
    (from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229 )
Below (in the link below) is what you should see when holding down the option key and opening iPhoto. Keep holding down the option key until this dialogue comes up. You want to select the Choose Library button.

  • [Solved] Organize the /etc/ /opt/ and /home w/o breaking anything?

+ What are the common organizing tactics that you use?
For example, if you're going to install anything, where do you put it, how do you do it with out breaking anything, etc.
My /etc/ /opt/ and /home folders are getting out of hand.
For my home folder, I have:
Desktop, Downloads, Dropbox (the only ones that I want here), meteor, node, nvm, nplay, pkg, python2-psutil, python26, src, sublime-text-2, try-meteor, packer (file), pacman.conf (file), and dead.letter (file).
How do I move these without breaking anything?
    For my /etc/ I have:
adjtime (file), adobe, anacrontab (file), arch-release (file), asound.conf (file), at-spi2, avahi, bash.bash_logout (file), bash.bashrc (file), bash_completion.d, binfmt.d, bluetooth, ca-certificates, ca-certificates.conf (file), chromium, colord.conf (file), conf.d, couchdb, cron.d, cron.daily, cron.deny (file), cron.hourly, cron.monthly, cron.weekly, crypttab (file), cups, dbus-1, dconf, default, depmod.d, dhcpcd.conf (file), drirc (file), enviroment f(ile), fonts, fstab (file), fuse.conf (file), gai.conf (file), gconf, gdm, geoip, group (file), group- (file), grub.d, grub-cutomizer, gshadow (file), gshadow- (file), gssapi_mech.conf (file), gtk-2.0, gtk-3.0, host.conf (file), hostname (file), hosts (file), ifplugd, iftab (file), ImageMagick-6, inputrc (file), iproute2, iptables, issue (file), java-70openjdk, kernel, krb5.conf (file), ld.so.cache (file), ld.so.conf (file), ld.so.conf.d, libnl, libreoffice, locale.conf (file), locale.gen (file), localtime (file), localtime (file), login.defs (file), logrotate.conf (file), logrotate.d, lvm, lxdm, machine-id (file), mail.rc (file), makepkg.conf (file), man_db.conf (file), mdadm.conf (file), mercurial, mine.types (file), mke2fs.conf (file), mkinitcpio.conf (file), mkinitcpio.d, modprobe.d, modprobe.dconf (file), modules-load.d, motd (file), mtab (file), nanorc (file), netconfig (file), network.d, NetworkManager, ncsd.conf (file), nsswitch.conf (file), obex-data-server, odbc.ini (file), ODBCDataSources, odbcinst.ini (file), openldap, os-release (file), pacman.conf (file), pacman.d, pam.d, pango, passwd (file), passwd.OLD (file), passwd- (file), pcmcia, pkcs11, pkgtools, pm,  polkit-1, ppp, profile (file), profile.d, protocols (file), pulse, rc.d, rc_keymaps, rc_maps.cfg (file), redis.conf (file), request-key.conf (file), request-key.d, reolv.conf (file), rpc (file), salt, securetty (file), security, services (file), shadow (file), shadow- (file), shells (file), skel, speech-dispactcher, ssl, sudoers (file), sudoers.d, sysctl.conf (file), sysctl.d, systemd, tmpfiles.d, tor, totem, udev, udisks2, updatedb.conf (file), UPower, vdpau_wrapper.cfg (file), wgetrc (file), wpa_supplicant, X11, xdg, xinetd.d, xml, and zsh.
How do I learn what can be deleted here and how do I move things without breaking anything in /etc/? Is there a program that highlights what's important, what can be moved, etc.?
    For my /opt/ I have:
    android-sdk, dropbox, and tor-browser-en.
This doesn't bother me, but I can see that somewhere in the future where it can get cluttered.
I also have created a folder on my root called ptmp and am using it to store my packertmp-0 files since my tmp folder gave me an error. I want to do things right and not get that cluttered too. So if you know about this check the thread out here
As a new Arch Linux user, coming from Windows 8, everything is great except a few minor annoyances. I give it an 7.8/10 for bring stable.
I will open up new threads for the following, but here are the few minor annoyances I still have:
If I edit what show up on my main menu (with main menu, not menu editor [from gnome]), somehow things get re-highlighted as if I clicked restore to defaults-- so I can't edit what I don't want to show up in my main menu anymore.
I forgot what file I edited that I made Chromium run at startup and now it slows things down by running at startup.
I couldn't exchange nautilus for dolphin (I like dophin better), and couldn't get xmonad going although I got the dependancies installed (Haskell, etc.). It throws me this error:
Please check the file for errors.
/home/jayvan/.xmonad/xmonad-x86_64-linux: executeFile: does not exist (No such file or directory)
    xmonad:
xmessage: executeFile: does not exist (No such file or directory)
X Error of failed request:  BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)
Major opcode of failed request:  2 (X_ChangeWindowAttributes)
Serial number of failed request:  7
Current serial number in output stream:  8
I can't remove the Universal access applet. I don't need it. This should be removable.
There is no longer a high performance, low performance, balanced option for battery consumption. This should make a comeback.
I somehow edited my information of my user and it's not editable through system settigns. It shows my company, phone number, etc. I manually entered a command that I forgot in the terminal that did this. I'm not sure. This should be easily editable in Gnome 3. I don't know why it isn't.
I've created a news user and don't know how to delete it.
I couldn't get mp3tag to work with packer because it didn't have a PKGFILE. Will be trying to manually make it some time later, but it should be fixed in the AUR.
I would like to uninstall the Epiphany Browser. Desktop Search, Power Statistics but don't know how. I know it's -Rns.
Sublime Text 2 doesn't show up as a desktop item in the applications folder, I have to go to the folder and click sublime_text to launch it.
When I change YouTube to anything higher than 240p, it doesn't play and I have to refresh it.
Grub-sustomizer should come installed with Gnome, especially for those that want to dual boot Android OS (x86) or anyhting else. In fact, in the installation guide there should be a warning that if you plan to install another OS like Android OS (x86) you should partition an extra 16 GB as ext3, or if you want to install another Linux distro to partition an extra 20GB as ext4.
There isn't any multitouch gestures pre-installed that I can configure. I'll see if they even exist.
I haven't check but I'm not sure if there is a good screen capturing app.
Last, so I can switch all my friends to Arch, they've already taken an interest an I plan to do a blog post about it once I feel confident, how can I customize this scrip to install the apps I already have installed?
I'll get to posting these in seperate threads right now.

Ohhh man, you're making me nervous! Are you copying your files around your operating system yourself?
jjshinobi wrote:What are the common organizing tactics that you use?
The answer to your question is, I don't organize anything. Instead, pacman keeps track of all the files.
The only files you should need to worry about are what's in "/home". You can organize that however you want. If you have many ebooks, create a directory called "Books". Whatever.
Your story kind of reminds me of my roommate in college. As soon as he finished installing Windows XP, he would go through the entire directory structure and delete anything that was "unnecessary". It kind of scared me.
But fortunately, we don't have to do that with Arch Linux. Pacman takes care of everything, and it's super easy to create your own package.

  • My Safari shortcut Cmd+Opt+B doesn't work. Please Help.

    Hi fellow MacBook Pro Users,
My Safari shortcut Cmd+Opt+B, to show and hide all bookmarks doesn't work.  The same shortcut is used in a third party app Scrivener and it doesn't work there too.  I had a look at all my keyboard shortcuts listed in System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts and don't see the shortcut listed there.  Also I checked my triggers in Quicksilver and didn't see the Cmd+Opt+B shortcut there too.  Any idea how I can fix this?  Had this issue for a long while now.
    Thanks!

  • I'm using iA Writer on my new iPad. I've opted to store doc's from this app on iCloud. Now I'm unable to access iCloud and retrieve my doc's so I can continue writing. Needless to say this is very frustrating. Is there a solution for this issue?

Please, need help. I'm using iA Writer. I opted to store doc's on iCloud and now I find I'm not able to access iCloud in order to retrieve said doc's. A solution to this dilemma would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Satya

    iA Writer on iDevice:
Look at the Storage List, there should be an iCloud entry (along with iPad/iPod/iPhone, and Dropbox).  Choose iCloud to get a list of documents.
To write a new file:  Be sure to have iCloud chosen in Storage.  Create new doc, write and click on the Storage list.  File is written to iCloud.
    iA Wrtier on Mac:
Write file and save locally, then choose: File>iCloud>Move to iCloud.
To read a file:  File>iCloud>[choose file name]
I should add that files read by iA Writer must be files created by iA Writer, either on same device/computer or another.

I may have misunderstood your post.  If my ipad is not connected to the internet, I can still open a file I had saved on iCloud (only this is the "local" copy of it).  When I'm done, it's saved locally but when I turn on wifi and access the file again and then press the Storage List icon, the file is saved to iCloud.  Are you saying that you can't open a local copy when not connected to wifi?

  • When I opt to "download this as a file" from my email account, Firefox defaults to notepad to open the file. How can I change the default to MS Word?

    Question
When I opt to "download this as a file" from my email account, Firefox defaults to notepad to open the file. How can I change the default to MS Word?

Is FF downloading the file as a .txt file? If so, go to "Folder Options" in the windows control panel. Click on the "File Types" tab. Scroll down until you reach the TXT file extension. Look to see what that extension opens with (lower part of panel). It probably shows notepad. Click on the <Change> button. Scroll down until you find "Microsoft Word." Select it and click the <OK> button. That should show the TXT extension is now associated with Microsoft Word. Click the <Close> button at the bottom of the panel.
If FF is downloading the file as any other type, use the same process as above except look for the corresponding extension instead. If the extension is not listed click on the <New> button and create an association using the extension in the file name and then associate it with MS Word.
