Opteron 185 and K8N Neo4-F compatibility?

Does anybody know if Opteron 185 and K8N Neo4-F (v 1.0) works together? There is nothing about Opteron 185 in MSI's CPU-support page (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support.php). I have the last BIOS (v 1.D 2006-5-24).

Yes it works, with PCB ver. 3 and should work with ver. 1 also, even though the official cpu support page for both do not list the 185 yet.  It sometimes takes them a while to test and update.

Can anyone tell me if they're compatible? How well would it overclock? Any links to Opteron overclocking would be appreciated. Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, the 144 is a single core CPU & it should "drop right in" with no changes.
The OC'ing potential is great for that CPU, I've heard of close to 2.7-8. But it all depends on your parts.
Might want to head over to the Overclockers section & see if anyone else has that setup.

  • K8N NEO4 Platinum cold boot problem with 165 opteron?

I have this board and have a cold boot problem with my opteron. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Its starting to get very anooying.
    K8N NEO4 Platinum
    165 opty dual core
    2X1GB Ballistix PC4000
    160GB sata2
    7800GTX
    X-Fi platinum
    600 watt seasonic PSU

Well I am running them at the rated speed of 250 and the rated timings of 3-4-4-10 on the rated 2.8 volts. Ballistix have been known to die quickly when you throw to many volts at them for some reason. I dont get the cold boot problem with the OCZ. Once I finally get it to boot with the Ballistix it works just fine but the next morning I play hell to get it to boot again. I dont even get the main screen to let me get into bios. It just stays black. I have done all kinds of stress testing and ran memtest with no problems. I am really at a loss here.

  • MSI K8N Diamond PLUS e AMD Opteron 185

    Hi
I have a MSI K8N Diamond PLUS (bios v.1.2), from the website the AMD Opteron 180 2.4 GHz socket 939 is compatible with the board.
No compatibility info about  the cpu AMD Opteron 185 2.6 GHz socket 939. These 2 cpu are very very similar (only different clock).
Do you know if it's really compatible with MSI K8N Diamond PLUS
    Thanks in advance

It will work fine but isn't officially supported. Therefor post screen could show "unknown processor" but that's all.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum random lock-ups and BSOD

I built a new PC about 3 months ago and from day 1 it has always locked up / frozen at random intervals. Sometimes it also BSOD's with a Machine Check Exception. Seems to lock up / freeze more often when have multifple windows open eg. Multiple IE running but really is random. I have replaced the Mobo and Ram but keep having the same issues. Have tried a clean install but no luck either. Did a clean install on an old IDE HDD and seemed fine but it did not have all of the software that I run on the SATA drive. Thinking the SATA drive may be the issue? Please Help!!!
    System is as follows:
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum [Bios 1.D]
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ DC [AMD Drivers]

    Seemed fine?
There isn't really be any difference between an IDE drive and a sata.
Except that the sata drive needs some drivers as your installing the os.
Check your ram timings in bios but likely it's your psu.
Which components are on which rail?
The ones that use the +12v are your cpu, cdrom, dvdrom and graphics card.
Try disconnecting both roms and see if it improves things?

  • K8N Neo4 and Memory

Hi.  I'm running 32-bit XP Pro and I need more memory but my K8N Neo4 is fully populated with 4 x PC2700 512Mb dimms.  I'm planning to buy 2 x 1Gb PC2700 dimms and use two of the existing 512Mb dimms.  I've looked at the manual for my m/b and it leaves me confused when it refers to double-this and double-that.  Can someone help me by telling me if the following memory would be suitable for my board:
    http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=pc2700+ddr&rls=com.microsoft:en-gb:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7GGLG_en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=12882859307161477854&ei=AotAS7HBLqL00gS_1KiSBQ&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CCUQ8wIwAg#ps-sellers
With my limited understanding of what should go where, I'm planning on putting the two 1Gb dimms in the green slots and the 512Mb cards in the purple slots.  Does that sound right?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hello!
What processor and PSU have you got? What is your exact motherboard? http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=searchresult&keywords=K8N+Neo4+
One-sided memory is where memory chips, the thin black boxes on the memory sticks, are one side. Double-sided where chips are on both sides.
If you have the K8N Neo4-FX you can use up to 4 GB of memory. Your OS can't see that much. Even it may sound a little uneconomical to you, I would replace all the smaller sticks for 4 x 1GB of memory, in two kitted pairs. Should be DDR, PC2700, Non-ECC, Non-REG, 2,5 volt. It isn't certain Dual Channel will be enabled, but the size will do the difference anyway.
However the memory in your link isn't optimal for Nvidia chipsets. Corsair is what I would get.

  • MSI K8N-Neo4 and PCI-E x4

    Hi Folks,
I've got an MSI K8N-Neo4 (MS-7125) motherboard that I'm looking to add a RAID card to.  It's got a PCI-Express x4 slot on the board that I'd like to utilize.  However, I've seen some conflicting information regarding it's use.  In the manual on page 2-26 it states "PCI Express x4 Slot (Support PCI-E x2 device Only)".  However when I look at the webpage for the board at http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum& it makes no mention of this limitation.
The main reason why I'm wondering is because I'd like to add a HighPoint RocketRAID SATA raid controller to my system.  If the slot can handle x4 cards, then I'll purchase the 2310 model, which is an x4.  If it cannot, then I'll purchase the 2300, which is an x2 model.  I've seen some mentions of other people on the forums with K8N-Neo4 boards using the 2320 (an x4 card with 8 SATA ports instead of 4 on the 2310), but haven't seen what sort of bandwidth they're getting.  Are you actually able to get PCI-E x4 bandwidth out of this port?  Or will it downgrade it to PCI-E x2 or PCI-E x1 (the PCI-E spec says that when cards a plugged into a different size port they only need to be supported at x1)?  Or, and even better question, will it even work?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Those are not different then from what's on the motherboard
Want a real one? Look at this: >>Real one!<<
    That's real raid controller.....
What you mention is just the same as the onboard stuff.
As for the Linux raid stuff, I presume you mean the Linux Software raid, no those controllers aren't that good, but the High-points aren't that good either.
Heck, they don't even have their own CPU or memory.....the one I showed you has and is WAY faster
(PS. sample given is PCIx, won't fit your board, but that's a raid controller!)
Okay, that still doesn't answer my question about the PCI-E slot.  You make a decent point, but I was more using the Highpoints as an example and because they came up in several searches of the forum.  For the sake of getting a real answer, lets assume it is a real RAID card, such as the PROMISE SuperTrak EX8350 RTL, which according to the Serial ATA on Linux page is a real raid card and all that.  Will it work in the PCI-E x4 slot on the MSI K8N-Neo4 Platinum or not?
All I really want to know is if the slot can actually run a PCI-E x4 card or not.  The documentation contradicts itself.

  • Confused - whats the difference between K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum and Diamond??

MSI web page says the Diamond has:
"Silicon Image's SATA RAID supports another 2 SATA II ports. Transfer rate is up to 300MB/s."
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=638
their Platinum page doesn't list the Silicone Image raid as a feature on the Platinum.
I have K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum and it has the Silicone Image raid - I'm using it now.
    Can anyone explain this?
Another question:  for both boards it shows:  "NV RAID (Software) - - RAID function available for ATA133 + SATA HD drives or 2 SATA HD"
How can the Raid fuction work for ATA133 drives since the cables for SATA and PATA are different?   What do the mean Raid for 133?
    Thanks!!!

  • K8N Neo4 (MS-7125) USB, Mic, S/P Out, and LAN ports all non-functional

I'm hoping someone can give me a hand with this.  I'm not a novice when it comes to motherboards but this particular board is making me feel like it.
Ok, I've got a K8N-Neo4 MS-7125 model.  Athlon64 3700.  I have all the current drivers and ran the liveupdate to make sure.
The LAN port will light up, but the Device manager will not recognize it, nor will the LAN utility.
The board has 4 USB ports.  The top two are non-functional, the bottom two work.
The S\P OUT port has never worked, nor do I know how to engage it or find it on the device manager
The microphone....this one is fun.  Its like the microphone is stuck in a feedback loop.  Whatever comes through my speakers, is heard on the other end by other users.  I am not heard at all, although I can hear myself through my OWN speakers.  Even with the mic unplugged, people still can hear my speakers.  Imagine having your speakers plugged into the mic jack.  The only way to kill the feedback is to actually go into the sound manager and mute the whole mic system.
I can live without the LAN and USB ports, but it would be a HUGE help if someone can help me with the mic and S\P ports!!
    Thanks!!!

Ok, I'll do my best to remember everything
    Athlon64 3700 939socket
    XP Pro Service pack 2
    Rosewill case 400watts
    SonyDVDRW Drive (dual layer)
    Samsung DVD drive

120GB Seagate 7200 RPM Harddrive  (IDE) Partioned two drives
    1x512DDR ram  PC3200 400mhz
As for the flavor of the NEO4 the only other numbers I know of, is on the board it says N1996 right below the processor.  Is that what you need?  Its a PCB V.3 board nvidia Nforce4.
    Speakers are standard cyber acoustic
    Logitech Mic/Headset combo
This particular case allows for hookups for headphones and mic in the front.  The case has jumpers in the back that allow you to gain access from the front (but you probably already know that).  I've always used the front MIC/Headset jack, and I have a splitter in the back for the headphones and that jumper.  In trying to resolve the issue, I tried every jack with the microphone (even the ones that I know are labeled as speakers).  I do get my own voice through MY speakers on the front jack AND the mobo jack.
Hopefully I got you enough info!
    Thanks in advance!!!

  • K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum and Dual Core

I just received my new MSI K8N Neo4 LSI Platinum motherboard and I am waiting on my new processor AMD Athalon64 dual core 4400+. My questions are:
    1. If the bios on the motherboard is not the latest one will the motherboard boot with the dual core processor. If not what are my options?
    2. If I manage to boot, and all the components are new, assuming I will boot into DOS, can I make a bios update from there or I need to install Windows and then do a bios update?
    3. And what are the bios update procedures for MSI motherboards?
Thanks a lot guys for help

    hi,
In order to use dual core CPU on the MB, update BIOS to the latest version (3.4 and above) before using it. After flashing BIOS, please enter BIOS Load Optimized defaults, Save&exit it, then change CPU to dual core one.
For how to update BIOS, refer to:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/html/support/bios/note/award.htm
You can use the dual core without updating the Bios. However, your second core won't work until the update. So you can use the cpu without the correct bios version to install windows.

I want to be able to create some custom EAX settings but I can't seem to find any way to do that on the SB Live 24 bit that's integrated on the K8N Neo4 SLI Plat board.  Is anyone able to do this or is it a limitation of the integrated SB Live 24 bit?  I hope it's not the latter...  Thanks.

  • Difference between K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI and K8N-SLI Platinum

Hey guys.... I have one question and i hope you can help me.
I'm about to get an MSI SLI Platinum motherboard, but it seems that there are two versions, the K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI and the K8N-SLI Platinum.
What is the real difference between them? As i can see in the manual, the Neo4 version has the additional SATA2 and Gbit LAN controller.
Anyone: Does your K8N-SLI board have 4 or 6 SATA2 ports? and 1 or 2 LANs?
At this picture  http://www.midtdata.dk/asp/index.asp?varernr=K8N-SLI-PLAT&goto=productinfo&mainfunc=link I can see that there are 6 blue SATA connectors (lower right corner), and 2 LAN ports left to the LPT port... But the description says 4 SATA and 1 LAN, and so says the manual.
To all owners of this mobo:  Does this picture look like your K8N-SLI Platinum or does it look like your K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI ?

  • Problems with K8N Neo4-F and eVGA 6600GT

Alright, I just built a new PC after my last computer died. The specs:
    MSI K8n Neo4-F
    Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice)
    1 GB Corsair PC3200 RAM
    eVGA GeForce 6600GT (PCI-Express
    Antec TruePower 550W PSU
Now, when I turn on the computer it seems to boot up okay, except for the fact that, well, I get no video. However, when I hit delete to enter the BIOS, I do get a picture on the screen - but it's horribly scrambled and I can't make out anything whatsoever. I can tell that it's properly going into BIOS because I can vaguely see the selection bar which moves when I press up/down, but I can't do a thing besides that. I have no realy clue what the problem is, especially since I can't even do a thing yet. I checked to make sure the card and power connectors and everything are properly seated... Could having a 20-pin connector in a 24-pin mobo make it do this? Or is it something far more sinister, like a dead video card?

Bought another PCI-e video card and still doesn't work. Guess the motherboard is bad. Ordered an Asus this time. Disappointed with the lack of help from MSI in troubleshooting/solving the problem. I had to buy a regular PCI video card and two new PCI-e video cards just to see were the problem might be; swap-tronics troubleshooting on my dollar($), that sucks...
