Optiarc BD 5500A doesnt read bluray discs anymore?!

I've been having this problem for some months now...
The reason i only start to worry now is that i had this problem once in the past and i got fixed after a few days (by itself!).
So i was hoping the same would happen now and i dont watch that much bluray discs (i own a lot of dvd's, but not much blurays). So i waited and hoped it would fix itself like last tima but it doesnt ...
The problem:
Windows explorer tells me the drive is empty (while there is a bluray disc in the drive)
Off course i cant play it in my player (because windows cant find the disc)
When i put the disc in and close the drive, i hear the disc spinning for a moment and then it stops (probably because it cant identify it?)
DVD's and CD's work great. Its only bluray discs.
What i've tried:
Deleting the driver, rebooting and resetting the bios.
Deleting all DVD/CD/Bluray related software (mostly players and burn/backup software) and reinstalling.
Didnt work!
If someone has any more suggestions?
I really need it for work! All the project files are on a bluray disc!!!!

Hello We recommend downloading the latest version of MediaSmart DVD SW and then even upgrading it withing the SW itself - Look for updates as required by new BLU Ray movies with new formats.
WHat is the name of the BLU RAY movie you tried to view?

Satellite P855 - ODD will not read BluRay discs

Hi.
I have a little problem with my blu ray. Every CD or DVD discs works. But when i put blu ray disc my drive can't find this disc. I download newset update for blu ray but when i install a message pop out: "A later version of 'Toshiba blu-ray Disc player' is already installed on this machine. The setup cannont continue." How i can fix that?

The notebook was definitely equipped with an Blu-ray drive and you should be able to play Blu-ray disks.
What Windows system and what Toshiba Blu-ray Disc Player software is installed on your notebook?
On the Toshiba EU driver page you could find the update Blu-ray Disc Player v1.0.5.207 for Win 8.1 system
For Win 7 64bit you can download the v v1.0.5.207 and v1.0.3.196_A
But note!!!
This is ONLY an update. Its not a full version and this update requires the previous installed Blu-ray disk player software
Anyway, you could also use some 3rd party software in order to play BD disks.
For example VLC player is able to handle the BD disks

My ENVY 17 3D's Bluray drive does not read any disc.

I got a refurbished ENVY 17 3D (i7 740Q) and having a bluray drive issue.
When I insert a disc in to the drive it keeps spitting the disc out after a few seconds. And I can't hear any motor spinning sound. It's weird, I mean at least it should be reading the disc then spit it out, on the other hand it do exist in my SYSTEM. I didn't have a single burning CD software installed but I did install an iTunes. Should I return it to HP?

Anyone has solution to this, before I decided to send it to HP for repair?
I tried the Optical Drive Diagnostic using HP support assistant, but since the drive keep ejecting the media (CD/DVD/BR) for testing, I can't complete the diagnostic. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the latest drive update, still the same problem, even with the latest BIOS update.
I even went with a complete system recovery reboot and still can't solve the problem. The BR drive worked fine since it's recognized by the system, and Windows does not show any error. So why does it keep ejecting the CD/DVD/BR?
This happened out of the blue btw, so I have no clue what caused the problem. It was working fine like moments ago.

Super drive doesnt read disc

my super drive hasnt been reading any disc's i have tried putting them in my other mac and it works fine.. can anyone help, where i can get a new super drive and how to install it??

I was having a few issues with my superdrive, so i opened the case and checked the connections. It works fine now. The connection is a "snap" connector, and it may have dislodged. My drive wouldn't accept a disc, but the OS thought it was working fine.
I also reseated the video connection, and it stopped the annoying "fading" in and out of the display.
I noticed some people were fixing the problem by squeasing the laptop, and this connector could be smashed back into place with some luck, but with the right tiny philips, you can easily open the cover to access the ram, and it's all right there.

I have a 2006 iMac that I've upgraded to each new os as they came out. I just wiped it (for the kids to use, I have a new iMac with Mavericks) and reintalled Tiger from the original discs. I want to get it back to Lion - which I purchased from the Mac App Store. But Tiger doesn't have the App Store and I don't have the discs anymore from the intermediate versions. I tried downloading Lion from the new iMac but it's not available...

To get to the App Store, you need to upgrade the Tiger machine to Snow Leopard.

Connecting Wireless Samsung BluRay Disc to Airport Express Network

I am trying to connect my wireless capable Samsung BuRay Disc Player to my Airport Express Network. The Samsung keeps telling me to check my IP Address, DNS Server, Gateway etc. I have tried to set it up using the auto option and using the manual option. Neither is working. How do I check that my IP address, etc. is correct for connection??

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
I looked at a manual for a Samsung Bluray Disc player. They seem to have left out an important capability: the ability to choose a wireless network and supply its password.
You may be able to use the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) capability, although that is said to be tricky between Apple and non-Apple equipment. Use AirPort Utility to put your AirPort Express into "manual setup" mode. Invoke the menu option Base Station -> Add Wireless Clients. Then follow the player's instructions for "PBC (WPS)". Use the AirPort Utility option "First attempt". The AirPort Express' status light will turn blue while it waits for a connection from the player.
I have no direct experience with this. All the above information came from the electronic book "Take Control of Your 802.11n AirPort Network" (http://www.takecontrolbooks.com/airport-n).
I have no relationship with Take Control Books other than that of a customer.

A205-S7464 DVD Drive doesnt read cds!

I have a A205-S7464 Laptop. running windows vista home edition sp1. my dvd drive doesnt read any cds! i dont know whats wrong. Could it be a driver issue? does it need to be updated or is the drive defective all together? the drive shows up in windows explorer and in the hardware devices it says its working properly! the drive is HD TS-L802A ATA. Driver 6/21/2006 ver. 6.0.6001.18000.
I just restored my system with the recovery disc. it read that fine. then i updated to vista sp1. didnt check if it read any cds before the update but doesnt read any cds now.... i think its a software issue the drive tries to read the cd but never actually reads it....

Hi-
Try downloading and installing the Patchburn Utility. It might help your media reading. I assume this is a disk that someone burned? Could be your drive doesn't like the media, itself, or the burn speed was too high for your 5x DVD=ROM to read.
If Patchburn doesn't help, may be time to move up to a more modern drive to replace your antique.....

Hi: Looking at your other posts it appears you have painted yourself into a corner. Since there is no legacy or auto USB setting in the BIOS, your only option would be to remove the hard drive, put it in a USB to sata notebook hard drive enclosure, plug it into another PC so it can be read, download the applicable drivers you need and copy them to you user profile on the removed hard drive. Bluray disc not recognised on HP Touchsmart IQ525UK, using Windows 7.

I recently bought myself the above PC, & paid the extra £22 to get the upgrade to Windows 7. I've now bought my first bluray disc, but when i put it into the drive, nothing happens. the drive doesn't even appear to 'see' it. I didn't have the disc before i upgraded to 7, so i don't know if it would've worked on Vista or not.
Any suggestions anyone? i really want to watch this movie, so any hints or tips you have would be greatly appreciated.

Hey dianbrat, i too have almost the exact same issue (on an IQ505a) , except that I can touch the icon on the bottom right, and it will launch the app, but it takes FOREVER!!! Also, for some reason since upgrade to 7, the actual 'touch' function has gone! The screen beeps, but no cursor moves etc, have all the latteset downloads from HP, tried recalibrating, etc etc....alos read elsewhere to try PC TABLET INPUT, I can locate it in search but clicking on it does nothing.... thoughts? Suggestions? (Appreciated as I am going outta my mind trying to figure it out).... Cheers

Blue ray drive not working all of a sudden and not reading any discs

I am using hp hdx 18 laptop which is a few years old and it was working fine until recently i found that the drive doesn't read discs anymore but the device manager shows it's fine and it tries to read by spinning and making noise and then stop
I tried to boot the machine from dvd in setup but it will just go straight to HDD bootup.
is it busted? just wondering what I can do to see if there's anything I can do before getting an external drive

It could have failed as suppected. When you tried to boot to a DVD or Restore disk, did you remember to change the boot order to DVD/CD first device?
The drive is normally a replaceable device but an external device should work OK, too.
