Optical audio and display port

my question is about the display port and optical audio. This both devices has the same quality? if not, why the MACs doesn't have the optical audio? tks

both are digital it's 0's and 1's quality dont end up with 1/2's and -1's so all digital audio would be of equal quality if in the same bit range and sample rate

  • Is there a way to connect my MacPro (with DVI and Display ports) to the new Thunderbolt display?

I'd like to connect these devices together.

As Kevin J. Doyle points out, the displays from NEC are better than what Apple has to offer for graphics. For video, you'll need a broadcast capable monitor for accurate color correction. Not a computer monitor.
The 24" model is under $1,000 and it include color calibration items. It has both DVI and Display Port connections. The base can be raised/lowered as well as tilted. (the Apple display does not)

They have other sizes and resoltuions as well.

  • Audio mini display port - hdmi

Hi, I have a Macbook6,1 (2010) and I would to know if I there is a mini display-port to hdmi cable with audio support.
    Thank you.

It wasn't a glitch. It wasn't until 1 1/2 years after they developed the Mini DisplayPort that they figured out how to route audio through it. From Wikipedia: "On 13 April 2010, Apple added support for audio out using Mini DisplayPort in their MacBook Pro product line."  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini_DisplayPort
There is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

  • HP Elite 8300 Ultra Slim No Audio via Display Ports -Solution-

This is a solution or a work around to getting audio functionality via the Display Ports on the HP Elite 8300 Ultra Slim and I suspect but cannot confirm as I do not have "other 8xxx models". Normally in the windows sound settings it will offer no options for audio via HDMI, etc with whatever drivers you so happened to install from HP or Intel when using the Display Ports on the machine.
So this is what I did and I replicated it again to be sure.
1.Install the Latest Intel HD 2500 Drivers first from the Intel Website first of course
2.Download the HP Power Assistant Software v2.0.5.1
     http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_102595_1
and install it and suddenly in the Sound settings in the Windows Control Panel you will find it now shows audio devices that are connected via the Display Ports via HDMI , weird I know but it works for any audio device connected to the DP pots via HDMI, etc.
HP Customer Services told me categorically that it was not a function of the 8300 Ultra Slim supports due to the revision of display port it has so I am a bit annoyed that I had to search and search and actually fix it myself.

    Great discovery.
I may experiment on my 8000 and 8200 Elite CMT's.
I would have to remove the video cards I added though.
FYI, so you don't have to go to third party websites, HP does have a direct link to the Power Assistant software you used.

  • Can I connect hdmi and display port at the same time?

The toslink on my 2010 mini is glitchy. So I want to run the audio through the hdmi to my recevier. And the video through the minidisplay port to hdmi to a monitor. Will this work? Can I use the hdmi for audio only and the display port for video only? Thanks

Yes, that is exactly how to use dual monitors.
    Optionally:
if the second monitor has DVI input, use the MiniDisplay Port to DVI adapter.
or if it has Display Port input, then all you need is a straight MiniDisplay Port to Display Port cable.
In Quick Links try Account if Sign In does not work.

  • LA2206XC - audio via Display Port input

Anyone know if the la2206xc is capble of auido in via the display port interface?
I have just hooked one up to my new Intel NUC Kit DC53427HYE but I cannot get audio to come through the speakers on the la2206xc.  All three Digital Audio devices show as "not plugged in".

Hello sideshowtob. Before I can thoroughly assist you, I need to ask a few questions.
What OS are you trying to use?
What computer is the monitor connected to?
I'm also going to provide you a link which contains drivers for the monitor, which may need to be installed or updated. Please answer these questions and try the below link as soon as possible. I'm here to help!

  • Optical audio and surround sound speakers for my Mac Pro

In the back of my Mac Pro there's an in and out for Optical Audio. What is this and are there any surround sound speaker systems out there that will plug into it? Most surround sound speakers seem to require a PC-style triple-input, with three jacks (Green to front, Orange to centre and Black to rear channels). Very few surround sound systems have the additional option for a single headphone socket-style jack, and I'm not sure if they will work terribly well with this single connection.
Can anyone recommend some speaker choices, particularly in the UK, that will give me good surround sound from the optical audio or single headphone jacks? Many thanks.

You might want to look at a device called the Griffin FireWave: [http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/firewave]
It connects to your MacPro via firewire, and has the green/orange/black jacks out to a standard 5.1 speaker system.
It comes with a software application that lets you customize the sound, and also synthesize surround from mono, stereo, etc., sources.
It would definitely open up your choices for speaker systems. I'm using one with a Klipsch 5.1 Promedia set of speakers. Works and sounds great.

  • Optical audio and the iPad headphone jack

I have an optical audio cable going into my tv sound system - will an the iPad sound connect to this thru the headphone jack? I can not play sound thru my iPhone, but can thru my iMac.

It is the only one that I have seen. The only other way would be to get a converter to from analog to SPDIF optical and use either the headphone jack or another interface. Like this one:

  • T520 and Display Port

    Hi All,
I have a Lenovo T520, Windows 8, 64 bit, fully patched and up to date bios etc. I just bought a Dell U2413 external monitor which has a display port cable and connection. When I connect this to my T520 the screen says no display port connection and the laptop does not see the external screen. What can I do to resolve this?
    Thank you.

Hi Jos, welcome to the forum!
There are a number of reasons why there is no communication between the monitor and the T520. First of all, you should check and see in Device Manager if you have the correct driver installed for your VGA, either the Intel or Nvidia, depending on your model. You should check if the cable works with another laptop if possible, or check with another cable to see if it solves the problem.
I suppose you have already tried to use the combination Fn+F7 in order to select the behavior of the display (i.e. Laptop screen only, Laptop + external screen etc)?
Please provide us with the exact machine type, you can find this information at the bottom of the laptop. It should be 4 numbers followed by a dash and another 3 letters/numbers.
There are other possibilities also, but let's see if it works with the basics.

  • Final Cut and Display Port

I see the new mac pro comes with a display port. Will Final Cut Pro use an output connected to a display port as a Digital Cinema Desktop Fullscreen Preview?
If it will this saves me from buying two video cards in order to send a live feed to a video mixing board.

If it's MPEG-2, chances are its a muxed file. You should be able to use MPEG Streamclip to demux and convert the file into whatever format matches your FCP Sequence specs.
But 1440 x 81? That doesn't sound right at all.

  • HP Docking (VB041AA) - Using DVI and Display Port at the same time

    Hello,
is it supported to use the DV and the Display Port of a HP 90W Docking (VB041AA) at the same time? I use this setup with two LA2405wg and a 6450b for a couple of weeks and I encounter a couple of problems:
    - flickering and switching during bootup, same output on both displays, no output
    - hibernation resume fails, if notebook was hibernated undocked (hiberfil.sys corrupt)
    - sometimes Win7 crashs during startup with corrupt drivers
    - spooky display lockups were a display goes into standby and can't be switchec on or off. I have to pull the power cord
Some of them are really strange (corrupt drivers, but after a restart the notebooks starts without problems). During operation I don't have any problems, no BSoDs etc.
    Thanks for advice.

Your notebook is an Enterprise/Business model. I would recommend posting this in the HP Enterprise Support Forums for better coverage, as this is the consumer support forums.

  • EliteBook 8460p AC3/DTS audio via display port

I have 8460p and i am trying to get multichannel audio out of the displayport. I have DP to HDMI cable which works fine for getting picture. Also i get audio but its only 2 channels. Also in the playback devices section when i check the supported formats it only shows 2 channel stereo.
Would like to connect laptop to tv and tv via optical to receiver and get AC3 or DTS when watching movies.
I have 64bit Win7 and latest drivers from hp site.
As a temporary solution i am currently using Lindy usb audio adapter with optical out which is working for AC3/DTS.
    Thanks

The bug is known, and a patch has been submitted: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80151. There's been no update since friday, so I wonder what the current status is, or if it's up for review at all.
Does anyone know how we can be notified when this patch hits the kernel?

  • W540 and Ultradock Display Port Issue with Monoprice 27" Monitor

    Hi,
I have been troubleshooting an issue with my W540 and Ultradock for over a month now.
The issue is that the display port will not recognize my Monoprice 27" monitor.  This same monitor was working previously with my W520 and a different dock (ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3) through the same display adapter.  The current monitor will work on the DVI port, but I obviously can't get the full resolution of the monitor without the display port adapter.
    So far I have tried:
    1) Updating the drivers of the laptop
    2) Updating the drivers of the dock itself to 2.22
    3) Power cycling the monitor with the PC connected, not connected, etc.
    4) Switching between Standard/Advanced mode in the BIOS
    5) Nearly every iteration of monitor detection in the screen resolution settings
    6) Changing cables, adapters, and display ports
What is different in my scenario (based off of the other issues I've seen with the Ultradock and W540) is that the monitor is never even detected under any circumstance through the display port.  Device manager never sees it, nor does the normal monitor detection procedure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Best,
    Austin

    Any ideas?
I am about to throw this in the trash...  It's now defaulting my DVI port monitor to 640x480 without the option to change it.

  • New airplay feature and optical audio on Apple TV

I have a 3rd gen Apple tv and just updated to the software to the latest 5.1 version. Does anyone know if I can now stream to my airport express and send audio down an optical audio cable to my stereo simultaneously?

Many thanks for your test on this. Do you know if the aTV will then play down the optical audio and HDMI simultaneously. I pressume it will so you can attach surround sound systems?
