Optical Audio Through X-Fi to WoW Headset

I have my consoles hooked up to my PC through the optical jack in the front panel of an SB-X-Fi Platinum Fatality Champion Series and the line-in jack in the rear. This audio works fine when outputting to speakers. However, I just got the WoW Wireless Headset, and it is not transmitting that signal. The headset works perfectly for PC-based games and music, but for some reason it will not take the audio input signals and transmit them to the headset. I've set the headset as the default audio device in the control panel (Win 7 64-bit), and have checked every setting I can find in the Creative Audio Console both for the sound card and the headset, but with no luck. No matter what, the console audio always outputs to the speakers rather than the headphones.
Anybody have any ideas for how to make this work?
Thanks.

Boojum,
The WoW headset functions as a separate audio device on it's own, you cannot have both the sound card and headset working at the same time.

  • Having issues with ATV optical audio through receiver..

    Please help?!?!?
Have ATV 2 & receiver does not have HDMI... have connected HDMI to the TV & would like sound to go through the receiver using the optical audio & won't work with both connections in... does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix???

Both HDMI and optical audio should be active at same time.
Check optical cable and connection is ok.
Sometimes helps to unplug and restart the AppleTV.
On receiver you may need to configure the input.
AppleTV should give dolby digital 5.1 for suitably encoded movies.
For stereo audio it will give linear PCM (16 bit 48kHz apparently not 44.1 kHz you'd expect).

  • Apple TV optical Audio stops working when connected to switch

    Hi everyone,
I'm installing a brand new Apple TV in the following setup:
Apple TV (is up to date)
    - HDMI to HD Beamer
    - Optical Audio to Sonos Playbar (Works instantly)
    - Optical audio through switch to Sonos Playbar which doesn't work
    UPC Box
    - HDMI to HD Beamer
    - Optical audio to switch to Sonos Playbar (Works instantly)
I've tested all the ports on the switch and cables already and they all work. So the weird thing is when I connect the optical from Sonos directly to the Apple TV it works perfect. But when I use the switch it doesn't work. I see a light in the switch so there should be signal...
    The switch I'm using is:

so i solved my own problem haha here's what i did incase anyone has the same issue
go to system preferences > sound > output > click on headphones then turn the volume up from mute
for some reason every time i reconnect to the uni wifi it goes back to mute. not the regular volume only the one through that pathway.

  • How to make my computer send all the audio through optical audio cable instead of headphone jack?

    Howdy,
To listen to online radios or CD's played from my computer, I used to connect the computer to my home entertainment system from the computer's headphone jack to the AUX port on my home entertainment system.
I now wanted to get better sound and purchased the optical audio cable. However, I don't know how to tell my computer to send the audio signal to the home entertainmeny system through the optical digital cable rather than through the headphone jack. If I just unplug the cable connecting the headphone jack and the AUX port and only have the PC and the system connected with the optical audio cable, I don't hear any sounds. I suspect the computer isn't sending any data through the optical audio port. I'm not able to find how I can adjust the settings on my computer so that from now all sounds are output through the optical audio.
    1) I'd like to do that mainly for my HP desktop (configuration below) and any advice on how to do that would be appreciated.
    2) I also have a HP laptop (configuration below) and was wondering if that would be doable too (even though it doesn't appear to have a audio out, but it has HDMI out - can one convert it to optical audio?

    Hello @_goma,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I have read your post on how you are looking to make your computer send all the audio through an optical audio cable instead of the headphone jack, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To configure your desktop to enable the optical audio cable, I recommend following the steps below:
Step 1. Click the Windows Key Button on your desktop
    Step 2. Type "Control Panel"
Step 3. Select "Control Panel" in the top right-hand corner
    Step 4. Select Sound
Step 5. Under the Playback tab, right-click the white area below the devices available
Step 6. Select "Show Disabled" and "Show Disconnected Devices"
Step 7. Connect your Optical Audio Cable
Step 8. Select your Optical Audio Cable as the default device and click "Enable"
Since it is not possible to convert the HDMI out to audio out on your notebook computer, it is unfortunate that the notebook is not able to connect with an optical audio cord.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

Any ideas please as this is quite frustrating?

it does not work with usb mass stroage driver which devices such as stereos which have usb conenctors rely on

The headset works for me... but the control panel does not.
    I get this error:
None of the features work. Not EQ, not voice FX, not THX - NOTHING.
And there is no way to clean uninstall to reinstall the drivers - I am having to manually sniff around the system folder... Try and resintstall - same issue.
Is there not a Beta Driver we can try and help with?
Cause this is an expensive failure right now.

i have a hp pavilion entertainment pc

    Hey Smophiez,
Sometimes Windows sets one device as the communications device (ex. for Skype), and another to the normal audio device.
To change this, right click on the volume control icon right beside the clock, and click Playback Devices. You should see a list of different audio devices, for example "Headphones" and "Speakers" or something like that. Anyways, pick the device you want, for example your headset/headphones, right click on it, and click "Set as Default Device". Right click on it again, and click "Set as Default Communications Device". This way, all audio will be routed only through that device that you've picked.

  • How to run audio through Optical in and out through PC speaker jacks

Hi everyone, I recently purchased a SoundBlaster Z because of the optical audio ports, and I am trying to run Optical audio from my Playstation 3 through the Optical In port and out to my 5.1 Surround PC speakers. I can't find any settings in the control panel (literally there is only one setting, to change the encoder, no other options and profile button doesn't work). I tried running the speaker configuration application but nothing happens when executed. Can anyone provide assistance with this?
I tried using the Auto update application, and go figure, it stops working every time I run it as well. Does any of their software work?

Tried using Creative Diagnostics, and that too does not run at all.Creative Utility.jpgCreative Auto Update.jpg
Is this what the Contol Panel is supposed to look like? It doesn't seem like there is anything to control, besides the volume and encoder.

  • Can I use Optical Audio alongside a speakerless monitor to play audio through speakers?

I have an Apple TV 3 and so far I am relatively pleased. However.. I have no sound, this just about renders my Apple TV useless. Is it possible to use the Optical Audio cable to play sound from films, music etc. while still having the Apple TV connected to the Monitor via HDMI? Do you have any suggestions as to what speakers would be good? (looking at around £50 - £100) I was thinking of getting some of the Bose Companion 2 monitor speakers and then using a DAC to play audio from the Apple TV to the speakers. Would this work? If not, does anybody have any other suggestions?
P.S. I can't plug speakers into my monitor for some absurd, annoying reason unbeknown to society

  • Optical audio in passing through to optical audio out... Is it possible?

    Hello,
Is there anyway to have the optical audio in passthrough to optical audio out? I use my iMac as a home-entertainment box with a Elgato Hybrid getting video-signals from a cable-box. My iMac is connnected via fibre-cable to a surround-reciever.
The reciever has only one optical input, and the cable-box also has digital audio via optical fibre. So in order for me to not have to switch cables when watching tv on the iMac, I would like to send the optical audio from the cable-box to the reciever, via the iMac.
What really bothers me is the fact that the audio-drivers supplied with bootcamp let you do exactly what I want in windows!
So I know for a fact that the hardware is up for it. I've tried lineIn, (an audio app) but that app doesn't play nicely with EyeTV2.
    Can anyone help me?
    /Fredrik

I found the answer to my problems. The answer was another app from http://www.rogueamoeba.com called "Audio HiJack Pro". It allows me to select "Digital Audio In" and route it to "Digital Audio Out" "bypassing" the system all togheter. So now I get 5.1 Dolby Digital from my set-top cablebox to my reciever without having to switch cables. Yay!

  • How to connect Digital Optical Audio output iMac with Receiver Input

I have connected iMac with onkyo hts-3300 home theater system receiver through optical audio TosLink Cable.( http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Audio-TosLink-Cable/dp/B001ZU3G2I/ref=sr12?ie=UTF8&qid=1292865309&sr=8-2 ). Unfortunately there is no sound coming out from the Home theater system. I have verified the Receiver optical input is working fine by connecting with my TV optical audio digital out put and the it's working great. The only difference between TV and iMac is, on my TV, it has optical audio digital output and I can use this cable (http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-A102-02M-Digital-connectors/dp/B0002WPREU/ref=s r11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1297320792&sr=1-1) to make it work. I can also verified my optical audio TosLink Cable working because I can see the red light coming out from the cable. So the only problem could be from iMac. I doubt I need to change the additional setting to configure iMac to use external optical audio setting instead of the buit in audio setting. Hoe can I able to do it? or my iMac(IMAC 21.5"/3.06/2X2GB/500GB/9400M-ITP
MB950ZP/A) doesn't support optical digital audio out put? I have follow this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12769423&#12769423 and to my surprise which doesn't work out for me. I doubt that i need to change some setting, but when I got to setting>> sound I cannot change any setting. I was quite depressed aldy. Can someone answer my question as i m a newbie here. Thanks a lot

@rkaufmann87 : Thank you very much for your sharing about this http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/ connection. for me what i understand is the digital audio output in airportexpress is the same as the audio out put in iMac in terms of details sepcs. So this airportexpress will only help you connect wirelessly to home theatre system, rather than waired connection. Other than that nothig much difference. So there is no point for me to spend extra bucks to attain the wireless connection. Unless the airportexpress have optical digital input, which i believe not. Correct me if I m worng, thanks

  • How do I connect the Apple TV to the home theater if the optical audio port is in use

I had an airport express connected from the home theater system to the speaker out port on the express through which air play worked just fine. Then the express wouldn't work with my new router so I looked for something to replace it. The new Airport Express was the same price as the Apple TV and so I went with it for the added HDMI from NetFlix benefits. Now I find that the cables I used on the express won't work on the Apple TV. It wants an optical cable but there is only one port on the speakers and it is needed to get the sound from the TV to the speakers. So, is here a work around? An adapter or something? What I really wanted it for more than anything else was to use air play to get my music from the computer to the theater speakers.

I have a further question about this. It turns out I do have 2 optical audio ports but I was told I wouldn't need it if it was connected via hdmi. I have 4 ports and they are all in use so the question is whether the best solution is to just get an optical audio cable and connect it directly or get an hdmi splitter so I can add in the Apple TV?

  • Optical Audio Problems

    Hi guys,
I'm having a little trouble getting my Mac mini to play audio via optical out through my Sony HT-IS100 home theatre system.
Below is my correspondence with Sony UK so far listing the problem and current connections. Their reply indicates that the problem is the way the sound is output from the mini. Does anybody know what the default output audio type is via optical?
It is worth noting the problem occurs through iTunes, front row, safari, quick time etc.
I also tried using my MacBook Pro and the same problem occurred. Does anyone have any ideas, or are Macs just not compatible with my setup via optical audio?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jib
Here is the link to the manual referenced by Sony http://www.superfi.co.uk/extras/Sony/sonyhtis100manual.pdf
    =================================================
    Hi there,
I'm having trouble getting the sound from my MacMini to output through my recently purchased HT-IS100 system.
The MacMini is being connected via a TOS optical cable for the sound and a HDMI cable for the picture to the SAT inputs on the HT-IS100.
The picture is working fine, as mentioned the audio is not. The HT-IS100 is working fine for all other inputs.
The optical cable has been checked and is working when used for other components, as has the optical out port on the MacMini.
When the HT-IS100 is turned on from standby, the OPT and PCM light are on and I get audio for about a second before '2.0 channel' is displayed and the audio disappears.
Have looked through all trouble shooting and online guides and nothing to help me with it. I also tried calling my local sony centre with no luck there either. All components are working so am assuming it is just a setting that needs to be changed.
Can you please advise on how to fix the problem.
    Many thanks.
    Dear Mr ------
Thank you for your recent e-mail received on 11/03/2010 03.20 PM.
I am pleased to read that you are the owner of a HT-IS100, but sorry to learn of the issue you are experiencing.
Having investigated your enquiry, it appears that your MacMini is outputting a sound signal that is not supported by the HT-IS100. For example, the maximum PCM input for the Home Theatre System is 96khz. The Home Theatre System will automatically select the best decoding mode for the sound that is being received, so it would not be a setting on the Theatre System that needs to be changed. As this is the case, I would suggest that you view the supported sound specifications in the instruction manual and ensure that your MacMini is outputting a supported signal. Please refer to page 76 of the manual for the specifications.
I hope this information is of some assistance. Thank you for your enquiry.
    Yours sincerely

    Dear Mr.....
    Thank you for your reply.
If the SAT optical port works when connected to another product, this still indicates that it is an issue somewhere in the Mac settings causing the problem. It is possible that interference in the HDMI cable is causing the Home Theatre System to listen to sound coming from the HDMI port rather than the optical port. I would suggest that you try connecting the Mac just with optical and no HDMI, to see if the issue still occurs. If the problem is resolved, I would recommend that you use another HDMI cable.
If the same issue occurs, this indicates that is a Mac setting somewhere causing the sound output to be incompatible. In this case, I would recommend that you contact Mac for assistance.
I hope this information is of some assistance. Thank you for your enquiry.

So, with HDMI unplugged the audio works through the optical input to the HT-IS100 amp. With a HDMI (all cables working that I tried) plugged in, the picture comes through but no audio for that channel.
So there must be something outputting through the HDMI from the mac mini to make the amp try to take the audio from there instead of the optical. Tried all TV output settings on the mac and same problem across the board. Does anyone know if there is anything else I can try, or is it time to just accept this combo does not work as it should?
Since the last post, I discovered that the sliders in the midi setup should be grey due to control being shifted to the amp, so all OK there.
Thanks in advance if anyone has any help.

  • Can't get optical audio to work

I know this might be an issue with my A/V receiver, but I'm really stuck and frustrated and hoping someone can help. I've got the Apple TV connected direct to the TV since the receiver (A Denon AVR-688) doesn't support audio playback through to the speakers (or does it? can't get it to anyway). The optical audio I have connected to the optical port on the receiver so I can hear sound through the stereo. The port is labelled "CD" but my audio input source to CD, I get no sound through the stereo (just what's coming through to the TV via the direct HDMI connection). I must be setting something wrong. Can anyone help me?

I only see an option to set the "input" source (not output), which I have selected as CD as I have no CD player, and it's the default setting anyway. Regardless, I'm sure I've got something set up wrong just can't figure out what it is. Ugh!

  • What optical audio cable to use with Mac Mini (late 2009) to receiver?

I want to do the following (removing TiVo for something else is NOT an option, EVER):
    1) I want to watch TV through my HD TiVo (better than sex, better than chocolate, better than sex, chocolate, and anything else you can combine together).
    2) I want to watch DVDs plus iTunes videos plus listen to iTunes audio through my Mac Mini.
    3) I want to have digital optical audio (TOS?) 5.1 dolby for both
On the Mac Mini it says it has digital audio out. Isn't that the same thing as digital Optical audio out?

You need a regular optical digital cable, often called a Toslink, with a 3.5 mm miniplug adapter on the Mac mini end. The port is a combo port. When you insert the optical cable's miniplug into the port, because it is a tiny bit longer than a regular 3.5 mm miniplug, it activates the digital audio. Usually the port's output is analog by default.
