  • Optical audio cable for iMac?

I need to find an optical audio cable for my 20" intel iMac.
I have not been able to determine what kind of cable that it is that I need to be able to hook up my iMac to my logitech z-5500's. I know that the z-5500's have an optical input on them, but it is a standard size optical input.
Does anyone know what exactly it is that I am looking for?
    Any help is appreciated.

I wish Apple would sell a nice white Toslink ->Mini-tos adapter, as all of their products seem to be using the connector. (Or better yet, include it with the computers.)
The cable mentioned above will work fine and is not viciously overpriced like the Monster stuff. Another good quality solution, especially if you already have a regular optical cable, is this adaptor: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=180-968
I use two of those (both with Dayton Audio optical cables from the same seller, though any optical cable will do as there's no real difference between any of them) with my iMac and AirPort Express, and have not had any problems.

  • TOSlink optical cable for a Ma Pro? How does it work?

Not sure if this is the place for this question or not, but I am trying to find out more information about the optical audio in/out section of the Mac Pro. On Apple's description page it claims that a regular TOSlink optical cable will work in those slots, but by looking at them, it doesn't seem like it would fit at all. Does a piece in the middle of the optical audio port go inwards? How would you ever be able to get a TOSlink cable to fit it? Anyone have any pictures of an optical cable inserted into a Mac Pro so I can see how it all works?
I know this might seem like a rather absurd question, but I am trying to figure out if I can plug my old stereo surround sound amp into my Mac Pro to use it for audio. Thanks for the help!

There are covers that will swing in out of the way as you press a connector against them. At least this is the case on my Mac Pro..

  • Correct optical cable for Apple TV  3rd gen

I have now purchased two optical cables that were supposed to work with Apple TV. Neither had the correct end that would fit into the Apple TV. This shouldn't be that hard!! Can someone please point me to a link to the correct cable? Google searches bring up info about connecting, but do not say what cable to get.
    thanks!
    Joe

Thank you for this. I even described and gave the details of the last cable I bought when I called apple a few moments ago, and he said it was the correct one, and it wasn't. I see on the link you provided that there is an adaptor. It looks like the one I have has one long end (no adaptor) and one small square end. My sound system needs the same square end as the Apple TV takes. So, I just ordered what I think is the correct one.
    thanks so much,
    Joe

  • Multi-wire optical cable for 150...200 meter connection

Please suggest multi-wire cable to connect switches located ~150...200 meters away from each other.
It is needed to have at least 8...10 wires inside such type of optical cable.

Cisco doesn't sell optical cabling. Typically people have optical cable installed by a cabling vendor from rack to rack and terminated in patch panels.
The recommended specification these days for most intra-building applications is OM 3 or ideally OM4 50 micron multimode cable. You tell the vendor how many pairs you require and they take care of it for you.
You only then need to procure the 1-2m fiber optic jumpers between the patch panel and the SFPs in your equipment. Again these would be OM3 or 4 50 micron multimode and generally you need LC terminations on both ends. They are commodity items and available from any number of online retailers.

  • Optical cable for early 08 MacPro

Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement optical drive cable for my early 2008 Mac Pro? My broken cable indicates it's a "593-0377 A". I recently bought a cable that was suppose to be for a Mac Pro but it was too short.

A small clarification if I may:
An 80-wire cable with 40-pin headers. Special wiring in the headers intersperses the (about five) grounds available in the interface so that a ground appears between every active signal on the cable. This keeps it quiet enough to run at the higher speeds required.

  • Please recommend external Optical/Superdrive for iMac G4?

Greetings. I am trying to get my iMac G4 in working condition for my kids. We replaced it with a 24" G5 as the optical drive no longer works in the G4. I've tried everything - it is dead. I don't want to put the money into having someone install a replacement. Where would I get an external drive, what "features" would I look for, what brand is reliable and is this a logical solution? Thanks in advance....Karen

I would check with Lacie before purchase. They may well change chipsets from time to time which is why I was deliberately vague.
You certainly can use Firewire Target Disk Mode with the +Intel iMac+
Conduct full backup of the iMac G4
    Shut down both Macs
Connect the two Macs using a 6pin-to-6pin Firewire cable.
Boot the +Intel iMac+ and hold down the T key.
Insert the Leopard install disc - this must be a retail disk, not the one that came with the +Intel iMac+
Boot the iMac G4 and hold down the Option (alt) key.
    Select the Leopard install disc.
    Continue as normal.
When you are finished shutdown the iMac G4 and then use the power button to switch off the +Intel iMac+ then disconnect the cable.

  • Long cable for iMac TV connection?

I see there are cables that will connect an iMac and an external monitor or a TV. My iMac and TV are in different rooms. The cable would have to be 30' to 50', depending on how I route it.
Do they make one that big? Do they make extenders? Can the cable be that long or will the signal fail to get through reliably?

Depends what kind of cable we're talking about, iirc HDMI is worst for length of run, DVI next poor, and VGA best.
Look here for your cable, I'm sure they have it, and likely extensions too...

  • Optical cable for storage 3510

What kind of cable is used to connect to optical storage 3510.
I know it must be LC/LC. Is it multimodal or singl?
    Is there anything else important?
    Thanks
    Mario

Use multimode fibre for connecting to a 3510. Also depending on the device connecting to the array, you may need to use an SC/LC cable to get the proper connectors.
While the array will "auto negotiate" the connection topology "FC_AL" or "FC_SW", I am a big fan of hard setting the topology on each end of the FC link. This will result in quicker "Link Up" times and fewer device timeouts during link events.

  • Samsung LN52A650 Audio - HDMI or Optical Cable

    Hello,
I purchased the Samsung LN52A650 in December and just had it mounted. I keep hearing conflicting opinions in regards to whether or not I need a digital optical cable for the audio or will an hdmi cable suffice? I have a Denon AVR1909 receiver and will be hooking a PS3 to it as well as a 7.2 speaker system. Will my hdmi cable carry the audio that i need? Thanks very much.
    Sincerely,
    VM The Prince
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Actually, if you are wanting to use your PS3 as a BD player, and want to hear the HD audio codecs contained on BD movies, you have to use HDMI. Toslink won't carry the new codecs.

  • Maximum length of digital optical cable

    Hi.
I want to connect via Toslink optical cable my imac 2013 at a external DAC. As being the maximum length of cable that I can use? 10 meters (33 ft) is ok? thanks

    Hi Schizoid75-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards
I graduated from Worthington High School way back in the day, but I do digress.
    This may help: Toslink.
It looks like the maximum run will be a little better than 30 feet.
    Luck-

  • Optical cable does not work in Apple TV Software v4.2

    Hi,
Before I upgraded 4.2, I could hear audio from optical cable and could see video from HDMI.
In my case, my display can play audio with HDMI, but I prefer to using optical cable for home theater system. Therefore I usually set the volume 0 on the display.
However, after the upgrade, the audio did not come from optical cable but only from HDMI as ususal.
I tried the following things but I could not get it better.
    - Reboot AppleTV
    - Reset AppleTV
    - Restore AppleTV
    - Reconnect optical cable and HDMI cable
    - Restart my audio system.
    - Restart my display
Does anyone have similar situation after upgrading 4.2?

I KNOW! haha, I hate how simplified the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi service is.. I hope that Cisco would enable advanced settings in their next firmware upgrade for advanced users..
You are pretty lucky to have the EA2700 model. Cisco provides official support for people who do not like the Smart Wi-Fi service to revert back to the classic Web based setup but ends classic web for EA6500. If you feel like trying it out then give it a go! You can make a back up of all your router settings to your computer so if the classic web setup doesn't work for you then you can always upgrade back to the current "Smart" version and restore all your settings.
Here are the links to that:
This one talks about the benefits of having "Smart" Wi-Fi and tells you that you can downgrade if you don't like it:

This link pretty much tells you how to do it:
    http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=25856
UPDATE: I forgot to mention, to back up your current configuration; When you log in to Smart Wi-Fi just click "Troubleshooting", and click the "Diagnostics" Tab and you should see your Backup and Restore settings.

  • Optical Output for iTouch 4?

Does anyone know if acompany makes an iTouch4 cradle or cable that would accept a digital optical cable for audio? MP3's are digital, doesn't make much sense to use Analog cables from the iTouch to a digital sound system. [email protected]

    Just saw this post.
I have the same complaint with iPad output. It's tough to get a straight answer from Apple about the quality of the output from the dock connector.
    1. From what I can find, the headphone jack does not give real Line Out quality. It sounds pretty good through good headphones but not to run a good stereo set.
    2. I have had difficulty finding out what quiality the "Line Out" signal is from the Apple dock for iPad/iPhone.
    3. The HDMI connector from the iPad will support digital audio and should work well according Bang and Olafsen.
    4. You can get OPTICAL output from the Airport Express but I'm not sure how to set it up as a hub WITHOUT needing a connection to the full internet. Anyway you can connect an iPad to a correctly set up Airport Express and play iTunes to it and then it feeds your stereo. This is about $100  but a cable connector (if it existed) would be on the order of $50 so this isn't too bad. I don't have the link on how to do it but I did see it. I'll try to post it.
    Cheers!
