Optical connection without Digital I/O module

I have a PS3 and Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme music...
I want to connect the optical out of PS3 to my sound card's flexi jack(Mic/Linein/Digital I/O socket). I want to do this because I have Creative analog 7. speakers Inspire 7900.
I understand i can do this by buying the Creative Digital I/O module
http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=3&subcategory=55&product=780
I guess there is no conversion happening inside that.
So is there a cable that I can directly connect from PS3 Optical out ---> Flexi jack on the extreme music sound card?
Please help me out guys. I am from India and buying that digtial I/O module is nearly impossible here as its not available Message Edited by Oblivioner on 07-2-20070:44 AM

rry Oblivioner but this cable only is spdif OUT (my english is very bad and don?t see you want SPdif IN).
You can change the pinout of the conector and test with spdif IN but in think dont work

This pinout is originally founded by Samir. In Audigy 2 ZS, connecting pins 25 and 35 together will fake Audigy dri've. In X-Fi, that trick doesn't work. No work around has been found yet. Cannot get SPDIF IN, I2S Input and MIDI I/O to work without it. SPDIF outs work fine without trick.

  • X-Fi Xtreme Music + Digital I/O + Optical Connection for z-5

Hi there, im new and very raw so i was wondering if anyone can clear some things up.
Ive had my X-Fi Xtreme Music card for about 3 months and in that time i've been using the 3 analogue 3.5mm connections to my z-5500 controller, and i've had no problem in terms of getting full 5. sound for music and in games. Ive recently bought a digital I/O from creative to have an optical connection to the z-5500 controller.
    My questions are:
    1) Can i get 5. sound using the optical connection When i had the analogue connection, my z-5500 controller said it was 6. surround, but when i changed the input to optical, the controller said it was stero and not 6. surround. Ive testing the speakers in the creative console, but my rear right and rear left is mostly comming from my front right and front left speakers (something is comming out of the rear speakers but its very low)
    2) Ive downloaded the dell drivers and went through the process as noted on another thread and i've successfully got the dts and dolby digital working, but how do i know it works Is there some way i can test and see if it works I mean isnt my z-5500 controller supposed to say dts or dolby digital because at the moment it isnt.
    3) Is there any sound difference between an optical connection and the annalogue connection in terms of playing mp3's and games. Im aware that dts and dolby digital isnt available on the analogue connection, but i dont watch many dvd's on my comp so is there an point to have the optical connection
Thanks very much for anyone that helps.

To get a 5. spread on the 5500 with an optical or coaxial connection, you need to use the Effect button on the controller and switch to PL II Music. You can then spread the sound to the back using the Levels button and turning Surround up to your desired level. There are also some changes you can make using the Settings button.
As for the Dolby Digital and DTS, that will only show up on the controller when you are watching a DVD which supports either/or.
    Hope this helps

  • Unable to enable SPDIF??? X-Fi XtremeGamer (non-PRO) w/ Digital I/O Module

JUnable to enable SPDIF? X-Fi XtremeGamer (non-PRO) w/ Digital I/O Module? I recently purchased the Digital I/O module in order to use SPDIF Out on my X-Fi XtremeGamer in order to send audio to my 5. receiver via digital coax.
However after hooking up my Digital I/O module to the flexijack (the one with the red light) I am unable to enable SPDIF.
I read and followed the directions listed here:
    <a rel="nofollow" href="http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=64440"]http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=64440[/url]
The options that they tell you to set are simply are not there on my system.
I am running the most current drivers and console launcher that Creative has on their website.
I have been trying to get it to work both under Windows XP and Windows 7.
I have spent the last 3 hours beating my head on a wall, I hope someone can help me with this...
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Ah that's what I am afraid of.
Quoted from the article in your message: "For SB073X series : Supports Microphone-in, Line-in and Optical out connections. On a SB073X series card, this jack does not have the Digital-in function to support the Digital I/O Module. It does however connects to external digital audio devices that accept stereo PCM or compressed Dolby Digital/DTS Bitstream from the Optical output. This will require using a "Toslink to Mini Toslink" cable for connection only."

  • Will the Sound Blaster Digital I/O Module enable me to use my DTT3500's with my audigy

I have a vanilla audigy 4. Just found out that it only supports 2. digital speakers. My DTT3500's are 5. and in the spaeker test only the front left and right make a sound, as digital 2.. will the Sound Blaster Digital I/O Module enable me to get digital 5. as my old soundblaster li've platinum 5. let me do? ie. all speakers show up in the speaker test?
    yours sincerely,
    john kelly

No. The digital output module is simply an adaptor to standard 2-channel connections such as optical, coaxial etc. Even if it includes the bigger 9-pin DIN connector which was the first generation of the DIN connectors, the Digital Output on the Audigy 4 is still only giving it 2 channels of sound, so all rest speakers will be silent.
If you are interested and have the skills you may modify the DTT3500 to support an extra analog connection for the center channel, the instructions were posted on this forum somewhere. Do a search...
There is really no other way to have the center channel receiving the signal from the card. (Theoretically you could modify the card to get the signals from there, but the chances are you will most propably destroy it in the process).

  • Digital I/O Module and 5.1 digital speak

    Hello all,
First of all, excuse me for my English. I will try to explain my problem the best I can.
I have a Sound Blaster Audigy installed on my PC. I wanted to use it with a 5. digital speakers system (with digital optical input). On the soundcard instructions I read about the "Digital I/O Module", that allows you to connect 5. digital speakers. Then, I bought it (on creative online shop), and I have received it today. But, when I have connected it to the speaker system, the output sound is only 2.0. I have selected 5. on speaker configuration, but in the test, it only sounds the front left and right speakers. I have tried with a DVD movie, and the sound is only 2.0, also. Is there any way to play 5. sound on DVD movies (and AC3 sound system, if possible) with my configuration?
In other forum posts, I have read something about this problem, but I can not find any solution for it, or if it is possible to solve it.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Creative Digital I/O Module with Audigy 2 ZS Problems

5Creative Digital I/O Module with Audigy 2 ZS Problems? Hello - new to the forums, but a long time Soundblaster user.
I have read pkc's Digital Connections FAQ, but i am still struggling with my digital setup:
I have had an Audigy 2 ZS for some time. I have recently bought a surround sound amp and want to connect my PC to the amp digitally using the Audigy 2 ZS. So i have bought the Creative Digital I/O Module which understand is perfect for connecting the two, but i cannot get any output from it.
Firstly, the Creative Digital I/O Module is part no. SB0002 and has a 4 pole mini jack. I have connected it to the digital output of the Audigy. I have then connected the i/o module to the amp using digital coax cable. The amp receives no signal from the module and also i cannot see any light from the module's optical output. What do i need to do to get the i.o module working with the Audigy and sound to the amp?
Secondly, i have read in pjc's post that the digital output can act as a digital coax, but how do connect a 4-pole mini jack output to a single phono jack for the digital coax?
Thanks in advance for any advice here.

  • Digital I/o Module not working w/ Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Mu

I purchased a X-Fi Xtreme Music 3 months ago. It was and still is working great. Recently, I purchased the digital i/o module because I wanted to connect a optical cable to my sound card. When I plugged it into the flexi jack and switched it to digital i/o, the light in the optical in appeared. I plugged in my optical cable? (which is connected to my xbox 360) but no sound is coming out of my speakers. I tested my optical cable with another receiver and it works fine, but I can't get it to work with my computer. I have tried everything that I can think of, and have read all the different guides on how to enable your digital i/o from the creative site but nothing seems to be working. I even updated the creative files from the website. Any help would be appreciated.

i have the EXACT same problem, but i have the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatalty Professional Series and i get no red light lol have you tried changing audio settings on your xbox ? change it to something like stero to make sure thats not the problem hope this helps, let me know how you get on

The Signal to my Home Theater System is not Digital, it is Stereo only.
I hate it to have the movie '300' without Digital Effects!
    MY System:
Operating System: WindowsXP ( SP )

If everything else is connecting with no issues, I would go into the wifi setting on the iPad and redo the info there, user, password and anything else related to your wifi at your house.
It is possible whatever he reset may have reset something to default setting which will not allow it to connect. If you need too then verify the wifi setting by comparing it with another device setting that works on your home network.
    Good luck

  • Audigy 4 Pro - can only get 2 channel sound via SPDIF/optical connecti

I have two PC's, one with an Audigy 4 Pro and one with an Audigy 2 Platinum (A2P), I have my 5. speakers hooked up to the A2P and the A4P connected via the SPDIF to the A2P, I would expect to get 5. - both are setup to use 5. speakers, (I know that as a standard Digital coax/optical connections should handle multi speaker configs my entire A/V sound system (7. Dolby) uses optical and coax and it works fine).
If I run the channel test on the Audigy 4 I can get nothing but sound through the left and right speakers, if I run the test on the Audigy 2 (speakers direct connected) the sound is fine, if I reconnect the speakers to my Audigy 4 I get sound on all speakers so it looks like its an issue with the SPDIF and optical inputs (I tried both).
I have emailed tech support, I'm waiting for them to come back and tell me that the Audigy 4 cannot transmit more than two channels down the SPDIF/optical outs, thats my suspicion anyway, if that is the case then I'm not going to be a happy man and the Audigy will be going back to the store. Could be a driver problem of course as I cant believe they would implement Dolby and THX and only transmit two channels on the optical outs, that would be a bit dumb considering the primary use for digital connections is sound system interconnects.
Anyone with any ideas about this let me know, perhaps theres a hidden setting somewhere or a registry setting that switches the digital outs to carry all signals.

Just before everyone kicks off, heres a response I got from a tech guy at Creative themselves.
If you connect speakers to your sound card using a digital cable
(RCA/SPDIF or optical) then the software speaker test will only output
from two speakers. The reason for this is that the speaker test signal is
not in AC3 nor DTS format.
The signal on a digital connection is either
Optical SPDIF - which is either Stereo PCM signal or AC-3/DTS Bitstream
RCA SPDIF - which is either Stereo PCM signal or AC-3/DTS Bitstream
If you play AC3 (Dolby Digital) or DTS encoded signals, the amplifier
decodes this and outputs it to all 6 speakers (5 satellites & subwoofer)
    discretely.
When playing back stereo signals (such as Wav/CD Audio or MP3/WMA files)
the amplifier may generate 5. output based on the incoming stereo PCM
signal, provided Dolby Pro Logic decoding is available and activated.
Therefore the speaker test should not be relied on when using RCA or
    Optical digital connections.
This applies to all speaker systems equipped with RCA or Optical digital
    connections.
This makes sense to me and I'm pretty happy with it, basically as the reply says above the speaker test does not encode to AC3 hence if you hook two Audigys together and run the test you only get 2 channel output, if you play a DVD which is AC3/DTS encoded on one Audigy and listen to speakers hooked up to the other when both Audigys are connected via SPDIF or optical you should in theory get full playback on all speakers. Hopefully
    Cheers

  • How to connect grace digital wifi radio receiver to airport express.

    Hi,
I need to connect grace digital wifi radio receiver to airport express. The receiver works fine with belkin n150, however when connected to express as primary base station ( belkin switch off), it displays
    "Default gateway.......
Port 80 not found. not connected"
The conneted type is dynamic wifi network (POE + ). The express is set in bridge mode and configured through ipad.

    Hi,
Called up the apple support services on Dec 9, 2013 and was on line for almost 1 hour without a solution. However, received a call back from team in Singapore on the same day and commitment to revert on the issue within 24 hrs. Received a call within 24 hrs and the entire discussion came down to the point that I have to manually set the grace digital equipment.
I tried other options and eventually the simplest thing to do was to set the connection option to DHCP only and ignore the error.
    Now its working fine..

  • K7N420 Pro and optical connection to speakers

Can anyone tell me about this setup? I'm looking into getting a 5.1 set with optical connection (which means the digital amplifier is built in the set)
Is there a recommendation for a certain speaker set? preferably in an affordable price and good quality..
    thanks!

    Hi,
Mulderfox: Have you got a SPDIF coaxial connector for your motherboard?
If so, your best bet is to buy a speaker set with the SPDIF coaxial connection. I have mine plugged in to my Hi-Fi amp Sony 5.1 (SPDIF coaxial) and it sounds great (most new Hi-Fi amps have both optical and coax).
AFAIK, there's not that much difference between the optical and coaxial connections (I'm no expert though). But I do know they both do the same thing. If you don't mind me asking, why are you so set on getting the optical version?
Optical is more of a purest's option but I'm a harsh critic as far as bad quality sound goes and I've had no problems with my coax/SPDIF connection!
Here's a link to something that may be of interest - though I'm pretty sure it is NOT what you're after!

    BTW,
    Quote
I'm trying to cut costs but get a good quality of speakers with sound that doesnt break or distort even when they're at top volume.
You usually have to pay a lot of money to to do this. Most PC speakers will distort at least a little when played at full volume.

  • Connecting stepper motor to the module 9512

    Hello,
I must do project in LabVIEW.
I use the compactRIO with module 9512 (Stepper Drive Interface Module with Encoder Feedback). I built a small program of this tutorial http://www.ni.com/white-paper/9666/en#toc10. Now I need connect stepper motor to the module and I would like to run my VI.
I want to connect small stepper motor (which once was in the 3.5-inch floppy drive - this is bipolar motor with four pins) with module 9512. I don't know which pins DSUB or MDR I must link with my inputs stepper motor. "In Getting started with NI 951x.pdf" written: "Connect the Step and Direction outputs to the stepper drive." and "Connect the Drive Enable output to the stepper drive."
Which outputs I should connect with my stepper motor?
    Thank you in advance.

That is correct, these elements or their equivalent.  It is necessary to convert the control signals from the 9512 into motor drive signals.
The P7000 getting started gives an overview of all this:

  • Connecting my digital camera to iPod Touch w/o a computer?

    Hi,
Is there any device that I can use to connect my digital camera to iPod Touch for file transfer without linking up with the computer? I am very interested in finding one for my dad as he wants to use the iPod Touch as a secondary storage and photo viewer when he's taking photos away from home or access to computer.
Also, is there any photo viewer app for iPod that can display RAW files?
Please help and thank you very much!

It would be a great feature to be able to view (and back up) photos on the 'big screen' of an iPod Touch when on holiday for instance.
For me a reason to (for now not) buy one.
There's seems to be a possibility to get wifi on your camera. (special card) ??
Then you could use an app called Regal Media to transfer.
But anyway it would be much better to be able to just connect the camera to the iPod Touch with usb.
I hope this will be possible soon.

  • Audio switching using optical connection

I am directly connecting to my 2005-era Denon receiver (AV3805, no HDMI) using an optical connection. With the ATV2 "Dolby Digital" setting to 'On', I can get Dolby Digital (5.1) from movies on iTunes, but I'm wondering if the Denon unit is capable of automatically detecting/switching between *Dolby Digital 5.1* and *two-channel stereo*, for example, if I wanted to also stream music. Am I missing a setting on the ATV2 that is preventing the receiver from doing this? Setting the ATV2 to 'Auto' does not seem to force the Denon unit to decide on its own. Thoughts from others with similar receiver set-ups would be appreciated.

Can you not configure the amp's input to automatically detect the feed?
I set the input to 'Auto' on my older Yamaha DSP and it switches automatically.
I don't think the optical feed itself can tell the amp what to do - it just has to detect what's coming in and respond appropriately.
For 2 channel audio AppleTV should be outputting linear PCM, but I believe the newer one adulterates it by up-converting to 16 bit 48kHz, whereas the older unit didn't fiddle with the sample rate.
I'm not sure either if the Dolby Digital setting in the AppleTV menus only affects HDMI output, whereas a surround track just gets passed though on optical if it exists, if not a 2 channel 48kHz 16bit bitstream is sent.

  • [kinda urgent] Is that possible signing without digital ID?

    Hello!
I want to ask two questions. Those things might similar to each other, which may concerning signing without Digital ID.
First one is that we want to get sign right away right on the place(maybe without Digital ID). Probably a pad or something, such the device we use when taking bills with credit card, would be connected to the computer. Is that possible or at least sounds probable? and if it is, please let me know how.
Not only that, I wanna ask u one more thing. It is using pdf file with table pc, such as I-PAD. hmm.. giving an example, let's say I read a dynamic forms with I-pad, and I want to sign without Digital ID thing, specifically 'on the pad'. is that possible? like the former one, if it is, please tell me how to do it.
The former one is more important and the fact whether possible or not is the first priority.
In case the information is not specific enough, just comment about that, I am gonna add more detail.
kinda in a hurry, Please help me.
    Any comment would be appreciated!!

The PDF format supports many types of "Electronic" signatures, including signatures created using a signature pad.  Acrobat and Reader (with a reader extended form) have the ability to sign PDF documents using Digital IDs (x509 digital certificates) out of the box.  Other types of signatures are supported using third party plugins.
