Optical digital and analog audio out

I just purchased a Pavilion 500-214 with IDT High Def Audio CODEC / DTS Sound+
Is it possible to get both opitcal digital audio out and analog (speakers/headphones) out at same time? Stereo amp needs access to both for multizone/source function. I can manually pick one or the other before playback - it is clunky in that when switching audio out devices the active will turn off but one switching to does not always turn on. But i really need both simultaneously active for amp to work properly. I have also found rear speaker jack to be more stubborn during switching than front headphone jack.

I have done some research on whether or not one can utilize both digital or analogue audio out at the same time, and unfortunately this is not possible.

65x900b - two questions - amazon in dolby 5.1 and using audio out with subwoofer

Does the amazon app output 5.1 like netflix? I can't seem to find any way to set the amazon audio.Also I have used a 1/8 y adapter and plugged it into the audio out on the TV. One end of the Y goes to my A/V receiver and the other to the wireless transceiver for the subwoofer. The cable from the wireless transceiver to the tv is a mono cable so if i have them both plugged into the Y one of the channels cannot be heard. The subwoofer works fine. But when I change to audio out like I said I loose one channel. When I unplug the mini cable from the Y adapter however I get full stereo sound outputting. Is there anything I can do to resolve this conflict. Can I use a stereo mini cable for the wireless transceiver for the subwoofer.ThanksLloyd

Amazon with Digital Dobly 5.1 is already supported. Please make sure to update your TV to the latest software, kindly check this link for further details and steps by steps procedures. In addition, please make sure to perform the steps below to Refresh the internet content of the TV once the installation is complete.
Press the HOME button, then select [Settings]
[Network] → [Refresh Internet Content].
The Analog Audio Out cannot drive both a stereo system and a Subwoofer. If you connect a Subwoofer to the TV SWF-BR100 the frequency response of the audio output is limited to the subwoofer frequencies.
To output 5.1 surround sound from your TV an ARC (HDMI ) or the Optical Out connection is needed because analog audio out support stereo sound.

Breakoutbox for Digital and Analog Output

Hallo everybody
i need to design a breakout box with BNC and SMD connectors for Digital and Analog output (the DAQ cards we use are PXI-6723 for analog and PXI 6259 mostly for the digital an fast AO Channels) I am looking for tutorials and info material for that. On what I have to pay attention what would be a good circuit diagramm design and so on.
Maybe you could give me some tips where I can find good Material about that.

first of all I'll need some more information about your intention. What exactly are you going to do? Do you want to connect, or divide signals? (Which signals?)
Maybe if you have a look in the manuals of the cards, you'll get closer to this. Here you can find out the pin assignment of the cards.

Yes. Both adapters (the .2m adapter and small adapter with no cable) have built in DACs just for that purpose.

I personally have a speaker dock thing from iHome. It uses analog audio. I have tried it with both types of adapters and it works perfectly.

Array of different (digital and analog) values into multigraph

Hello everyone,
So I have an array with a timestamp on the first column, either "off" or "on" string on the second column, and a number value string on another. The columns are based of variables that reads data based on an update rate. My question is, what is the easiest way to separate these values into a digital and analog graphs. This is because the number values are so high that the "off" and "on" signal is being pushed down as the y-axis auto-scales. I'm hoping that I can use a multigraph, but the multigraph puts the data in one graph (since it's one array).
Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

I have no experiance with this product, so can not give you a definative answer.
The best I can do is to suggest you try it, if it does not work then you most likely can not do what you want.
Also what version of the driver are you using, I have checked the
download page and version 2.1 only works for CVI 6 or higher and LV 7
or higher.

Splitting digital/analog audio outs?

I'm wondering if there's a way to split the audio out of an Intel Mac Mini into both analog and digital outputs. I'd like both active at the same time.
I've got a Mini in my home theater rack now, which is great. To keep things easy to use for the rest of the family I have the audio and video going straight to the TV. The TV only has analog in for audio. But I also want to run optical digital audio to the receiver to take advantage of the big speakers when appropriate (not used every day).
Conceptually it might need just a splitter, but I've never seen such a thing.

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to do this in a trivial fashion. The mini will detect what you have plugged into it (analog or digital) and will only output the proper data.
What I have at home to work around this issue to route digital content to my 7.1 receiver yet stereo to my whole house cable channel is to take the digital out from my receiver and pipe it through a device that converts the digital signal to analog.
The only thing I've been able to find to do this for a somewhat reasonable price is the Thrustmaster. Its quite a hack as this is intended to be used with a set of headphones but it works pretty well.

Optical out and RCA audio out -- do they both work simultaneously?

On teh Apple TV, does audio get output over the digital optical output and the RCA audio jacks simulatenously?

Optical and HDMI sound works simultaneously as well. You can use an optical to SPDIF converter to convert it to coax, then send across the house via cheap RG6 satellite cable and convert it back if necessary to optical if you want your surround amplifier in an equipment closet somewhere or away from your wall mounted TV.
When you don't want surround sound, you can simply turn the TV speaker volume back up. I haven't tried the RCA jacks, but it appears that all audio outputs are active simultaneously.
When you activate volume control, the apple remote will modify the volume level of the optical output as well.

Connecting 5700 with laptops' only digital AND analog output

Although I'm an experienced creative user this is the first time I'm posting. I looked trough the forums but I couldn't find any answer to my question and I hope this is not the "n"th time it is asked...
I have Inspire 5700 Digital speakers and I recently bought a Sony VAIO VGN-FES laptop, with an Intel 945PM Express chipset, which features Intel HD audio. In the sound setup utility of Sigmatel HD audio, there is even an option to enable digital SPDIF output, which I enabled. But when I connect the digital din cable to my laptops only output jack (headphones...) I have no sound at all...
I thought that it may be due to the fact that the jack is not digital only. But I still want to have real digital 5.1 audio. So could anyone tell me how I can do that?

in the sony forums the answer I recieved was that the headphone jack was normally 2.1 analog, but I didn't receive a fulfilling answer to my query about the reason to the spdif setting in the setup utility and the chipsets features. That's why I came here The only output I have on the computer is the one for the headpohes. But there is a docking station that I could buy, having an optical out.

Apple TV great on older DVI TV w/ simple digital to analog audio converter

I bought a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) for $59.95 to convert optical audio (via Toslink) to RCA analog stereo jacks.
Device I purchased was a DAC-2016 S/PDIF to Analog RCA cnvt.
Very compact!
Also, bought a Belkin Toslink cable for $19.95 at the local Apple Store.
Works perfectly with my HDTV that only has DVI and Component inputs (plus coax, component, etc.)
I just bought it last month.
Googled it a minute ago. Price seems to have gone back up to $89.95. (List price is $99.95.) Not available right now. Maybe Apple TV caused it to sell out.
Let me know if any of you can find this item in stock anywhere or have another solution. I have a friend who has an older HDTV with DVI inputs.

Finally realized that it was the Gefen box not working!?!?!? I went to the store and asked them to try it out and they had trouble too. Another Gefen was tried and it worked. They all said they had never seen a defective one before. Thanks anyway for your help. It was appreciated!

Trouble running DVI video and HDMI audio out of 6950

Twin frozr iii 6950 2gb (X2 crossfire)
Asus VG236 Monitor
Windows 7
MSI P67A-G43 Motherboard
Yamaha RX-V371 Receiver
I have two Twin Frozr iii 2gb 6950 cards and am attempting to use the HDMI on the video card solely for 5.1 audio out to my receiver while using video through the DVI jack of the same card directly to my monitor without success.
-Audio functions if I run the HDMI from the card into my receiver, then out to my Asus VG236 monitor.
-Audio functions when I run from the card to my receiver then out to my plasma tv.
-Audio functions if I have the DVI run directly to the Asus VG236 monitor and HDMI to the receiver then plasma tv (only in dual display and the tv must be on for audio to function this way. If I turn the tv off even though the receiver is still on the audio stops working and windows sound lists the 'AMD HDMI Output' as not plugged in).
-Audio even fuctions when I run DVI to the monitor and HDMI to the receiver, then out to the HDMI port on the same monitor but the monitor will only run at 60hz this way even when DVI is selected on the monitor, as though it defaults to the HDMI when dvi and hdmi are both plugged into the monitor.
And if i run the hdmi to the receiver "HDMI IN" port without using the "HDMI OUT" port from the receiver to anything, like my tv or monitor, the sound doesn't work and in windows sound the "AMD HDMI Output" is listed as "not plugged in" .
I purchased this monitor for the true 120hz capabilities, the HDMI on this monitor doesn't support 120hz, the maximum is 60hz. DVI is required to run at 120hz. I don't see any option in windows sound settings or CCC to resolve this.
I have also tried disabling onboard audio in BIOS with no effect.
For now i'm running the audio out my MOBO jack through an optical cable to the receiver but optical only supports 2.1 sound.
Any suggestions you can offer would be appreciated, thank you

What are the separate "digital" and " analog" cable (or wires) for that connect inside pc c

, you know the ones I mean. They go from the cd/dvd rom dri'ves and then to, in my case the SB audigy 2 card.
Can someone tell me if they are needed, what they are used for if they ARE needed and the diff. between the analog and digital functions of the wires?
And anything else abou them, because I used to use them be then stopped and I dont see any loss in functions of my computers sound!!!

If you are using XP or 2000 then these cables are no needed. If you are running earlier versions of Windows, then you need these connecters for you to get CD Audio and DVD Audio to the sound card.

Simultaneous digital and analog with pulseaudio [solved]

Goal: have pulse audio output audio over HDMI and through line-out.
I found this thread which details two potential solutions to this problem. The more complex one isn't appealing to me, but the simplistic one quoted below is... but I can't seem to get it to work.

That's what I do to simultaneously output to my speakers and to HDMI, so I'd assume it would work for you too, even though you seem to have already figured it out.
Is anyone successfully doing it? My problem is that within pavucontrol>playback I cannot seem to select both the analog and hdmi sources. For example, I have mplayer playing a movie (should be HDMI) and mpd playing music (should be analog). My only two options under pavucontrol>playback are:
*Internal Audio Analog Stereo
*Simultaneous output to Internal Audio Analog Stereo
I have no option for HDMI.

Got it! The key was understanding that whatever is selected in the GUI is the default device. I therefore selected HDMI as the device and added the following to
/etc/pulse/default.pa
### Load analog device
load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:0,0
load-module module-combine-sink sink_name=combined
set-default-sink combined
After a restart of pulseaudio, I simply went into pavucontrol and defined which program would use which device. I'll update the wiki with these when I have some time. Thanks to doorknob60 for his original post.

Problem Receiving Digital and Analog Channels- 22LV610U

I have a LCD/DVD combo TV model 22LV610U and had satellite tv for over a year and the tv worked great! After shutting off the satellite, I wanted to only receive the local channels via antenna. I bought a new RadioShack Indoor TV antenna ( to receive basic UHF, VHF and FM radio signals to HDTV and FM HD Radio signals)...
After setting it up, I still only saw snow...I tried setting up the channels through the menu, and was not picking up any signals. I was also unable to view the "DTV Settings" options for Digital Signal...
Do I need a different kind of antenna? I called Toshiba customer service and was told the HDTV antenna would not be compatible, however, ALL channels are now digital and must be received through this kind of antenna...

If you are using a STB, then you should connect it with an HDMI cable or component cable as you did.
However, you do not need to autoprogram your TV if you are using an HDMI or component or composite or any other indirect connection. That is because the STB is acting as the tuner; it will automatically receive channel information as part of its on-screen graphics. All the HDMI connection is doing is delivering that video feed to your TV.
Therefore, what you need to do is press the "input" button on your TV remote and select HDMI, or component, whatever you are using. Then you control the channels using your STB remote, not your TV remote, which changes the channels on your STB, not your TV. Again, your TV is only receiving the video from your STB, it's not directly changing the channel itself. It's like having a VCR and turning your TV to channel 3 in the old days; you just need to pick up the video.
The reason why, when you tried hooking the TV up directly to the wall with coax is because most FiOS programming is encrypted digital. That is why the STB is needed to "unscramble" the channels and output them to your TV along with all of its on-screen graphics and program guide. Therefore, if you connect coax directly to the TV, the only channels you will receive are local channels (i.e. CBS, NBC, PBS), the ones that Verizon cannot by law encrypt. The reason why some of those channels are "16-2" or "17-214" is because digital broadcasting, as opposed to analog (think the digital transition last summer) uses "sub-channels," which are the -XXX. Verizon can assign whatever number they want to their encrypted programming (i.e. ESPN HD can be 214-1445) because the STB will read that channel and display it within it's own system as Ch. 570.

SBlive Value and 2 audio out settin

Hi, Just a quick question. I want to be able to hook up 2. speakers to the front speaker out, and have the identical sound come out of the headphones I have hooked up to the rear speaker out. I had an old version of AudioHQ that allowed some option (Ibelieve it was 2 speaker legacy audio out or something like that) which allowed both the front speaker out and rear speaker out on my SBli've value card to have the same output sound. I just recently formatted and installed the new control panel, and I can't for the life of me find that option under the new version of audioHQ (.0) using windowsXP pro SP2.
All I want is a setup where I can listen to mp3s from anywhere in the house but then just turn the volume down on the speakers and play an online game through the headphones without climbing behind my computer to switch wires and without disturbing the wife. Any help would be much appreciated, or if someone has a better suggestion to my problem it would also help.

Did this soundcard come preinstalled in your Gateway computer? If so you will need to contact your computer manufacturer for support as the card may be OEM. OEM components are often modified from their retail standards and require special drivers that only the Vendor will have access to.
