Optical disc drive will not open

Hi there,
All of a sudden my disc drive will not open. Neither will it open when rebooting and ejecting it before windows has finished start-up. I've checked power cables etc. etc. I do see the drive in Windows Explorer, and there are no mentions of driver issues or whatsoever. Can anyone help?
product: hp pavilion p7 1040nl
operating system: windows 7
error message when trying to open drive in explorer (front button doesn't work): An error occurred while ejecting 'DVD/CD-RW drive'

Open Device manager, expand DVD/CD-rom drives
right click on your dvd drive and select "uninstall", then reboot your PC, windows will reinstall the device, see if it opens now.
If it still will not eject, take a small paper clip that has been straigtened out and slide it in the eject hole on the drawer front, see if it will open this way, doing this will check to see if it is jammed. If it opens with the paper clip and the drawer works smoothly then there is something wrong with the drive itself and will need replaced

Optical drive will not open CD or DVD since upgrading to Lion.

My Macbook Pro has just developed the exact same problem within the last month.  Mine has been working fine since upgrading to Lion (upgraded when it was launched), but it has suddenly stopped playing any DVDs or CDs.
Does anyone have any suggestions before I book a genius bar appointment?

  • CD/ Blu-ray Drive Will Not Open/ Function Correctly

My CD/ Blu-ray drive will not open. I can force it open with a paper clip and put in a disk that way but it does not activate and read the disk. The drive also does not appear as a file selection under my hard disk drives section of my computer.
With this I am assuming my optical drive is broken so I tried looking for a replacement. I searched for the name of the optical drive in the HP PartSurfer and it says it is called SPS-DRV DVD SATA BD Combo 12.7. Just to be sure, is that the correct part I am looking for? If so, and say I were to go ahead and order this part, how do I go about removing the optical drive in my labtop and replacing it with the new drive?

  • My CD/DVD drive will not open

My CD/DVD drive will not open when I insert any type CD/DVD. The CD/DVD just runs but will not open.

    Try cleaning the lens:
Use a DVD lens cleaning disk.
Use a few shots of compressed air in the slot.
Wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth?) around a business card and gently insert it in the slot.
If no success, a trip to the genius bar at an Apple store is the best option.
    Ciao.

My external hard drive will not open and only shows up in Disk Utilities. When I try yo repair it, it give me and error of invalid sibling link. How do I fix my external hard drive?

Invalid sibling link may not be fixable by Disk Utility. (Disk Utility is very conservative, and will not attempt repairs that might cause you to lose data.)
It is an indication of serious Directory damage.
    that leaves
    a) third-party Utilities that will take those risks, or
    b) re-initializing the drive (which deletes all your data) and restoring from another backup source.
    c) "Copying off whatever files you can salvage" has gone by, and you cannot copy anything off a drive that will not mount. You may be able to use "rescue" programs such as prosoft engineering Data Rescue to copy files to another drive, but that sounds a lot better than its reality. You may get many files, but not get ANY filenames.

  • Disc drive will not eject in Windows 7

I just upgraded from XP pro to Windows 7 home premium yesterday and it's all been working great save one little detail: my disc drive will not eject discs. I've tried the eject button (I'm on an aluminum macbook late 2008) as well as manually ejecting the discs from explorer. When I boot up in OSX I can eject discs fine. It's probably also important to note I'm using the bootcamp drivers that came with my 10.5.6 OSX installation disc, so I don't know if those are up to par for running Windows 7.
    Any suggestions would be great

    Hi,
I have the same problem with windows 7 not ejecting discs (with macbook pro late 2008 with latest Bootcamp drivers installed).
At the moment I can eject the dics only by putting windows 7 to sleep (closing the lid) and on wake the disc ejects by pressing the normal Eject key.
Hope apple (or MS ??) will fix this...

The same error is produced when I try to mount a smb share.
I select the "connect to server" (cmd-K). Input the share info "smb://<user>@<server>/<share_path>
At the auth prompt, I input my credentials.
The error pops up, same as original poster.

  • Cd drive will not open!

Well, this may be a common problem but I have a computer game that I finished playing and I went to eject it.. and it had the eject icon thing pop up put it would not open! I tried everything... eject + fn everything!

First try a Restart while holding down the mouse button.
If that doesn’t work, look at these links:

  • Drive will not open

My G5 died after some faulty advice from support but I cannot open the disk drive. Yep, I've tried eject, holding down commandoption+FO but nothing will open that thing. Support will not tell me how but told me to search support. I did and haven't found one thing to tell me how to open up this little puppy and take it out to get it to open to put the Leopard inatall disk back in to fix it!!! Anyone here tell me how to take it out? Hubby opened it but didn't want to mess it up any further. TIA
    Connie

DP, thank goodness for that; we both thought we were going nuts not seeing something!! All I get when I try to turn on is the "infamous" file folder with a question mark......meaning it can't find my hard drive. I could just shoot that first guy I talked to at support. He clearly wasn't as knowledgeable as the second guy. But it's my fault for quitting during an install. If at all possible I'd like to fix it ourself. Hubby is inclined towards fixing just about anything I have around the house but don't know if he'd feel comfortable touching our computers. AND we don't have a local Mac store. CompuUSA shut down a couple of months ago and there is a MacLife store but they have a severe attitude. Not pleasant at all. That's what you get when you move to this area I guess. But he could remove it if we had instructions on how. The 3rd person I talked to said she could NOT tell me how over the phone. I suggested an email but she said to go on to support and type in "how to remove drive" and that it's a PDF file. I saw nothing that even comes close to anything I've type in for the last 2 hours!! I even asked her to email me the URL but she said no. I've truly never had a bad experience with Mac support until this time. You know where to find something on "how to remove drive"????

  • Recovered illustrator file from a hard drive will not open

    Hi,
I just recovered  some illustrator CS2/CS3 files that were accidently deleted from a hard  drive using Recuva version 1.39.509.  The files were detected as being  in excellent shape and they are recognized as illustrator files in  windows.  But I can not open them!
Please help!  These are months of work that could be lost!
Dear Jacob - I dont know why the previous discussion disappeared.  I have tried all your suggestions, including following the instructions for recovering illustrator files... None of them worked!  I am at a loss!  Again, every single one of the recoverd illustrator files can not be read, are supposedly 100% healthy from the softwared used to recover them, but they do not open!  Other files such as word adn images were recovered successfully - I dont understand what is missing here!

    TG,
As you can see on the pages mentioned in post #3, you can open the AI files as text files, and then you can see and compare the lines of code building each file.
The first part of each file is the wrapping defining the structure, folllowed by the part defining the artwork. Some of the artwork part may be corrupted, but more likely the structure part at the beginning is (it may be as little part snipped off at the very start).
So you can copy (at least some of) the part of code defining the artwork from the corrupted file and insert into the sound file after the initial part.
You may compare the two files and try to work out which part to move and where, using the file parts shown on those Adobe pages as guides.
I hope this was not too woolly.
