Optical Disc Drive won't take discs

I took my Macbook into the Apple Store last week, because the processor failed. I just got it back from being repaired yesterday, and all seemed fine when I wanted to play The Sims 3 this evening and my macbook wouldn't even take the disc when I tried to put it in. It just sits there about most of the way in, and when I try to push the rest it in, there's no noises and nothing grabbing it, just sort of a spring trying to push it back out to me.
Did someone forget to put something back when they repaired it? Because it was working just fine before. I've tried SMC and PRAM resets, nothing. Does this mean I have to make another trip to the Apple Store?

Try holding down the eject button while booting up the computer.
Once it has booted up fully try inserting a disc again.
If this doesn't resolve it, and you have tried an SMC reset, and the other steps outlined at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2801 under the "drive doesn't accpet discs" sub-heading, then take it back to trhe dealer.
Cheers

  • My disc drive won't take disc

I tried to insert a disc into my disk drive and it will not go in. It feels like there is a disc inserted or something.

    Hi Michael,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I don't advise trying to fix this yourself. If it is still in warranty especially. Let an Apple Tech work with it to see what the problem is. The CD drive has become more complex with the slot drive. I would hate for you to void your warranty because you tried to fix it.

  • Disc Drive won't take any disc

I have a new MacBook Pro computer, its only a few months old. I have only used the disc drive once and it worked great! I tried using it again and it won't work at all now. It won't feed the disc into the computer. What can I do?

I'm not trying to sound condescending but have you tried pushing the disc in almost all the way? If so, try a reboot of the computer and give it another try. Still no luck? Try running the apple hardware test to see if it says there are any hardware issues.

  • Disc Drive won't take DVD+RW

I want to free up some of the space on my macbook, so I'm trying to put some of my photos on a DVD+RW. The Brand is Memorex. At the top it says "rewritable-4X-4.7GB-120min".
When I put the disc in the drive, it makes all the usual noises, and sounds as though it is acting quite normally, but then it spits the disc back out. There is no error message or warning or explanation of any kind. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be? Is it just that the macbook disc drive isn't compatible with DVD+RW discs?

This is what it says. I presume it means I can read them, but I can't write them? Is there any kind of upgrade I can do that would allow me to burn DVD+RWs?

    Hello,
I am 99.9% sure there is no disc drive, yet my mac won't accept a disc. I went to Finder>Devices and sure enough, I don't see a disc icon. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Suggestions?

  • X205 9800 disc drive won't read discs, have external CD/DVD ROM.

I have an X205 9800.  I upgraded to Windows 7.  After a few weeks the disc drive stopped working.  It will not read any of my discs/cds/dvd/etc.
I ordered an external Toshiba USB disc drive.  It works great!  No issues, but I want to use my recovery media I ordered from Toshiba.com.  It will read, initially, from the external USB disc drive.  But once I initialize the recovery media it tries to use the internal disc drive, not the USB one.
I restarted the laptop.  Hit F12.  Changed it from my internal to my external.  Saved changes.  Still nothing.
I even tried disabling the internal one as well.  Still same problem.  The laptop wants to read the media from the internal disc drive and it will not read any disc I have.
How do I get my laptop to do a full recovery from my USB disc drive instead of my internal one on my laptop?
    Or...
Is there a fix to get my internal disc drive to read my cds/dvds?
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

    Hello,
Is the internal DVD drive recognized by the laptop? Can you see it on computer?
If yes- Try going to the device manager, uninstall the DVD driver then restart the laptop. The DVD driver should be installed automatically after restarting the laptop.
If no - Do the upper and lower filter troubleshooting.
Click on start, type REGEDIT on RUN or if you are using vista/windows 7, tyoe it on the search programs and files..
It will go directly to registry editor.
Look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE click on + sign or the arrow then look for SYSTEM click on + sign or the arrow then look for CurrentControlSet click on + sign or the arrow then look for Control click on + sign or the arrow then look for Class click on + sign or the arrow then look for {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} click on + sign or the arrow then look on the right part of the window, look for LowerFilter and upper filter. Delete them or even if you can only find one of them, just delete it then restart the laptop.
    Hope this help.

  • Please help.  Optical drive won't take disc, imac won't boot up!

I installed Tiger 10.4.6 and it was working just fine, had done several restarts.
Then I put in an office for mac cd and it wouldn't boot up. I tried ejecting it wouldn't work. I finally got the disc out, but the computer wouldn't start.
I booted up in safe mode, i booted up in single user mode and did the fgsk thing. I got the I/0 error.
How can I fix this? I don't care if I lose everything on the computer, I just want it to work again.

Oh, that presents a problem. Try resetting the SMU.
Otherwise, I'm afraid you will need to take it in for repair.

  • I have a 2 year old MacBook Pro and the superdrive has stopped working, it won't take discs in as if there is one already inside but iTunes or the dvd player doesn't recognise that there is a disc inside and if there is it can't be ejected

I have a 2 year old MacBook Pro and the superdrive has stopped working, it won't take discs in as if there is one already inside but iTunes or the dvd player doesn't recognise that there is a disc inside and if there is it can't be ejected, i have tried shutting down and restartinf while holding down the trackpad, as recommended on some forums but that has done nothing
It might be a huge coincidence but the drive was working fine before i installed lion?

Installing Lion would not cause the superdrive to stop working.  Are you unsure as to whether or no a cd/dvd is inside?  Something may be broken inside and you should consider bringing it in for service.

Just noticed my disc drive won't open using the eject key...I can open tray with toast and disc will mount and eject it.. but eject key won't work...have repaired permissions after the updates... one was for bluetooth which I don't have installed..other was security...
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated..

What system do you have? From what I read it looks as if you haven't yet installed 10.4.3.
Try (re-)installing 10.4.3 using the combined upgrade.
Oops... I just saw you indcated you are running 10.3.7. Any reason you did not upgrade to 10.3.9? My advice to reinstall the combined update to the latest system still holds
Before that, just to be safe (one never knows) don't forget to backup!

  • Superdrive won't accept discs, superdrive won't accept discs

last week i bought a usb superdrive for my new imac, and today after ejecting a disc it won't take a disc at all , makes no sounds nothing , plugged it into a diiferent computer and it ejected the disc i was trying to put in, but wouldn't let me insert one. i've checked that the computer is saying that there is a superdrive connected, but it comes up pale grey instead of black, and says no media present even though trying to insert disc.

A PRAM reset will not erase your HD. Because your machine is so new you should be callling AppleCare. You have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support. If you havne't already I'd STRONGLY recommend you buy AppleCare. This will extend the warrranty to 3 years and also give you 3years of phone support. It is also transferable if you have time remaining and buy another iMac. If you don't know how to contact Apple directly please click

  • HP Envy 15 Optical Drive Won't Eject Disc

I tried to burn a DVD and loaded a DVD-R into the optical drive. Burned the disc, now the disc won't eject. I try restarting the computer and going through Computer to eject, and nothing. It sounds like it tries to eject, fails, takes back in the disc and runs it.  This is definitely a problem, considering I'm a filmmaker and need to produce this DVD soon.
Please tell me I don't have to wait for an HP tech to take my computer for a week and a half to fix my brand freaking new notebook that I dished out over a thousand dollars for. This kind of thing is infuriating. And it seems others share this problem. So I wonder why it wasn't fixed.
Thank you in advance for all the help.

  • CD/DVD drive won't accept discs?

I'm trying to play a DVD in my disc drive. I have an HP Pavilion slimline, model should not matter because it is just an issue with playing discs. It has the Vertical disc drive.
So I have the small DVDs that go in video cameras. There is clearly a small round circle that will accept them. I have played these types in computers with the horizontal drive. My issue is with this being a vertical drive and a smaller disc, it will not stay in the tray.
So should I not be bothering because it won't take these discs or is there some sort of adapter I need to make it stay?

Some drives have a lip or tab to help hold the smaller DVD's in place for the vertical operation.  Apparently that one does not.  The only solution that seems to be using an external DVD drives that lays horizontal.

  • MacBook CD/DVD drive won't read disc

I have a Apple MacBook MC207LL. I have run into a major problem. My CD/DVD drive won't recogonize a disc when it's inserted (I have to force eject it). Disk utility shows that there is a disc present in the CD/DVD drive.
My major issue is that I erased my partition so I can have a clean install of my laptop. Now I can't reinstall the OS because it won't read the disc or a USB.
Is there a way to use Terminal to force it to read my data on the disc?
Otherwise I am stuck with an empty computer that I will never be able to use I have done research on this and nobody has run into this exact problem as me. If someone can take their time to help me out that would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem, but now mine wont even notice that the disc is there! I wouldsay take it to the genius bar.

  • DVD drive will not take disc

I know there are other threads about this, but it seems like my situation is a little different than others. My combo drive has worked fine since I bought my laptop. Now, of course, it stops working one month after my warranty expires. It just won't take my disc and there's no disc in the drive. I've tried all of the following:
    1) Resetting
    2) Resetting PRAM
    3) Resetting PMU
    4) Resetting Open Firmware
None of these options worked. Is there anything else I can try, or do I have to shell out the money for Apple to fix it?

I am having the same problem. If you hear get some advice that fixes the trick, I'd be grateful to hear from you. Thanks and good luck!
