Optical drives ejects any and all forms of discs!
Just as the title says, on my Macbook Pro which i bought somewhere around july of '06, my optical drive will no longer read any form of disk. DVD, CD, CD-R, DVD-R...nothing. All it does is let it spin for about 30-45 seconds and spits it back out. Is there anything you guys can recommend or should I just give Apple a ring? I have the Applecare Extended warranty so either way it doesnt really matter.

I had the same trouble with my MBPI got in Sept. 06. I had to take to Apple and they put new drive in. I have A'Care on it.
Nothing you can do, so get them to give you a new one.

Just wondering what I should do about this. The drive will spit out anything I give it. I put in a cd/dvd and the drive will wait......maybe 5 seconds and then spits it out. What can I do from here? Also, if I need to replace the drive, what are some cheap compatible dvd-r drives out there?
AustinUntil you replace or fix..if you keep your hand in front of the eject slot and don't allow it to pop out...it might take 3 4 or 5 trys,, but mine will eventually work. just a band aid fix.

Optical DVD drive ejects any inserted disc and does not work!
I can not read or write certain DVDs in my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro since upgrading to Mountain Lion.
I insert an empty DVD-R (Verbatim) and it is being ejected. I insert a recorded DVD-R (Verbatim) and it is being ejected.
I have tried a commercial Video DVD - (Sony) and that one actually did work ... so I am pretty clueless - I can not write any DVD right now.
In the forum I have found many posts regarding this issue under Lion already.
However, my drive used to work fine under Lion and I was able to watch / record DVDs etc.
Now, it is no longer working and I can not use it. Does anyone know how to solve this?
So far I have found the following hints (which did not work for me):
ALL OF THESE THINGS DID NOT WORK:
1) Reset the PRAM (https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379)
2) Uninstall all virtual machines (Virtual Box, etc.)

some people talk about it being an issue with the 64 bit kernel and that you should try to reboot into 32bit (holding down 32 on startup)

The most disturbing thing to me is that multiple of the people in these threads contacted Apple and in the end where told, it's probably a bug... now why is this - obviously critical bug - not being resolved, yet ?

I just got back from the Apple store, after setting up an appointment, and they told me that my life is horrible because my MacBook Pro is no longer under warranty as of 32 days ago. This is really BS.
However just like any other company that treats me with poor customer service I just take my future business elsewhere and make sure not to recommend them to any friends and family - as well as tell them about my horrid experience. -
P775-S7232 optical drive powered off and cannot power on
I've found the answer (at least for me) to the optical drive powering off and refusing to power on again in my Satellite P775-S7232. When it happened, my internal optical drive would only be recognized intermittently, even in the BIOS. I finally tried installing a new hard drive and all of a sudden, the optical drive was working again.
I then installed a clean copy of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 from a boot DVD, installed all the NECESSARY hardware drivers from a TOSAPINS Folder DVD disc I had burned earlier and AVOIDED installing any and all TOSHIBA-branded software and demo software from that folder, especially anything that had to do with "power management" or "ecology (ECO)". The only exceptions being the Toshiba Web Camera Application and the TOSHIBA HDD Protection (solves the Unknown Device ACPI/TOS620A error in Windows 7 Device Manager).
I don't think anything was wrong with the original HDD, in fact I'm reformatting the drive right now on a different system and it appears to be just fine. But something went wrong in the original Toshiba software to turn off that optical drive and not turn it back on again. So far, with a virgin installation of Win7 x64 from a different source and being VERY selective on what I reinstalled, everything has been working great and I'm much happier without all the crapware and "helpful" Toshiba applications.I found that my optical drive would power off & couldn't power it on (like many of you) when it arrived md Nov.
Did a bunch of research & tried a lot of things and it finally stayed on.
A few days ago it was powered off again. Finally noticed that the day before I got an auto download of Lenovo's power manager.
I 'uninstalled' it & the drive stays on.
Needless to say I turned off auto updates. -

I don't know what drive failed.
I'm thinking here your internal drive failed? Was it replaced?
You have a blank internal drive and a TimeMachine drive and your asking how to reinstall OS X so you can restore from the TimeMachine drive?
How are you getting here? Another machine or device and what is it?

Optical drive ejects Windows 7 install disk
I am running Snow leopard 10.6 on a late 2008 MacBook Pro. I have been trying to install windows 7 64bit through bootcamp, but when I get to the part where it asks for the disk, the optical drive ejects the disk! Anyone with a solution?
Hi everyone, thanks for your input. I thought I'd run a laser cleaner through the drive first and see if it would make a difference as I never use the drive I thought it might be dusty. It seemed to work as BC was able to read the disk and kick off the install, however as soon as the install started, a black screen came up saying "Select CD-Rom Boot Type" which I wasn't expecting and had no idea what to do (I'm no techy!) so I quit the install and held down option on restart to boot the MAC OS>
This is a windows 7 legitimate install disk purchased yesterday from a PC build company. 64 bit. My Macbook pro 2008 model has an Intel core 2 processor (64 bit) so I'm pretty certain I am using the right windows version.
So I think this is over my head and I may take it to a store for install and hope for the best!

I couldn't find ANY and ALL operators in 10g SQL Reference? Are these operators being replaced by anything?

It seems as if when I push my home button there is a loud click or a clicking noise that shouldn't be there. If I push the home button in certain areas or kind of on the side it's not so bad. Also it seems as if the button is kind of loose or wiggles a little bit and can also feel the little silver ring and seems as if it's either not on properly or the home button is sunken in pretty good. I was at the Apple Store and checked out some display models and didn't notice it on those and they all felt solid. Has anyone else had this issue or experienced this? Any and all suggestions will help greatly...I just want to know if it's normal or how I should go about taking care of it...thanks!
ok...the doctor is in!....well, yes I agree with other posts concerning "clicky" crunchy touch id/home buttons...ah... we do swaps, cleanings, alcohol wipes....NO NO NO! yes dirt can and will trap inside the extreme minor spaces around the home button and the screen cutout..yes twirling a q-tip round the button only stuffs grime deeper in, but can clean the edge...in this case, that crunch you hear (new out-of-box), its a very popular notice that most do hear a crunchy glass-like snapping sound...being that the touch id does have a sensor ring on the outer side, the actual noise your hearing is ........wait for it......MISS-ALLIGNMENT!!!! yes... pop that sucker open, remove bracket....what do you see??. touch id pressed thru and adheared around the ends of the button...and also most cases, not perfectly aligned..that noise is the actual ring brushing against the screen hole cutout causing metal and glass to bind against eachother... re-seating the button will correct the issue..being that theyre so close together, the slightest miss-alignment can cause that annoying crunchy click sound. find a swap that doesn't...ok that one works but now the silent switch is loose!!!!! ive seen it all

Any and all color used is gray
I'm a digital scrapbooker. AT my wits end, any and all color I use in Photoshop Elements 12 is grey! Any photo I drag from the photo bin turns grey scale. I have uninstalled the program, and reset the preferences. Please HELP!

thanksI have had to replace 2 Super Drives and no it was not at all related to any software upgrades. I am quite frankly ticked that I have such an expensive laptop, and have had to replace 2 drives in 18 months. First one was under warranty second of course not. I replaced it with a non OEM, rather with a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K05. I would rather try my luck with something new, as opposed to the the same drive that has broken twice.
First time was the same as yours, second was an electrical issue which was causing the drive to continually eject. I checked with the repair person, to determine if I was causing the problems. I have no bends in the drive and there were no outward appearances of damage. I travel everyday with my laptop, it is a work/personal laptop. I use a rolling laptop bag, and recently travelled internationally with it and thought perhaps the jostling and vibration. But the first drive went out prior to me using it as a work laptop, did not travel much with it then. But with new job, I am everywhere rolling the laptop in a roll bag (so much easier to travel with)!
