Optical inputs on Audigy 2 ZS Platinum

I'm considering purchasing the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro and I have a question about the optical input functions on the external control box. I read that it can be used to capture music(i.e. from a guitar, etc) however I would be interested in using the optical input coming in from a stand alone DVD player or PlayStation 2. By doing this, would my speakers play the audio? In other words, will the optical inputs take the signal from an external device and process it into surround sound, AC3. I read that some other models will not, so thats why I'm asking.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I run my xbox and xbox 360 to the optical in with good results so im sure the out would give similar results.
So im gonna say yes, but im not sure.

  • No optical input on Audigy 2 ZS Noteb

I have the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook in a Toshiba Satellite P5-S409. I'm using a mini-to-Toslink cable to connect the input on the ZS to the optical out on the DVD player. I'm getting no sound in the notebook. I've covered the basic troubleshooting steps, e.g. making sure the input isn't muted. I've also tried connecting the ZS input to other optical out sources with no results, so I'm fairly certain the problem isn't related to settings in the DVD player.
Can anyone please suggest a fix? This is getting extremely frustrating.

Right, I've got a little further. I have plugged a DVD player into the Audigy box with a different cable (composite-composite, not scart-compostite any more) and it is working. Since I know that the VCR is working, I guess it must have been the scart-compostite cable that was giving me trouble.
Trouble is, I only have RF and scart outputs from the VCR. :-( I'll see if I can get hold of a different VCR and possibly a S-Video cable as well to test that.

  • Audigy 2 zs platinum Optical input

I have connected the xbox 360 into the optical input on my?audigy 2 platinum ?and i get surround sound and it is in sync for a while. After somewhere about 5-0min, the audio becomes out of sync with the video onscreen. If i unplug the optical input and plug it back in, the audio is back in sync for a while and then goes out of sync again. What can i do to fix this?I have the decoder enables in the option. No other programs are running. I have tried this with a dvd player with optical and also has the same problem. Thanks for your time ?Vince

4 to 5 months of emails to creative, and lots of reinstalling XP, i tried everything to get it to work, then they send youemails to tell you what things to do , but i had already done everything on their list, as i build computers for a living, so without being big headed if i cannot get it to work, then its faulty and no one is going to get it to work, as i said i invested more than money into this, as i spent over 5 months trying to get this to work, 30 or 40 installs of xp, different comfigurations to get it to work, the latest driver does not help either as the driver situation with creative is disgraceful, about time they realised a lot of people have the means now , high speed internet, to download the whole CD *. ISO,...
But no they want to fleece you some more just like MS in saying you can buy the newest drivers from them to fix their dodgy programming, dodgy hardware.
So all you can do is vote with your feet next time and purchase from another company, thats the only way creative is going to learn when their sales figures are hit for 6
I would not recommend going through the RMA process as mentoned b4, you will send them your 7. audigy 2 zs plat , and they will probably send you back a sound blaster 5. li've card, or an audigy 2 6. card.
they are useless and i gave up and stamped on the 6. they sent me as a replacement for a 7. audigy 2 zs platinum..
So email them, or even better if the company you bought it off are decent, get them to replace it, or better still as the company you bought it off to refund your money in the form of a credit note, then buy some other companys sound card, even if you have to be economical with the truth to the retailer, do it.

  • Problem with Audigy 2 Platinum Front Panel Input

0Problem with Audigy 2 Platinum Front Panel Input? Hey everyone,
Here's the background of the issue. I got a PS3 over the holidays for literally free
I had my computer out in a testbed style. Plugged the PS3 into my monitor HDMI --> DVI cable, and Red/White into the front RCA jacks of the Front Panel (Aux 2). As soon as I plugged in the cable, I got sound out of my speakers and was able to enjoy my PS3 in 720p
I put all of the components back into the case after cutting exhause and intake fan holes. I brought everything back to school, fired up the PC and PS3. Lo and behold, there is no more sound from the PS3. I know that PS3s are temperamental in moving, but I hooked the audio up to my TV and the sound came out just fine. The AD Ext cable looks like it's secure and in place. When I hooked up a mic and headphones to the front, they worked fine as well. However it seems to be just the AUX 2 RCA inputs that dont work anymore. Any ideas about how to fix this issue? Is there a function I have to turn on now in the software to allow sound to pass through? Any information would be wonderful!? I'm going to try an optical cable in the near future, just need to borrow one from a friend =/

    Problem Solved.
I had moved my cards around for better airflow. I moved the SB Audigy card from the bottom PCI slot to the top. Thinking this might be the problem, I moved the video card back to the top slot PCI-E and the sound card to the bottom PCI slot. Sound is now working again. Thanks for the thread views?:smileytongue:
Think that when I have to buy Win 7 for real if the problem would still persist if I moved the card again? Or is this a hardware limitation?

And in order to do so, what devices, cables, and such would I have to purchase?

If it is a ps2 I think they have a opiocal out which you could plug into your optical in.

  • Audigy 2 platinum S/Pdif input iss

Well, I've been trying all day to figure out what the issue is with this. I've scrambled through the forums for hours and haven't seen anyone with the exact same problem as I'm having.
I've had my Audigy card since it's release when I first built this computer. It's a bit dated at the moment but the problem I'm having shouldn't be a problem for several sources that I've found on the net and the website give clear indication that I've hooked everything up correctly.
    Now to the problem..
Today I decided to hook up my Playstation 3 to my spdif optical input on the audigy i/o dri've.
I've messed around with every option I can find and I do get 5. sound, the dolby digital logo pops up on my screen when it's receiving the signal from the ps3. The problem is that the sound is choppy. In the Audio console, the bit accurate tab says that the signal is unknown or invalid. I tell ya, I've tried absolutely everything I can think of EXCEPT reinstalling windows and I just can't be ask to do that lol.. I also decided to break out the old Playstation 2 since it also has an optical out and the sound is still choppy when I put in a game that supports dolby or dts sounds. I've tried all dvds as well.
Now from all the other post that I've found that don't exactly carry my issue, I've tried several settings from these as well. When I have the Playstation('s) use stereo sound Bit accurate shows the format being sent, but like I said before, dts/dolby show up as unknown but the Dolby icon pops up, so something is wrong with that lol.
Hope some one can help me out here, I really want this to work and it's driving me mad lol

    **update**
I went and bought a new optical cable to see if the one I was using wasn't good enough and that was just a waste of 20 bucks.. Still nothing, I hope some one around here can tell me if they have the problem I do with any of your sound blaster cards.. I'm starting to think that maybe my card has just poofed on me. I don't think thats the case because everything else works fine.. I read also where the bit stream tab will show up as invalid signal with dolby/dts even though it's working correctly. I was thinking thats the case because like I said, the dolby digital logo pops up when My PS3 sends audio to my audigy card..Message Edited by NeutralGold on 09-8-200708:36 PM

  • Can't get optical input to w

I have my XBox hooked up through my Audigy 2 Platinum Pro, and I was wanting to route the sound signal to my speaker system. I have the optical cord plugged into the Xbox output and into the Platinum Pro input, I have set the XBox up through the bios to output Dolby Digital and DTS and such. And I checked to make sure that the optical input wasn't muted or anything, and it isn't... but I don't get any sound from the XBox from this setup, and I don't know why. What do I need to do? (I have a 7. Speaker System also)

    Thanks for your reply
I am sorry for the problem you are facing.
To achieve outputs from all the speaker during speaker test, you will need to have an analog connection, or digital DIN connection.
That will be possible if you connect the three line out jacks on your soundcard, to the three audio input (analog jacks->green,black,orange) on your speaker, if it has this connection. Or, you may connect them using Digital DIN, if they have this connection.
If you are using digital connection (coaxial, optical), there will be no way to achieve sound output from all the speakers during 5. speaker test, as they carry stereo signal.

Please don't think I am being sarcastic, but from reading the

Also it would seem your department doesn't have the necessary technical

You will clearly see the inspire has no inputs other than Coaxial and

    Dear Martin
    Thanks for your reply
Your soundcard is Audigy 2 ZS
Your speaker is Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500
You will need to have a 3:3 cable(with the color green, black, orange)
to connect your soundcard to your speaker, to achieve the 5. effects
    with games.
    Below is the connection:
    - Connect line out jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Front' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the green color
    connection
    - Connect line out 2 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Rear' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the black color
    connection
    - Connect line out 3 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Center/Subwoofer' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the
    orange color connection
Once you have done the correct connection, play the game DOOM3.
Ensure you have selected either the EAX or surround option in the game
    settings.
    Does it work?

You have lost me. Your sound card clearly states that I can have EAX
surround decoding from the sound card I have purchased.
All of the games on your web site claim to give me an environmental

that will blow my mind, hence EAX.
All I have done wrong is NOT buying your decoder that comes with the

My issue is more to do with NO EAX from the rear and centre channels

All commercial digital connection eg. optical or coaxial cable will only
carry PCM stereo signal. If you want to output the signal to a surround
    5. with extra EAX environment effects, it will not be possible at all
since it is only restricted to stereo channel signal.
As per current industry limitations, we are bound to follow the standard
one-signal output for all our SPDIF and Optical output jacks. This is
something that is currently shared by all vendors for all products.
Please note that all games are not dolby digital, even they are , it
will require certain motherboard to encode it to dolby digital signal,
which our soundcard does not support.
You can only use analog connections to gain true 5. surround for
    gaming..

    Dear Martin
    Thank you for the reply.
Computer games written with support for 3D audio do not require a Dolby
Digital Interacti've Content Encoder (DICE) to output multichannel sound,
with no exceptions. Sound devices that support the real time encoder
technology from Dolby will simply receive the multichannel wave file
output and encode it in real time to a somewhat modified Dolby Digital
bitstream. Creative does not support the Dolby Digital Interacti've
Content Encoder on any of its sound cards.
The only difference between a Sound Blaster card and an audio card that
has a real time encoder, is that you can make a one-wire, digital
connection from your audio card to your home theater receiver and enjoy
discrete multichannel sound from the game. However there will be a
continuous, slight delay, known as "latency", as the encoder is creating
and transmitting the bitstream, and of course the compression scheme
being used is "lossy" (i.e. not bit-accurate).
If you want to enjoy 3D audio in 3D enabled PC games in multichannel
surround sound with a Sound Blaster card, it is recommended that you
connect the analog outputs of the sound card directly to the analog
inputs of the receiver. This will require 3 cables for 5. surround
sound, one for front right and left, one for rear left and right, and
another one for front center and subwoofer. Though it requires more
cables than a real time encoder system, it will not have any latency
issues. When connecting PC audio to a home theater receiver, Creative's
latest sound cards such as Sound Blaster Audigy, Sound Blaster Audigy 2
are likely to provide higher quality audio than any Dolby Digital real
time encode system available for the PC today.

    Hi
I have got a problem with my audigy 2 platinum. I want to be able to plug in a guitar or other audio devices for that matter into the front bay. However i go into surround mixer to enable the device but can't find line in 2 or aux 2 listed anywhere. So no sound is heard. I have confirmed there is power to the front hub by checking the optical connection and confirming there is a red light. How can i get the inputs to work?. How do i enable them?.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Many Thanks

  • Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro - breakout box not work

I have an an external external breakoput box which was working fine in my old computer. I upgraded the mother board and cpu and installed the Audigy as before. The actual card works but the break out box doesn't light up. If I plug the external box firewire cable in to another firewire port on the computer the power LED lights but that's all. Any ideas anyone?

I am sorry to bump this topic but it is the same as my question and does not seem to have been answered.
I have a Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro - my old one which I decided to use in lieu of the on-board sound. I installed the latest drivers I could find SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0017.exe (after unistalling the existing ones)
The card itself works fine but the external interface box is as dead as a doornail. The power for the interface is supposed to come from the two connectors.
No lights no nothing - obviously I have checked the leads and the seating of the card itself. Playback is fine on MP3, midi, wave files etc. I have disabled the on-board sound in the BIOS of course.
Unfortunately the jacks on the back of the card are 1/8 in. outputs only and the external interface provides the inputs which I need for recording etc. They are 1/4in proper ones - guitar lead size which are much better.
I know it is an old card but I like it. The last time I used in in my old computer it was fine. Card/drivers show up in the device manager. I have installed this both on a Win 7 partition and a Win XP partition on my 2 HDDs with the same result. :mansad:
<font color="#0000FF">Any ideas appreciated! Is there something I am doing wrong? Thanks.

  • Does anyone know of a mini sterio with surround sound and optical input in Mac Mini form factor?

Does anyone know of a mini sterio with surround sound and optical input in Mac Mini form factor?
I use a Mini as the family media center and would like to have 5.1 or 7.1 sound for films but don't want a huge piece of eletronic equipment (I have one of those, but it isn't hooked up because it doesn't fit on the bookshelf). Years ago I used a PC and still use the Creative Audigy speaker system (Jimmy rigged to the Mini) that I ran from the PC. The Audigy PCI sound card obviously doesn't work on the Mini, so I just have two chanel plus sub. That has been fine since I switched to the Mini in 2007, but am updating to a new Mini in the summer and would like to upgrade my sound as well.
I also wouldn't be opposed to a USB soundcard that can drive the speakers. In fact, my wife would prefer smaller and less visible, ergo USB card hidden in the back.
    Suggestions?

Hello John, I figured it was a signal issue. All the speakers fire and the sound is great. I was running the speakers thru a Dell PC with a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro, THX Certified, 7.1 soundcard using a fiber optic from the Mac Pro to the Z906's, it worked great until the Dell died!!! When I bought the soundcard from Creative I also bought the GigaWorks S750, THX Certified, 700 watt, 7.1 speaker system, used the speakers for 11 years and then the woofer/amp said "I QUIT" Creative quit making the speaker system and the sound card. The satellite speakers from the Creative GigaWorks speaker system still sound great (rated at 78 watt each) and are a little better speaker than the one's that came with the Z906 and the wattage from the 906 is sufficient to drive the satellites without any distortion. Thank you for addressing my issue, you confirmed what I suspected all along, just needed to hear it from someone with the same setup.
One last question, I purchased a Diamond Multimedia USB Soundcard, can't use the fiber optic(not supported by Mac) but the green, tan and black RCA's plug in and produces adequetly. When you plug your 906's into the Mac Pro using the fiber optic how do you set your speaker configuration? When I plug into the mac pro with fiber optic the 'Audio Midi Setup' does not seem to see the 5.1 configuration. Any thoughts there?

  • Audigy 2 Platinum used to work fine, now it doesn'

    Hi,
I've been using my audigy 2 Platinum to record myself playing guitar for the past 2 years. I have my guitar amp hooked up (via send input on the back of the amp) to the Line In 2 (MIC IN 2) input. Lots of the time ill be up late recording stuff, so i turn my master volume down on the amp (so it doesn't come out of the amp) and just have it come out of my pc speakers. This time, the sound thats comming out of the speakers is just ugly noise. When i'm not playing anything it just hums. When i play something it just sounds like crap. I thought at first it might just be the speakers, so i recorded something and listend to it on different speakers, sounded exactly the same. So next thing i tried was a different guitar amp. Same thing. So i then opened up my tower to see if anything looked strange, everything looks fine. Next i uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers thinking that might help, sure enough, no help. I came here and read the FAQs and tried anything that sounded like it might help. Still havn't the same problem. I am completly baffled now. Is it possible i could have damaged it the last time i used it's If anyone has any ideas for me please let me know. I am running WinXP service pack 2. Thanks
Edit. I have also tried different cables.Message Edited by zedfour on 09-20-2005 02:24 AMMessage Edited by zedfour on 09-20-2005 07:25 PM

    Hi Louie,
Thanks for confirming that is the correct directory.  I agree cloning directories isn't the proper solution and would like to help identify what actually went wrong.  Perhaps a mapping was removed from CF Admin.  It's intriguing that expandPath('/secure') resolves to the proper directory but <cfobject name="getreqstatus" component="secure.common.getreqstatus"> throws an error that it can't find the getreqstatus.cfc that's located in secure's "common" subdirectory.
Just to be clear, is C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\bin\xxxx-Dev the website's root directory?  And is there also an Application.cfc file at C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\bin\xxxx-Dev\Application.cfc as well as the one at at C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\bin\xxxx-Dev\secure\Application.cfc?
Could you create a file named bar.cfm w/ this code?
    <cfscript>
      writeOutput(expandPath("/secure"));//should return "C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\bin\xxxx-Dev\secure"
      writeOutput("<br>" & expandPath("/secure/common"));//should return "C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\bin\xxxx-Dev\secure\common"
      writeOutput("<br>" & expandPath("/secure/common/getreqstatus.cfc"));//should return "C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\bin\xxxx-Dev\secure\common\getreqstatus.cfc"
      writeOutput("<br>" & fileExists(expandPath("/secure/common/getreqstatus.cfc")));//should return "YES"
      writeDump(var=new secure.common.getreqstatus(), format="text");//should return "[cfc1] component secure.common.getreqstatus"
    </cfscript>
Then could you place a copy of that file at C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\bin\xxxx-Dev\bar.cfm and C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\bin\xxxx-Dev\secure\bar.cfm, and then run both (so basically, www.yourdomain.com/bar.cfm and www.yourdomain.com/secure/bar.cfm) and see what is displayed?
Edit: Please rename or remove the cloned directories (i.e. the /secure/common within the calling routine's directory) before running the above.
    Thanks!,

  • Audigy 2 Platinum Front Panel Connecti

I recently began recording my band in our home studio. My mixing board is a Midas Venice 240 which has two balanced XLR outputs from the master bus. I am wondering what method I may use to connect this output to the /4" stereo input on the front panel of the Audigy 2 Platinum. If I just purchase a Y-adapter to combine the two channels into one XLR and then convert it to /4" TRS jack will both channels be preserved? Are there any sound quality issues that arise from this method of connection? I was hoping to get answers to these questions before wasting money buying unnecessary adapters.
    Thanks

The BEST way to do this is to go to radio shack and buy two (yes 2) of their?XLR to /4" Impedence Matching Transformers, AND?one (yes )?dual /4" female TS (tip-sleeve) to single /4" male TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) "Y" cable. Unless your mixer also has /4" main outs as well as the XLR... then you can just use the Y cable and skip the transformers. Or you can use a /8" Y cable with the transformers (and stereo /4 to stereo /8 adapter) and go into the card's line in jack on the actual card. Which is how I did it for a year or more untill i got a firewire recording interface (and it worked darn good too with my Soundcraft mixer and some good microphones). Either way,?you need the transformers for optimal results. The reason is the mixer's output impedence and level doesnt match that of the soundcard's input... mixer will likely overdri've the card, or the signal will sound weak or noisy.. The transformers?are cheap and are darn handy for loads of recording functions, and will provide the Audigy with exactly the type of signal it needs, properly transformed from the mixer. If you do this, you can record ALL of the mixer channels IN STEREO with all the panning, effects, and levels preserved. If you have multitracking software like Cubase or similar, you can even record an individual instrument (or even 2 at once, one panned left, one right... each assigned its own track in your software), come back on a new track (or pair of tracks), and record a different instrumet (or 2) and build a multitrack recording one performance at a time. PS:? you CANNOT just hardwire the mixer outputs and combine them into a single channel. A mixer is needed to properly combine?signals. Don't do it
!!! Have fun... and rock on.PSS:? make sure your overall cable is as short as possible. If you must run it for more than 6 feet then run it in XLR mode and convert it very close to the computer. The non XLR section of cable is an antenna for noise. The XLR section will be shielded against noise. Also, the transformers are kinda heavy so do not plug them into somthing and allow them to hang in the plug becasue the hanging weight will ruin your jack. Its best to run cables to the transformers, allowing them to lay on the floor... in a safe place where they wont get stomped on.

  • Audigy 2 Platinum eX line-in unavaila

I?m running Vista Business(x32) and using Audigy 2 Platinum eX.
When I go to the sound panel recording tab the line-in /mic, s/pdif-in, ?what you hear? are currently unavailable(they are enabled in the properties tab). The line-in 2 is working but its not. (don't hear any sound, the level bar doesn't indicate any input )
It use to work when I was using XP. I don't know if it ever worked when I did a clean install of Vista, I never needed to use it until yesterday.
I?ve did a complete uninstall and reinstalled the drivers 2 times already but still no luck. Now I cant access creative audio console doesn't work.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi there " bucktoothmummy". I just recieved this same problem today. Tryed to solve it via software updates and messing with IRQ stuff. None of that helped. I desperately tryed every line-in port there is and suddenly I heard loud static coming from the speakers.
What I found out was that the cable (the wide one) on the backpanel has been someway corrupted, and needed only a few twitches (pull it up and down). So the problem in my case was purely the low quality of the jack OR the cable. The ports them selves are just fine.
Email me if you wish to ask some more, hope this helps
