OPTICAL SURROUND SOUND - Soundblaster Audigy2ZsPlatinum --- Sony Surround sou

Hey, I read that post on optical hardware on sticky, but wanted to clarify as I didn't understand, as it seemed pretty unreasonable. I have a soundblaster Audigy 2ZS platinum, and a Sony DAV 5. home cinema kit.Surely a 5. signal can be output through the soundcards front optical, through the optical cable, to go into my cinema kit optical?- Looking to use it for surround sound pc gaming on my pc, and for running stereo music into the 5 speakers. If this isn't possible, are their any cracks, patches, plugins or software available to help with either of these demands?
Thanks, Alex

pjc,
Why you think its only a decoder? AC3Filter is capable of real-time ac3 *encoding* and has had this capability for awhile now - or has this functionality been removed recently?
It is commonly used by folks in the htpc subforum at avsforum.com by those who only have a S/PDIF connection to their home theater system but want to get multichannel audio for their WMVHD discs (most WMVHD do not have DD, they are multichannel WMV audio). AC3Filter encodes and lossy-compresses multichannel audio that is not DD/DTS and outputs the audio as multichannel DD over S/PDIF.
-----------------------Features of AC3 Filter .02a :
- Decoding of AC3/DTS/MPEG/2 Audio Layer I/II formats- Support of DVD, AVI/AC3, AVI/DTS, WAV/AC3 and WAV/DTS- Audio processing for any source- 6-channel decomposition of any source- Full information about audio track format- Support of SPDIF passthrough mode- Multi-channel audio output from all sources on SPDIF (on-the-fly AC3 encoding)<etc... snip>-----------------------

The 2009's didn't support sound on HDMI. That came in 2010. Are you sure it ever worked?

  • How can I import video and sound from my sony camcorder?

I have just bought the mac.  I'm struggling to import video AND sound from my Sony DCR-SR87 hard disk handycam camcorder.  From what I've read already, I ended up purchasing and downloading Quicktime MPEG2, and used the Utility MPEG Component Lion from downloaded MPEG Streaming 1.9.3b6 to enable video and sound to play on the computer directly from the camcorder.  The problem is that when I import these clips using iphoto (it pops up when I connect the camcorder), the sound does not accompany the video onto the computer.  I've hit something of a brick wall and would really appreciate any help.

    OK, according to
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3290
your camera is supported by iMovie 9.  Perhaps the question is better asked in the iMovie forum.  Would you like me to ask a moderator to move the thread?

  • Sound Output to Sony TV

After upgrading my iMac to OSX 10.8, I have lost the ability to output sound to the Sony TV.  It is not listed as an available device. How can I restore it?  Must I get a device driver from the Sony support site and install on the iMac?
    Thanks so much.

You can inform them via their Mini feedback page:

It seems audio and video issues are plagueing Mini's on every update/upgrade

that portion are gone and no one really knows how it works anymore.

  • How do I set up optical surround sound on my mac mini?

    Hi all,
I have a funny situation where my mac no longer recognises my receiver as a surround sound device through the digital optical connection.  It used to, it worked for about a year and a half, then suddenly stopped sending 5.1.  2.0 still worked (mp3s, avis), but trying to send 5.1 (mkvs) ended up with no sound whatsoever, on any app (VLC, Plex).
My equipment:  2009 Mac Mini running OS 10.6, Denon AVR-3082 amplifier, connected via optical link.
I tried a complete reinstall (as it had been a while), and I remember last time I set up 5.1 on my mac mini, it was some very involved process involving Perian and changing settings in the DVD player.  I saw the default interface now supported setting up speaker configuration directly through the Audio/Midi setup utility, however this doesn't seem to work for me.  When I select multi-channel audio output, all the options except "Stereo" are greyed out.  I am using "Digital out" as the output device (only choice), and have tried 44.1 and 48kHz.  My amplifier does not support HDMI audio input, which would be the simplest solution, so I am stuck using this optical solution.
On this clean install (not even any OS updates), 2.0 playback works (mp3 through VLC), and now 5.1 playback is mixed down to stereo by default.  I have seen a number of guides online saying to use Perian, edit config files and so on, but they are all several years old so I presume somerthing has changed since.
Does anyone know how to get 5.1 output from my mac mini to my receiver, in the way it used to work for years until last week?   Thanks in advance.

You can download mail for exchange to a pc or laptop then use nokia pc suite to install it.
The bug still exists were your email will be show up as being sent from Mail For Exchange and not you name
Anyone know a way around that?

  • ATV3 - I need to enable dolby digital for optical surround sound (netflix and home movies), but when I do this it stops audio coming through TV speakers

I have a cinema sound receiver connected to Apple TV via optical cable.  When I have dolby digital set to Auto it doesn't come through as dolby digital when watching movies on netflix and iTunes (home movies).
If I set Dolby Digital to ON it works as expected, but the sound stops working through normal TV speakers (via HDMI).  This is the same for netflix and home movies.
I tried 16 bit setting, but it made no difference.
Any advice on how I can get this working - meaning Dolby Digital always on for when I turn my surround sound on and sound through speakers for normal operation?
Obviously I can change the setting when needed, its just a pain.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello everyone,
here is the friendly and signed driver installation method to enable Dolby Digital Plus in your Encore internal speakers only. This is not an official driver, there is no control panel for Dolby Digital Plus or various sound effects, but tested and has much better and richer surround sound quality as before with factory driver. I guess, this driver tweak can work with any Bay Trail tablet also.
How can you upgrade Encore sound drivers:
    1. Download signed driver package and extract.
    2. Open Device Manager.
    3. Upgrade your Sound, Video and game controllers
    - Intel SST Audio Device
    - Realtek I2S Audio Codec
one by one with "Have a disk" method.
    4. Double click enabledolby.reg file and add to your registry.
    5. Restart, and enjoy better sound quality.
    Thanks.

  • Any way to stop rotating the surround sou

    hey all
im looking to buy one of those 3d head mounted displays with head tracking.
so if you turn around physically, you turn around in the game.
the problem is if you have physically turned 80 degrees, you are now facing the opposite direction to your 5. surround sound speaker setup.
is there any way of setting the audgy 2 zs so that it outputs surround sound BUT does not rotate to compensate for you turning in the game?
    so wat i mean is...
in a game, u hear a sound behing you... so u turn to face it (but since you're using the head mounted display with head tracking, you have also physically turned round and are now facing the back speakers)
currently, the soundcard would assume you're sitting at ur desk and send the sound to the front speakers.
is there any way to prevent that?
    cheers all!

The move of sound source is directly depending on the way the application you use is implemented. So it must be the application to have specific implementation to no rotating sound sources while you're moving your head.

  • Optical Surround not working in Macbook pro

I have a MBP 15" 2.33GHz core 2 duo, and I would like to use surround (DTS or Dolby 5.1) in logic pro.
I do not have a audio hardware, but I read here I can use the (digital) optical output to hear 5.1 output. Well, I plugged the optical out to a Pioneer AV receiver, but the receiver only plays at 96KHz 24bits stereo (THERE IS NOT A TRUE 5.1 OUTPUT).
I tried to change Leopard's audio options, and audio options from Logic Pro; all surround options are grayed out, only stereo is allowed in booth applications.
Do anybody knows what can I do to use 5.1 output?

    Hi again.
Nice website, except the wma files.
It is the right workflow to monitor what you mix before sending the material to the mastering studio. Although if you use Logic Pro 8 then you have compressor and can make this mastering by yourself (if you want to).
I try to say it easy: Without Light you can't paint, without suitable equipment you can't monitor an surround-mix. Only stereo is possible with your hardware. You can mix in surround in logic and listen in stereo. This is not optimal but the only chance to do this without buying an audio interface with minimum 6 outputs.

  • Best settings for surround sou

Hey everyone! What do you think are the best settings for a surround sound gaming setup with the X-Fi ExtremeMusic card? At the moment I have CMSS-3D on, with Stereo Surround and the Stereo Envelopment turned to Surround at the max. Is there any better way of having the settings for surround sound for gaming? Also, the 24bit Crystalizer is at 50%, is that ok? Thanks in advance for the replies!

I like using Stereo Surround to 50% and rock equalizer, with Crystalizer to the max

  • Optical out sounds aweful for voices

right now i have my card connected to an onkyo integra series receiver through the optical out and i plug in a headphone to the receiver. when i play a movie, background noises sound absolutely perfect. heck?i can hear a door squeek like it was right next to me and leaves russling in the wind. however, the voices seem to sound muted for some reason. i can barely understand anything. if i plug?the?headphone into the front panel?the problem goes away.
i'm assuming it's some sort of conversion from surround sound mode to stereo headphones issue. i've already set the sb control panel to headphones..

where is the "dolby digital li've" setting? looked everywhere in the creative audio control application..
    dwh wrote:
Do you have Dolby Digital Li've turned on while you're doing this? I'm guessing that might be a factor. It sounds to me a lot like you're only hearing the front left/right channels of a 5. signal, since my understanding is that the voices usually are mostly in the center channel.

  • Does Final Cut Pro X import AC3 sound from an SONY AVCHD  Camera?

    Hi
    I have a Sony AVCHD camera HDR-XR200.
I have been using Vegas Platinum in a PC. Surround sound 5.1 is supported.
I purchased FCPX for its "64 bit processing. better use of cores and threads, and 5.1 sound (which iMovie does not support).
However, when I use FCPX to import from the camera, i only get stereo  channels.
I have set the properties to 5.1 sound.
Can anyone shed light on why this does not work?
    Thanks
    Barry

Thanks Daniel for the reply and the URL.
I have sent the following to the Apple Feedback site.
"I have FCPX which claims to support AVCHD and Surround Sound AC3.
When I import toFCPX from my HDR-XR200 handicam, the audio is down mixed to stereo. I cannot get the 5.1 sound recorded in the camera to accompany the video.
Is this advertised feature missing, is this a bug or should I be doing something that is not immediately apparent to the application."
It seems that many of us who have great expectations for FCPX whould like some feedback from Apple.

  • No optical-out sound on MSI KT4-Ultra!!

Hi, I have recently set up a system based on the MSI KT4-Ultra board. I'm using an Athlon XP 1700+, a Radeon 9000 video card, and I've installed Windows 98.
Although all the drivers and audio applications which MSI provided installed fine, and 2-channel audio from the on-board sound chip works great both for music and for the 3-4 games I've installed so far, I can't seem to get the optical SPDIF port to work! I bought a cable and connected the computer to my Sony MD-player and attempted to copy my CDs onto MD. I go into the MSI control panel and check the box to enable SPDIF-out, removing the speaker cable from the analog line-out just for good measure. When I plug the optical cable into my MD it recognises digital input and prepares for recording. I press record on the MD and play on the computer's CD-player app, but the MD LED shows "no signal". I'm pretty sure both the MD recorder and cable are OK since I've used them to copy CDs from a Kenwood portable CD-player quite recently, so it must be the MB that's giving me problems. Indeed, when I've stopped playback in the CD-player app and went back into the audio control panel, I found that the SPDIF box had been unchecked of its own accord. I've tried this several times, and I've unplugged the S-bracket and reinstalled it all over again just to make sure it was plugged in properly, and I still get the same problem. All audio works fine except optical out! Haven't got a coaxial cable or recorder so I can't check if the coaxial port is equally buggered or if it's just the optical, but I'm getting really annoyed here: this was the one feature I liked best about this board and the only one which isn't working! Any ideas, anyone?

dude, i think i can get u ur signal, but currently i can only get silent recordings, u may have better luck.
on the minidisc, there should be a switch or button that will toggle synchronised recording on and off, turning it off should get u a signal, but it wont be in sync wiv the cd, ie u cant trust it to form track gaps.
hope that helps, done flame me if it dont, if i manage to get substance to my recording, i will send u the info just in case.
    take it easy

  • Help with optical out on soundblaster live external 24-

Currently trying to connect a soundblaster li've external 24 bit box to a harmon-kardon avr 0 amplifier. We can get sound via the analog jacks but can not get any sound from the optical port. Is there a setting on the computer or the amp that makes it so it works? also the hardware mute button mutes but does not unmute. the wheel also continuously scrolls without stopping.

Anyone with an insight with WHY it was made with USB .
