Optical wheel mouse (USB) on Solaris 8

After following the instruction given in the "Solaris for Intel X86 FAQ" to install XFree86 4.0.2, my Microsoft WheelMouse Optical (on a USB port) doesn't work at all. Furthermore, after adding the CDE fonts in "/usr/openwin/lib/fonts/F3bitmaps/" to XF86Config, the fonts that appear on the CDE login screen look like those bitmap figures that are stretched like craps. What should I do to make my mouse work and how can I configure the CDE so that I see the original fonts that originally comes with SUN? Please advice.

I have the same problem with my mouse. First I installed Solaris 8 - the mouse worked just fine. Then I installed Xfree86 drivers and after reconfiguring and rebooting my system my mouse doesn't work at all. I use XF86Config utility to configure the new X server. At the beginning it asks you about your mouse, so I choose "Microsoft compatible" or "Microsoft IntelliMouse" - it doesn't work. It also asks to point to the mouse driver but I'm not sure what to choose so I use the default /dev/mouse. Please advise.

  • Logitech wired optical wheel mouse becomes unresponsive, light blinks

Does anybody have any thoughts on what could be going on? I've noticed that sometimes my wireless mouse will begin blinking its optical light on and off every second or so, forcing me to remove the usb cord and plug it back in to reinitialize the driver.

Yes, I should have mentioned I've already tried that and it makes no difference.

  • Portege R500 and Toshiba Optical Tilt-Wheel Mouse

    Hello,
I have a problem with my Portege R500 combined with my Toshiba Optical Tilt-Wheel Mouse. I use Win XP Pro SP2.
During notebook usage the mouse will be disconnected. If I plug out the mouse and plug in another USB port, I can use the mouse for a while, but it halts not longer.
Later comes the same problem, but a reconnect to another USB port doesnt work.
I use the original driver of Microsoft win xp.
    Bye hoody

Did you receive the special XP driver together with this mouse?
    If yes then install it.
But from my knowledge its common USB mouse which should use a plugn play device
So possibly you should check the USB settings.
Go to the device manger and open the USB bus controller tree
There you should mark the single USB root hubs and should select properties.
In the power management tab disable the function Allow the computer to turn off this device
Furthermore I recommend updating the XP to the latest state; I mean all hotfixes and patches should be installed!!
    Good luck

  • TA48312 USB Slim Keyboard and Optical Game Mouse Combo

My mouse will never work when I turn on my iMac (Lion)... Does anyone know what might be the problem? The keyboard (Macally Slim Keyboard and Optical Gaming Mouse I just purchased when my Mac keyboard got a drop of water on two keys and stopped working all togetherl) I just can't seem to find out why the mouse won't work. Thankfully I have my Mac Mouse that will plug in and then I can unplug it and plug in the new mouse, but what a hassle. I have looked on the Macally site and the Mac software site and just can't find any answers.
    Anyone?? HELP???!!!

Try doing 2-3 SMC and PRAM resets back to back, instructions can be found by clicking and carefully following the directions in Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets

  • Mouse/USB Issue...

I have a 1.5 year old iMac and in the last month or so I have noticed that I will have a pop-up on my screen that says something to the affect of "The device is currently using too much power and will be disconnected from the USB port" and then my mouse will stop working. The light on the mouse will still be on and eventually the power to the mouse comes back. This mouse is the one that came with the system and plugs into the back. I am ok with getting a new one but want to know if this may be a bigger issue than the mouse. Any ideas? THANK YOU!

I prefer mice that are simple and sturdy, so I like Microsoft's basic optical mouse designs. The one I currently use is this one
    [Microsoft Optical Mouse (Blue)|http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-K81-00004-Optical-Mouse-Blue/dp/B000068M P2/ref=sr11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1242970543&sr=8-1]
Before that one, I used one like this (it was still working but I wore out the pads that reduce friction)
    [Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical|http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-D66-00029-Wheel-Mouse-Optical/dp/B00006 B7HB/ref=dpcp_ob_e_title1?ie=UTF8&qid=1242970543&sr=8-1]
(Quite an old design, but it works.)
As a side benefit, they are also pretty cheap (as in price tag not quality). They work fine using Apple's generic USB mouse driver, so you do not need to install Microsoft's mouse driver. You can install Microsoft's mouse driver to get some more functions, but I tend to avoid Microsoft software on my Mac whenever possible; with only two buttons and a scroll wheel, there's not much more a special driver will provide.

  • How can I get back the two button smooth scroll with Logitec optical marble mouse since Adobe Acrobat or FireFox updates on 10/26/2010 made it quit?

Oct 25, 26 or 27 both Adobe Acrobat and Mozilla Firefox alerted me they had updates to install. Since I trust them both I installed them. However, since then my optical marble mouse from Logitech acted strangely different. The cursor did not move as usual. It didn't respond right. I thought it might have needed the dust wiped out, so I did that. It still acted sluggish when I tried to move it, it was as though it was "spinning its wheels" not going anywhere. I went to the Control Panel clicked on Mouse, and proceeded to look at the settings and set them to default. I then tried to use the universal scroll by clicking the two big buttons which showed a circle with cross hair arrows as usual. When the marble was moved forward or backward, the scroll had always been smooth allowing one to read the screen evenly and without holding any button down. Now it was jerky. Is this a problem from the last update? My version of Firefox is 3.6.12
    Thank you

I am happy to see another person is having this jerky scroll situation with the latest update to Firefox on October 27. I did check my I.E browser and '''THAT BROWSER''' still does the nice smooth scroll....let's get 'er fixed Mozilla! I know you can!

Interestingly enough, the same thing happens in Windows on my U46E - the Synaptics driver recognizes the touchpad only as a PS/2 mouse and two-finger scroll won't work.
Edit: The elantech module you posted fixes the problem on the U46E, too. Thanks! Now to fix it for Windows...

  • [Solved] Touchpad recognized as Logitech Wheel Mouse

I am trying to get my touchpad working on an Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4830T-6642 but the touchpad is being recognized as a "Logitech Wheel Mouse".
I am unsure if the laptop is using an Elantech or Synaptics touchpad as it only seems to see the touchpad as a regular pointer. I have attached output that I think could be relevant. Let me know if anything else would be helpful.

I have found a kernel patch at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27442 that is suppose to fix the problem. Can anyone help guide me on patching the Arch kernel? I have installed ABS and created a build directory. Need some help with the pkgbuild though.

  • Touchpad detected as ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse

I have an Asus laptop (not an eee pc), and my touchpad is detected incorrectly.  It thinks it is a "ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse."  I have tried to use the synaptics driver by configuring /etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">

    <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton2" type="string">2</merge>
    <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton3" type="string">3</merge>

but this causes the touchpad to stop working entirely.  Here is the relevant section of my Xorg.0.log

Is there some way I can let my system know that this is indeed a touchpad so I can configure it properly?

I can't really gather anything useful from dmesg.  Here's the possibly relevant output:

  • Touchpad recognized as PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse

    Hi,
So far I have been unable to get to work the touchpad in my ASUS R510L (or X550LD). The touchpad is recognized as a mouse, the output of xinput list is:

Following the wiki, first I installed the psmouse-alps-driver from the AUR, it didn't worked. Then I tried the psmouse-elantech and it also didn't work.
I also tried the module psmouse-alpsv7-driver by he1per (https://github.com/he1per/psmouse-dkms-alpsv7) but didn't help. Of course I tried the modules having the previous one uninstalled and the default psmouse module reloaded. The touchpad is always recognized as a mouse (Either PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse, or Ps/2 Generic Mouse or Elantech mouse).
I keep getting this error constantly in dmesg, but I think it is a consequence rather than the source of the error:
psmouse serio4: Failed to enable mouse on isa0060/serio4
So I keep the module psmouse unloaded. I'm using the kernel 3.14.2-1. Of course the synaptic driver never gets to load, I tried to forced it in the Xorg configuration but it didn't help.
Running hwinfo ith the psmouse module loaded gives:
    $ hwinfo

Does anyone know what else can I try?
    Thanks in advance!

Hi, I just found this Launchpad bug:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/1325881
Is for Ubuntu 14.04, but seems to be the same bug I've got. It also affects other Asus models. So far I haven't found the problem.

  • Will a normal optical wireless mouse works with a MacBook?

    Hi again
Just wondering if a USB optical wireless mouse bought for a PC will work with the MacBook? Just that I hate using touchpads all the time...
    Thanks!
    --gal--
    PC!

The v270 is overpriced, but BTMM that costs twice the price is not? That's some wierd logic there - LOL!
In any case, find a mouse that you like that feels comfortable in your hand at a price that you are willing to pay.
I like both the Logitech and BTMM for what that's worth. I do like the MM better, but YMMV.

  • 5-button optical comfort mouse.

    Hi,
I have just purchased a new 5-button optical comfort mouse. After a few problems, I managed to download and install the drivers from the HP website. But when I open the control panel it says 'No mouse has been detected'.
The mouse is plugged in to the usb port, and the cursor moves around the screen when I move the mouse, and the scrollwheel works, but I want to customise the buttons.
How can I get the control panel to detect the new mouse?.
    Thanks

This error is due to Microsoft Installer issue. Update microsoft installer from microsoft.com and that should fix the issue.
    Wish you luck,
    Karthik

  • Hp 2.4 ghz wireless optical mobile mouse - back and forward not working

    Hello everyone,
I bought an HP 2.4 ghz wireless optical mobile mouse, installed the drivers and sw in the CD that came with it, but I can't get the back/forward functions on the center wheel to work (neither on Chrome nor Windows Explorer).
    My OS is Windows 7 Enterprise + SP1 (64-bit).
Could it be a driver/OS issue? Or should it work out of the box and is probably a hardware issue?
    I have:
    - uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers on the CD;
    - uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers on the HP webpage;
    - uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers on the HP webpage and then the ones on the CD (which i think made some sort of upgrade on the HP Mouse Suite).
What should I do to get back/forward to work?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Regards
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Just figured out the left/right arrows on the wheel are for horizontal scrolling only, and not back/forward.
Does HP plan to support the back/forward function in this mouse model? The hardware is there, it's just a matter of drivers.
The issue was solved via remapping the mouse keys with not-HP software. This is something a standard user would probably have trouble doing.
This is an entry level product, but 99% of the mouses I've seen that have center wheel left/right capabilities can be configurated to back/forward.

  • Optical Bluetooth Mouse will not Pair in Snow Leopard 10.6.1 on MBP5,5

I have this mouse, with full batteries, just now tested and working on Windows XP with another laptop, and with an older MacBook Pro running 10.5. I can see this device in the Bluetooth set-up, and when I click Continue, the window shows a connection established, then another connection, and then an error that the device could not be paired. I tried every type of Password Options, including setting as 0000 and 1234. I have no other Bluetooth devices to test with either.
IOGEAR - GME225B - Bluetooth Optical Mini Mouse
I followed the instructions from other posts, but still cannot pair the mouse.
    -Deleted Macintosh HD>library>preferences>com.apple.bluetooth.plist
-Reset PRAM with Command-Option-P-R keys at boot
-Installed Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 for Snow Leopard
Nothing works, but I know for sure that this mouse does work, and that it has worked on previous versions of OSX and other MacBooks.

I have the same issue. Same mouse. Its definitely snow leopard. I have 2 macbooks that use that mouse that were upgraded to snow leopard from leopard. On one of them I had deleted the mouse and encoutered the same errors trying to add it - it worked on my other machine. But then as a test (bad idea) I deleted it off the other machine and was also unable to recreate the connection thereby narrowing the issue to snow leopard. I have tried pretty much everything for hours. Deleting pllist file, smc reset, nvram etc... I think I have to wipe off the machine and install leopard again and start from there
