Optimal settings for AP1242AG with roaming

Hello everybody, I need some advice on the best settings for my AP1242AG wireless radios.  I am using 2.4Ghz and not 5.  They are not lightweight and therefore I do not have a WLC.  I have only hooked up the right (primary) antenna on them.  I have 6 radios in an outdoor deployment, they have line of sight and are only about 500 feet away from each other so signal should not be an issue.  I have already established communication between two of the units successfully as a test so I am mostly there.
However, I need help with the role in radio settings.  3 of the radios are mounted throughout a jobsite on poles so they are my main AP's.  The other 3 radios are in motorhomes that move around inside of the yard from time to time.  Therefore, this is similar to a multipoint to multipoint bridge configuration. Each of the 3 main units on the poles have a connection back to the main LAN and I am simply trying to get the LAN connectivity into each of the three motorhomes (so I don't believe I need to use any of the repeater options and this is similar to a bridge).   I don't know the best role in radio selection for this configuration that will allow everything to work together the best.  I also need the 3 remote radios to roam from one pole to the next as needed for strongest signal.
Also, if anybody has additional advice on other settings I may want to change given my setup to help optimize, I would appreciate it.  I am obviously new to these units.
Can somebody please help with this?  Thanks in advance!

APs on poles : station-role root
APs on motorhomes : station-role workgroup-bridge
The workgroup bridge role allows to act as client, provide connectivity to whatever is connected on the wired interface of the WGB and also to roam.
500 feet is a lot for 1242 with omnidirectionnal antennas (I suppose this is what you have since you're roaming around). I hope you tested it :-)

  • New stream, low upload rate... Optimal Settings for streaming games?

I've been fiddling around with FMLE for the past few days/weeks and trying to find the best quality to stream quality games such as Bad Comapny 2, Starcraft 2, Mass Effect 2, etc
I am able to play games at max settings, but when I do the stream will lag so I choose to make the settings low enough so I can stream.
The only probably right now is they seem quite blurry/pixelated - which is probably due to my upload rate of 0.8mbps from SpeedTest.net1
    My specs are:
Resolution of 1680x1050 (Most of my games like Bad Company 2 are played at 1280x720 windowed mode)
    i5-2500K
    GTX 560 Ti
    12GB Ram
    1TB Hard Disk Space
    Windows 7 64bit
Upload rate of 0.8mbps (and 5.0mbps download incase it is needed)
http://www.justin.tv/mrshotzzzz/videos - Bad Company 2 at the moment... There seems to be a LOT of blurryness, but it seems quite smooth.
http://www.twitch.tv/mrshotzzzz/b/293073526?id=293073526&channel=mrshotzzzz - This is my latest... (skip to 1:25 where I configure it to be good)
When I fullscreen it, around the edges mainly, I see it is pixleted.
I use 1280x720 input, and 640x360 output with 800kbps. Is it possible to make it better?
Would an output of 640x360 with a bitrate of 650kbps be better?
Would an output of 854x480 be better?
Could changing my input size to 1920x1080 make my quality better?
tl;dr What is the optimal settings for a good specced computer, but with a low upload rate (0.8mbps)?

    Hi,
In iChat 3 or iChat 4 setting System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming to 1.5Mbps is quite important.
In Tiger (10.4.x) the Automatic Setting here is read as Zero by iChat and can cause issues even when the Speed is high enough.
In Leopard for iChat 4 this Automatic setting is read as 384k by iChat (although this is the Minimum for a 4 way Video chat it may still cap your Internet Speed).
If you have to change this iChat will need a restart if open.
The real controlling factor is the Upload speed the Internet Connection speed has.
There is one other place to help with the Bandwidth/Internet Connection speed.
This is in iChat menu > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit drop down.
This can be changed during A/V chat and changes to the Bit rate iChat is using is shown in the Connection Doctor (Video Menu).
This is best used when Really Fast Buddies (Processors and Internet Speeds) can tend to "Over-run" lesser speeded Buddies. It can also help if your ISP manages the Bandwidth/Internet Connection speed making it run slower or faster at different times of the day (Also look at Fair Usage Policies).
There is no independent way to reduce the Frame rate that would have a direct effect on this.
There are other apps that do use less demanding picture quality that in turn effects the Frame rate which can effect the Bandwidth needed/Used
    See this link http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/page5.html#_other
Scroll to numbers 5 through 8 for Apps, 9 through 12 for Web Browser options.
    13 is a PC app.
14 & 15 works in Video only to MSN Buddies.
The list does not have a reference to the Yahoo Beta 3 for Mac

  • Optimal Settings for FCP6 on MacBook Pro?

Up until a week ago, I've worked mostly on a Mac Pro with Final Cut Studio 2. I've been fortunate enough to get a MacBook Pro (2.6Ghz) also outfitted with FCS2 and I'm wondering if there is such a thing as "optimal settings" for running FCS2 on the portable notebook.
I'm referring to such things as memory and cache settings and Playback control, etc. I would like the MBP to run FCS as efficiently as possible. I know I won't get the same power-crunching ability as the Mac Pro but does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks for any help.

We have a 2.4Ghz MBP with the 256 MB video card.
We have 4 GBs of RAM, which you should consider.
However, without indicating what codec and cam you will be using, there isn't much more to say.
If you are working with a DV or HDV camcorder, for example, use an ExpressCard 34 FW or eSATA card and an external HDD for media.
That creates independent FW buses if you go that route or a FW bus and a eSATA HDD connection.

  • Saving Settings for use with Export using Quicktime Conversion

    Dear All,
Is it possible to save a set of settings for use with the Export using Quicktime Conversion feature? The reason I ask is that we have to export a quicktime of every tv commercial we make (using the same settings) and it would be great if "one click" could deliver the export settings we need.
    All the best, Sean

Well, you can create a droplet from Compressor that would do what you'd like...
Open compressor and in the Help menu, Select the user manual. Navigate to page 315.

    Hello Jemmi,
    a lot of questions
    Here some answers:
    1. You do not have to install the add-on to CRM. It is a add-on to outlook. Just start the setup.exe you downloaded from the marketplace and select MS-Outlook and your language.
    2. In CRM70 customizing search for "client profile" - here you will be able to customize for different businessroles different GWI settings. The settings will be synchronised to the client. You will not need to do settings on the client.
    3. Biderectional is theoretically possible. We only use CRM to Outlook. If you do it the other way round you have to think about obligatory fields in CRM and where do you get the account ID from and and and. CRM to Outlook is simple.
    4. Accounts and Products i guess no in standard. But contact persons is possible, appointsments and tasks are also possible.
    5. No answer, we do not use this.
    I hope this helps.
    Good luck.
    Kind regards

  • Optimal settings for video extraction

What are the optimal settings in final cut pro 6.0 in order to take a finished project from my computer and put it on an external drive for the purpose of transferring this file to a beta tape? Also what are the optimal settings in order to take this same project file and burn it to a DVD? I want to get the best quality video as possible as this video will be played on TV.

What are your settings now? Who will be handling the output? They are the ones to ask the question on output format for layback to betasp. I'd say Uncompressed 8-bit or ProRes (standard def)... but this is dependent on the format you are working with now too.
As for DVD...just export a QT movie (self contained, sequence settings...or REFERENCE, uncheck the self contained box) and use the DVD preset in Compressor, then send to DVD SP...or take the QT into DVD SP and have it do the encode.

  • DVD Studio Pro:  Optimal Settings for 16:9 SDV Streaming?

    Hi folks!
Gotta question about video streaming rates and DVD authoring.
I understand, mainly from reading the forums, that jacking up the streaming bit rate for video makes a nicer quality image on the DVD, but it does so at the cost of compatibility with lower end or older DVD players. Understood.
However, I am a beginner so I have no idea what streaming rate to use (I think Apple suggests about 6).  It's no good testing with my DVD player because I have a BlueRay player that seems to work with 7 (mbps?) just fine.
My project is being shot at 16:9 Standard DV format and edited in a 24p timeline.  I'm looking to make a native 24p DVD at 16:9, SDV, non interlaced.
Does anyone have an "optimal" or "preferred" bit rate for streaming with this kind of format?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Mike,
Definitely planning on DVD5 for the compatibility reason you mentioned and also because they are a heck of a lot cheaper to work with.
So, I did a burn of a 45 minute video, but set the average bit rate to 3.2 (gave me 130 minutes on DVD5) and I'm plenty happy with the resolution, and output file for video was 1.2GB or so. (I only had audio on select shots) It's mainly the other number, the max bit rate, that I'm not sure what to set it to.
Should I go for 8 for the max bit rate, or go more conservative at 7 for compatibility?  Lower?
    Let's put it this way:
This is for my "demo reel" and it has to look good, but more importantly it absolutely has to work with an average DVD player.  I'm mainly concerned about max number over quality (average) number because I don't want to send a disc to someone (for business purposes) and then have it not play.   If it doesn't play, I'm not only going to look like an ***, but if I only have one shot to get some financial backing for a project... well you get the picture.
Thanks again, (both of you guys)!
PS: I won't hold anyone but myself accountable, so no worries, I just want to get a feel for what you would be "comfortable" with that type of situation.

  • Lazy Nezumi - settings for use with CC

I am finding it hard to find my way round way this software - the incomprehensible (to me) manual doesn't help - and I'd be grateful for a steer on what are good default settings for smoothing curves in freehand drawing.  None of the settings seem to help or have a simple and useful effect for freehand work.
Can I assume that it only works with the brush tool and not with other tools like the Art History Brush?
I know Trevor D has mentioned this software a couple of times.
    Thanks.

David, you had me wondering there.  I don't think I have ever used the Art History brush.  I did try though, and initially thought LNP did not work with that tool, but with high settings I could see that it does.
For smooth lines use the Massive Smooth preset with mode set to Moving Average.  The default values are good for the Brush tool, but seem to work better with much higher 'Amount' setting for the Art History brush.  But I have no experience with the Art history brush, and don't even have a clear idea how it works.
Lazy Mouse with the Pulled string mode, are used for smooth lines with abrupt changes of direction.  You have to stop and move the cursor back a touch to take the tension out of the pulled string. Then move in the new direction and when the pulled string becomes taut the line will follow the cursor again.
Actually, the animated gifs on the site explain it better than my words

I don't think that Guilaume ever sleeps.  He has never taken more than 30 minutes to reply to an email, even on Christmas day!  He is super helpful, and tends to respond immediately if you use the LNP Chat facility.
If you check out the Feedback page, you'll find lots of LNP users that do 'similar' work to you, although I have to say none that were quite like your beautiful painterly type artworks.  You'll possibly recognize some of the names, and maybe swap some ideas with them.  It's quite a little community, but there isn't a forum unfortunately.
I am not sure how relevant they will be to your work, but do check out the Constraint presets.  For line drawing I find they are really useful.

  • Optimal settings for encoding HDV 1080i footage to SD dvd

I have footage recorded from an HDV camcorder and edited in FCP 1080i 60. It is fast moving sports footage shot with a high shutter speed the total running time is 40 min. I have encoded it to DVD by taking the HDV 16:9 FCP sequence dropping it to a 4by3 DV sequence to get the window box 4by3 aspect ratio and exporting this sequence as an mov. This mov was then encoded with compressor dvd 90 min best settings
I was not able to find a quick way to do the aspect ratio change in Compressor 3. Please let me know optimal settings.
The big problem however is how compressor has dealt with the high speed moving footage. Played from the DVD on a sd tv the motion is terrible. It looks like the interlacing is all off and the image doubled up. The slow mo footage used in the piece is fine.
What are the optimal settings to smooth out the motion?

  • Optimal settings for h.264

Does anyone have any recommended optimal setting for encoding DV footage to h.264 at full 720x480 resolution? I need setting that will provide quality with the smallest file size. Thanks.

Does anyone have any recommended optimal setting for encoding DV footage to h.264 at full 720x480 resolution? I need setting that will provide quality with the smallest file size. You can try the "Movie to iPod" conversion export. This will produce a 640 x 480 (the "square" pixel representation of your 720 x 480 DV "rectangular" pixel movie) in the H.264 "LC" profile at roughly 12+ MBs per minute (i.e., roughly 1630 Kbps). If lower data rates are required and the movie does not need to be iPod compatible, you can use the H.264 "Main" profile in either the "Movie to H.264" or "Movie to MPEG-4" manual export options to limit the data rate to as low a level as you can tolerate in terms of playback "quality."

  • Optimal settings for export from 1080p camcorder - Canon HF100

I just bought an HF100 camcorder. When I make projects with iMovie what are best export settings for 1080p projects? What about for 480p for a DVD. I tried to export 1080p video and it looks grainy. I'm not sure if this is the fault of the camera or iMovie?
Also, when I play clips inside imovie the playback is choppy. Is there anyway to fix this?

I'm using a HF10, and I don't think iMovie '08 properly detects that 1080p recordings from these camcorders are progressive scan, but rather treats then like 1080i clips. I find I get better results by recording in the default 1080i if there's sideways motion in the video. That doesn't really surprise me - according to the AVCHD consortium website, there's no such thing as 1080p in AVCHD (see http://www.avchd-info.org/format/index.html).
DVDs are always interlaced anyway, so for best results you want to start with 1080i and not 1080p. I export at 960x540i, using the Quicktime export option selecting "High" quality mode. The default "Large" sharing option in iMovie uses a bitrate that I find too low for getting the best quality.
When you export at 1080p, what is your bitrate set to? That makes a lot of difference.
Finally, 1080p playback is very hard work for your computer. Try quitting other applications before playing back your video to get a smooth experience. Or export at 540p.
