Optimal Size of Pictures for each format?

I know there is no one answer for this, but I'm trying to create Photoshop templates for myself to make using images with Muse easier to deal with while working with clients. If they are going to be changing out photos with in-browser editing, it would be good to have a specific size that fits well for the full width of each format. Ideally they could do this sizing themselves. Maybe there is a cheap program for them to re-size pics.
I'm wondering what others are doing for standard (not retina) websites as far as optimum sizes for each format for screen width photos. Love the idea that I can get 3 completely different looks! Worth the work.

Thanks. That solves my problem of clients being able to re-size. However, I would love to hear ideas about sizes for full screen width pics for the three formats. Ex: Should I have a photo at 2000 pixels for a desktop? Should I match the screen resolution? Have I missed some documentation that goes over this? If I guess too large, loading time is increase. Too small and resolution suffers. I would love for Muse admin to comment on this. I could be the only idiot that is missing the obvious. If so, let me know.

  • Different pictures for each mailbox

Hey there. I have several e-mail accounts and I'd like to use a different outgoing picture for each account. Anybody know how to do that?
I have one, but I don't want to use that one for all mail boxes.
    Thanks!

This photo is your "Me" picture for your contact information in the Address Book. This is no different than selecting a photo for a contact in your Address Book. When receiving a message with the Mail application from a contact with a photo you chose for that contact in the Address Book, your chosen photo for that contact will appear in the message header regardless if the sender is also a Mail.app user and has chosen their own photo for their contact information in their Address Book.
If a recipient of your messages is also a Mail.app user and has chosen a photo for your contact information in their Address Book, their chosen photo for you will appear in the message header when receiving a message from you, not your chosen photo.
If the recipient is a Windows Outlook or Outlook Express user, your chosen photo does not appear either since it isn't sent with your messages.

  • Pictures for iPod songs

After haveing my iPod for about 6 months, i finally put a album picture for each of my 2000 songs. Unfortuanlly, when i added one song off a cd, that didnt have a album cover pic, all of the others pictures went away, even off the songs i downloaded off itunes. WHY?!?

Hi there! In order to be able to see your cover art, as it's called, you must put the pictures into all the songs manually. Even if all the cover arts appear on every song, you must still put it in manually. in iTunes, if you start playing the song, the box at the bottom left hand corner will show that you have to drag artwork into that box. You have to do this to every song for it to appear. After all that is done, it should sync beautifully to your iPod.

I need to save some pictures from iPhoto to a SDHC photo card for a digital frame and was wondering if there is a way to shrink or compress file size for each picture as I have already cropped the pictures? Thank you

Yes, you do this when you export the images from the Library.
    File -> Export
in the Size section, you don't need images larger than the frame size, so you can specify that and in the Jpeg Quality you can select the amount of compression used.

  • Choosing an optimal size ( file size, MB's,tiff or jpg) for iphoto

I apologize to Old toad and others who have responded. OT seems to be the only one who answers so much. He deserves a standing ovation which i am giving him now.
    But:
Lets start at the beginning. I am a semi-pro (i do not make my living on my photography) who never used Iphoto but must now because i wish to create a 100 page book.
I have files mostly tiffs that range from 17.2 to 60 MBs in size ( 3008-5000 /2000-3000 dpi ). I see that Iphoto ad nauseum creates a thumbnail, and a copy of the original photo for each photo. This is not HD friendly.
How big in pixel size/file size in MB's should the files be so that i do not use so much HD space? Should i just go ahead and drag the files that i have and allow for 5-10 GB of photos to accumulate on my HD? I realize i do not need
my files so big and that is why i ask here in the forums.
I realize most of my files are non compressed tiffs,i.e. big in file size.
What say you? Please be specific. Mention a specific file
    size in MB's please
    thanks

    Glen:
I've created several books. They were with cameras that produced 1600 x 1200 pixel image files which will give a maximum 300 dpi size of 5.3 x 4 inches. All of my books have been the Storybook theme so the one photo per page is not a full page and I've never run into the warning for low resolution. Possiblly a full 8.5 x 11 photo page would have given me a warning. For the intended use of the books I found them to be very good. My Canon camera's color profile is very close to the Apple recommended sRGB so I've calibrated my monitor with the sRGB profile. Any edits I do with Photoshop CS3 embed the sRGB profile in the resulting file.
My current camera gives me 2272 x 2704 images. Haven't ordered a book since I've started using it but am in the process of creating one right now.
It's not the MB size of the file that's important but the number of pixels in the image. For a full page photos, an image size of 3300 x 2250 would meet the optimal 300 dpi of the printing by Apple's suppliers. However, I have no doubt that my current camera's files would produce a good print at that size. That is if I got a good sharp image to start with.
So a 3300 x 2250 pixel jpg would provide just as good a print as the same sized tiff. Just keep as many pixels in the image as you can. For those good photographers that can do their cropping when they take the image that will maximize the files pixels for printing. I don't have the eye for that. But then my photos are of rapidly changing family situations and I don't have time top compose the picture.
I asked Apple about the printing and quality of materials used in the books and here's their replay:
I contacted Apple and asked for information that I could pass on. Here's the reply I received from Apple:
"Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.
I understand that you would like to know the printing process that is used and the color mode the files should be in, so you can better advise users in the iPhoto forum.
iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with RGB color space are recommended for best results.
While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.

Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
    BOOKS
All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
    Hardcovers Books
The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
    Softcover Books
The softcover books come in three sizes:
    - Large 8.5 x 11 inches
    - Medium 6 x 8 inches
    - Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
    CARDS
All cards are printed on McCoy 120# Silk Cover paper stock. The postcards measure 4 x 6 inches, and the greeting cards measure 5 x 7inches.
    CALENDARS
All calendars measure 8 x 10 inches and are printed on McCoy 100# Silk Cover paper stock.
To ensure the best print quality, we have chosen to use Kodak NexPress technology. The press uses a dry toner, which is fused to the surface of the paper. Please see NexPress' site for more information:

I hope you find this information helpful in answering questions on the iPhoto forum."
As Apple stated, I hope this information is helpful.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Different formats for each line in enums & rings?

I don't know if this one is possible but I can't figure it out.
Can you make an enum or ring control have a different format for each selection?
    E.G.:
    Selection 1 [default]
    Selection 2 [test mode]
    Selection 3 [optional]
    Selection 4 [optional]
I've tried the formatting options and property nodes, no luck.  Maybe there are possibilities with control customizing I'm not thinking of???

    Using LabVIEW: 7.1.1, 8.5.1 & 2013

    Hi K.
I don't think it's possible to have those text properties vary in a text-ring, but you might be able to accomplish your goal using a pict-ring - using images of formatted text.  In the example (attached) Paint was used to create the pictures then import them into the pict-ring.  Here Unclebump shows how to use "Draw Text at Point.vi" to create formatted text in a picture control, though, I have no idea how to copy such pictures out of the pictures control!
    Cheers!

  • Store the Printing Metadata for each picture

    2) Can Lightroom store print metadata (font size/color, scaling factor) for each picture and for each virtual copy the way it already stores Vibrance, virtual copies, tone curves, etc. information?
Suppose Photo1 and Photo2 have widely different title lengths (6 letters and 20 letters, respectively). Then I print Photo1 then Photo2 then Photo1 again.
Right now I have to retype the title for Photo1 and re-scale the title letters for Photo1 to make them look the same size as the first time printing Photo1, even though I printed Photo1 already.
I print almost all of my photos with titles and often cannot know which photo I'll print next. This is a real time-waster and not having to do this each time would be a huge timesaver!
    Thanks!
    Robert

    Thanks, Ian.
That is do-able for a small number of pictures but I title hundreds of pictures and it would be much better since LR has a nice database to automatically store that metadata.
An analogy in the Develop module is that users don't have to fill in a template to hold all their Develop metadata from session to session e.g., Recovery = 50, Fill = 10, Vibrance = 30, etc. because that would make LR's workflow far too cumbersome for 100s or 1000s of pictures. The same should be true for LR saving Print metadata.
    Thanks again,
    Robert

Definitely that would be a great approach to share the knowledge; but right now my notes are still in the shape of notes only; i have'nt tested them. I simply read forum and asktom and whenever i found good lines i copy and paste them and whenever i found the similar question in the forum i paste / repharase there in my own language and understanding (because till then i have tested and learnt them very well.)

  • Different format template for each amount column?

    Greetings.
Is it possible to assign diffrent format template for each amount column in Excel workbooks?
I'll explain a bit more specific.
Suppose there's a BW report to Excel as below.
          column1   column2   column3
    row1 111,111   222,222   333,333
    row2 111,111   222,222   333,333
    row3 111,111   222,222   333,333
All columns are amounts, so the assigned format templates are all 'SAPBEXstdData'.  Here, the needs is that each column have the format of their own, such as 'Centered, large font size, bold, red color, etc'.
I found out in SAP help portal that I can create workbook templates which include custom format templates, such as OurColumn1Template.  I also found I can use the workbook templates when opening BW queries.  But it doesn't seem possible to automatically specify format template OurColumn1Template is for column1 when creating a new Excel report from BW query or refreshing a query from a Excel report.
How I can control which format template is assigned for which column? No way?
By the way, we are on BW3.5.
    Thank you,
    T.Yamagiwa

Oh my, I found out! It's easy, in a sense.
We use MS Office 2003, so in the first place we need to change security setting about macro, by the SAP note below.
Note 574596 - BEXAnalyzer SAPBEXOnRefresh is missing on Office XP
    https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/~form/handler?_APP=01100107900000000342&_EVENT=REDIR&_NNUM=574596&_NLANG=E
Now that we've got SAPBEXOnRefresh module in a newly created Excel workbook, the rest we need to do is copy the SAPBEXOnRefresh module to the existing workbook, then code the module, like below.  (this is only doing left-justification)
Sub SAPBEXonRefresh(queryID As String, resultArea As Range)
        Columns("I:I").Select
        With Selection
            .HorizontalAlignment = xlLeft
        End With
    End Sub
I should have search the forum more carefully...hope somebody will find this post kind of useful in the future.
    Regards,

  • Two printers with different paper sizes. How to setup defaults for each?

I have two printers connected to my beloved Mini: Samsung ML-1610 & Epson AccuLaser C1100.
First printer uses American Quarto US Letter paper.
    Second one - European A4.
Every time I try to print anything on either of them I receive a message from printer driver that paper size mismatched. Further more either printer will wait until I press buttons on them to "proceed". Which is very annoying to say the least.
How can I setup defaults for every printer in Mac OS Leopard? If I use printer preferences dialog it will setup either size for both printers rather than for each its own.
    Please advise.

You cannot do exactly what you want from a user interface perspective. I am not sure if such a thing is possible by making changes to hidden files. I certainly haven't heard of it but it may still be possible.
From what I have seen, the page setup dialog is independent of the print dialog. If you set the 'Format for' to one printer, a then choose a different printer when you print, the previous settings won't apply.
You could see if the printer set to A4 supports automatic conversion of LTR to A4. Then at least it won't ask for attention when you send a LTR page to it. Otherwise I think your only option is to check before you print that you have selected the correct paper size for the printer.

    That's freaking ridiculous!!!
You've got to be kidding me... right?
Even MacOS 8 could do this.
Like it's horrible for me because I print a lot of photos. So I set my default paper type Format for: Canon MP610 series, Paper Size: US Letter (borderless). But then when I go home and print web pages or text documents on my Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS, then it still remains set to Format for: Canon MP610 series. The freaking OS knows what printer I'm using; why would it remain formatted for the other printer even though that will cut off the edges of all my prints (since the LaserWriter does not do borderless printing) -- and not even warn me?! I just wasted 30 pages!
I cannot tell you how preposterous it is that a modern OS like Mac OS X cannot even get a simple thing such as printing correct. How could they screw up PRINTING?!

For me anyways, I 'always' create my images to the size I need and then bring them into what ever web design tool I am using wether it is Muse, Dreamweaver, Coda or a number of others. It takes a few minutes longer but I always get the results I need and expect.
