Optimal system set up

After a couple of years of using FCP with various G3/G4/G5s, we can finally set up a G5 quad as a dedicated FCP machine. (thank you, thank you). 7800 card and 4.5 gig. Should arrive next week.
I was wondering if there are any system tweaks to think about, such as disabling Spotlight, screen-savers, and many other things that I may not even be aware of? Or should I just let Apple be Apple, sit back and relax, erm, work?
The plan is to use the internal drive only for the OS, Final Cut Suite and all the SFX and Music files that I need on a regular basis. All project files go on external LaCies (we are doing only SD/DVcam for now).

Also, he sure to set the Processors to Highest in Energy Saver > Options, set hard disks and display to never sleep, and drag your Capture Scratch folder to Spotlight's Provacy tab. That last one is optional. Spotlight indexes all new files it has access to, and this might cause performance issues during capture in FCP. However, the downside is that this move hides all files in that folder from ANY and all searches.
I'd set Autosave Vault to a different volume than the FCP Projects folder (and I second David's advice to put the FCP Projects folder on the boot volume.)
Also, search for the CHUD Tools on the Apple Developer site. Install them, and in System Preferences, an icon for Processor will be added to the Hardware row. With this, you can disable 1, 2, or 3 processors on demand. This is useful for apps that aren't coded for all four processor.
I used this tip recently to use the current version of BitVice. Worked a dream.

Yosemite causes Mac Mini to send sound to wrong System Setting choice

I have a Late 2012 Mac Mini that I run/upgrade with every OS that comes along. Until Yosemite, everything was fine.
After upgrading to Yosemite, the system Sounds (like a boing when a file is copied or moved, or the flyaway sound when a mail gets sent, etc) always come out of the (lame-o) speaker on my HDMI monitor, whereas the other sounds, like youtube videos, the volume up/down click sound, etc, all come from the choice in my systems settings: headphones.
I have tried changing the setting and power off/power on, and even a restart. But nothing seems to make the system sounds come out the headphone jack of my mac mini. Believe me, this has always worked. In fact, I didn't even know I had a speaker on my monitor until Yosemite made it speak!
I tried using apple support chat, but they kept telling me to check the connections, as if my audio wasn't working. It IS working, but it seems that some OS thingys are disobeying the System Setting of 'headphones' and still (always) sending the sounds out the crappy speaker in my monitor.
Has anybody else noticed this?

I found it!!!
Alert sounds (the ones that always go out my HDMI display's (crappy) speaker) are controlled through the Sound Effects pane of the Sound System Preferences window:
System Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects -> "Sound effects through:"
In my case, I have two destination choices for these sound effects: Headphones, and HH281 (my HDMI capable monitor, which is my main/only display).
IF I choose HH281 here, then it doesn't matter if I have System Preferences -> Notifications -> Mail -> Play sound for notifications turned OFF. The sounds still come out my HDMI display's speaker.
IF I choose Headphones in System Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects -> "Sound effects through:", then the sounds come out the headphones ONLY IF System Preferences -> Notifications -> Mail -> Play sound for notifications is turned ON.
So, it appears that alert sound effects have their own setting for how/where they get played. Perhaps this wasn't the case in prior to Yosemite, or perhaps these choices were available in Mavericks, and Yosemite changed the default setting on me. I dunno. But I believe I have it working the way I am accustomed to it working.

Im trying to create the process chain in BW-Production System . Like im trying to delete the PSA data for one datasource in BI7.0 .
Im using the 'Delete requests from the PSA' process type in the process chain . When i try to give the datasource name and source system name in the variant of 'Delete requests from the PSA' process type and save them , then it is saying that
System setting does not allow changes to be made to object LSYS
Why it is saying like that . But i can able to include the other process types in the process chain .

Dear Mohammed,
Since you are trying to create process chain in production system.
Normally production system wont be open for development at any time. Why the system settings does not allow changes was, your production is not modifiable state.
Check the settings in SE06. system would be non-modifiable for sure.
in SCC4, settings ->"changes to the cross customizing objects would be not allowed"
These two settings/configurations would not allow any development or changes or edit or create in production.
Please check with your basis folks and proceed further.

If you login in German you can see the variable %1 being replaced by "SDF/" in the Help window.
Or you can find the text in the note:

Go to SE03 and expand Administration node, Set System Change Option and set Namespace prefix /SDF to Modifiable.

assigned a transactional cube.Now when we are going for creating variables or planning levels for the planning area it

"Alter system set command" in a RAC database!!

Hi, all.
The database is (10.2.0.2.0) 2- node RAC database on 32-bit windows 2003
EE SP1.
I issued the following command on Node 1 database.
--> Alter system set db_block_buffers= xxx sid='rac1';
I was able to see "PE enqueue" in top 5 wait event section from an AWR report.
In addition, I was able to find "PZ99","PZ98" process dump file in BDUMP.
Soon later, I could find CKPT and DBWR hung.
Is there anyone who experienced this issue?

10.2.0.2 has some bug which is fixed 10.2.0.3
You check sequence cache. If it has less value, increase it to 10000.
select CACHE_SIZE from dba_sequences where SEQUENCE_OWNER='SYS' and SEQUENCE_NAME='AUDSES$';

How to set the System Setting

Hi guys
I have Final Cut Express for a few years but I don’t practice very often, I use it once or twice a year when I have a family project to do. I am confused with the Scratch Drive vs the Final Cut Express Document Folder (Scratch disk>F.C.E. Documents>). About 2 months ago, I start a New project. Before that, I cleared up all the previous project files and from the Preferences I trashed the com.apple FinalCutExpress Plist and from the Final Cut Express User Dater File I trashed the F.C.E. 4.0 Pref and the Ojb Cache and reset my Scratch Disk for capturing (not the startup). Now my editing is almost done. Last week I open the Scratch Drive >Final Cut Express Document Folder, I notice there is no captured files (captured materials,data or media) anywhere in the Capture Scratch, Autosave Vault,Thumbnail Cache File and the Waveform Cache File but there are files in the Audio Render File and the Render File (I suppose this Render File is the Video Render). I open the System Setting, I notice I have set the Scratch Disk for Video Capture, Video Render and Audio Render, the rest are set for Startup Disk; I went to the Startup disk, I found them all filled with something, but I have no idea where to locate my captured materials and I am not sure if these settings are correct or they should all be set to store in the Scratch Disk instead. I am all confused. Right now my questions are where to locate my captured materials (data/medias) and how do I reset the above settings if they need to be reset? I appreciate some one will take time to explain all these to me. My equipment is G4, Final Cut Express 4.0 with OX 10.5. If further info is needed, please adv.

If I understand your advice correctly, after the current project is done, I should reset the Thumbnail >Cache File and the Waveform Cache File to the Scratch Disk and leave the Autosave Vault in the >Startup Disk because it is safer.
Yup. Plus back up your Project file to another media type, CD etc. for double security.

Changing names is fine if you do this within the FCE application because FCE still knows where to find the file. If you change the name in the Scratch Disc through the Finder, FCE will loose the link.
don’t know how to reconnect them
Right click an offline clip in the Browser and select reconnect, navigate to where the clip is stored through the window that appears.
You can search this forum for details and all is explained in the FCE manual.

Question on alter system set cluster_database = true

11.2.0.2.0 windows 2008
doing a restore to a development RAC I noticed the following. I took the database out of cluster mode on one instance
alter system set cluster_database=false scope=spfile sid='PRD1';
shutdown, start up, do the restore, all good, I go to set cluster_Database=true but had issue instance would only start on one node, I reviewed my notes and found problem was when I set cluster_Database back to true I had typed
alter system set cluster_database=true scope=spfile sid='*';
instead of
alter system set cluster_database=true scope=spfile sid='PRD1';
So issue fixed.
I retested and confirmed '*' wont take. Ive seen many examples of '*' working online and I am sure I have used '*' many times so had just typed it off my head. Anyone explain? probably quotes or something.

Any chance there are multiple lines for cluster_database in the spfile ?I had thought maybe this, but confirmed no, it was a fresh build anyway that I was restoring to.

As the cluster_database=true is a parameter to enable the RAC configuration. As you typed sid='*' it will try to enable the cluster_database parameter in all the instances(nodes) as it is RAC.
In your case as you did on a single node by specifiying the sid name it will work as it will look only for that sid and enable that particular node.

so when I was on node 1 and ran it for *, I was setting it for all the nodes except the node I was on which holds true from what Ive seen. I'll remember that one.

What is optimal system to run CS4?

I have a pc that exceeds the minimum requirements to run CS4. The only problem is my ram, I am maxed on the mb at 2 Gb. I have read several posts regarding crashes and slowness in comparisons from CS3 to CS4. My system ran CS3 just fine. I have experienced the crashes and slowness described on other threads running CS4. I don't know that my issues are necessarily system related. I am thinking however of building a second system and am wondering what would be the optimal system configuration on which to run CS4. Ultimately, I would like a more stable working environment. Additionally, rendering and exporting seem to be taking a lot longer in CS4. An example, I created a short minute and a half video for my daughter to post for her friends. It took 3:42 minutes to export to wmv? That wasn't my experience with CS3. Please give me your thoughts.

Update:
Given my ram limitations, I restricted many of the services and aps from loading using msconfig. I then uninstalled Norton Internet Security. Huge improvement. My system didn't multi task well. CS4 didn't run well with a lot of unneeded services and aps running in the background. Using it as CS4 workstation and not a as a family pc has improved the CS4 perfomance greatly. Just a thought for people who are trying to run CS4 on systems that are not optimal.

I want to caryout automatic vendor evaluation when i run t code ME63, its show an error system setting for purchase org incomplete where as i have maintained all the parameters from standarfd 0001, can anyone tell me how to carry out ven evaluation.

Select SPRO --> Materials Management --> Purchasing --> Vendor Evaluation. Select following criteria -
1) Define Weighing keys - Here define weighing keys in addition to 01- Equal Weighing & 02- Unequal Weighing (if required)
2) Define Criteria - Here 5 standard criteria are maintained. Maintain additional criteria if required. Also maintain sub-criteria. Each main criteria contains some standard subcriteria. If required you may maintain additional subcriteria upto 20 per main criteria.
3) Define Scope List - Here you may maintain how the evaluated vendors should be ranked.
4) Define Purchase Organization Data for Vendor Evaluation - Here you may maintain main criteria & sub-criteria for your purchasing organisation. Also maintain score for equal & unequal weighing. Maintain point score for automatic criteria for each percentage vainance

Source System set error

We are seeing a weird error with a source system we are trying to re-create after a refresh. Our basis folks have tried many things, and they finally deleted the source system and are trying to re-create it again. They error they cannot get past is in automatic source system set up process when the EDI profiles are generated.
We are seeing the following series of errors:
Error during insert in port table - E0552
EDI Partner Profile not available - E0332
Entry in outbound table not found - E0400
Entry in inbound table not found - E0414
Entry in inbound table not found - E0414
Port Description contains errors. Incorrect destination - RSAR 669
We debuged some last night, and we were seeing that in the function module RSAR_LOGICAL_SYSTEM_CREATE_NEW, it was returning a 'no_free_namespace' error.
I check SDN and OSS, but there was not any notes for the error above.
Has anyone seen this before?

Hi Bill,
I experienced a lot of system setting phase project in the past...I think you missed your Partner profiles (WE20)...take a look to this transaction, here you should find under Partner type LS the logical name of your BW (if missed you have to recreate it !)...here you have to insert as outbound parameter 'RSRQST' as message type and 'RSINFO', 'RSSEND' as inbound parameters, BIW as partner class, status 'A'...
