Optimal system setup / configuration

Hello -
Any suggestions / advice on how to optimize my system for running the FCS (version 2 or 3) and possibly obtain real-time editing performance with just simple transitions, titles, color correcting, audio sweetening?
My current setup:
2009 MacPro 2x2.26ghz
16gb RAM
ATI 4870
HDD =
BAY 1 = 640gb = MAC OS
BAY 2 = 500gb/7200/16mb (formatted as Mac x-journal)
BAY 3 = 500gb/7200/16mb (formatted as Win NTFS)
BAY 4 = 500gb/7200/16mb (currently have B/C running Win 7 on this one)
2x24" Monitors
(still researching on getting some decent monitors for audio; currently just using headphones)
What I'll be editing:
VIDEO
- Analogue tape (Hi-8, VHS)
- Digital tapes (Mini-DV shot with XL1 and Sony PD150 cams)
- 5D MK2 files
PHOTOS
- Still photos from P&S cameras as well as the 5D MK2
AUDIO
- Audio (on camera audio, off camera audio like from a H4n type of device, pre-mixed CD's, SmartSound, Soundtrack, GarageBand compositions)
If there is a link to a different thread, website or PDF that has all this kind of info., please post that or those links; much appreciate it.

Managed System Setup / Configure Diagnostics for Solution Manager itself

Hello,
I'm trying to run the "Managed System Setup" for the Solution Manager itself and
I got a problem in the step 4 (Diagnostics Configuration / Configure Diagnostics):
In the new opened window is only the ABAP stack displayed and the Java stack
is missing.
Does somebody know how to make the java stack visible?
From my point of view seems the configuration of the SMSY ok. The java stack is also
as "relevant" set.
The Solution Manger 7.0 EHP1 is on SP25.

Hi Jorn,
I dont think its happening just because of your CR Content.
Still If you want to update it,then go to Administration Tab in SLD->>Import the latest CR Content from there.
As the latest CR Content is :SAP CR Content Version (sld/active): SAP_CR 7.6 (produced 11/17/2011)
And Jorn if you are stucked in the Diagnostic Agent registration then Go to Agent Candidate Administration->>In connection
Parameters Tab go to->>Custom SLD Connection Parameters->>Apply->>Mark the Diagnostic Agent you want to
connect->>Attach->>Give the password of the SMD_ADMIN->>Apply->>This way you will connect to the available Diagnostic
Agent.Hope this will help your problem.

What is optimal system to run CS4?

I have a pc that exceeds the minimum requirements to run CS4. The only problem is my ram, I am maxed on the mb at 2 Gb. I have read several posts regarding crashes and slowness in comparisons from CS3 to CS4. My system ran CS3 just fine. I have experienced the crashes and slowness described on other threads running CS4. I don't know that my issues are necessarily system related. I am thinking however of building a second system and am wondering what would be the optimal system configuration on which to run CS4. Ultimately, I would like a more stable working environment. Additionally, rendering and exporting seem to be taking a lot longer in CS4. An example, I created a short minute and a half video for my daughter to post for her friends. It took 3:42 minutes to export to wmv? That wasn't my experience with CS3. Please give me your thoughts.

Update:
Given my ram limitations, I restricted many of the services and aps from loading using msconfig. I then uninstalled Norton Internet Security. Huge improvement. My system didn't multi task well. CS4 didn't run well with a lot of unneeded services and aps running in the background. Using it as CS4 workstation and not a as a family pc has improved the CS4 perfomance greatly. Just a thought for people who are trying to run CS4 on systems that are not optimal.

Now that CS5 has arrived, what does it mean for your system setup?

Apart from nice added features, improved stability and increased speed, there are two major factors that impact on your system setup:
1. 64 bit
2. Mercury Playback Engine
64 Bit only
This means a couple of things:
You need a 64 bit OS, you need 64 bit plug-ins and you can use much more memory than the 4 GB limitation that applied to 32 bit OS'es (with effective memory in the 2 - 3 GB range, depending on the Boot.ini switch).
In practice, to benefit from the move from 32 bit to 64 bit, the recommended memory needs to be around 8 or 12 GB, depending on your mobo and chipset and the number of DIMM slots available. With current prices (May 2010) it is not yet economical to opt for 4 GB sticks.
If you have a dual socket board with 12 or more DIMM slots, 24 GB is optimal.
Mercury Playback Engine
This is where it gets interesting.
In the past, up to and including CS4 4.2.1, performance was largely impacted by:
1. CPU
2. Memory
3. Disk setup
4. OS & Tuning
5. ...
and finally by the video card. It did not really matter what video card you had installed. There never was any discernable performance gain from expensive video cards.
The tables have turned.
With CS5, installing a CUDA enabled video card has a large impact on performance and lessens the burden on the CPU. The GPU does a lot of the work.
However, since the CPU gets a lot more breathing space, the CPU will no longer be the primary bottelneck, as was often the case in the past. And since all DIMM slots in the average machine will be occupied, it is a costly exercise to exchange the DIMM sticks with larger capacity ones. People who have only 3 slots in use on a X58 motherboard can directly benefit from adding three more sticks, but this does not happen very often.
So with the CPU running with a relatively low load and memory more or less a given, the only thing that may be a bottleneck to be improved upon is the disk setup. This can be seen easily by scrubbing fast through the time line with the popular AVCHD material. Due to the MPEG nature, while scrubbing one needs to look backwards and forwards to create the image under the CTI and that means a lot of disk activity. CPU is not a bottleneck, memory is not a bottleneck and the GPU is not the bottleneck, it is the disk setup.
Do not be fooled by the claims that SATA2 or SATA3 have enough bandwidth to support the data rate of AVCHD or other MPEG streams. Tests have shown that significant performance gains can be achieved by using a large number of disks, preferably in a raid. This is especially true when one has multiple tracks.
SSD's are not yet an economical alternative for conventional hard disks, with prices that are a factor 30 - 50 higher per gigabyte than conventional disks.
Conclusion
To fully benefit from the performance gains that CS5 allows, it may be that using a MPE supported card will lead to the disk setup being the new bottleneck. Be aware of that fact.

at this point we are still trying to figure out whats up.
bear in mind DV VS AVCHD or Red is a completely different animal. there is a lot to process on encoding vs DV
we think the processors and HDDs are sitting there waiting on CS5
even with Dual Xeon 2.8GHz 12 cores its no faster than the 980x niether are CPU pegging, HDD pegging or ram..
interesting is the Dual Xeons will use about 10G (with 24G installed) ram vs the 980x using 6 (with 12 installed)
dual Xeons have dual memoery pipe lines 1 for each cpu so we think thats where its coming from
but we are still scratching our heads with a good deal of what we are finding in these benchmarks.
most is pointing to CS5 coding.

Move system.serviceModel configuration to a separate config file

Is it possible to move system.serviceModel configurations to another config file?
With appSettings, we can do something like
<appSettings file="development.config">
and during runtime, the web.config or the app.config will retrieve the configuration values from development.config.
I tried <system.serviceModel file="wcf.config"> but it doesn't seem to be working.

We had the same problem and we solved it by using the MsBuild Community Tasks. The setup is easy: we have several Master.app.configs, used in unit test, web client and forms client assemblies, and all have a single empty xml block for service model configuration:

Cisco Ironport ESA System setup wizard

Hi all,
i'm installing a Cisco ESA. I configured IP of Data1 and Management and Hostname with temporary data to enable feature keys.
Now i have to migrate those parameter to final configuration except management. IF i run again the system setup wizard does it blow up
the features installed and activated?

If you re-run systemsetup again from the CLI - it will reset the IP and listeners you have configured, along with the network information associated. You are presented the warning message from the CLI:

Usually, it is just simpler if you are re-IPing the ESA from a temporary IP to permanent IP to just change the information associated via ifconfig and modify the interface as needed, or on the GUI use Network > IP Interfaces.

Managed System Setup Wizard Status " ? " SPS 15

Dear All,
I have a problem with my SMD.
I have already upgrade the Solution Manager 4.0 from SPS 13 to SPS 15.
I want to setup E2E Root Cause Analysis for CRM system.
So I configured SMSY since I didn't configure SLD yet.
I've already installed SMD Agent in managed system successfully also.
When I run the Diagnostics Setup -> Managed System -> Setup WIzard,
in the Setup Parameter Step , it said that " No SMD Agent is currently available (ie not assigned). Please install an agent for jktgrhxsapc1 or unassign an existing agent in Agent Administration Why is that so ?
In the Agent Administration ( DIagnostics Administration -> Managed SYstem -> Agent Administration) found that the agent is online.
Second, In managed system setup wizard - System Selection Step, there's an unknown system with SID '???' and the status said that 'Some SMD Agent Runnning on host not belonging any successfully published solution' . Where can we find the log if we have an error when publishing solution ?

Discovery V2 System - Initial configuration Step Needed

Hi all,
We have got our Discovery system Version 2. We are now in the process of configuring the system.
We used the below link, for setting up the system.
Getting Started with the SAP Discovery System - setup [original link is broken]
The quick guide says that we need to run the D:SQL_EVALSQL2005SQL4SAP.vbs file .
But in the version 2 we don't have a D drive. Only one drive C is available.
And also there is no such file like SQL2005SQL4SAP.vbs available in the system.
Can anyone help us with the initial installation & configuration document for Version 2.

SQL4SAP.vbs is used to install SQL Server 2005 on your system(This installation is not for cluster environment).It will be available in SQL Server 2005 DVD.
SQL Server is shipped with Discovery Server and you willl have to find it.If you don`t find this on the drive you can call for support.Take a look at the blog below.

Error during Managed system setup "Wilyhost Agent" type

Managed system setup finished with one error. Iam using this for selfmonitoring (solman itself as managed system)
Error msg as follows.
0 Wilyhost Agent(s) from host inbbssun02 are connected to the EM.
Wilyhost Agent configuration finished without errors, but on Enterprise Manager (TDCTBI.india.tcs.com:6001) no Wilyhost Agent was detected from host inbbssun02. Please check the log file jvm_smdagent.out whether the Wilyhost Agent could connect to the Enterprise Manager. If the Enterprise Manager configuration has been changed recently please restart the SMD Agent on OS level.

I have restarted the agent at OS level and it appears in the Agent Admin page.
I then re-ran the Managed System Config for this system and receive the same error.
I have looked at the jvm_smdagent.out file on the wilyhost and found the following errors

No P4 connection could be established to SID during managed systems setup

Hi,
I get the following error when executing managed systems setup Create Users request.
No P4 connection could be established to BJR
No configuration found for key (BJR/sapj2ee/msgserver/host). DETECTED Self-managing scenario. You need to first adapt the connectivity of Diagnostics Agent used for the Managed system BJR, before you could proceed with this setup. Therefore change the Agent connection type for the BJR relevant Diagnostics Agent to P4 Dispatcher, before you run again this setup. This connection update has to be performed in the Agent Administration under Agent Connectivity. You could access the Agent Administration from the Root Cause Analysis Work Center when logged as Solution Manager Administrator.
I have deleted and manually recreated SM_ADMIN_SOL, SAPSUPPORT and SM_COLL_SOL users, but still get the same issue.
Message server ports etc are correct. Screenshot below.
I have reviewed OSS note 1678469 but not resolved the issue.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

Which is the optimal hard drive configuration for Logic Pro ?

hello people
i would like to ask your advices about possible hard drive configurations for Logic Pro
I have a Mac Pro and thinking to buy 4 x 500GB drives .
there are several combinations in my mind to configure , but first of all i would like to ask which is the best for an optimal system for Logic Pro
model 1 :
1 stripe Raid 0 array drive for ''System'' (500+500 = 1000)
1 stripe Raid 0 array drive for ''recording + sound banks'' (500 + 500 = 1000)
which means to using 4 hard drives as 2 drives
model 2 :
1 stripe Raid 0 array drive for ''System'' (500+500 = 1000)
1 Single drive for Sound banks (500)
1 Single drive for Recording (500)
which means to using 4 hard drives as 3 drives
Or , it is more healthy to use the drives as single , without raid , stripe sets but with its own capacity instead of combining .
and also if someone has an idea regarding to compare of Seagate and Westerndigital drives (which is the best for audio recording) , would be really helpfull

2) what about to make 1st HD for system and 2nd3rd4th (1.5TB) for audio recording, and an external drive for backups ?
For the back ups , is there a special process for the backing up HD (internal or external) ? Or should i just need a Clone software to make the back up

RCS Managed system setup

Hi,
Do we need to re run managed system setup wizard, each time system stack or EHP is updated ? or even when solman stack is updated ?
Reason: We recently updated solman to SPS27 after which I dont see any data collection happening specially for User Load for ABAP systems
and none for java

Hello,
Run transaction solman_setup and check in the OVERVIEW what are the Open Activities listed in Basic and Initial Configuration.
All activities there must be redone, grey, red or green.
In these tasks there will be the Diagnostics Configuration. This step includes setting the Maintenance Mode ON and OFF, which will stop all agents and deploy the new software to them (the so-called agelets that are delivered centrally from Solman LM-SERVICE to the managed system's SMD Agent).
This is all you must execute after a LM-SERVICE upgrade.
Therefore there's no reason to rerun the whole setup wizard, as it may cause issues with wrong parameters in the setup wizard. If the managed system is working perfectly and this is only an upgrade, it is not recommended to do the setup wizard again.

[BOXI3.0] System Setup-Repository-Error generates

Windows 2003 SP1
JRE 1.6 update 3
I have installed BOXI3.0 on a very fresh machine. All the features are working fine except "Dashboard and Analytics"
I Clicked on "Dashboard Analytics and Setup" ->System Setup-> Repository and etc
then as a result white page is shown and on the top Left "X" is written in RED color
When i right click on the page then " Open Java Console" is shown and then following long Error was shown.

I do not know what happened, but I suggest to double check supported platforms to make sure your system environment (Windows 2003 SP1 ,JRE 1.6 update 3 ) is covered

I am getting error while tring to Check in any document in Sharepoint 2007. Error - "Unable to validate data. System.Web.Configuration.MachineKey.GetDecodedData(Byte[] buf, Byte[] modifier, Int32 start, Int32 length, Int32& dataLength).
Anybody please let me know how to resolve the issue. It has affected our 9 site collection with almost 2000+ sites. Please email me your your suggestion or you can share your ideas here also.
Tried to reset the IIS, checked the Internet connection speed (8MBps). Cleared the cache and all but no luck.
