Optimal Workflow with CS3, Lightroom and iPhoto

I am using Lightroom and CS3 for my initial workflow, adding keyword tags, ratings and flags to my photos in LR. I would like to be able to work with these photos in LR and CS3 and transfer/copy the best of them into a "iPhoto" directory and import them into iPhoto with the CS3 work, meta data and keywords intact so I don't have to go through these changes again in iPhoto. I prefer CS3 for doing the work, but like the emailing, slideshow and iBook capabilities of iPhoto.
Thanks in advance,
Kevin

Few people use both Lightroom and iPhoto - they both do essentially the same thing but are different and in the past iPhoto has found LR processed photos unacceptable - and they can not operate on the same physical photos - you must export photos form LR and import them into iPhoto since they both manage photos
If you want to use both you will have to have photos imported into each
Fortunately external hard drives are cheap -- iPhoto is perfectly happy having its library on an EHD

    I have a PC running Windows XP (yes an antique) with CS3 Photoshop and InDesign and lightroom 2 (yes all antiques). I have acquired a PC running Windows 7 with no programs. I also have a MacBook pro  with full CS5 suite. The programs were already loaded with I got it as a gift. Question 1. If I find serial numbers used to download programs to the old PC, can those CS3 programs be put on the newer PC. Question 2. I really want to put CS5 suite on PC machines. Is that possible? Especially since my MacBook is showing some hard drive problems.

    You should be able to get the CS3 programs installed and running on the new pc since CS3 is spec-ed for Windows 7 Service Pack 1.  Downloading the programs does not require a serial number.  You can find them here:  Download CS3 products  but you will need the serial number to activate the programs.  You might be able to find that thru your Adobe account online.
    You will not be able to install the CS5 Mac version on a PC and you won't be able to trade it to a PC version either due to it being an older version.  Trades are allowed only for the latest version (CS6)

  • I want to sell my Canon EOS 6D with bundled Lightroom and Elements. May the purchaser use the bundle

    I want to sell my Canon EOS 6D with bundled Lightroom and Premiere Elements. May the purchusar use the bundled software?

    In researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6.
    That is correct. Your camera was first supported by Camera Raw 7.3. Camera Raw 7.3 will not work with CS5. You need CS6 or CC.
    Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
    I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost.
    It all depends on your preferred workflow and your budget.
    Using the DNG converter is free. There is no monthly fee. You use the converter to convert all Raw files from the EOS 6D to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5. That's an extra step every time - every photo. Some people don't like the extra step. Others don't mind.
    Camera raw, DNG | Adobe Photoshop CC
    Or you can upgrade to CS6 (non-Cloud) and pay the upgrade fee
    Creative Suite 6
    Or join the Cloud and pay the monthly fee
    Or join the Photoshop Photography Program (US9.99/month) and get PS CC+LR

  • Using Lightroom and iPhoto

    I use Lightroom and iPhoto. I mainly use Lightroom for everything. If it's personal photos I use iPhoto but mostly Lightroom. If I want to share these and/or sync with other devices like AppleTV, iPhone, MobileMe then I have to export from Lightroom to iPhoto. That doubles up on files and hard drive space. What do others do that use Lightroom and iPhoto? I love being able to share and sync with iPhoto but it's just to much to ask of my Hard Drives.

    In Creative Cloud, does the $9.99/month Individual Photography plan come with BOTH Lightroom and Photoshop CC?  It is not very clear on the home page.  It shows both and mentions both, but doesn't specifically say BOTH come with the monthly $9.99/month plan.  Can somebody clarify?

  • Workflow with item type and item key  is in progress. Abort existing workfl

    Dear all,
    I'm using the below code from the submit button event to launch the workflow. The workflow works fine when I submit for the first time, when i try to submit for the second time from the same session it throws me the error as Workflow with item type and item key is in progress. Abort existing workflow.
    Where I am struck,Kindly send me any solution.
    I am using below code in oaf
    public void workflow(OAPageContext pageContext,
    String headerId,
    String empName,
    String userName
    String wfItemType = "XXSample";
    String wfProcess = "XXSample";
    String wfItemKey = headerId;
    OANavigation wfClass = new OANavigation();
    // Create Workflow Process
    wfClass.createProcess(pageContext, wfItemType, wfProcess, wfItemKey);
    System.out.println("Workflow created");
    wfClass.setItemAttrText(pageContext,
    wfItemType,
    wfItemKey,
    "XXHDRID",
    headerId);
    wfClass.setItemAttrText(pageContext,
    wfItemType,
    wfItemKey,
    "XXEMPNAME",
    employeeName);
    wfClass.setItemOwner(pageContext, wfItemType, wfItemKey,username);
    wfClass.startProcess(pageContext, wfItemType, wfProcess, wfItemKey);
    System.out.println("Workflow started");
    Thanks,
    Kumar.

    Item type and item key forms unique record for the workflow session, you cannot have 2 instances of the workflow running for the same header id, in your case. Check if the process exists for the header id. If so, display a warning message without launching another workflow session, else start the workflow process.
    Thanks

  • How to make an AIDrawArtAGMPort on Windows with CS3, CS4 and CS5

    Hi
    I want to use the function DrawArt of AIDrawArtSuite.
    To use this function, I must have an AIDrawArtGWorld or an AIDrawArtAGMPort or an AIDrawArtAGMPoirtV6 object.
    With CS6 SDK, this suite provides a mean to instantiate an AIAGMPort.
    With CS3, CS4 and CS5 this function doesn't exist.
    On MacOS X, I can build AIDrawArtGWorld.
    On Windows, I don't know how to do it.
    On Windows how can I make an AIDrawArtAGMPort  object ?

    Hi,
    It is not recommended way to install SAP System without following Standard Installation Method. Please read concerned Official SAP Installation Guide and follow the standard procedure without inviting more complexities and headache.

  • Tapeless workflow with FCP 5 and Canon XL H1

    Is it possible to establish a tapeless workflow with FCP 5 and a Canon XL H1 shooting in HD mode?
    We have to shoot many days of lectures and want to skip the import of the footage. The firestore FS-C can only record up to 7.5 hours in HD but we don't have the time to empty it overnight so it can be available the next day...
    We can connect a couple of 500 GB lacie to a 17" Macbook Pro and wanted to use FCP to live capture from the camera. Is that possible?
    Or did anyone try to do that with the Canon Console software (windows only) and then import its stream in FCP?
    Thanks

    No time to unload a drive when you have all night? Why would that be? Isn't this just a big drag and drop? Can't let it start and go to dinner?
    If you shoot HDV you should also record it to tape becuase disk drives can fail etc during the shoot.
    You can capture live from the camera's FW port but again I'd shoot tape as well... use capture now but also use the device control that works with that camera to get the TC thru too. (probably FW HDV basic)
    The camera also has an uncompressed output but that would take a capture card and fast disk array (faster than FW for sure) to capture the uncompressed HD.

  • Using Lightroom and Iphoto Together

    Can anyone point me to a tutorial or provide information on the best way to utilize Lightroom with Iphoto? I have read several posts which are contradictory in regards to importing photos into Lightroom from Iphoto. Some say to export files to Finder and then use Lightroom to import. Others say to open Iphoto Package Contents, make alias and use Lightroom to import. I am a new mac user and would like some clarification before I screw it all up. I like the ease of Iphoto for everyday organization, emailing and flickring but would like to import selected photos or events into Lightroom for processing. Thx a bunch.

    What are you trying to do, exactly?
    Both LR and iPhoto are photo managers. iPhoto is firmly pointed at the home user with a point and shoot camera, LR is a professional grade application aimed squarely at the Raw shooter.
    In either case +they both do the same job+, so using both is a bit like writing your Novel in Word and also in Pages at the same time.
    Assuming you want to import pics from your camera, store them, process them and then organise them into albums etc, I would use Lightroom. It's just a more powerful app for the job.
    Then, if there's something that LR can't do - for instance, Slideshows or books or whatever - then export the pics you want to use from LR to the Finder and import into iPhoto, or use *_this_* LR plug in to automate the process.
    I have read several posts which are contradictory in regards to importing photos into Lightroom from Iphoto.
    You need to understand something. Both Application are Databases. A photo needs to be imported before they can even see or manipulate it. While Aperture can read the iPhoto database, LR is utterly oblivious to the iPhoto DB and vice versa.
    Some say to export files to Finder and then use Lightroom to import.
    This is the correct way.
    Others say to open Iphoto Package Contents, make alias and use Lightroom to import.
    Never, ever do this. Any slight change to the path of the file and your iPhoto Library is toast.
    but would like to import selected photos or events into Lightroom for processing.
    Frankly, this sounds to me more like a job for Photshop Elements rather than LR.

  • Working with Elements 6 and iPhoto

    I am big time confused, not even sure if in the right forum, but will give it a go..
    Working with new iMac 10.5.6...2.66
    Just installed Elements 6
    Will someone walk me through the downloading of photos. I have read so many instructions my head is ready to burst.....
    The Missing Manual states better to use bridge then iPhoto?????
    Where do I compile my library? iPhoto, PS Elements, Bridge???
    Which program do I use to download???
    I will study the editing after i figure out how/where to Organize my photos.
    I know this will sound elementary to most.
    Did some work with Picture It on my old PC, so hv a idea where i would like to go, but cant figure out how to get there..
    Many thanks!!

    The Missing Manual states better to use bridge then iPhoto?????
    That is a personal decision - I much prefer iPhoto - it is much more powerful than bridge but there are people who prefer bridge -the key is that you can not use both - you must make a decision - they both do photo organization and bridge is highly likely to corrupt your iPhoto library
    Where do I compile my library? iPhoto, PS Elements, Bridge???
    Again - your choice - PSE is not a photo organizer - it is a photo editor and will work just fine with either bridge or iPhoto
    Which program do I use to download???
    The one you choose
    If you chose iPhoto then by default it will open and give you a download window to download your photos when you connect your camera or put your memory card in an USB card reader (the recommended way to import photos).
    If you choose Bridge then you need to go to the Adobe forums or read the manual - and need to set the the iPhoto (or image capture) preference for the correct action when a camera is connected
    If you choose to use iPhoto then you will want to set PSE as the external editor in the iPhoto preferences

  • HELP WITH CS3 VERSION AND WINDOWS 8.1

    I have just purchased Photoshop CS3 on Ebay.  Unfortunately, I had no idea that it might not be compatible with windows 8.1.  Before I open the package and have no way to return this product, can anyone tell me if they have been successful in uploading this program with Windows 8.1.  I did find Adobe note saying that there were no known major issues ... but have read some other reviews that conflict with this information.  Thanks so much for any help you could pass on.  I do not want to "pay as you go" month to month for Photoshop ... would rather own an older version I am quite happy with.  Thanks

    Ok it's like the serial number model in that you download the actual Photoshop programs to your PC (you can install on up to two PCs or Macs for your own use).  But instead of a serial number, you set up a recurring charge account, and you sign in to activate the program.
    Your work can be saved anywhere on your computer just like the older serial number type. You keep your files even if you discontinue the subscription. Your files can still be opened by other programs, but if there was a feature exclusive to CC or CC 2014 you won't be able to edit it. But to answer your questions your files stay with you, Adobe doesn't see or possess any copies.
    If you decide to stay on, what you get is upgrades and new versions as soon as they are released. No more upgrade fees. You get the Extended version of Photoshop with 3D and video editing features. Not bad for $10 a month.
    You do get cloud storage, but only 2 GB and nothing goes there unless you upload it.
    Think of it as a holding place for the files you wish to share with others.
    You can get Bridge CC with the latest Adobe Camera Raw, and Lightroom for managing and editing large amounts of digital Photos.
    Typekit if you want to add new fonts.
    That's the short story, here are the ddetails and of course you can try before you buy.

    If you are heavy into Design, you might want the full Creative Cloud for $50/month with all the web, video, and publishing tools you want.

  • Trouble with itunes playlist and iphoto slideshow

    Hello,
    I have created the slideshow in iphoto with background music from a playlist from itunes. It all looks great and plays perfectly in iphoto but after the conversion into a movie using Quicktime only the first song from the playlist accompanies the slideshow. I have done this before with an earlier slideshow and it all worked out great: Slideshow became movie accompanied by the whole playlist. This problem seems to have occurred since I upgraded to itunes 7.6 and Quicktime 7.4 Any ideas or hints would greatly appreciated.

    my advice has always been to rebuid any arrays with the new OS.
    backup, delete, restore/reload
    And invest in SoftRAID for your driver for all drives but esp. for mirror.
    TimeMachine - I'd pull your current backup drive and use a new one.
    And clone.
    Never rely on one backup set, or method.
    iTunes has always been.... interesting. Maybe someone in iTunes forums, and Lion community.
    I have always had iTunes and my media/data personal account home folder (back to 10.2 days) on separate drive volumes. Often stripped. Vista + itunes + RAID = corrupt data, but that was 2007.
    Shift launch iTunes. Told it where Media Library is. There are Apple support articles to cover this.

  • Problem with CS3 Photomerge and creating jpegs

    Just created a panorama out of 4 jpegs (together about 33MB) and saved it as jpeg.
    Now I want to create another panorama out of 10 jpegs (together about 73MB), it worked fine, but I can't save it in jpg format. CS3 only offers .psb, raw or tif. So whatswrong or did i miss something?
    Otto

    The original jpegs were all 8bit (created with LR from Canon raw). My resolution for the moment: saving within CS3 as tif, open the tif with my freeware viewer Faststone and saving it as a jpeg (size is 39033 x 2710 pixel). Even this, opening the tif and saving as jpeg is not possible within CS3. So what is the problem?

  • Workflows with SpeedGrade CC and Premiere CC

    Is there any new workflow related feature in the upcoming Speedgrade CC that hasn't been shown yet ?
    The new Lumetri Deep Color Engine looks like a fantastic idea, but unless I missed something you have to manually load each .look for each clip that get a discrete color correction. That's not that much of an issue for a multicam program, but for anything else that might have tens, hundreds or even thousands of differents .look to load on their respective clips, I wonder how it is usable. Please correct if I'm wrong and if you included some kind of auto .look linker.
    Also, is SpeedGrade CC still limited to importing .EDL, or is .XML import coming to the next version ?

    You can actually use the Lumetri effect on adjustment layers and on individual clips. That will allow for easily applying a production look to an entire project, or slicing your project into acts with their respective looks, or using it based on scenes.
    On the SpeedGrade side itself, we haven't changed the import structure for the version you're gonna get on June 17th.

  • Panasonic AG-HPX500 workflow with FC - pros and cons?

    We are now shooting on Betacam SP, capturing to DV using a DSR-45P DVCAM deck.
    We edit in FCP 5.
    Now we are about to first upgrade our computers to MacBook Pro and Mac Pro and FCS 6.
    Next step is a new camcorder.
    We have been recommended to take a look at Panasonic AG-HPX500, which uses the P2 card.
    Have anyone of you excellent forum members started working with this camcorder?
    I understand that FCS 6 does have native support for the P2 card and if you have a MacBook Pro, you can plug the P2 card into the computer and copy the footage you want to use to a hard drive (or even edit directly on the P2 card).
    I'd be very glad if you'd share your opinions.
    We have this idea to start shooting and editing in HD and then downconvert to SD when creating the MPEG-2 for a SD DVD as output format. This would hopefully give the best quality to our MPEG-2 encoder.

    I've been using the P2 system for about 7 months and have to say it's great!
    I'm not sure what you mean about it not having native support in FCP. FCP 6 has all you need to get your material in and work with it using the Log and Transfer system within the app.
    I use a P2 reader to get the material in, and yes you can use a laptop but only the Powerbok type, the newer MacBook Pro's have the smaller PCMCIA slot so you can't transfer without a P2 viewer or reader. The good thing about the reader is it has 6 slots so you can just setup your transfers and then go away for a bite, come back and it's all done, rather than swapping cards etc.
    All in all a great workflow. The only problem I have experienced is a couple of cards I had became corrupted, although they played fine in the camera. I was able to record off the material via HD SDI and save it, it just wouldn't show up in the reader/viewer.
    The flexibility of the P2 system in terms of shooting formats, under and over cranking etc is fantastic, very much another step towards achieving filmic quality with digital equipment.
    I don't know if there are any real benefits to be had by shooting in HD and resolving down to SD. You'll end up just loosing a lot of frame info in the transfer and you'd be hard pushed to see any discernable difference between good quality SD and the route you propose.
    Having said that, investing in HD is a good move as will only get more widespread and lets hope that the formats calm down a bit!
