Optimal Zen Micro Setup for XP

Hello,
I am on my second micro and I really want this thing to work!
The first one had a dead dri've. This one has with issues recognition, file transfers and getting stuck in a "Docked, don't touch me" status.
In theory, this is the best player on the market as far as size, value, FM radio etc.
In reality, I have had nothing but problems and am about to switch to an IPod..........
Can someone who has a good working Micro setup.... using XP Pro and Windows Media Player 0.
(Would they being reading this..... lol)
List what they have found to be the best combination of:
Firmware version,
Driver version,
Method for transfer,
and Application Version (I seem to have the most problems with Windows Media)
(I don't use music subscription services, just my own CD's.)
Thanks,
Amy

There's a known issue caused by Quicktime 7, so perhaps this is the problem. Try uninstalling it.

Yes, it is a Zen Micro with version 2.20.05. I am wanting to manage the tracks as well as move them onto iTunes on my new computer (which has Windows 7). However, when it is plugged into the USB, it is as if the computer doesn't even recognize that it is plugged in even though it shows as charging on the player. Is there a solution to this?
Have you done & Cleanup>Reboot on your player? Use Rear USB ports no hubs, try another USB cord. What software have you installed if any?

  • Is Zen micro good for joggi

I'm just about to buy a Zen micro, but I read from their Q&A that it's not recommended for sudden shakes like jogging. This is really holding me back. Has anyone tried jogging with it and is it still in one piece without internal injuries afterwards? Heard ipods would be better for jogging but it has no features at all.

From what I've read no HD player is good for jogging and many iPods have been trashed that way eventually. I would recommend a flash player such as the C00 Sport, not as much space as a hard dri've obviously but you can expand it to .25GB with SD cards and carry a few about with you if you need more space.

  • Zen Micro, license for mus

Hey, I used purchased a Zen Micro mp3 player. I am using Napster to go for my music. BUt I don't know what I did, and the first batch of songs I transferred from Napster won't play. It says that there's no license, sync from pc. How can I fix this? I hope I don't have to transfer the songs again. The songs I just uploaded works fine (i.e. this is second upload since purchase).

Did you play the files on your PC first before synching them? That's usually a requirement of Windows Media DRM (download or subscription).

  • Zen Micro - Support for Naps

Any news on support for the new Zen Micro using Napster ?

It tends to be Creative policy not to give dates or future features until they are actually complete and the firmware is ready for download.

  • Is Zen Micro Firmware for PlayForSure (MTP) availab

    Hi,
I have just got a Zen Micro and noticed there is a MediaSource Plugin available for PlayForSure devices.
This requires Firmware 2.00.2 or above.
Is this available for the Zen Micro? ( The downloads section makes the plugin available but not the required firmware).

Just get the later v2 firmware (something like v2..XX).

  • Zen micro play for sure firmware and win

I have a zen micro and want to download audio files from audible.com and i tunes, but i need the play for sure firmware installed to be able to play the files. The problem i have is that to upgrade to that firmware i need to be running win xp, but my pc is running win 2k. Once my zen micros firmware?has been upgraded i can download the creative legacy os software to allow me to put my files on the ZM, it is the upgrade that is causing me problems. Is there any way around this or have i got to do the upgrade on a pc running win xp?thanks in advance?simes

    Ok, first things first:
Because of Apple's marketing games iTunes WILL NEVER sync with ANY DAP other than iPods so no luck there.
Furthermore, check if the Micro has Audible support and if so, make sure it ONLY has support with the v2.xx.xx firmwares.
If and only if it does then proceed with the update.
HERE and HERE are links to a most comprehensi've post about how to make MTP devices work in pre-XP windows systems.
I think that the best thing you could do is enable the MTP support on your Win2K system BEFORE trying the update. In that case it will probably work fine.
    Hope that helps some.
    Cheers!

  • Zen Micro Charger - for times when you aren't near a power source for day

Hi All ... now this may seem like a strange request and i'm not sure whether it would be possible but here goes..
As a traveller around the world there is many the time when i am away from a power source for a number of days maybe 5. This means i would either have to carry alot of precharged batteries around or to find another way to charge up my Micro battery/s.
With this in mind i was thinking ... could i use any other method to charge my battery (being as there is no power source available .. including a laptop) So could i build a solar panel of some description ? Could i create a charger using Ordinary Alkaline batterys ... Any suggestions?
I'll probably have to buy 5 or more batteries in the end .. but it was just a thought.
Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have.

interesting topic, other then camping, i can't see a time, for me at least, where this would be relevant, but a solar charger sounds like an interesting idea none the less. this is the time i bring along my minidisc player that uses AA batteries of which i have an infinite supply :smileyvery-happy: Other then that, i have this tire inflater that has a built in recharable 2v battery. the nice thing about it is it has a cigarette lighter type DC jack on it. i haven't tried it to charge but i'm sure if you got a DC - USB charger it could work (on a camping type expedition that is, you wouldn't want to drag it onto a train)
which brings me to another point, why is is that most portable players have to use some proprietary battery format? i know that SIZE is prolly the *biggest* reason but i just don't understand why you can't build a small player that runs on something standard like AA or AAAs. i don't mind having an extra battery around but at $40 or so per battery, there ain't no way i'm buying like 5 or 6 batteries. sheesh!

  • Optimal multiple disk setup for AE

I have an 8-core Mac Pro 4,1 with 24GB RAM, a Radeon 5770, an SSD (about 75MBs/125MBs), a couple of WD Caviar Blacks and some regular old 7500rpm drives.  I've decided to try and extend it's life a little rather than buying a new Mac Pro.  Leaving more RAM and GPU upgrades aside, I'm not quite sure where to spend my money in order to maximise performance.  For example, I currently use the SSD for OS, Apps and Home folder.  But if AE is loaded into RAM when I run it, surely teh SSD would be more useful for my media? I don't really care how fast the OS or Apps load because I tend to do that over coffee and then spend all day in After Effects!
…I use AE a lot.  Plus a bit of C4D, PS and very rarely PP.
There is a chart here with suggestions for optimal disk allocation, but unfortunately it's aimed at PP, and doesn't mention disk or bus speed at all.
I am thinking of buying a Sonnet Tempo Pro and SSD's so that I can add very fast  storage over PCIe.  The Tempo Pro can mount 2 SSD's as 2 volumes or as a RAID for even more speed.  I don't know which would be best - having media on a superfast RAID drive and the OS on a slower SATA one, or having one SSD for OS and one for Media.
And then there is the AE Disk Cache. Then there is the 'Conformed Media'.
I think I can figure out redundancy and backup options - I'm just keen to understand performance.

Hm - this Adobe white paper states
"Multiple drives may be used to deliver higher performance. A simple technique is to install multiple
single drives in a desktop workstation computer, and dedicate each to specific tasks: for example,
one for the operating system, one for your files (with potentially separate drives for your sources
and output, especially for Adobe Premiere Pro), and one for your temporary storage caches"
I am attempting to optimise performance here, not merely avoid problems.  If I were to go ahead and get the Sonnet Tempo, Todd, are you saying there would be no noticeable performance gain by then using other (albeit slightly slower) drives for the OS?  Or, to put it another way, if one's drives vary in IO speed, there is no point in using ANY of them other than the fastest one for Apps, OS and all AE Caches?

  • Optimal Hard Drive Setup for 3D and CS6 Motion Graphics?

Hello, I'm trying to figure out the best way to separate the following into different hard drives for best performance...
    - OS (probably Windows 7 or 8 64bit)
    - OS page swap disk
    - Programs (Cinema4D and Adobe CS6)
    - Adobe Media/Disk Cache
    - Project files
    - Source/Import Data Files
    - Render/Output Data Files
    So far, I'm thinking of...
    - One Internal SATA3 SSD for OS, OS swap, Programs, Adobe Media Cache
    - One Internal SATA2 HDD for Project and Source/Import Data Files
    - One External USB3 HDD for Render/Output Files
I'm wondering if separating the files in a different way would be more optimal, and/or if adding more SDD hard drives for the Page Swap file and Media Disk Cache would we worth the money. Particularly, should the OS, OS swap file, Programs, and Media Cache be separated into different drives?

    1. Why separate Project and Media(I'm assuming you mean footage/photoshop/ect.) files? Aren't project files very small?
Premiere Pro and After Effects project files aren't that large, but on this drive I also include any audio and stills used in the project, as well as the Encore project.  Essentially anything you would need to rebuild the project down the line would go here, except the media.  That goes on it's own dedicated drive.
Depending on the complexity, a project folder can easily get into multi-gigabyte range.
    2. If I have one SATA3 SSD with OS(plus page file) and programs on it, would it be better to put the Cache/Scratch/Previews there as well, vs. on a separate slower SATA2 HDD disk?
I'd go separate.  Don't put anything on the System drive but the OS and Windows.

  • Does Zen Micro Explorer esit for Micro Pho

i really don't like the software thatcame with my Micro Photo. Will the explorer software work with the Micro Photo?

I was able to answer my own question, and confirmed what one other person in this forum had found out: the charger for the Zen Micro does in fact work for the Zen V Plus. Creative acknowledges this as well--in the current ads on their website, they are selling Zen Micro chargers for $9.99, and a footnote says that they work with the Zen V Plus, Zen MicroPhoto, and Zen Neeon.

  • Zen micro, connection to pc proble

I got my new zen micro today, because i had a problem with the other one, but this time its when i connect it to the computer.
I pluged in the Mp3 player and the usb and it showed on the computer "A new device has been found" and so.
and i hadnt install the Creative programs, so i installed them and Zen Micro Media Explorer couldnt find my player, only Windows Media Player started.
So i wonder if there is a way to start everthing over again, so i can install the programs and then plug in the player so its going to work like it did the first time i had the player?
I have tried to uinstall the Creative program and reinstall but it didnt work.

Hmmmm, not totally sure, but this is what I did when I first got my Micro.
(on a school computer) Inserted installation CD and installed only the Zen Micro (no, not Media Source or anything else, just the option for the Zen Micro). Chose NOT to restart my computer.
Connected my Micro to the computer. It was found and drivers installed. I then upgraded the FW on my Micro to 2.20.05.
(on my home computer) Plugged in Micro and it auto-installed the drivers. Then installed "<B>Zen Micro Media Explorer .00. for Creative Zen Micro Setup</B>". I can either use this or the default Windows Explorer to manage my music, but I use this (ZMME) to manage my Micro's playlists.
I use WMP to rip CD's to WMA or MP3 and everything works out just fine. :-D

  • Can I transfer Music from One Zen Micro to another Zen Mic

    Hello,
I've had my Zen Micro (Green) for 3 weeks now and now my girlfriend wants one a Zen Micro too, which she'll get in the next few days. I was wondering if there's any way to transfer mp3s from my Zen Micro to hers?
I was thinking if I plugged 2 Zen Micros into my PC and then load up the Nm=oman Player and just drag the songs from one Zen Micro to another......will that work. Or is it best to just drat the songs onto the PC and then transfer them onto my Girlfriend's Zen?

I would imagine you can do that .... although you may need the latest firmware 2.xxxxx which would mean you have to use WMP 0 ...
I should wait until she gets hers then plug it into your PC and see if it recognises it .... if it does you have no worries .. if not post again and everyone will do there best to help out
