Optimize Printing Over a WAN Connection - RDP

I have several users that connect to a central Terminal Server using RDP. Printing from Adobe Acrobat is very slow.
Explanation:
We had a Windows Server 2003 and Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro and Distiller running. Users were able to print at an acceptable speed. Not more than 20 seconds between request and the actual print.
We now have a Windows Server 2008 and Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended and Distiller is running. The delay to start print can be up to 5 minutes.
I'm thinking that there must be some setting (s) in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended that may be causing this. Maybe a setting for the quality of the print or maybe something with rendering.
I would appreciate your suggestions.

You may not get a response for any solution. The configuration you have seems to be for folks to print to the Adobe PDF printer on a server. That is a violation of the license agreement unless you may have negotiated a special license with Adobe. Acrobat is only licensed for a single machine (with some exceptions, but still under single use intent) and is specifically stated to not be used on a server.

  • Printing over wireless Network connection

Both my iMac and Macbook are networked over a wireless network. My printer is connected to my MacBook.
I have turned on print sharing on both computers and am able to see the printer that's connected to my MacBook on my iMac, but when I try and print something on my iMac, nothing happens.
It gets added to a print queue on the iMac, but not the MacBook.
Can anyone give me an explanation as to why this is happening? and how to rectify this?
    Thanks!
    Phil

I have a PowerMac G5 desktop which has a printer attached by USB. I have a wireless router, to which the G5 is connected by Ethernet, and a MacBook wirelessly. Printer Sharing is turned on on the G5 because it is "hosting" the printer. I don't have Printer Sharing turned on on my MacBook. I can print wirelessly from the MacBook even though printer sharing is off (I do have file sharing turned on, however). Any computer on the network (I only have a MacBook) can see the printer attached to the host G5. I wonder with your setup why your printer is attached to the laptop and not the desktop (just your preferred setup I guess). I wonder if having both computers' print sharing on is confusing things b/c only one of them actually has a printer attached. I do remember having to reboot in the early days of my setup when I had Printer Sharing enabled on both machines. But like you said it is working so it really doesn't matter.

    Hello,
We have a rpinting issue , here are the details:
    R3 4.6C on Windows Server 2003
    SAPGUI runs on Citrix
A user iopens the SAPGUI on citrix , the sapworkdir is located on her Home Folder (H:), she has full
    permissions to that folder.
When she prints to a printer that is defined in SPAD - it prints without a problem.
When she prints to an LPT1 printer attched to her computer - it doesn't print and the following error appears on the SAPLPD console window:

Along with Chen recommendations; Please make sure that Printer is configured on CITRIX desktop.
You can set up the Printer in the following manner::
    1.START>SETTINGS-> PRINTERS and FAXES.
    2. Click on ADD Printer and Click on NEXT
    3. Select LOCAL PRINTER ATTACHED TO THIS COMP and make sure that AUTOMATICALLY DETECT is not selected and Click on NEXT
    4. Select Create a New port and select Standard TCP/IP port and Click on Next
    5. Enter the IP address of the Printer and also give the Port name
    6. Click on next again (no need to change in this screen)
    7. Printer info will be displayed. CLick  on Finish.
Check in SU01 if LOCL is given as the Default device.

  • Printing over wireless connection

How would you set up a powerbook to print over a wireless connection? I set up a wireless network for my mom (she had a Dell Inspiron8600) when I passed on my PowerBook to her. Wireless internet connection is working fine. The main unit connected to the modem is the Inspiron. I can't seem to figure out what I have to do to get the PowerBook to print. If someone could walk me through the setup process I would sure appreciate it! The printer hooked up to the Inspiron is an HP Deskjet 5470. It is not being recognized by the PowerBook.

Make sure you have the latest drivers on your Mac and make sure the printer is shard on your pc. Go to system preferences on your mac click on "printer/fax" click on the + sign. Then go to "more printers" then find your printer on your network.
This technique has gotten my mac to communicate with my printer, but not actually print but maybe it will be successful for you.

  • Remote Printing over IPP

Hello Mac OS X Server Community,
I am having trouble setting up remote printing over IPP for my Mac Mini (2009) Server. Let me explain the hardware I am working with, and the steps I have attempted to achieve remote printing thus far.
    Hardware:
    (1) Cisco WRVS4400N Router
    (2) Mac Mini (2009 w/ Mac OS X Server 10.6.4 installed)
    (3) MacBook Pro (2008 w/ Mac OS X 10.6.4 installed)
    (4) HP LaserJet CP2025 printer
    Note:
    • All firmware, drivers, and software is up-to-date on all devices
    • Cisco Router acts as a gateway
    • MM Server handles printing service and queues
    • MBP acts as client for printing
    • HP LaserJet CP2025 is connected to the LAN via an ethernet cable (not a USB cable)
Steps to setting up remote printing:
    (1) Mac OS X Server Initial Setup complete
    (2) Printing service started and HP printer added to printer queue.
    (3) IPP and other pertinent ports allowed to pass through in Mac OS X Server Firewall
    (4) On the router, forward IPP port 631 to the server's LAN IP address.
    (5) Add printer to client by adding printer via bonjour shared printer. (I've tried to add to printer specifically over IPP with the server's fully qualified domain name, but this has been unsuccessful.)
    Issue:
I can print locally while connected to the LAN, but I can't print remotely, even though the necessary services seem to be running and the necessary ports seem to be forwarded correctly. Is there a setup step I'm missing, error in my setup, or any other advice anyone can contribute? Much appreciated in advance!

+"I don't bother with it nowadays as (along with the VPN Service) it can become unreliable."+
Are you saying here that the VPN Service is unreliable or that you don't bother using the VPN service?
+"For quotas to work effectively (IMHO) you really need an OD environment with all that that means. It can be made to work over a WAN connection but the question is do you really want to? Again just an opinion but better to print to it directly and leave it at that."+
Right now, the forwarded LPR port works, but I have a problem that this is still an open port. Anyone who knows the address of my router can print to my printer. I don't think that is going to happen too often, but it's still a problem all the same. Do you know how to set up OD authentication for printing on Mac OS X 10.6 over the LPR or IPP protocols?
Also, hypothetically if you were to have multiple printers on your LAN, then the server would need to handle the print requests, correct? (i.e. - the IPP or LPR port would need to be forwarded to the server). This method has been unsuccessful for me with even one printer on my LAN.
+"Your printer looks like it supports IPP in which case have you contacted HP Tech Support yet? Ask them the question as they may be able to help?"+
I have not contacted HP Tech Support yet. I think it may have something to do with my router. I've been in communication with Cisco about some other issues. I'll try to talk to them this weekend about the IPP port and others not seemingly being forwarded to the server and/or printer.
Any other help you could provide in the meantime is appreciated.

  • My iPhone and my iPad are connected by wi-fi, but I can't print on HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus. On the other hand, I can print over wi-fi from PC. What can I do?

Hallo, thank you for trying to help. Here is my problem:
In the past, the airprint was possible without problems from iPhone 4 and iPad 2. Since today it doesn't work anymore. My iPhone 4 and my iPad 2 is connected by wi-fi and I can serve in the internet. But I can't print on HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus. On the other hand, I can print over wi-fi from PC.
There are low ink-levels and therefore a message comes to indicate this by printing from PC. iPhone and iPad are accepting the print order without any messages after, but does't excecute the print.
    What can I do?

    Hey helmut,
You can also try the ePrint method listed here if you can't get AirPrint working:

  • DNS: Client can't connect because .local domain isn't in DNS. How can I connect over the WAN to server.domain.local?

So my 2012 server is set up on the LAN with a .local domain name.
Remote Desktop Services are set up and remoteapp stuff works fine on the LAN.
I've set up port forwarding so I can connect to the server over the WAN too, but remoteapp stuff is a bit different. I can connect to the server by specifying the correct IP address. Giving a Web browser the address
    https://serverIPAddress/RDWeb
lets me get the login screen and see the range of apps for me to run. I select one, the connectoid is downloaded correctly (in Chrome) and I click on the downloaded connectoid.
Unfortunately, rather than pursuing the sensible IP-address approach that I started with, the connectoid has been given the server's name on the LAN:  server.domain.local. Clearly, the client machine tries to look this up but DNS hasn't heard of
it because it's a .local address.
I cannot be the only one to have come across this apparent oversight on Microsoft's part. Any ideas as to how this can sensibly be overcome? Obviously, I could put the IP address translation into every client's hosts file (and I've done this and shown it
works) but I've got too many clients to mess about like this. Anybody know 'the Microsoft way' to fix this?
Thank you for checking this out -- I am confident the details of the problem are completely specified in this query but, if I'm wrong, please ask.
    Many thanks again,
    Biffo

  • Unable to print to local Printer over RDP - Windows Server 2008

    Hi,
    Windows 2008 Foundation R2.
Started to have issues with printing to a Local printer over RDP.
The problems started on Friday 11th April. The only possible issue I can identify is that around that time LogMeIn was updated on the server, including the LMIPrinter DLL's.  I have contacted Logmein for instructions on how to uninstall LMI completely
and followed these but am still experiencing the problem.
When attempting a Test Page print the confirmation that the Test Print has been sent to is displayed and the print appears then disappears in the Print queue but nothing appears on the Local PC print queue or event logs.
    On the server the Event Log shows the following error;
The document Test Page, owned by admin, failed to print on printer Canon MG7100 series Printer (redirected 2/copy 1). Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.
Data type: RAW. Size of the spool file in bytes: 142691. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client computer: \\ONESTAGE-TS01. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 2147500037. Unspecified
    error
I have searched for possible solutions to RDP printing problems and where relevant implemented them but no change.
I have access to a second customer who uses RDP and am able to log onto that and print to my local printer so am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the local printer or settings.  On the Server with the problem the problem affects all RDP users
and all printers (including Adobe PDF printer and MS XPS printer).  All printers are defaulting to the EasyPrint Drivers.
Grasping at straws I think the LMI update has banjaxed something with the RDP remote printing and an LMI uninstall hasn't fixed it.  Is there a way to reinstall the RDP Printing?  Would uninstalling & reinstalling .NET have that effect?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
What’s your client OS and RDP version in your environment?
First of all suggest you to run “sfc /scanow” with this link to check whether which file causing the issue. Check the RDP version on the RDP client computer as well as the .NET framework version with respect to the operating system used (as explained above).
Also verify that the RD Session Host / Terminal Server role is installed if the host computer is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008.
The setting “Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first” must be set to “Enabled” for Easy Print redirection, and it has to be “Disabled” for Legacy Print. For “Not configured”, Easy Print is chosen by default.
Check The Remote Desktop Configuration Tool (tsconfig.msc) settings to ensure that the “Windows Printer” option is not disabled (it is not disabled by default).
Make sure that the “Printers” check box in the client (mstsc.exe) window on the “Local Resources” tab is checked. The corresponding setting in the associated RDP file is “redirectprinters:i:1”.

  • Can't connect to my printer over network anymore

We upgraded to ox10.9 and since then we can't connect to the brother laser printer connected to our other computer. I went to brother's web site and downloaded the newest driver and now when I click on "add printer" it's not even there. I don't know what to do. I reset my printers and it's still not showing up... only if I connect it via a USB. Before 10.9 I could connect to the printer over bonjour because I was connected on my other lap top..
    any ideas?

I figured it out. I had to create a new location on both the Powerbook and G5 and click "Apply Now". Then the PB showed up as a server on the G5.

  • HT3049 Why do I keep getting "Connection failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME" when trying to print on Windows networked printer over wi-fi?

Why do I keep getting "Connection failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME" when trying to print on Windows networked printer over wi-fi?

If I run the following (on the machine I'm trying to set up the share)
    smbclient -L localhost -U%
    I got the following output
Connection to localhost failed (Error NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED)
so I thought it might be something incorrect with the iptables side of things, however I haven't really touched that at all and it seems to look correct
    iptables -nvL
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT 667 packets, 79977 bytes)
pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination
Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT 0 packets, 0 bytes)
pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination
Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT 157 packets, 20724 bytes)
pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination
So from my (very little) knowledge this appears correct (I think)... However it appears that something is blocking access somewhere.

  • Before I had Mavericks I was able to print over the network to a Windows PC. Now I receive the message, "connection refused." Any ideas?

Before I upgraded to Mavericks, I was able to print over the network to a printer attached to a Windows PC. Now, I receive the message, "connection refused." any ideas as to why this may be and what I can do about it would be appreciated.

I had reconfigured all of the settings the same as in the previous OS X. The only thing I can think of that may be causing this is that the printer is an older Canon Pixma iP4300 and the Canon site doesn't have a driver for the new OS X. The Canon site said that the new OS X may supply the driver. Is there any one with the same experience as mine?

  • CallManager Attendant Console over WAN connection

Does anyone know if it is possible to run Attendant Console over the WAN. I have a branch office that I would like to install AC, but I cannot seem to get the Call Control layer up when I start the AC gui.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
The use of the Attendant Console outside of the central site can require a considerable amount of bandwidth if the remote sites must access large user account directories without caching them.
-Apart from IP Phone requirements , AC needs Jtapi messages communications
-Line State Updates..It depends on number of phones which change line state at a given time ..TCD server sends this as UDP packets..And how many of these are listed on the console directory/speed dial at a given
    time..
Say we have 10 phones getting a new call at a time and for of these are listed on Console , we will get line state for 4 phones.
-At each login , the console connects to server and checks if userlist file has changed and if changed it downloads the same..Workaround is to have local copy of this file
But this is usually a one time step per login session.
Regarding your question, it should work, verify that no ACLs, FW or other network device is blocking traffic from|to CCM and AC console|IP Phone.
You may check this link to verify configuration is fine.
    AC user password (12345)
    PP|IP Phones associations

  • How do I make my printer more secure while connected via USB to my Airport?

So a neighbor (a friend, fortunately) accidentally installed my printer on her computer via the network (her computer showed it as a 'Bonjour' printer) and started printing stuff, even though my printer is connected to an encrypted Airport Extreme.
My printer (an old HP deskjet 5550) is connected via USB to my Airport Extreme, which has a WPA2 secure password protecting it. Also, the "Share this printer" box was unchecked in the printer utility.
The DSL lines for me and my 20 condo neighbors all convene in the basement somewhere into one or several master routers.
I'm concerned about this breach of security (obviously) and wondering about security of my iMac as well. The iMac is connected to the base station wirelessly and has the firewall set to 'Set access for specific services and apps'.
I figured if the Airport Extreme has the WPA2 password set (and no one else knows the password) that no one would be able to gain access to the printer that is wired to it, or the iMac that's wirelessly connected.
What am I missing? How did this happen? and what can I do to ensure my network isn't visible or vulnerable to my neighbors or others with bad intent?

are there settings in the airport utility that you can adjust to make it unshareable from the router?
The "bonjourness" of the access to your printer suggests that your firewall is probably doing its job.
If your DSL connection is connected to the WAN port on the AE then the folks on the DSL side of your set up should only be able to see things on your LAN that you've set for 'access from the internet'. e.g. allow access to my printer/disk/... from the internet.
For printers there's an airport utility setting 'share printers over ethernet WAN port' and 'advertise printers globally using bonjour'. How's that set?

  • Mapping Printer into Azure Session using RDP

    Hi all,
we have deployed a virtual machine in Azure and installed Applications. We are accessing the VM using RDP and I have tried to map the local Printers but it doesnt work. How can we map local Printers to an Azure VM.
    Cheers

You need to establish hybrid network connectivity to the VM on cloud to map the local printers. Again, I am not sure if you will be able to get it working correctly with point to site connection. Most likely you will need a site to site hybrid network connectivity
    for this to work.
Another option is you could try is to share the printer over remote desktop session and try to invoke the print while your remote desktop connection is active.
