Optimize Scanned PDF mangles the PDF

Using this option with deskew selected duplicates the middle of the PDF and places it at the bottom, making the the PDF deskewed but useless. I have tried this multiple times and the result is always the same (Acrobat Pro v9.10)
Is anyone else experiencing this?
JKB

I have this same EXACT problem.  Why doesnt adobe address this issue right away?  Why are things getting worst and worst as adobe releases versions of adobe acrobat pro.  I did not have this problem for Adobe acrobat pro 8.
Since deskewing is a very prominent feature in acrobat and used alot, adobe should fix this problem asap.

  • Locking down the Optimize Scanned PDF checkbox

    Hello,
Is there a way to grey out or lockdown the "Optimize Scanned PDF" option when Creating a pdf from a scanner? I can't seem to find if there is a registry key or location for this option.
Also where does Acrobat store the "Defaults" for these presets? Also this is Adobe Acrobat 11.

  • Is 'Optimize Scanned PDF' available in Acrobat X Standard?

Can anyone with Acrobat X Standard tell me whether the 'Optimize Scanned PDF' option is available?  We have need to buy a new license and this is one feature that we use, but I can't determine whether this feature is available in Standard or if I would need to buy the Pro version.  Thanks!

Yes, Optimize Scanned PDF comes with Acrobat Standard also.

  • "Optimize Scanned PDF" to shrink filesize

It works great! But I have about a terabyte's worth of PDFs that were accidentally scanned as grayscale and I need to optimize away the huge file sizes. Is there any way I can programmatically run this operation on multiple files? Perhaps an API that gives me access to the functionality of "Optimize Scanned PDF"?

I am looking for the same thing, I have seen screenshots of Acrobat 7 Pro that has "scanned pages" within PDF Optimizer.
However Acrobat 8 Pro which i have doesn't seem to have any option for "optimize scanned pages" under the batch processing tool, even under "output options>pdf optimizer" where I would expect for it to be, or under preflight.

  • Optimize Scanned PDF in batch mode?

I see 'OCR' as an option for batch commands, but there's no 'Optimize Scanned PDF'. Yes I can call the Optimizer in the Output options, but it doesnt reduce the file size like like 'Optimize Scanned PDF' does. I've tried different settings in the Optimizer but I cant come up with whatever 'Optimize Scanned PDF' does.
I cant understand why Adobe did not put this command as an option to run in batch mode.
Is there any way to run this command through Javascript? I'm trying different options.

Acrobat 9 Pro and Pro Extended offer "Optimize Scanned PDF" as an "out of the box" sequence.
There's no Adobe JavaScript mechanism for this.
    Be well...

  • OPTIMIZE SCANNED PDF PROBS Acrobat Pro 9

"Optimize Scanned PDF" option under DOCUMENT seems to do a great job, only problem is that it seems to take parts of the document and overlap itself. The source PDF is fine. But the result always have these overlaps.
The only way I can describe it is that after optimization it looks like when 2 pages feed in a fax or copier machine and you get part of one document over the other. This happens with single and multipage PDFs. Anybody know how to fix this??

Thanks apangasa, but the link you provided is for the Windows version.
"*Acrobat X Pro is available as a software trial for Windows® users only. A trial version of Acrobat X Pro for Mac OS is currently not available. However, the full version of Acrobat X Pro for Mac OS is available for purchase."
Not sure I want to buy something without the opportunity to test it, especially with all the problems I've had. But if the reports are that it solves issues with 9, I might bite the bullet. I guess, depending on the retailer, I could return it if the issues persist.

  • Automation of optimize scanned pdf

    Hi,
We have a requirement of compressing pdfs using Acrobat. We used to do it manually with an action by invoking "Optimize Scanned PDF". However since the amount of pdf to be compressed has grown exponentially we are planning to automate this task. Is there any way of achieving this like from IAC or through any programming language without human intervention.Or do I need any other software/plugin to achieve this task
    Thanks

No answer ?? At least any suggestions would be helpful ..

  • Optimize scanned PDF for ONLY PDF FILES in a folder?

Using the Action Wizard to batch optimize scanned documents.  When selecting a folder, how can we only optimize the PDF files and skip over conversion of all other file types (JPG, TIF, DOC)?  Currently it is converting all files in the folder to PDF, but we only want to optimize the ones which are already PDF.
    Thanks!
    ATC

Figured that would be the only choice... I will use Robocopy to copy the entire folder structure and only *.pdf files, then optimize, then copy back and overwrite existing files.  Hopefully Adobe will have a way to filter filetypes in their next release.

  • Optimize Scanned PDF Options

    Hi
I am scanning large A1 documents as colour PDFs and I need to reduce the filesize and also clean up the image by removing all the background noise in the image but keeping the detail. I used the optimize pdf function on the old version of Acrobat I had which was 7. Now I am upgraded to 10 these options are no longer working for me. I am not getting a reduced filesize and I no longer get a nice white background when optimizing. It seems a few crucial options are missing from the settings in Acrobat 7. Background removal is set to high but it just isn't working. For now I am stuck with using the reduce filesize save option which doesn't reduce it enough or remove the background noise. Can anyone help?
    Steve

These are the settings from Acrobat 7 I am trying to replicate:
    Images Tab: Nothing Enabled
Scanned Pages Tab: Optimize compression of pages - Ticked (Full High Quality Setting)
    Deskew - Automatic
    Background Removal - High
    Edge Shadow Removal - Cautious
    Despeckel - Medium
    Descreen - Automatic
    Halo Removal - On
    Fonts Tab: Nothing Enabled
Transparency Tab: Flatten Transparency - NOT Ticked
Discard Objects Tab: Discard All Alternate Images - Ticked
Clean Up Tab: Object Compression Options - Compress Document Structure selected
Use Flate to encode streams that are not encoded - Ticked
In streams that use LZW encoding, use Flate instead - Ticked
    Remove invalid bookmarks - Ticked
    Remove invalid links - Ticked
Remove unreferenced named destinations - NOT Ticked
Optimize the PDF for fast web view - Ticked

  • How do I reduce the size of a scanned PDF file?

I scanned a document from my HP Printer to a thumb drive.  The document is too large to email.  I need to reduce the size to make it possible to email it.  I can't find anything in the Tutorials or Manual on how to do that.  Does anyone know?

Save As Other>Reduce PDF File or Optimize PDF. The latter gives more control. The basic process for a scanned PDF is to reduce the pixel resolution that both of these process try to do. Sometimes the file actually gets bigger because of the processing (can't explain that). Also, when you save use Save As, not Save. Save retains any changes that are made.
You might also consider doing OCR with the ClearScan option (the searchable formats will not reduce size), but then have to deal with potential error corrections in the OCR.
Hopefully I have not confused the issue with the side comments.

  • How can I change the file version for scanned PDFs to 1.4 when using the "PDF from Scanner" feature from Acrobat XI? By default it's always saved as 1.5.

Because our IT system can only handle PDFs with versions up to 1.4, we need to "PDF from scanner" feature to store the scanned PDFs in version 1.4.
Acrobat 9 always saved it in 1.4, but starting with Acrobat X, the PDFs are saved in 1.5.
There must be a setting or configuration somewhere where I can change this.
I already tried modifying the distiller's standard joboptions, but that did not work.
    Thanks for any help

We use in our software an open-source pdf library that only supports pdf versions up to 1.4. I know it is old, but it's not that simple to exchange it.
But I just had a look into the Actions as you suggested. This way I get it to work. It costs one additional click, so that's acceptable.
    Thanks for the support.

  • While editing a scanned pdf, Acrobat will not recognize the current font & change to very different font. How can I choose the font I want to match the current document?

While editing a scanned pdf, Acrobat will not recognize the current font & change to very different font. How can I choose the font I want to match the current document?

Thanks for answering. The version is XI.0.10. I just did the update yesterday hoping that I could now properly edit a scanned pdf document. Yes, it's happening on most all scanned documents. I followed your steps & found the list of fonts used in the document & then attempted to edit. The same occurs. When I type in a correction, I get an error alert... "the original font (in this case Fd 5805) is not available or can't be used in editing. Acrobat is using the font Minion Pro in its place."
When I select the text & right click as you suggested, my only choices are cut, copy, delete or select all, no "edit text".
I have no other options to choose another font. Thanks for any help you can direct my way.

  • How can I change the page size of a scanned PDF document?

How can I change the page size of a scanned PDF document?
I scanned a 50-page document with an HP 5610xi All-In-One using the software that comes with it: HP Scan Pro. Though the physical document has standard 8.5" x 11" pages, the PDF resulting from scanning has page size set to 35.42 × 48.67 inches (according to Preview's "Tools > Inspector". I want to resize the pages to 8.5" x 11". Shouldn't Preview be able to do that with "Tools > Adjust Size..."? When I try, the menu option is grey so I can't select it.
    I'm using Preview Version 4.2.

Thanks for the insight; that explains why it's the wrong size. I selected 300dpi scanning (which is the default, actually), but HP Scan Pro evidently created a PDF with 72dpi indicated. I want it fixed because I want to distribute the file to other people and have them able to print or display it without problems.
I still don't know why Preview won't let me change it, but your question about whether I wanted to print it did lead me to find a workaround: "File > Print" and "Save as PDF..." saved it with the correct page size.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 plus I create PDF files for work some are scan pdf docs. When I install Photoshop Elements 10 it DOES convert all the PDF files to Photoshop Elements-10 Docs. it even changes and shows the PSE-10 Icon. So I am alway installing PSE-10 or uninstalling it. If I send the  PDF file that has been automatically converted to a PSE-10 the person I send the file to can not open it because they do not have PSE-10. What can I do to stop PSE-10 from converting my PDF files? Don't tell me to upgrade PSE-10 I tried their on-line program and  it is too advance for a hobby photographer like myself and their Help Desk is impossible to reach.

  • How can users who have Acrobat Reader only save scanned pdf files so that the text on them is searchable using ctrl-F?  I just use the recognize text with ocr feature in the full version of Acrobat and this seem to do the trick. Reader doesn't work!

Our users have scanned pdf files they want to be able to search using ctrl-f.  I got them to be searchable by doing a recognize text using ocr with Acrobat Professional vesion 8.  They want to know if they can make the files searchable with Acrobat Reader only or if they need the full Acrobat Professional software to make the files searchable.
    Thanks for the help!!
    Ken K. - 2191

To clarify a bit they need to have Adobe Acrobat, not Adobe Reader. Reader has not been associated with the Acrobat name for 3 or more versions. The process you are asking about is a creation process - the purpose of Acrobat - and NOT a reading feature.
