"Optimize video for IOS" in Keynote doesn't appear to work

I am trying to add video clips (.mov files from my Aperture library) into a Keynote presentation for later use on an iPad.  When I do so by dragging from Aperture to Keynote, with the "Optimize for IOS" box in Keynote Preferences checked as is recommended in the article "HT6153: Keynote for Mac: Optimizing your presentation for iOS compatibility" a blank slide is added to Keynote. When I click on the slide & look at the file info under "Movie", it indicates that there is an .m4v file in the blank space.
If I do the same operation with the box unchecked, a slide with the .mov file is added & can be viewed both on my Mac mini & on my iPad (via iCloud).
Am I missing something or is this a bug?

My video files are in an Aperture library.  Looking at the file info provided in Aperture, it says that the video files are already H.264 format, but 1080p resolution not 720p as indicated is optimum in the Keynote Preferences>Generel>Adding Movies checkbox.  There is no CODEC info that I can find.
The thing that is confusing is that if I start with the box not checked & drag a video file into Keynote, a message pops up that says I should check the box.  When I do that, the file that I dragged in continues to display correctly, but subsequent files do not.  If I uncheck the box, any file that I drag in displays correctly.  Any file that displays correctly on my Mac mini also works on my iPad.
Since things seem to work if I ignore the error message, I am inclined to leave well-enough alone & not to go thru the delete-reinstall process, unless you think that there is a good reason to do so.

  • "Look for Apple TV" preference doesn't appear to work

    Have just set up Apple TV for a friend, without realising the HD is only 40gb. As a result his music and photos have instantly filled the HD and it seems to be constantly trying to sync (or at least the spinning arrows beside the Apple TV in the devices list won't go away)
    To solve the problem until I next get over there, I suggested he merely uncheck "look for Apple TVs" in his iTunes preferences, but the TV still comes up under the list of devices every time he opens iTunes. I have also got him to uncheck the option for synching music and photos in the tabs of his Apple TV device
    Any assistance most appreciated
    Kind Regards

    Chances are it's your internet connection.
    If you can play things under the Computers tab from your local itunes library without issues then your LAN is likely to be fine.
    AppleTV2  does not play well with slow/variable interent connections for rentals.
    Basically it calculates how much needs to download to flash memory to allow continuous playback without interruption at the rate your internet connection is delivering - if this rate drops due to more users in your area or perhaps throttling of bandwidth by your ISP then the calculation will be wrong and movies will stop/start.
    If you simply have a slow connection, then you have to wait for much of the movie to download first, this may take some hours.  On AppleTv1 the presence of an internal drive made this much more robust as the movie would stay on the unit until the rental/view period had expired.  It might take hours to download (so rent in advance of viewing) but once it was there it would stay until expiration.  AppleTV2 however does not retain the download and often if you restart the film it has to start downloading from scratch which I think is crazy.
    Please send feedback here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
    I wish they had the option to 'lock the download in memory' until viewed or deleted - this would limit you to 1 HD movie rental at a time in order to keep enough free for other tasks/local streaming usage, but would make the device far more practical for slow connections.
    You should test your internet connection at say speedtest.net on the computer.
    Just as estimates I'd say:
    1Mbps - probably 12 hours+ to start watching HD, less for SD
    3-4Mbps - 20-30 mins to start watching HD, within a minute for SD  (my speed)
    8Mbps+ - watch within a few seconds
    If you go to Settings and in iTunes store options change to SD from HD you may find you can watch far quicker with any new rentals, but if you want HD it defeats the purpose.

    I just upgraded my Internet service to 12 MPS. It doesn't appear to work any faster than the 3MPS I had before. The AT&T guy said it may be the computer rather than the connection. I have an iMac intel core 2 duo, running OS 10.5.8. It has 1 GB of memory. I have plenty of memory left. Is there something I can check on the computer to see if it's capable of running faster with this new Internet upgrade?

    You certainly are going to see improvements if you download big files, i.e. Apple updates, or watching trailers also at higher resolution.
    You won't see much difference if you use peer to peer download.

  • Where is the optimize video for iMovie 10??

    Hi,
    I have HV20 HDV camcorder with bunch of older tapes.  I had iMovie (8 or 9) before where I used to get specific options for importing the tapes.
    For example, I could choose save location, add to or create new event, split days into new events, and optimize video.
    Now under the new iMovie 10, I don't see most of the above options.  And before you say use the older iMovie, I've looked under the application folder and I can't find the older iMovie folder.. Just the new version 10...
    So I Need the:
    1. Split days as new event
    2. Optimize video option. (So that I can make sure I'm importing the maximum quality/ full/original size not a lower bit rate.)  How do I know the new iMovie is importing the highest quality and not downsampling as the older iMovie had other bitrate options..
    Please tell me where I can find the older iMovie 9 to download and install (again, I can't find it in my application folder), or tell me where I can find those options in the new versions.
    Thank you

    I agree but it's not there...
    I know what it should do but the reality is something else at this point.
    Any other suggestions?
    Do you know if iMovie 10 just imports at the highest possible resolution? I don't know why iMovie 9 had the option and now the new one doesn't...

  • AIR for iOS 3.1 - App name no longer working?

    I have named my app "Someapp 123" and mysteriously the app continuously drops the "123" portion of the name. It used to appear just fine.
    Yesterday I noticed AIR3.1 was released and I overlayed that. Has anyone else overlayed AIR3.1? Notice your app name not completely working?
    FWIW it is an iPad-only app. The provision clearly states the name of the app is "Someapp 123". In AIR for IOS settings I have the "App Name" parameter set properly as well.

    My app name is a small word with a number after it, e.g. "Some 123". No ampersands or anything fancy.
    I did not know that it republished the XML if I published from the iOS panel but I even see hitting "OK" in that panel re-writes the XML file (because you need to put a password in for the p12 every time before publishing) and that overwrites it.
    I edited the re-created XML file, removed junk whitespace and changed my app name to a single word "Testapp". I publish with alt+shift+f12 typically which is the same as the file menu. I hit file->Publish anyhow and I can verify yes indeed it did not overwrite my XML file. Unfortunately the app was not named "Testapp", it was still named what I had named the SWF file. I verified the XML was not overwritten and it was not.
    I noticed there's a <name> and also a <filename>. The <filename> does not have SWF applied to it and there is also an attribute <content> which actually points to the SWF. I'm not sure why both <filename> and <content> exists but I went and changed the <filename> to the app title I wanted. So both <name> and <filename> are now "Testapp". I published with file->publish and low and behold, the name of the app is now "Testapp".
    Why would flash choose to use <filename> over <name>?
    Here is a full example of my XML file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no" ?>

    Anything in there seem odd? Again I'm using the AIR 3.1 SDK so I'm using that namespace. Anything I put in <filename> is now the app name, however in iTunes it continues to say "Unknown Ge..." which is pretty unprofessional. Although the icon works fine. When syncing I see the value in the <filename> field, as it will say "Syncing Testapp...".

  • IMR Doesn't Appear to Work

    All,
              One machine running netscape and proxy. All requests are forwarded to
              the cluster. Two machines, one WL instance per. WL 510 SP4. All URLs
              go through NS/proxy.
              I can see the proxy round-robin the requests to the cluster, but IMR
              doesn't appear to be working. I've set the following cluster props:
              weblogic.httpd.clustering.enable=true
              weblogic.httpd.session.persistence=true
              weblogic.httpd.session.persistentStoreType=replicated
              When a user logs in on the first server, a session is created. The
              next request seems to be proxied to the second server and, since the
              session doesn't exist on the second server, my application returns a
              UserNotAuthenticatedException. If IMR was working it seems the
              original log in request that caused the session to be created would be
              replicated to the secondary server, but it's apparently not working.
              I'm obviously missing something. I'm suspicious of the NS/proxy config
              for some reason, but I haven't verified that setup yet. Any ideas are

    Jason,
              This is a doc bug.
              I will ask our docs team to correct it.
              Currently all WLS's in a cluster should be listening on the same port
              number.
              We are planning to add this feature in the next major release.
              i.e. WLS's can listen on different ports in a cluster.

  • SunOneDS-5.2 bind authmethod=ssl doesn't appear to work

    Having set up DS-5.2 with SSL + allow user authentication + user entry with (binary) certificate + certmap.conf setup for user cert CA cert + ACI entry with bind rule set to
    allow (all) (userdn = ....) and (authmethod="ssl")
    client connections ARE authenticated by client certificate when passed.
    However, if the client binds with bindDN=userdn in ACI, but NOT using either a certificate nor SSL connection, the associated search request is still allowed. In other words, it appears that the "authmethod=ssl" bind rule HAS NO AFFECT!? Other ACI's on the entry deny anonymous access and allow other groups without SSL.
    The SunOneDS-5.2 Administration Guide states for authmethod="ssl",
    SSL - The client must bind to the directory over a Secure Sockets
    Layer (SSL) or Transport Layer Security (TLS) connection
    but this doesn't appear to be working in forcing an SSL bind/connection.
    It is also interesting to note that the client certificate is offered at the LDAP connection step and not at the LDAP bind step and that a subsequent bind appears to be necessary to properly affect a subsequent search. That is, with the above ACI bind rule, connect with certificate over SSL but bind as annonymous and the search fails. ANY connection with proper bindDN and bindPW satisfies the ACI and the search succeeds.
    The intention is to FORCE SSL connections for certain subtrees where the LDAP server ALSO allows NON-SSL connections for OTHER subtrees. A secondary desire is to allow SSL + certificate authentication to provide the forced SSL connection and user binding without requiring a subsequent bindDN and bindPW.
    An example of SSL + certificate connection + full user binding is:
    conn=30 op=-1 msgId=-1 - SSL 128-bit RC4; client 0.9.2342.19200300.100.1.4=Personal/User SSL Certificate, CN=......., OU=......, O=...., L=...., ST=...., C=..; issuer 0.9.2342.19200300.100.1.4=localnet10 SSL only CA Certificate, CN=SSLonlyCA, OU=......., O=..., L=...., ST=..., C=..
    conn=30 op=-1 msgId=-1 - SSL client bound as uid=NEngineer1,ou=People,o=..,c=..
    conn=30 op=0 msgId=1 - BIND dn="uid=NEngineer1,ou=People,o=..,c=.." method=128 version=3
    conn=30 op=0 msgId=1 - RESULT err=0 tag=97 nentries=0 etime=0 dn="uid=nengineer1,ou=people,o=..,c=.."
    conn=30 op=1 msgId=2 - SRCH base="o=..,c=.." scope=2 filter="(dc=.............)" attrs="dn ........."
    conn=30 op=1 msgId=2 - RESULT err=0 tag=101 nentries=1 etime=

    Corrected - what was needed was a bind rule, boolean change from "and" to "or":
    (targetattr = "*") (version 3.0;acl "DENY all but Network Administrators access";deny (all)(groupdn != "ldap:///cn=Network Administrators,ou=Groups,o=xx,c=xx")or(authmethod!="ssl");)

  • Optimize video for iWeb

    Earlier tonight I created my first vlog in iMovie. Originally, I used the "Share > iWeb" menu item to export my video, and was pleased to see a page waiting for me in iWeb with my movie already placed in it.
    However, when I published this 10 Mb beast, I was surprised to see the big blue Quicktime Q sitting where my (I thought) streaming video was supposed to be. So I waited, and waited, even on broadband. Eventually the movie appeared with controls to press play.
    I like Q as much as the next letter of the alphabet, but I wanted streaming video. I'd like to see iLife/iWeb support this in future releases/updates. For now, however, you can create a good streaming presentation by using the "File > Export" menu item, then choosing "Expert" from the "Compress movie for:" drop down menu. Click Share, and in the next dialogue box, click the "options" button next to the "Export" field. Once you do this, you can set your movie's size, audio quality, and most importantly, you can check the "prepare for internet streaming" box and select "Fast Start" or "Fast Start - Compressed Header". Incidentally, this also reduced the file size of my movie from 10 megs to 3.4... and the quality appeared to be about the same on playback.
    I say good instead of great streaming presentation because although I've used this method recently to create streaming video that auto-starts like Apple's movie trailers do (like it's supposed to do in Quicktime), video in iWeb does not auto-start as soon as enough of the video is downloaded to begin. The user still has to click play. But at least they get visual feedback... they see a play button and can track the download. Without a "please wait" disclaimer (and don't we all love those) that big blue Q, especially on a 10 Mb movie file, is just going to leave people thinking there's nothing to see and moving on. Even on broadband.

    oh how smug i was when after uploading my 10mb monster and looking at a big blue Q, realised an export option was compression for streaming exactly like yourself.
    was most disappionted when it made no difference, hope apple change that soon as the movie was the best bit of my site!

  • Can I use my PC to Optimize Video for iMovie?

    I use a GoPro camera which creates mp4 files and I find it takes hours for iMovie to optimize 4hrs worth of files. I'd like to off-load some of the processing to my PC. Run it over-night. Whatever...
    Is there any way to use the PC version of MPEG Streamclip to do this? I don't see the AIC codec in the export list on the PC. So I'm guessing that since it's not a compatible PC format, they intentionally left it off the list.
    Any ideas, on how to leverage my available PC computing power, would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in adavnce.

    Well, I was trying to find a way to speed up the whole optimizing process by dividing the work load to many computers so that I could get to the editing process quicker. I suspect that MPEG Streamclip will convert at about the same speed as iMovie. Having said that, there might be a time advantage of using MPEG Streamclip by choosing selected clips vs doing the whole thing. The problem being, if you decide that you wanted a bit more of a clip from the original footage, you'd have to re-convert the whole clip. I'd have to weigh those options.
    Either that or do all the conversions over night and do editing the next day.

  • Quicktime video for .mov files on Windows 8.1 not working

    I am using the latest Quicktime (v7.7.5) on a new install of Windows 8.1 and .mov files will play but only the audio works - there is no video.  Clearly There is a video codec missing.  Can someone at apple tell me what I need so quicktime (and other applications) can play .mov videos on Windows 8.1?
    Thank you!!!

    Hey Kirk,  thank you for your reply. All my windows media players (Windows, Quicktime, Pinnacle Sudio, etc..all  only play the audio and not the video.  The quicktime player on Windows recogizes a problem and suggests that I goto this website (www.apple.com/quicktime/rescources/components......) and download missing somftware (but gives no indication of what is missing :-)).
    So the Windows Quicktime Player shows that the .mov file is made with the Apple Intermediate Codec, 1308 x 736, Millions 16 bit Integer (little Indidan), Sterdo(LR), 48kHz.   I also looked at the inspector in the Mac.
    This is clearly the issue. I suppose I can always use my Mac to convert files to something more compatible with windows and then move these files.  I just find it hard to believe that Apple does not have a windows 8.x version of this codec.

  • How to export photos with titles in chronological order. Checking box for title and keyword doesn't seem to work

    I want to export a group of JPEG photos including titles in the order in which they were taken.  Checking the box to include titles and key words seems not to work.

    You can not
    exporting creates files - files have no order - the order is set by the program you use to view them - for example in the finder you can view files by the date created, date modified, size, alpha, etc
    So to control the order when viewing in the finder you must have an attribute that the finder can sort on set - the most common way to export photos in a specific order is to make an album in iphoto in the order you want and then export the album using the sequential naming option of the export command - then view them in the finder using a alpha sort - Exporting From iPhoto
    However since you want to retain your existing title that will not work for you
