Optimizing Hyperion Essbase on AIX

Hello all! We have just changed the production server for our databases. After this migration, our system administrator noticed that the essbase server process ESSSVR, when running calculations is taking system time in system mode, not in user mode. He recommended that the solution would be to cluster the application on HACMP/IBM. Has anyone any idea how that can be done ? We are using Hyperion Essbase 6.5.4.2 on AIX 5.2. Thanks a lot, Chris

I future any connectivity issue will occur with two different bit type or there will no issue.

ODI 11.1.1.5 IKM SQL to Hyperion Essbase (DATA) ERROR

I'm loading data from Oracle database table "nbkr_source" to Essbase database nbkr.bdr using IKM SQL to Hyperion Essbase (DATA).
I'm using the interface which successfully loading data into Essbase in ODI 10.1.3.5, but this interface doesn't work in ODI 11.1.1.5...
The error appears on the step 6: "load data into essbase":

Hyperion Essbase 9.3.x RAM Requirements

Dears,
What are total RAM requirements of Hyperfine Essbase 9.3.x?
According to the 93_support_matrices.pdf Hyperion essbases requests the following RAM:
1.5 GB Hyperion License Server
1.5 GB Shared Services
1.0 GB Analytic Services
What RAM should we have installed on our Linux Red Hat server?
Minimum? Optimal?

Minimum requirements for Hyperion 9.3 is 4 Gigs of RAM regardless of the OS and will, ideally, support your development environment and a small amount of concurrent production users.
8 Gigs detected to Hyperion services and applications is recommended. This would be very likely to support your development environment and would probably support 50 named users - of course, highly dependant on your environment and other potential interference such as hardware and software configurations, document sizes, application server installation etc.
Like any other application, the more RAM the better but pay attention to the maximums for the services. Some services will only utilize 2 Gigs of RAM so they would have to be duplicated to take advantage of 4 Gigs. The duplication process is very simple and Hyperion manages the load balancing effectively and efficiently.

Hyperion Environment on AIX

Hi Friends
We are planning to move from Windows to AIX.We are planning to install all the components compatible with AIX on AIX machines rest on Windows(If any).
We use Essbase, planning and FR.
Is there any drawbacks with pushing all the Hyperion components to AIX.
What is the recommended architecture.
Please suggest

I wouldn't say drawbacks but a totally different skillset is needed to manage a system running on AIX than windows, if you have the skills available then it is not a problem.
The architecture can depend on your requirements and not something you can give a quick answer over a forum, I recommend getting someone in to discuss your options.

Hyperion Essbase Error: 1002097 Unable to load database [PlanType1]

Hello,
I am running Hyperion Essbase 9.2.0.3 version. This has happened 3 times now since last 2 weeks. I had to restore the APP folder from previous backup.
The message that i see is Error: 1002097 Unable to load database [PlanType1]
I have searched google and no luck. Anyone knows how to fix this or why we get this message. I don't want to restore from backup everytime.

Unable to load data to Essbase (IKM SQL to Hyperion Essbase (DATA)

I'm trying to load data to Hyperion Essbase. Unfortunately it isn't going so well. I've followed the instructions but I keep getting this "BUFFER_SIZE" error. I haven't changed the default BUFFER_SIZE (it is set at <Default>:80) and I haven't changed any other parameters in the KM.
Appreciate any thoughts...

Yes! That's great but I'm not out of the woods yet. I had applied the patch incorrectly before -- I'd extracted it to the wrong directory. Now I get this new error: Missing standard dimension column for data load
Any thoughts on how to get by this one?

Odi 11g - IKM SQL to Hyperion Essbase (DATA) log file always empty

In odi 11g when using *"IKM SQL to Hyperion Essbase (DATA)"* setting the the "LOG_ENABLED" = true,
only an empty file are generated.
Just "LOG_ERRORS" file (if errors occurs) are created.
Is this just an my issue?
Can someone help me?
p.s.: the same issue, I got even with the *"IKM SQL to Hyperion Planning"*

Hyperion Essbase QAT Menu with Excel 2007

I just upgraded to Hyperion Essbase 11.1.1.3 and I recently upgraded to Excel 2007. Moving to XL2007 made the Essbase add-in two levels deep in the ribbon so I wanted to move this to the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT). I found a great tool to develop QAT menus authored by [url http://www.rondebruin.nl/qat.htm]Ron Debruin.

Everything worked great for a few month for both myself and about 75 coworkers but once we upgraded to Essbase 11.1.1.3 from 7, the menu macros stopped working for almost everyone except for myself and a few others.
I set this macro in the xlstart folders so that it opens with excel. The QAT menu still appears for everyone, but when selecting any of the menu items to run, nothing runs.
Example: When running
Sub MyMacro21()
 Call EssMenuVConnect
End Subfrom the custom QAT menu, nothing happens. What should occur is a popup login for Hyperion. I've even tried to run the code outside of the QAT menu and it does not work so this leads me to believe something is wrong with my Hyperion code. Now mind you, this work fine on my machine.
I'm unable to determine the cause for the macro to not work. Any help or troubleshooting pointers would be appreciated.

Hi Mathieu,
As per support matrix documentation, Essbase 7.1.3 is not supported with Excel 2007.
You may have to upgrade to client version 7.1.6.7 which supports Excel 2007.

I do not think wired will even work with the 6.x runtimes. Your only real option is to put off the move untill you can manage the a6.5 upgrade.

Hyperion Essbase 9 and database.mdb

Hi all, I have installed Hyperion Essbase 9
- Hyperion essbase 9 server
- Hyperion essbase 9 administration services
- Hyperion essbase 9 cliend add-in for excell
Now i want do olap analysis on a database foodmart.mdb. I have problem to load it on essbase server. I can create only new db.

Of the 24 tables in your Access, not all have data in . You might need to code SQL to pull the required data or make one smart data source file to load it into the cube .For that one needs to know what exactly the final presentation of your reports would look . I see few tables are just meant for description and other tables have data . Firstly,Request you to understand the essbase load process, which includes the campatible data sources and their formats .
As Andy suggested , DBAG or essbase tutorial is a good option . "SQL interface " documentation along with all Hyperion documentation can be found in the following URL

Unable to Obtain a Connection to Hyperion Essbase from Planning Application

Dear All,
I have installed FDM+Foundation+HFM+Essbase+Planning 11.1.1.3 (Tomcat)
I have stacked with the following problem:
when I try to open my data form, I am getting
“Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If this problem persists, please contact your administrator”
Validate Database Connection & Validate Essbase Connection are successful throw Manage Data Source menu
Essbase user has admin privileges
In EAS console I can make myself sure, that my application is running
Data Form is valid (verified in Preview screen in Data Form wizard)
Can somebody help me with it?

Summary
Symptoms
When attempting to connect to Hyperion Planning as the admin user, the following error occurs:
Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If the problem persists, please contact your administrator'
Cause
Hyperion Planning web accesses the application by making a connection to the Planning metadata in the relational repository (via Relational repository settings) and also to Essbase via the datasource settings.
Any Essbase connection issues indicate problems with the Essbase settings in the datasource or are related to the Essbase server.
Solution
- Edit the datasource via the Configuration Utility.
- Test the Essbase connection and make sure that the user used to make the connection is valid and has admin rights to Essbase.
- Restart the Hyperion Planning service once the Essbase user has been given the correct access rights.
- Login to the Essbase Administration Services (EAS) console and right click on the Essbase server name node -> Refresh security from Shared Services
- Expand the applications node (under the Essbase server name node) and check that there is an application with exactly the same name as the Planning application.
Note: Go to section 'manually recreating a Planning application in Hyperion Essbase, if the Planning application is missing in the above step.
- Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web.
Manually recreating a Planning application in Essbase:
- Login to the EAS console as admin (the Essbase user used by admin must have Essbase administrator rights)
- Go to Essbase servers -> your Essbase server name -> right click on applications -> Create application -> Using Block Storage and enter the exact Hyperion Planning Application name then click on ok.
Note: The above step will only create the application shell without the databases.
- Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web as admin and go to Administration menu -> Manage Database -> select database and filters (to create filter access to Essbase) and Refresh (refresh will also recreate the databases if they don't exist)

Need urgent help on issue "An unknown CSS error occured" Hyperion Essbase

Hi guys
I am facing an issue while configuring Essbase 9.3.1. Everytime i tried to register Essbase(Server1) with Shared Services(Server2), i.e at the point where we enter Shared Services server, port, username, and password i am getting the following error.
"An unknown CSS error occured. please check the values you entered". I verified and gave all the values exactly. but same error....
please help me with your suggestions in resolving this issue.
