Optimizing Movies - every time I start up?

When I open iMovie I have to wait several minutes while I get 'Optimizing Movies - Processing Event: xxx'
I can deal with that if its a one off.
But this happens every time I launch iMovie. It never used to. Whats changed and how can I stop it?
I've tested this: Launch iMovie. Wait for optimizing movies to finish. Quit iMovie. Count to ten. Launch iMove. Same thing happens and it optimizes movies again...!?
Please help. As this is putting me off dipping in for a quick bit of family movie editing.

Could you be a little more specific
It's not my thread, but I thought I would add my observations here...
My events and films clips are also on an external drive, and iMovie would spend five minutes 'optimizing' them every time it launched.
Apparent answer:
1. Find events folder
2. Get info on folder, and click the unlock icon, entering password if necessary
3. In Sharing and Permissions, ensure everyone can Read & Write
4. From the cog-like button on the bottom of the Info window choose 'Apply to enclosed items'
5. Lock the folder again, and close the Info window
My next couple of launches have been optimization free.

did both as yo usuggested and it goes away while iTunes is up and running which is better than before.
However, when I restart iTunes it just comes back.

Address Book's window moves down 3 pixels every time you start the app.

I want to confirm that this is not an isolated issue and to make a bit more noise because Apple didn't fix this in the 10.5.3 update. The problem is that the Address Book's window moves down 3 pixels from it's previous position every time you start the app. This only happens if the Address Book window is sized vertically larger than minimum. Now, each time you quit and start Address book it will reposition it's window 3 pixels down. After some time and many Quit/Starts your window will end up at the bottom of your screen and even size itself down to vertical minimum. If you have it positioned so that the bottom of the window protrudes off the screen then it will continue until it reaches the top bar of the window. It's not a serious bug I know. But, for the way I use Address Book it's annoying to have to reposition it's window to align with my other apps which I have open aligned/arranged at startup. It's just that all the other Leopard apps don't do this. Maybe it's a feature added to avoid patent infringement. Who knows! Apple I know you have bigger fish to fry but would you please clean this up.
To test first start Address Book and size your Address Book window vertically larger than its smallest size. Now repeatedly quit and start the Address Book application. Watch your Address Book window migrate down 3 pixels from it's previous position every time you start. Have fun, watching Address Book falls from grace. Good thing it doesn't migrate off screen completely!

You are very wrong about that mystified. What do YOU think made my computer work without beeping at all hu? (I bet you're gonna tell me). I figured it out.

I upgraded to itunes 10.7.0.21 and now every time itunes starts it crashes within a few seconds!

I upgraded to itunes 10.7.0.21 and now every time itunes starts it crashes within a few seconds! I have uninstalled and re-installed and I get the same! I am running windows 7 64bit. The error window sais the fault is " KERNELBASE.dll". I also installed on a test PC that has a trail version of Windows Web Server 2008 R2 and the exact same thing happens...
Now I have no PC to sync to and no music/movies.... Any ideads??

I had the same problem. New iPhone 5, had to install iTunes 10.7 on windows 7 64 bit. The install worked, but it crashed immediatly after startup (no window, nothing.) I tried repairing the install, and still nothing. When I read the post above, I saw that it was Quicktime related, and remembered I was also prompted to upgrade Quicktime too, which I chose NOT to do. So I went back and upgraded quicktime.. and VOILA.. it WORKS. iTunes now runs, and I'm in the middle of restoring my old iPhone to my new one. (fingers crossed)

Itunes reconfigures every time i startit

I updated to itunes 11 and now every time I start itunes it is like a brand-new account, like using itunes for the first time, music gone, movies gone, playlists gone. I keep all my media on a supplemental hard drive, which I had configured on itunes 10 to find it there, and never had a problem since updating to itunes 11. I have over 30,000 songs and I have had to reload my itunes now 5 times. also, since updating, every time i try to sync my ipod it says it is not synced to this computer, would I like to wipe it clean and start over? Is there a known fix for this? Why is this happening?

in itunes 7.0.x, go "help > run diagnostics", select DVD/CD diagnostics and then hit Next.
in itunes 6.0.x or earlier, go "help > run CD diagnostics"

I know that
• Mac OS X.4.11 and iDVD 6.0.4 and QuickTime 7.5.5 works
But for Mac OS X.5.8 - I guess that QT 7.6 would work with iDVD 6.0.4

ITunes 7.0.1 hangs every time I start it

Ever since I upgraded iTunes from 6 to 7.0.1 it hangs every time I start it while it is "Determining Gapless Playback Information". It always hangs on the 19th song and I have to force quit iTunes just to be able to use my computer again. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I have managed to solve the problem. It seems that iTunes 7.0.1 is unable to play one album in my entire collection and it hangs if I try to have any songs from that album in my iTunes library. I managed to get iTunes working again by reimporting my iTunes library and then removing the offending album before it could get up to doing the gapless playback mojo on those tracks.
To reinstall the iTunes library
1- go to ~/Music/iTunes/
2- move iTunes Music Library.xml file to your desktop.
3- trash the iTunes Library file.
4- start up iTunes and go to ->File->Import and import the iTunes Music Library.xml file from your desktop.
Bare in mind if you have a big library that it will probably take a while to import your entire file list. Try removing the offending song from your iTunes library and see if it works.
Strangely, the offending mp3 files play fine if opened in Quicktime. It would seem that something to do with the files encoding is crashing iTunes gapless playback process.

I have my disks that came with my laptop I have went into disk utility to repair disk and I still seem to have the same problem .. No icons or apps or anything lol just the cursor I can only shut down the laptop via power but and the press shut down.

This can be used to boot the machine and delelte enough files to get it to boot normally.

Is it a USB hard drive? USB hard drives have the problem of not giving full speed if they are hooked up on the same bus as keyboards and mice. Double check your profiler to make sure that is not a problem. If it is Firewire, make sure there aren't other firewire devices in use at the same time. I recommend not only keeping a Time Machine backup, but also a clone, and if you do use Time Machine, to make sure the Time Machine drive or partition is at least twice the size of the original drive.

Each and every time I start up Photoshop CS6 (running the latest version I think....13.0.1 x64) on my Mac Running 10.7.5
the same document opens up. As if it thinks it crashed and needs to recover it. Im a member of Creative Cloud in case that matters.
I have saved the document and closed it properly and yet - it returns every time I start up the program. Can anyone help?
Its not a killer issue but extremely annoying.
