Optimizing PDF's LiveCycle ES 8.2

Hi
Is Livecycle ES 8.2 have feature to optimize pdf.
Shaji

It depends on your definition of optimizing.  If you mean optimize as in "save for fast webview," the information is in the DDX reference manual.
You can find it in the ES2 documentation under "saving PDF documents" on page 35&36.  The same information is available in the 8.2 livedocs.
If you're looking for another kind of optimization, just let us know.

  • Error Message when Optimizing PDF

I am working on a project in PowerPoint using text, shapes, and clipart.  I save that as a PDF and then open it in Adobe and then prepare to save it as an optimized PDF.  When saving, I get an error message "An error was encountered while processing images."  As a result, the file does not optimize nor save.  I can't figure out what is causing this to occur.  I have completely recreated this document from scratch, and the error message is still occurring.  What can I do to prevent this?

You can't directly open a Pages  (or Word) document and Excel and, its equivelent  Macintosh program  in Acrobat. That's true. In OSX.5.8 and lower and 9.2 and lower you can go to print menu and choose AdobePDF and print a PDF. Or simply use the Mac's PDF button in Print menu. Or Most programs will allow you to save as Post script by going through the print menu click on PDF button and choose create Postscript from PDF (I know it sounds stupid but that what Apple has it listed as. ) Then Drop the PS File on Distiller. or open with distiller.
ON OSX.6.x (Snow Leopard) all bets are off.
you need to read this link.
Note: to make sure that everything goes smooth locate Automator select, do get info (Command key-I) and change from 64 bit to 32 bit. Its seems based on info from Acrobat the automator action for Create adobe quality PDF Automator action

  • Save As Other - Optimized PDF error

I'm on OSX Mavericks, Acrobat XI.
I read the other forum called "Reduce file size Acrobat X" but couldn't find an answer to my specific issue.
Since upgrading to XI I've been unable to succesfully reduce the file size of a pdf. Here's my workflow:
    - I start by going to "Create > Combine files into a single PDF"
    - I'm creating a pdf of scanned documents (no fonts used) so I drag in the jpegs in and it successfully assembles a multipage pdf
    - I go to "Save As Other... > Optimized PDF..." and then make a few adjustments like lower the jpeg compression level and the DPI.
    - I then save the document and there is absolutely no change in the document size. It doesn't matter what settings I make, they don't seem to have any effect on the image sizes.
    - Another bug keeps occuring that may or may not be related. Every few days I see a popup window asking me to update Acrobat. When I check the Creative Cloud app it says that Acrobat XI is up-to-date. Is there any connection? How do I make that popup stop (it seems like a pre-CC style popup).
I've been using Acrobat Professional for more than a decade and never had any issues like this in the past.

Using Acrobat XI Pro you could try a workflow that uses an Acrobat Action.
    Be well...

  • Can't find Save As Optimized PDF in Acrobat X Standard.

I just bought and installed Acrobat X Standard, but cannot find the Save As > Optimized PDF option.  I have seen and used this option before in Acrobat X Pro, and it was one of the reasons I bought Acrobat for myself.  Adobe's own website says that this option is available in Acrobat X Standard.  My File > Save As menu has options to save as PDF, Reduced Size PDF, Certified PDF, Reader Extended PDF, and the other format options but no "Optimized PDF" option.
Does anyone know what might be going on here?  I've tried to look through Acrobat's Preferences to see if I missed something that would enable this option, but I haven't seen anything.  Can this be fixed?  I didn't fork over a bunch of money to have one of the few options I wanted not be available.  If not, is this grounds enough for me to get a refund?  I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Any idea what can I can expect if I try to explain this to Adobe Customer Service?  I bought the software as a download from Amazon, which will not refund software downloads I just learned.  I'd say that since Adobe's website provides incorrect information, and I based my purchase  off of that incorrect information, that they should do something for me, then fix their website so it doesn't happen again.
I see that my only two options to talk to customer service are via phone or online chat.   I have no idea how helpful or unhelpful Adobe customer service is (i.e. do they use foreign hard-to-understand call centers or stock-answer chats).  Does it seem like I'd have any chance in the world of communicating this fairly complicated situation and getting an actual resolution from someone?  Is there any email address somewhere I can contact?  That way I could copy and paste the link to the incorrect page on Adobe's website.  If Adobe can't provide me with a refund of some sort, maybe they could just upgrade me to Acrobat Pro or something.  If this is going to be nothing but a many-hour nightmare to try to deal with, though, I'll just eat the money I've spent.
As a last ditch effort, is it possible to upgrade from my existing Acrobat Standard to Acrobat Pro without having to buy a whole new copy of Acrobat Pro?
Geez, what a mess.  Thanks for your help.

  • Acrobat Pro XI transposes numbers for month and day in dates when saving optimized pdf to Excel spreadsheet.

Using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and Excel 14.3.8 on a mac.
Saved PDF as "optimized PDF" then "save as other" > spreadsheet > Microsoft Excel Workbook.
Problem: numbers in some random dates are  transposed so that month and day are reversed.  No particular pattern to these errors.  Only fix we've found is to go through and manually check and correct the date errors - there are hundreds of these errors in the document so this is not a good solution.
(Note: Excel columns with dates are specified as "date" fields. All dates are formatted as m/d/yy)
Any ideas what's causing this problem problem and how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance!

  • How do you add a link to another website in you PDF using LiveCycle?

Can you add a link in your PDF in livecycle that opens a new window that that takes you to a predetermined website?

There may be simpler ways, but this is how I made my button.
Add the button. On the Object palette>Field page change appearnce of button to have no outline and no fill. Highlight the text and on the Font and paragraph palettes choose the correct look for your text (blue and underlined plus anything else you want) and change the text to what you want the link to say.
Then to add the URL, open your script editor (Window>Script editor) & choose "Langauge:Javascript" and "Run at:Client".
With the button chosen, choose the CLICK event (from drop down list, beside "Show") add the script:
app.launchURL("http://AND THIS IS WHERE YOU ADD YOUR OWN URL")
    Hope that is helpful

  • Save as Reduced Size PDF and Save as Optimized PDF do not reduce the file size.  What gives?

Save as Reduced Size PDF and Save as Optimized PDF do not reduce the file size.  What gives?  I used Acrobat 9 to do this for a long time.  I recently received new laptop loaded with with Acrobat 10 and it does not work the same.  I typically scan 8-10 pages of receipts, combine the files in Acrobat, and then optimize to reduce the size so I can upload with my expense report.  Typically, my files were reduced to 200-400 KB.  I have a 2 MB file that will not reduce at all.

Bernd, thank you for your attempt to help but the option dialog windows do not contain the same options.  There are numerous other posts on this forum about this issue and there is no answer.  Clearly, there is an issue.  I have submitted this issue to our internal help desk.

  • Save as optimized pdf, but size not reduced

    Hi
I have several pdf files where I want to reduce the size, but it is not working with the option "Save as optimized pdf" in Adobe Acrobat Pro X.
As an example here is a pdf file I created with Inkscape and Latex: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6521267/test4.pdf
This file has a size of more than 6MB and the Adobe space usage audit says, that 99% of the size is the image.
With save as optimized pdf, I can't reduce size. If I print the file as pdf, the size is reduced, but the link disappeared too.
Do you have an idea, how I can keep links but reduce the size?

This file was made by pdfLaTeX. The image is used in a tiling pattern (even though the tile is only 1x1); very unlikely that any PDF processor will shrink that, because tiles are normally used for special effect we don't want to mess with. It you make the file, see if it's an option you can turn off.

  • Help Needed:  Acrobat Pro XI - Reduced Sized PDF vs. Optimized PDF

Hopefully some of you folks can help me, as I cannot get in touch with Adobe customer service.  I recently upgraded to Acrobat Pro XI.  In my old version of Acrobat Pro, I used to be able to take a PDF file of large size (let's say 10 MB) and shrink it down considerably with relative ease (down to less than 1 MB).  The file could then be easily emailed, shared, read, and most importantly wouldn't take up tons of hard drive space.  With this new version of Acrobat Pro XI, that same 10 MB file barely reduces down to 7 or 8 MB.  I have played with the various settings in both the File -> Save As Other -> Reduced Sized PDF and File -> Save As Other -> Optimized PDF.  Regardless of what I try, I cannot achieve anywhere near the same compression results as what I used to be able to achieve with my old version of Pro.  I can get the file size reduced, but the reduced file quality is trash.
Has anyone else encountered this problem as well?  Do any of you have any suggestions on what to do to fix??  I primarily scan a document as a PDF file with my HP OfficeJet Pro, and then reduce the PDF file size after the scan.  I could scan the document with lower DPI to begin with (currently scan 300 dpi typically grayscale), but then I don't have the scanned image quality that I need to reduce the file down so that it can be reprinted later at a good enough quality.

I had previously ran the audit, and 99% + of my bloat is in the image.  All of the other possibilities for bloat do not even add up to 1%.  For my purposes as a Financial Advisor, I print out blank applications & account forms, fill out the paperwork by hand, and then scan copies of the completed paperwork back into my computer for electronic filing.  Some of these completed client documents can be 50 to 75 pages long ... so the PDF scanned at 300 dpi obviously starts out as a substantially sized document that can take up 25, 35, or 45 MB per scan.  The crazy thing is that the old version of Acrobat Pro (I believe it was version 7 or 8) would take a 45 MB file and compress it down almost to 1/10th of the oiginal size.  As a result, a 45 MB file would end up as a 4.5 MB file.  This significant reduction was always accomplished using the one button selection "Reduce PDF" command ... had nothing to do with optimizing the PDF with the old version.  Once I ended up with the 4.5 MB file, I could open that file at a later date and print out a page that I needed and you couldn't hardly tell if it was the original or a scanned copy.  There was no loss of quality whatsoever!!  The Reduce PDF size in Acrobat XI just doesn't work well ... will take that 45 MB file and reduce it down to 42 MB which defeats the whole purpose of the Reduce PDF command in the first place.  If I play around with the inputs in the Optimze PDF, I can shrink the file size lower but lose way too much image quality.  The only variable that has changed from my old scanning results vs. my new scanning results is the upgrade from Acrobat Pro 7 to Acrobat Pro XI ... everything else that I'm doing is the exact same.  Same thing applies when I create a PDF portfolio from multiple PDF documents ... a 150 MB PDF Portfolio will barely reduce in file size.

  • Automate Save as optimized pdf

I would like to be able to automate - as much as possible - the Save As Optimized PDF function. I have standard selections for all fields in the function. So in order of preference:
    1. Automate the entire process from one input hot-folder to an output folder - without ever opening Adobe Pro.
I think this could be done with a folder javascript - but I need to know the object names within Adobe to set defaults. No clue how to get those object names?
    2. Set the Save As Optimized PDF fields to a default value - so that opening the file - selecting the Save As Optimized - gives the proper results - without input from the user?
    3. Any ideas I haven't thought of?

Answered my own questions - but for the curious.
Set up an Action Wizard - start from a folder - no steps are needed - Save to a different folder.
Inside the save to properties box is a selection for appending to the file name and executing PDF optimizer and all settings for the pdf optimizer - which at the moment looks like it remembers.
put some pdfs into the input folder -
open Pro - do not open any documents
    execute the new wizard.
It does multiple pdfs at a time with no interaction required from the user. and appears to work very well.
    Thanks

  • Save as Optimized PDF only in Pro?

I used the trial version of Acrobat X Pro and used the Save As...Optimized PDF often.  I just bought the standard version and don't see this option.  Is it only available in the pro version?

    That is correct.

  • Change a page's presence after importing PDF in LiveCycle

    Hi Guys,
I have imported a PDF into LiveCycle with "Interactive Form with Fixed Pages" option as I do not want to change the form layout and design. I want to make one of the page hidden from the layout so when I save it as PDF the end user cannot see that page.
Could someone help me how to do this.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
When you import an existing document into LC Designer, certain functionality is not available.
For example, changing the presence of pages is a dynamic feature and so the form MUST be saved as a Dynamic XML Form:
When you try and save as, do you only have the option to save as a Static PDF Form? If so you are not going to be able to show/hide pages. For this functionality the form must be saved as a Dynamic XML Form.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • Optimized pdf grayed out in Acrobat XI

  • Fonts Dropping from Optimized PDFs

One of the settings is causing fonts (enlarged cap letters) to drop from optimized PDF's.  Does anyone have an idea what setting option this is?
    Thanks in advance!

Under the fonts tab of PDF optimizer you should be able to see any fonts that are being deleted. There is also a preflight script to add fonts back in (assuming they are on your system).
