Optimizing video rendering in CC 2014

I'm trying to color correct a 68 minute GoPro video using CC 2014 64 bit on a Windows 8.1 system with 16gb of ram and an i7 2600K 3.4ghz (4 core, 8 threads) system and it looks like it might take 36 hours to render in 1080p (780p didn't appear to be any faster).  I am using an SSD for the video and as a scratch disk.  I checked my performance settings, and they all seem good.  The Task Manager shows CPU utilization at about 33% -- I would have expected higher.  Is there some setting I have overlooked??

Is there some setting I have overlooked??
Well, you are using the wrong program? Forgive the sarcasm, but despite all that stuff PS simply is not a video editing app and all these features have to work within the normal limitations of the main program, meaning it is chewing through the frames as if they were still images plus there is a definitive bottleneck decoding footage in the first place, expanding and flattening the buffers and then re-encode it back to a video format. Most of that happens in a single thread to provide temporal consistency, so there you have it why your (theoretically) powerful CPU is sitting on its own hands with nothing to do for the other cores. Come to think of it, if you recorded at 120 FPS your 68 minutes could equal almost half a million HD frames and batch processing an equal amount of images would take just as long. And there is tons of extra overhead with PS creating lots of temp files eating up your transfer bandwidth, possibly color management stuff requiring extra processing and what have you. So more or less, I suppose you will have to live with it or consider using other "proper" video programs like Premiere Pro.

  • Video rendering and playback option greyed out on Premiere Pro CC 2014

I cannot even click on the Video rendering and playback drop down menu as it is greyed out.
I have a GeForce GTX 660 2GB card which should be supported as it has enough memory. I am on Windows 7.
Would really appreciate if someone has a solution how to enable Mercury Playback Engine in this situation.

Managed to fix the problem by downloading and installing the GeForce CUDA drivers as well as updating graphics card firmware.
The Mercury Playback engine enabled itself in premiere after the updates.

  • Video rendering extreemly slow or just halts

Being playing with video a bit since I bought a Sony RX100 III.  Other than the well known problem with Dolby audio I find that rendering of video clips in Photoshop CC is very hit or miss.  Sometimes the clip renders (very slowly if many adjustments have been made) or a rotating disc appears and nothing at all happens, task manager shows some activity but not nearly as mutch as when rendering is happening properly - the program seems to be in an infinite loop.  My Windows 8.1 machine is reasonably powerful, if I use DaVinci Resolve Lite (if you think Photoshop has a steep learning curve try Resolve!!!) then even with quite complex edits clips render at around real time (25fps).  Something is clearly wrong with the video rendering routine in Photoshop which is a pity as I only want to do the occasional bit of video editing and rendering and certainly don't want to pay for a dedicated video editing tool or invest hours of time learning Resolve (the Lite version is, amazingly, a free download).
Am I missing something?  Do others find Photoshop video rendering flakey?  Is there a work round for this problem?

I do not do video. However i did take a few clips with my Canon 1D Mark 4 it captures 1920x1080 frames and audio. The latgest clip I have is only like two minuets long.  Video captured is format .MOV and the files tend to be very large. 300MB+ per minute. So I thought let see what Photoshop CC 2014 does rendering it to mp4. Render seem to be threaded so the more processors  cores you have the better off your are.  I have two slow 2GH 6 core xeons in my work station soe 24 threads were used.  It took CC 2014 just under 3 minuets to rendet the video went from 733MB to 380MB around 1/2 size and bite rate the mp4 is.

  • Why do i need three? - Google Talk Plugin, Google talk plugin video renderer and Google talk plugin video accelerator?

When I check my plugins, the following three, very closely related (in my mind) plugins are listed, and the "Renderer" still shows "Research" when checking to see if it is Up-To-Date. It seems to me I don't need all three. I tried removing the Renderer (yes, I know how to do that safely), but Google seems to continue to reinstall it (with one or both of the other two...?)...I'll ask this on a Google Forum too, since it's their product, but wondered if anyone has any insight. I obsess about plugins that need "Research" - Thanks!
Google Talk Plugin Video Accelerator version:0.1.44.24
    Google Talk Plugin Version 3.15.2.12038
Google Talk Plugin Video Renderer Version 3.15.2.12038

Went to Google Talk Help and found advice to remove the "googletalkplugin_port file on [my] computer."
http://support.google.com/chat/bin/static.py?hl=en&page=known_issues.cs ... and click "Voice and video plug-in unrecognized" under "Currently Known Issues"....
Now, the only Google Talk plugin I have in Firefox is
    Google Talk Plugin Video Renderer
    Version 3.15.2.12038
...but it does indeed remain "Unrecognized" by Mozilla/Firefox...

  • Photoshop CC Video Rendering

Hi, does the Adobe media Encoder uses CUDA for video rendering? Problem is, when i render video in PS CC, it takes up to 20-30 minutes for a 30sec. clip, only work done was camera Raw filter. CPU ia at 88%, GPU 0% due rendering.

As you see I have latest driver installed so I don't belive this is the problem - something just crashes in photoshop (after the latest update something just don't work anymore).
Like sometimes i can make simpel GIF and sometimes I'm not abel to do same thing with same file cause save for web window play/stop buttons are disabled.
I actually managed to to ger transparent cubes out of it (all 101 of them)- I added replaced illumination texture on each side matchin gwith the material texture,
but now there is no shadows on it beacuse it's basically a light bulb. I belive I just have to doodle with it a bit more and maybe
i manage to get it right (but save for WEB window play/stop buttons still don't work).
I belive there is something to do with photoshop updatet cause i have done some stuff before and it worked well then:

  • IMovie optimized video on windows

    Hello,
A friend of mine had video that he imported from his camera on iMovie on his mac. He then gave the files to me to edit. I edit video with Adobe Premier CS4. When I began working on the video, I could not view the video. All I get when I open the video files in any media player, including quicktime, I only get the audio. Quicktime tells me that I am missing a codec or something, then takes me to a web page with a list of codecs, none of which seem to suite my problem. Is there a way for me to get these iMove optimized videos to work on my PC?
    Other information:
    The video files are .mov
I have tried using Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, VLC, Magic Video Converter, Aimersoft video converter, and Adobe Premier CS4 to view the video. All gave the same main result, Audio but no video. Some gave errors about the video format or about codecs.
My computer is running Windows 7 64-bit

Try MPEG Streamclip, which is free and converts a huge range of video types. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to convert the file on a Mac

  • Computer specs for nice 3D rendering/ after effects rendering and video rendering in general ?

Hi there! I would like to know what the perfect specs for a laptop/workstation/computer are, so that I could do my creative work from home..my old laptop (Macbook Pro, 8Gb Ram, V 2010) is not good enough for 3D rendering, not even Video rendering or After Effects... I need to know what graphics card for eg or how much Ram or what I need to look for in a computer so that I won't get any error messages after rendering for half a day anymore...;) (--> very annoying) Money is not a first priority...i would first like to know, what the best option would be that one could have and then down size from there;)
I would appreciate every help:) my laptop is dying...i need something new and better;)
    cheers stephs

Regardless of workflow, you want a workstation, not a laptop. You will get much more bang for your buck.
Also, as others have said, Windows machines tend to be better choices than Macs right now. And that's coming from two people who used to use/love Macs...
In general, you want the fastest clock speed on your processor that you can afford. You want as many cores as you can get with that nice, high clock speed.
Ideally, you want 4GB of RAM per core of your processor - MINIMUM 16 GB of RAM, (but get as much as you can afford).
You want an SSD for your cache and a good-sized regular hard drive to hold footage, renders, etc.
GPU matters for Premiere and any third-party plugins that use it (like Red Giant Universe, Element 3d, Mettle's ShapeShifter, etc.), but not for AE and not for Cinema 4D (which comes free with AE these days).
Again, this is just some generalization. For more specific info, we'll need to know more about what you're doing.
Also, you don't need to take our word for any of this; read what Adobe has to say on the matter: FAQ: What computer and components should I buy?

  • What accessories were used in the iphone video recorded in January 2014

I am trying to learn what "extras" were used in the making of the Apple video of 24 January 2014.  Credits indicate extra accessories were used.  I would like to learn what they were.

The Apple posted 30th Anniversary video is less than 30 days old!  So, "in the past" leads me to believe you are out of touch with reality!
In the Apple posted video discussion of how the video was made, there are clips of the iphones used with their accessories.  I was hoping others here would be able to recognize the accessories and share their wisdom.
PLEASE forgive me if I have over stepped the boundaries you are imposing on this group.  I am seeking help not reprimands!

  • Video Rendering Question using Premiere Elements 11 and/or Adobe Premiere

The video Rendering /encoding process can take hours even on an I5 processor.
It seems like this has to be done, redone and done again during the editing process.
If I purchase a camera which supports AVCHD 2.0 - does that mean that the encoding process altogether goes away, so that content is able to be transfered natively to the end media and so that I reduce my burn time to a BluRay Disc, using for example, Adobe Premiere Elements 11 or Full Fledged Adobe Premiere, or Sony's Vegas ?
    Newbie to Video Editing.

AVCHD 2.0 only means that the camera can also record 1080p/60, which was previously not part of the AVCHD specification and still is not part of the Blu-ray spec.  It's most useful for smooth slow motion effects.
Anything you add to Premiere Pro will need to be transcoded for Blu-ray, no way around that.

  • Compressor 4.1 video rendering error 3 ?

I'm getting compressor 4.1 video rendering error 3 while trying to process a file to output to 1080p
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Russ,
    Thanks for your reply.
I was using FCPx 10.1 and clicked on "Send to Compressor" to encode the video at 1080p before uploading to
YouTube but each time I tried it processed for about 5 minutes (transcoding) and then failed (with Error 3)
I fixed the problem by exporting the video from FCPX to a .MOV file and subsequently using that file as input to Compressor and outputing a 1080p file for upload to YouTube.
    Regards,
    Frank.

I can't share any video anywhere and am getting this error message:

    I'm using iMovie.

Have you tried to export Master File and use Compressor to encode. There are presets there ?
