Optimum Flash File Size

my users demand high quality videos - however when they are
saved they are 33megs in size - is this too large?
Does anyone have a solution for achieving high quality at a
smaller file size? what is the max recommended file size?
thanks

Well, many sites where videos are big part of the entire
concept, are big. Bigger than 33megs.
Question here is how long is the video? Could be 2 seconds
then 33 is way too much.
3 minutes and 33 megs, very good !

  • Flash file size

    Hi there,
    This is really just a general question but when would you
    decide that your Flash site is too big to load as one movie and
    split it up into external swfs? For example how many KB's would you
    let your site get up to before you start making some pages into
    their own movies? Or now that everyone seems to be using broadband
    can you have much bigger movies?
    Thanks.

    75 minutes of video at high quality really doesn't cater to
    small file sizes. You are going to have
    to experiment with various amounts of compression for the
    "perfect" balance between quality and what
    is acceptable for a movie of that duration. It's kind of an
    oxy-moron to expect to get such a long
    AVI to a small files size at high quality. I have never
    attempted anything of the length so hard for
    me to say. Maybve some one else here has similar experience.
    You didn't mention any compression formats you are trying.
    Are you exporting to FLV?

  • Optimum QT file size for web

    I'm new to iMovie 08 and iWeb, publishing to a folder not my iDisk. Is it better to use the Share feature in iMovie, or to export my video files to QT for upload to my site ? If to QT, what's the optimum size for loading and viewing?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Is it better to use the Share feature in iMovie, or to export my video files to QT for upload to my site ?
    This normally depends on your target file/workflow needs. The "Medium" share option s a good, general purpose setting. It is compatible with QT Pro, iTunes, Front Row, iPhone, iPod, TV, gallery, and iWeb use via high-speed connection. If you want lower data rates, use a phone modem, mono audio, need CD/DVD ROM playback compatibility, or have other special issues, then other "share" pre-sets or export options with user selectable options would be better a better choice.
    If to QT, what's the optimum size for loading and viewing?
    Once again, the is usually a compromise between use requirements, work flow, and the contents itself. As indicated above, a 640 width with appropriate height aspect display is quite common for most uses. I tend to use this for most content that combines action and drama. On the other hand, for things like video tutorials, I would be more likely to use something on the order of a 960x540 at 60-70% of the data rate used for "movie" files. Frankly, ther is an entire range of settings and compromises that can be made between display size, data rates, and content quality which the user normally has to evaluate in order to judge what best for him or her in any particular situation.

  • Optimum Video File Size To Avoid Buffering?

    I am attempting to encode two 3 minute .flv files for my client for their website. I have encoded both of them under a number of settings and I am now down to tiny 8mb files in order for only one of them to play without excessive buffering. It will play, but it looks absolutely horrible, like the folks are under water. The original file was a .mmv that I first encoded to an .flv file around 18mb that looked fairly nice inside of Dreamweaver. I am using Adobe Media Encoder. The excessive buffering is "play one second, stop for 3-5 seconds", etc. So a 3 min video can take a half hour to play sometimes.
    I have gone through the whole process this forum recommends for updating drivers, checking the settings for the website (100mb) (locally now on flash 10.3) and the global settings (client site has unlimited access). I have checked my download speed (Download Speed: 5298 kbps (662.3 KB/sec transfer rate).
    These videos need to be viewable by many different people so there are many variables that I cannot control. I am trying to target DSL and above, not modem.
    We are actually able to stream internet material to our tv off this computer and my webdev computer is a new ssd running windows 7 pro.
    I would appreciate help in getting these two videos encoded and up on the website in a flash player so that they do not buffer excessively.
    Thank you.

    I did post on the AME forum a month ago about issues I was having encoding and an Adobe rep did attempt to help me privately. He finally said since the flash player was also involved I might have better luck with the flash forum, more visitors etc.
    There are hair raising stories going on that forum right now too. My original problem was that AME CS5 would stop encoding at about half way through an hour long video, compress the hour of video (powerpoint presentation) into 30 min and truncate the audio at 30 min. I ended up having to strip the hour long audio from the original file (f4v) with Quicktime pro and use it without the video (because of the poor quality video that resulted). It seems like right now folks are having similar, but slightly different issues encoding and some of them are shops where they do *a lot* of encoding. I don't encode that quantity. I just want to encode a single video once in a while for my client and I rely on AME to help me get through the process.
    I was told by someone who works with both PC and QT/Apple/Mac that if a file (in this case an f4v) was originally encoded in an Apple environment (Final Cut Pro) that my machine would need to have the QT codecs loaded to play the file. This despite the fact that the f4v file was being encoded in Adobe to an flv for flash playback. And that was the case, I ended up having to buy the QT Pro to work with the file and skip AME altogether. It makes no sense. But the fellow who took the f4v file to test said it played fine on his machine with the QT codecs loaded. Go figure. I didn't know the presentation was 60 min for 4 days until something just didn't seem right. AME or Flash Player couldn't play the file.
    Anyway, I thought I would give this forum a try. There must be a few web designers here that work with both products and might have some tips. I don't know if my problem is related to Flash Player or AME. It doesn't make any sense why this is happening. It's a 3 min interview of only moderate video quality. I received the original as a .wmv which probably complicates it even more. AME looks like it is encoding it ok, but Flash Player is butchering it.

  • Which flash files?

    I encoded some footage in adobe media encoder, around 3 - 5 minutes long. I turned the footage into flash files.
    the format was flv, sorenson spark, 15fps
    the flash  file size was approx 20 meg after the encoder had done its job.
    I upload it to my server and everyone in the usa and canada can play it but the people in europe and the uk cannot play it. it loads in the beginning but grinds to a halt after 10 - 15 seconds. then the footage catches up with the buffer and the footage stops.
    it is not the download speed because they can watch mlb.com or other streaming hi def footage that is located on servers in the USA , it only seems to be the files that I am using? they all have fast , modern computers.
    I have tried absolutey everything, mac, pc, server, different server, different players, no player, play in the day time, play in the night time, in a folder by itself, no folder...... you can imagine!
    does anyone have any idea what could cause these files todo this in the UK and Europe? there is absolutely no issue what so ever in the usa?the files play perfectly in the USA.
    This issue is a two week trouble shoot so far so i would be extremely grateful if someone could point me in a direction that makes some sense.
    thank you in advance ' i am not worthy, i am not worthy etc'

    Have you ever actually pinged your server from overseas?  A lot of the larger sites have faster connections than the average shared host.  Plus they are the only site on their server, where you could potentially be sharing the server with a lot of other sites.
    Can you post a link to the question and any further information you have about the encoding of the video?  Which FLV video setting are you using?  Anything you can provide will help and a link is better too so we can see it in action.

  • Adobe flash does not work on bootcamp windows 2002 xp. down loaded to windows. works with Mac. No program folder for such. shows up in "add delete programs" (in setting) but without a file size. I have a MacBook Pro purchased new in June 2010.

    Using bootcamp (windows 2002 xp) I down loaded adobe flash player from the windows platform. told me it installed successfully. however does not work in windows, does works in mac. in xp there is no created program folder for such or created short cut. In the control panel (xp) in add/delete programs it is listed but wihout any file size or frequency used. I've deleted & reinstalled numerous times. Mac OS is 10.6.8. Windows is 32 bit. Can't find a thing that discusses this. THANKS!

  • Trying to reduce file size of my opening page in a flash site

    I'm using the Flash CS4 IDE, and the first page of my site takes a lot longer to load than I want it to.  So I wanted to go through the varied images / symbols / movie clips / sounds and so on to see where all the memory is being chewed up.
    When I go into my library, however, I can see the Name, LInkage, usecound and Type of my elements, but no mention of file size and I can't seem to find any right click menu that lets me add file size to the list of details being displayed.
    Is there a way to make it show file size?  Or some workaround?
    And are there any best practices to reduce file size aside from using symbols for anything that's used more than once and reducing image and sound quality?
    Thanks

    I was actually using the term pretty loosely.  I'm building a Gaia site which works by loading an Index page, then a Nav (navigation) page on top of that, and then lets you load and unload pages as necessary on top of those.
    Since the Nav page never gets unloaded it's a good place to park certain content.  So it's actually my Nav page that's gotten too bloated.  And the coding is handled through a separate Nav.as file (so it's not the first frame of my nav.swf, it's all the varied movie clips I had to incorporate into my Nav.fla
    I'm just looking for a way to identify which MovieClips &  sound files (only have a couple of short ones) and other assets are taking up the most memory so I can see if I can cut those down.
    Also, do unused symbols use up memory or is it only the assets you actually end up adding that count toward file size?
    Thanks

  • After Effects + Adobe Media Encoder + Flash = Most Random File Sizes Ever

    Asking this question in this AE forum because I think more would have knowledge on the topic here than the Flash Forum.
    I've heard that video compression is more of an art than a science...  Could someone provide me some insight on the following?
    -Created a 12 second, 30 FPS, 300x250 banner animation inside of After Effects
    -Exported for FLV/Flash to be placed inside of a 300x250 .FLA
    -Comps rendered directly from Adobe Media Encoder standalone instead of Render Queue in AE (for 2 pass .FLV's, and heard from various that .FLV's from render queue are not the prettiest at times).
    I've always been under the impression that I would get smaller file sizes with SWF's externally linking to an FLV.  If I do it this way, I end up with:
    41 KB .SWF  + 668 KB .FLV = 709 KB
    However, if I EMBED the same 668 KB .FLV to the FLA's timeline (not using the flvPlayback component) I end up with a 381 KB file size!
    I am just confused on the logic here, could someone explain the reasons for this?  I always thought my file size would be bigger if it was embedded to the timeline.

    Actually I think it's the tons of extra AS code that make linked players fatter. Never could make sense of the why and how myself, but you can find enough alternate free players/ skins (nonverblaster for instance, which I use) that are a lot leaner.

    So i've went to both links. After I place this:
    iweb2 navbar is rendered by javascript widget, therefore you can change navbar font style with javascript; this is an efficient way to change navbar font style.
    Copy and paste the following into your pages using HTML Snippet:
    <script type = 'text/javascript'>
    function changeNavbar() {
    navCSS = parent.document.getElementById('widget0-navbar');
    navCSS.style.fontSize = '0.75em'; // font size, change to less than 1em to change font smaller;
    navCSSbg = parent.document.getElementById('widget0-bg');
    navCSSbg.style.textAlign = 'center'; // navbar list alignment;
    clearInterval(chkNavbar);
    chkNavbar = setInterval('changeNavbar()', 500);
    note: You won't see the changes in iweb, but you will see the change when view the pages online - after publishing.
    into a HTML snippit, what do I do? I just see a box full of coding.

  • Why is audio file size larger than in Flash?

    I use both Flash and Captivate. Final file size is a big consideration. I wondered why the file size of the audio in Captivate is almost twice as large as the same audio if it's used in Flash. I'm using the same audio settings for both. Does anyone know what causes the audio compression to be different in Captivate than in Flash?

    OK, sounds like memory will be fine, so let's look at some other stuff...
    Is it only one particularly keynote presentation that slows up for you, or does keynote behave in the same way even if you start from scratch and create a new presentation?
    If it's just the one presentation then there's probably some content (possibly video) within it that KN takes exception to. Sometimes a single problematic slide or piece of content can slow down the whole app.
    Is the problematic presentation one that was imported from Powerpoint? If so, import it again and look carefully at the import error/warning logs.
    Before you start keynote, start up activity monitor - which will give you an indication of what programs are using all the CPU/memory/disk bandwidth etc. You'll then have an idea of whether it is KN maxing out on CPU or whether anything else is dragging the system down.
    Another thing you could try would be to log in to a different user account on your machine (create one if necessary) and then try opening the presentation from within this different account. If this works for you then it suggests a problem with the keynote plist file in your original user account.
    I don't know if it'd be acceptable to you, but if you could post a link to your problematic presentation then I could download it and try it out on my normally reliable Keynote on one of my computers. (Make sure that you've ticked the box to embed all media in the presentation)
    Hope some of this is helpful,
    Mike.

    Hi
    We are looking for a software which converts SWF to MP4, we found many software which does the job but issue is file size is not optimize.
      We found Adobe captivate 6 which gives optimum quality with good output but thing is we do not have batch process in captivate 6. so we request you to create a plugin or give a best option which have batch render quality and optimize in file size,

    Captivate is e-learning development software not a dedicated video convertor, you are better off trying something like Adobe Media Encoder or Super.

  • Maximum Image file size flash can handle?

    Does anyone knows the max image file size flash can load
    using MovieClipLoader?
    I tried 10.5 MB PNG file and Flash thinks it is loaded but,
    the actual image never shows up.
    Thanks,

    Well it is good for that client. But it still won't work in
    Flash. Sorry. You will need to slice the picture into different
    chunks at 2880 x 2880 max and reassemble the tiles in Flash.
    You may also run into an issue that things sometimes get lost
    if there is more that 16,000 (or thereabouts) pixels difference in
    their coordinates.

  • Hitting a specific file size when exporting from Flash CS5

    I need to export three banners to .swf from flash and they all need to be under 61K.  They all use photographs and are 5-7 seconds long each and the dimentions are 300x250 px, 300x600 px & 728x90 px.  Is there any way I can put in the specific file size in the program and make it under 61k?  I tried using the publish settings and lowering the quality and even at 40% quality the file size only went down 20KB from 147 to 127.  If you cannot do that in the program is there any third party programs that can be used to do this?  Thanks for your help!

    What you should do is set the Publish Settings to generate a size report.  That way you will have a detailed listing of what each element of the design contributes to the file weight.  I would guess that the images are going to be the heavy hitters, so you might need to use image software to optimize them as much as possible before importing them into Flash.

  • Exporting Comp to Flash Animation (and Keeping the File Size Small)

    I have an animation I have made in AE which isn't terribly complicated.
    Maybe 450 X 250, mostly blank background. The artwork was done in Illustrator. There are about a dozen layers, all AI artwork, and the animation is about two seconds.
    When I export the animation as an SWF file, the file size is 1.2MB. What do I need to do to make the file size a lot smaller?
    I am not used to making animations for Flash. My AE animations are usually meant for video applications, but someone decided they want this animation to go on their web site instead.
    Thanks!

    If it is a frame by frame animation try importing the MOV file into Flash rather than exporting from AE.
    Not sure if this will work but it might.  When you publish the file in Flash you will get a resulting SWF file that is created automatically.  See if it is smaller.

    Index.swf file size: 55 KB
    Adobe Flash CS5 (Same file when open in CS5 and published)

    Index.swf file size: 215 KB
    Please suggest.
