Optimum Pixel size for Video????

I used to make my video files 720x486 (0.9px) D1 and they would come out nice... now with iDVD 6 It seems to be scrunching my video (adding small black bars on top and bottom) and causing distortion. What is the optimum video pixel size for the standard and widescreen settings of iDVD??
cheers@!
c

Quoting F Shippey:
If you live in 'NTSC land', Apple suggests that you use 720x540 pixel images for standard video and 854x480 pixel images for widescreen.

  • Optimum pixel size for album artwork?

When I search for artwork I see very many different sizes available such as, 50x50, 400x400, etc. What is the optimum size to use in iTunes when the artwork will be displayed on an iPod, an iPhone, and an iPad? If I understand correctly, iTunes will resize the artwork to display properly on the devices, but I was wondering if I should look for a "standard" size to add to iTunes that will still look correct whether it is on an iPod or an iPad.

Of course it also depends upon how much space you have on your drive, and how much space on a player if you add them to mp3s or whatever. Perhaps not a huge difference but if you start adding 500k image files to 20,000 tracks then it does add up to a GB or two.

  • Photos: optimum file size for storage

I have a few questions about what is the best way to manage my photos.
Do I need to put my photos into my iTunes library before I can get them onto my ipod? There is no category called photos, so I'm not quite sure where they will go.
Will the file size be compressed before synching it to the ipod so that only the pixels required for the small screen resolution will be kept, or will photos remain in their full original size, limiting how many I can store?
If it goes on as the full original file,
    a) will I be able to connect my ipod to photo kiosks to get prints?
    b) what are the minimum dimensions and dpi that will show nicely on the screen so I can manually convert them myself before adding to my library?
I also have a question about album art. I've been able to set my own personal art (eg. family photos) to albums, but I'm not sure if it works for individual songs. As I understand it, these images are compressed and made part of the ID3 tags. Does this take up a significant portion of available memory?

You don't add your photos to iTunes at all, it does not actually show them in iTunes like it does music.
You can't prepare for the photos transfer before you get the iPod as you will only see the photo setting once the iPod is connected.
Once the iPod is connected there is a new tab in iTunes that lets you select the photos you wan to put on the iPod, basically it lets you select a folder.
I suggest you read the manual here, it explains it all :-

Thanks. I didn't realize there was no way to prepare the photos, because it's certainly taken me a long time to prepare the music.
I've been reading the manual, and it does not explain those questions I asked.
+If you’ve set up photo syncing, iTunes automatically copies or updates your photo library (or selected albums) from your computer to iPod touch whenever you connect iPod touch to your computer. iTunes can sync your photos from the following applications:+
+Â On a PC: Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 or later or Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0+
    +or later+
+For information about syncing iPod touch with photos and other information on your computer, see “Getting Music, Videos, and Other Content onto iPod touch” on page 5.+
    +(Page 7)+
+You can sync photos from Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 or later or Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 or later on a PC. You can also sync photos from any folder on your computer that contains images.+
It doesn't explain how it's done. How will I tell it which file to grab the photos from? There are four different locations where I am storing photos, and I only want to use one. It also does not mention whether the photos will remain in original format and whether they'll be readable at photo kiosks.
I hope that when I get the ipod it will be more clear.
    Thanks for you help.
    Any other advice?

  • Optimum Image Sizes for iWeb 08?

I'm trying to find an optimum size for images for an online portfolio. . I have the photos in their native resolution, and I'm wondering what size should I downsize them to for the slideshow view. . . any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

It really depends on how many photos you want to load and what quality you need.
You have to trade of these against the download speed of your webpage.
The iWeb Photos or Albums pages are not the best way to present your work.

  • What pixel size for A5 on iPad 2?

I need to make some A5 leaflet in Photoshop Touch on my iPad 2.
I don't know what pixel size to use for A5. I was told 2480x1754 but this prints way too small on my printer.
    Any ideas?!
    Thanks.

I don't see a way to at least increase the quality in the apps that the Photosmart uses. Still, it might not be the printer's fault since you can't set the DPI in PS Touch...at least not yet. What's the default at? 72 DPI?

  • Pixel size for web

So i downloaded a flash temp for my bands website. It is my first attempt at flash. The background pixel size is 766x750. I worked off this and am finished the site. Now however when i upload my site it doesn't fill the screen. It's more of a square! I have tried putting 100% in the html publish settings and that works but now everything is stretched and looks awful. Please tell me there is a way around this that doesn't involve re sizing every image in photoshop and re importing it!!!
    thanks in advance
    DR

A stage of that size is going to be roughly square in shape. If you want your movie to stretch or shrink to fit/fill the user's screen, then you need to use artwork that will look good in enlargement or reduction. There's nothing wrong with using a static size for your movie.

    Help

Generally I use something like 900 x 600 for the web. If you use Expert Mode:
    File >> Save For Web
The image will be optimized. Select jpeg and medium quality. That should keep the file size under 100k, which is ideal for web site viewing with fast downloads. You can compare the potential file size by looking at the optimized preview window alongside the original size.
If anyone downloads such an image only a very small quality print could be made e.g. 3 inches by 2 inches at 300 ppi.
For projection or viewing on a large wide screen something like 2000 x 1333 at 72ppi usually works well.
It really depends on the original aspect ratio. Mine are all 3:2, hence the dimensions above, but cameras differ so use the measurements for the long edge as a guide.

  • What is the suggested pixel sizes for audiobook images?

I know album art is 600 x 600 for music. Does the audiobook format use these same dimensions? Or more of a rectangle size instead of perfect square?
    Thanks!

Are you creating the artwork or getting it from the Internet? If you're downloading it, there's not much consistency in format. Some publishers size the art as if it came from a paperback book cover, others size for CD jewel cases. The more recent stuff is 600x600.

  • Best size for video playback

Has anyone done any testing to see what the best sized video format is for the Kin1 and Kin2? I see they are both advertised as 320x240 resolution. I'm wondering how other resoulutions are displayed on the screen.

Some options you could try to reduce the size further.
I had good results in the N97 using 368x208 resolution instead of the larger 640x360. In the small screen of the phone it doesn't make "much" difference to have the additional pixels. IMHO.
Also you could use 64 kbps for audio instead of 96 kbps. For movies, tv shows or other programming that's mostly voice centric higher bitrates are not needed. Only if you are doing music videos or something like that then you require high bitrates in audio. Voice is very simple and can be highly compressed.

  • Photo Sizes for Video

I am fairly new to Mac and to iLife so I apologize if this question is very basic. What is the best size of photo (in pixels) with which to make videos? I don't do live video tracks so the few movies I have made have been with photos that I put in iPhoto.
I am using iPhoto and iMovie 09 (although version number says 8 and the product choices below say 8 as well).

For a high definition movie, you need 1920x1080 or higher. For a standard definition movie or DVD, you need 720x480.
As a practical matter, you don't have to worry about this if you are using iPhoto and a modern digital camera. When you drag your photo in from the photo browser, it will do these conversions for you automatically.
However, if you are scanning old paper photos or slides, make sure you get enough resolution. In general, if you scann at a resolution that will look good on a printer, it will be more than enough for iMovie.
I movie can handle photos at lower resolutions than this, for example, from older cell phone cameras. Just don't expect them to look great.

  • Is it possible to enter a custom canvas size for videos shot in portrait

I'm working on a project for a client that needs to string together several hundred videos that were all shot on an iPhone in portrait. I have found where I can change the "Video Properties" by clicking the wrench icon in the properties inspector, but I cannot figure out a way to enter a custom size. Vimeo supports vertical video, so I would like to keep the vertical format and edit the videos together using FCPX. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks Tom. I was able to crop the videos by purchasing Quicktime Pro 7 and using a mask. I did not realize that Quicktime Pro 7 would work on Lion, but it seems to be working fine.
    Thanks!

  • Quartz Composer maximum file size for videos?

I'm using the Movie Importer patch and large videos refuse to play. I had no trouble with a 16-minute, 249.6 MB file, but a 7-hour, 534.6 MB file doesn't work. The patch acts like I don't have a file selected at all: it doesn't output an image or a duration value like it's supposed to. I have tried a variety of formats (.mp4, .m4v, .avi) and a variety of frame rates and resolutions. All of my test videos played fine in Quicktime Player (I use Perian, which may explain .avi compatibility... I don't think that's supported natively).
I can't find anything in the docs about file size or duration limits. What am I missing?
    Thanks for the help!

That is a pretty small file for being 7 hours long.
Have you tried using interpolation and converting the hours, seconds and frames into all seconds or does that defeat the object of the composition? I have a bunch of movies taken with the same camera and some do not provide a timecode. Has been an issue for me for a while. In X.6.+ even apple created comps cause the finder and QC to crash. • File Type and Size for Video iPod

I have the latest ipod that does it all, but I am a little concerned about the lack of control on the file type size. I can export a mp4 file with my own settings so it isn't such a large file but it won't load or play. I can convert the file but it makes it the standard file size which is larger than I want it to be. Isn't there a way to save my own settings and still have it play video?
Thanks for any info from anyone.

I want to save a higher and better compression and not such high quality settings as the ipod standards settings are.
    You can't.
