Optimum screen resolution?

I'm a newbie to using CS4 and I'm experimenting with the screen resolution on my 24" monitor.  Dell recommends 1900x1200 but the text is too small to read comfortably at that resolution.  I've read that 1024x768 is the minimum resolution suggested by Adobe but that would seem to waste much of the available space on this size of monitor.  I'd be interested in learning what others have found to be the ideal screen resolution for Photoshop, particularly when using a larger monitor.  Thanks.

If it's an LCD (and the Dell 24" widescreen is) you MUST use the native resolution. BTW, it's 1920x1200.

Thanks Bob and dec9 for your replies - both very useful.  Being unfamiliar with the term "native resolution," I Googled it and came up with an explanation in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_resolution in case others are interested.

  • What is the optimum screen resolution for Macbook Pro 15 inch?

Hi, can anyone please provide advice on the optimum screen resolution for a 15 inch MacBook Pro?

Natively you'll get a resolution of 1440 x 900 or you can pay for an upgrade  to 1680 x 1050(current models).

  • Optimum Screen Resolution for Slides

I need to create a few slides which will be displayed full-screen. Since

downsampled in any way by the Adobe server when I upload them? My screen

would create problems for viewers on smaller monitors. Am I right? Is

  • Choosing the optimum screen resolution?

I am having problems with the choice of screen resolutions.
I using an external screen with my MacBook Pro closed. Mavericks auto choice produces an image on the external screen that overlaps the right edge of that screen. I can fill the external screen by choosing a lesser resolution but I get constant reminders that this is not the optimum resolution. How do I resolve this problem? Any help would be welcome. Thanks.

  • Optimum screen resolutions

A previous post earlier complained about the problems of high screen resolution on a 27 inch iMac.  I have a 22 inch iMac and would be interested in hearing from some of you concerning your experiences and what you have found to be the best all around resolution for the 22 and/or 27 inch iMacs?

Anything below the native resolution and everything will get a little fuzzy. That being said the potential down side to high dpi monitors is that everything on screen that has set resolution will appear smaller then on a monitor the same size with a lower res.
Mac OS has a lot of great scaling tools to help though. In most porgrams you can use Command and = to zoom in, or make text bigger. You can also hold down the control key and scroll up on your mouse and will zoom in to any point on the screen.

  • Screen resolution gone poor in Mac Mini

I cannot get optimum resolution on my Mac Mini. Just a day before I disconnected all the cords, including power and HDMI, just to move my Mac Mini (OS X 10.9.4) to a different room, and connected it back as it was. (Really speaking only two cords) and now I can't seem to get my screen resolution back.
The earlier screen resolution was there since I connected my Mac Mini for the first time to the LCD TV screen and I never had to deal with any resolution settings, but I am clueless now why I can't SET and SAVE optimum screen resolution settings. Here is screen capture for my System Preferences -> Display settings
I also have DISPLAYMENU app which gets me to a better screen resolution now, but it seems I do not have any option to save that configuration so every time I restart my Mac Mini, the display will go back to its weird screen resolution state and I have to start from all over again to get it back in a good viewable screen resolution with the help of DISPLAYMENU. I have contacted Apple Support and have done resetting SMC and PRAM and entering in to SAFE-BOOT as well; nothing seems to help here. Any other suggestions? (I cannot accept that it is LCD TV problem because 1. Earlier it was working absolutely FINE. 2. I have my xbox connected to same LCD TV and I am getting screen resolution what I was getting earlier.)

    Backlight
    Direct LED
    Refresh Rate
    60Hz
    Resolution
    720p
    Dynamic Contrast Ratio

    Display Aspect Ratio
    16:9
    Display Resolution
    1366x768
    Colors:
    16.7 million
This is what I found on manufacturer's website for the TV model I have. I do not remember exactly what was the resolution earlier but it was definitely not 720 (in earlier image). All I know is I can observe the difference in the screen resolution.
Also I have tried all sort of setting and resettings; (I was on chat with Apple support over an about 45 mins and on phone call around the same time.)
Also, I cannot accept that I might be using wrong connectors/adapters/TV not compatible to the resolution I am trying to get to; because it was working absolutely fine just few days before and as mentioned I have connected my xbox to the same TV, which works absolutely fine.

  • Proper screen resolution for optimum work with SD

    A couple of questions.
I've just set up a 27" IMAC with FC. What's surprised me is the poor quality of the SD image I'm getting in the Viewer and Canvas. Two years ago I edited another SD project on a system using two 24" Apple monitors, and at that time we were all amazed by the quality of the image. Hardly looked like SD at all. We were even impressed when we looked at the work on the full screen. Yet that's not what I'm getting now.
I'm just wondering if there as been a change in the most recent version of FC. (Mine is FCP 7;I don't know what version I was using two years ago on that other project.) I looked in the manual and under "Viewer/Pop-Up Menu" I read: "+If the Viewer is scaled to anything other than 100 percent and you're displaying a DV clip, only one field is shown during playback or while scrubbing through the clip+." Has this always been the case with DV, which my SD footage is? Could my problem only be a problem with this latest version of FC?
As it is, set optimally on the 27" with a second monitor for the Browser, my Viewer and Canvas are producing a 199% size image. So given that, plus the fact that I'm only seeing one field, maybe I shouldn't be surprised at the weak image I'm getting.
    Second question.
After reading about this loss of one field when the DV image is other than 100% I thought I'd set the Viewer pop-up menu to 100% rather than "Fit Window". Problem here, of course is that my image is now very small - a diagonal of only 7 inches. To try and deal with this I've played around with the IMAC screen resolution and when I change it from 2560x1440 to 1920X1080 I can get a 100% two field image with a 9 1/2 inch diagonal. Not great but better.
Does anyone think this is a recommended way to go? I'm always confused about how a monitor is reproducing a format that is 525 TV lines so the issue of the optimal resolution on my screen is confusing me. (I tried setting the screen to 1600X900. Now my 100% image is 11 1/2 inches but there is a very noticeable drop in image quality.)
Thanks for any help or advice I can receive.
    John

Has this always been the case with DV, which my SD footage is?
Yes. Perhaps you old system had the Viewer and Canvas windows set to 100% and your new one doesn't.
Could my problem only be a problem with this latest version of FC?
    Not likely.
As it is, set optimally on the 27" with a second monitor for the Browser, my Viewer and Canvas are producing a 199% size image. So given that, plus the fact that I'm only seeing one field, maybe I shouldn't be surprised at the weak image I'm getting.
    BINGO!
For best results, always use a properly calibrated, external TV monitor for critical viewing when editing.

  • Macbook Pro late 2013 - problem with login screen resolution

    Hi,
I've got problem with login screen resolution, after upgrade to Yosemite. I use the 4rd resolution (last one) on my Mac Pro (late 2013), and after restart login screen is always on optimum mode... But it's only about the login screen.
Do you know how can I fix it? I would like to have the same resolution on every screen.
    thx in advance

I  Reformatted the CF card  on the new computer   it works fine now on the new Mac Pro
Interesting point about  the low power  of the usb ports   I had to deal with all devices ejecting them selves  when the mac pro  was idle or slept  Drobo needed a Firmware update and another drives  needed  me  to change the sleep setting  or the Mac Pro   to never and  i also  had to deploy a  script to write to each device  ever minute,   this  kind  of sold the problem  with external Hard drives.   I wonder if the lowering  power  to a CF card   can eject  it  in a manor  which would make the  computer  think it is corrupt.
I have looked at  buying a power usb Hub    but seems only one or two  of the ports are powered.
Seems to be a bit problem with the mac pro especially  as everything has to be connected externally
Will assume the Firewire Connector does not work.

  • Accurate screen resolution vs web

I have an aluminum 23in ACD (4years old) on a G5. Display Preferences have resolution set to 1920x1200 which looks correct and seems optimum. When I make a graphic that is 5inches x 3.5 inches in photoslop and view it at 100%, it is about 30% smaller than it accurately should be. In other words, if I take an actual ruler and measure on the screen, my 5inch wide graphic is 3.5inches. Why is this? And what does the web see that size as?
If I make the item 5x3.5 at 96ppi, its screen size is pretty much accurate, but I am told that it should be made at 72ppi.
    Somewhat confused here.
Any comments appreciated, other than the usual "you ignorant...!!$#%..."

I'd say the 72 ppi standard is pretty much out the window at this time in history with respect to the web. When the original Macintosh came out with its 9-inch diagonal, black and white screen with 512 x 384 resolution, Apple went through pains to make sure it conformed to the typesetting standard of 72 ppi by making the screen 72 pixels/dots per inch. Thus WYSIWYG was born on the Mac whereby printed output on the 72 ppi dot matrix printer came out at the same size as elements on the screen. Everything matched on this original system.
Apple held onto 72 dpi screens for a while but the wheels started to come off the cart with the advent of notebook screens where there was a desire to have more on-screen pixels but the screen size was limited by cost and processing limits of the day. So 80 dpi soon showed up on Apple screens and up and up it has crept to the point where we now have a 17" MacBook Pro screen with 1920 x 1200 resolution at 133 dpi, nearly double the original 72 dpi.
Desktop publishing software applications have strongly adhered to the 72 ppi standard that is a part of their DNA which isn't going to go away. But the fact of the matter is that with screen resolution being all over the map, and resolution independence of displayed computer output still an unfulfilled promise, you can never hope your audience of viewers will all see what you have intended with your webpage at exactly the same size.
At this point in time, I'd say 96ppi is much closer to the average computer monitor display than 72ppi, so you are probably better off standardizing on that for web content meant primarily to be viewed on screen.

  • DB does not look the same in different screen resolutions

    Hi All -
I have built my dashboards using the Windows screen resolution 1024 x 768, and exported the dashboard into powerpoint.  With this resolution the dashboard looks normal.  I then changed my Windows screen resolution to 1280 x 1024, opened the ppt slideshow and my X-axis labels are being cut off.  The labels are written vertically (ex: 06/09/09).
Does anyone know why this could be happening?
    Thanks!
    Tracy

I am experiencing the exact same thing. The width of the tabs in the layout editor is varied depending on the length of the text. However, at run-time, the width of the tabs is fixed, causing the tabs to be wider than the window and a set of VCR buttons to appear in the upper right corner of the canvas. Personally, I think this is a Forms bug. Why would they intentionally let us set the width to variable at design-time only to force a fixed width at run-time?

  • Unable to Change Screen Resolution in Remote Session - Windows Server 2012 R2

Does anybody know of a way to allow Remote Desktop users to adjust their own screen resolution in a remote session under Windows Server 2012 R2? We are struggling with this and can't seem to find a solution.
When users login to their RDP session and try to adjust their screen resolution this message is displayed in Control Panel:
"The display settings can't be changed from a remote session."
We don't want to use the "make text and other items larger or smaller" scaling feature, as this produces undesirable results with some of our applications.  We also don't want to have to support multiple types of RDP clients or RDP shortcut
    files.
We have looked at other posts but can't find an answer that applies to Windows Server 2012 R2.  The closest thing we could find is KB2726399, but it only applies to Server 2008.
Does anybody have a solution for Server 2012?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Currently you cannot change the resolution from within the session.  This is normal and expected behavior.
Unfortunately this means you need to set the desired resolution before connecting by using custom .rdp files, manually within the Remote Desktop Client, custom web launch page, custom windows launch program, etc.

  • Using Mini DisplayPort to VGA, screen resolution distorts.  How do I fix?

When I use my Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, the resolution gets too big for my screen (mbpro 15") and the same thing appears on the projector I use. I'm not sure if I should change my screen resolution while I use the projector or what?
Also, the first (and only) time I used it, it seemed as if the signal wouldn't even send. After a while of fiddling around, the screen finally showed up on the projector (distorted) but we didn't do anything different to change that. It just kind of did it on it's own. Is this common for "first uses" or will this happen every time?
I plan on using this again Friday.

Welcome! If you have mini displayport, you should try the appropriate discussion group for your newer machine:

  • How to turn off "screen resolution" warning in iPhoto?

I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on a Mac mini (Late 2012), 2.3 GHz, 4 GB memory, iPhoto version 9.5.1 (902.17). I get the "screen resolution not optimal for iPhoto" warning repetitively about once every 15 minutes as long as iPhoto is running. I have set the resolution to my preference and I don't mind seeing this warning once when I start iPhoto, but it gets annoying. How can I set iPhoto to stop doing this?

Is there a reason, why you do not update to the Yosemite compatible version iPhoto 9.6? I never get the warning, you are reporting, if the iPhoto window can fit the screen, with MacOS X 10.10.2 and iPhoto 9.6.1.

  • How can I resize my Flash site to fit any screen resolution?

I built a 100% flash site with tiled framing but I have a

    tlcarl,
    > I know most people probably view at 1024 x 768.
You think so? Even if they have their resolution that high
    (which is
fairly standard, nowadays), do you think most people maximize
    their browsers
    to fill that whole area?
    > Is there anyway to auto resize based up on screen
    > resolution or something to detect the screen size and
    > adjust the webpage accordingly.
There is, indeed. :) Check out the Stage.onResize event in
    the
ActionScript 2.0 Language Reference. That event is dispatched
    when the
browser (or whatever container) is resized -- in cases where
    the SWF is
embedded with percentages. If that's your aim, you'll need to
    code against
that event, which can be done like this ...
    http://www.quip.net/blog/2006/flash/how-to-position-movie-clips-browser-resizing
It can take a bit of thought, depending on the complexity of
    your goal,
but the result is usually worth it. The site in your URL is
    already built,
so this wouldn't do much of anything without opening the
    hood, so to speak,
and completely rebuilding the engine. A Flash movie has to be
    designed and
programmed to respond to the Stage.onResize event.
