Optimum Settings for Video Streaming (Netflix, Sling, etc) with E1500?

I recently started using an E1500, which, for the most part, has worked great. However, my Roku devices no longer connect at maximum speed/quality, according to the connection gauge. I no longer get the HD indication. The highest I get is 4 dots. With my Panasonic Netflix software, where there is no specific HD indicator, just a horizontal bar, it is always one notch shy of max. With previous routers (Dlink, Actiontec, 2Wire) I had no problem connecting at the maximum, even with "G" connections.
So, I was wondering if there were settings within the E1500 that would optimize video data transport. I do have WMM enabled. I also added the Roku boxes to QOS. But, I am still getting less-than-maximum connections with Roku and Panasonic Netflix apps.

Open the set up page of the router by typing the IP address of 192.168.1.1 or open Cisco connection go to router settings
Then go to advanced settings and  then click copy password and hit OK ..once you on the router page
Go to wireless and click manual after that create network name (SSID) Then set the wireless security as WPA2 personal
Which would give you stabilize connectivity then upgrade the latest firmware on  the router and reduced the MTU to 1462..
Unplug the power from  the modem and  the router
Wait for 1 minute and plug them back wait for 1 minute and then check the speed .

  • Optimum settings for video playback on 5800 Xpress...

    Hello.
I want to find out what are the best setting to use for converting videos for watching on the 5800.
I will be converting from EyeTV files using a Mac. I can use either the ‘Export’ function from EyeTV or VisualHub – both have a huge range of formats and settings.
I could spend considerable time playing around with settings, but thought it easier to ask, as someone might of done this before.
The fact that I am using a Mac is unimportant - what I need are the optimum settings for: format, bitrate etc?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

i have h264/aac working in either a mp4 or a 3gp container, settings are 352x198 1000kbps ABR video 128kbps audio, baseline level 1.0, no b-frames, no cabac are the main things to remember. this is the largest size 16/9 aspect h264 the 5800 will play,  this gives really good watchable video though and even dropping the video bitrate to 600kbps ABR still gives watchable video. i have attached a mediainfo output file for you to get the full settings i use, hopefully someone will find good use for this

  • DVR Software for Video Streaming

Subject: DVR Software for Video Streaming
I can purchase 4 video cameras. I can purchase a DVR.
However, I do not know who makes any software to take 4 video streams into the DVR and either
    (1) write them on a DVD which can be viewed on my G5, or
    (2) provide a LAN interface from my G5 to the DVR to download the files over the LAN to my hard drive and view (and potentially edit) them on my Apple G5 and monitor system.
The PC world requires a PC software with ActiveX which of course is not available on Macs.
If my need can't be fullfilled, then is there any reliable way of getting ActiveX operational on a MacOS 10.4 G5 system?
Will this become easier when Apple fully migrates to Intel chips. Can any of the Intel chip Mac systems sold by Apple today using MacOS 4.X be used with ActiveX (or equivalent)?
Now, aren't these interesting questions. Will Apple move into 2006 with a bang and provide a wireless DVR????

  • Video formats and optimum settings for both Mac and Windows XP

Now this is a strange one: I create a Windows Media (WMV) file and it plays great on the Mac (I have Flip4Mac installed also). However, it doesn't play on Windows XP in MSIE -- but the QuickTime (.M4V file) does. I do have QuickTime installed on the WXP. I guess the following questions are of interest not only to me but to a lot of people:
    1. What are the absolute optimum settings and format for a QuickTime file that will be played on an Apple in Safari or other browser? .MOV? .M4V? .MP4?
    2. Same question for Windows XP. .AVI? .WMV?
I know there is a lot of already available information on this but I'm looking for a video expert who has troubleshot this to death and has this down and working on an existing website.
NOTE: I would make it a Flash file but Keynote exports a non-playing Flash format file as does QuickTime, so no luck there. Also, for some stupid reason Keynote separates the audio and video when exporting to a QuickTime movie and what's with that?
Sorry this got long but not only I, but I'm sure a lot of people have this set of questions. Much appreciated.

Depends – if you are planning on connecting to an Exchange Server then I would suggest that you install Crossover (www.codeweavers.com) on your Mac’s and then Office 2003/Outlook. I am connecting to an Exchange Server running Windows Small Business Server 2003 and have not had any problems using Outlook and sharing Calendar data between my XP and Mac systems.
If you are not planning on using Exchange and your mail usage is not that demanding (less than 20 messages daily) the you could use the basic Mail clients that come with OSX (Mail) and Windows (Outlook Express).

  • Help implementing QoS for Video Streaming

    Hello friends!
I am trying to implement a quality of service logic for a videoplayer based on the Brightcove API. As I have learned it's a better idea to use methods in NetStreamInfo class (eg. currentBytesPerSecond) rather than using a native bandwith check.
E.g. (where nc is a NetConnection object)
    var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
    var nsi:NetStreamInfo = ns.info;
    var cbytes:Number = nsi.currentBytesPerSecond;
use cbytes to evaluate which quality to chose...
The problem is that streams are initiated (by videoplayer) using the Brightcove API and not directly using NetConnection.connect(). The BC API doesnt seem to give me any access to the classes listed above either, altough I'm certain it's utilizing them.
Are there any Brightcove or video streaming experts out there that have a clue as to how I can access the NetConnection object used by Brightcove? Or if i can access the NetStream object or even tge NetStreamInfo object directly.
    best regards,
    Fredrik

You don't have your egress queuing setup. You need to map your COS values to a queue, then you can allocate bandwidth to those queue's. This makes lower priority traffic wait while higher priority traffic gets transmitted.
I have a few configuration examples on my site that may help you. Remember that the config that I have may not be the best for your network so you will have to figure that out yourself.
    http://goatnetworking.com/CiscoCSwitchQOSConfig.php
Make sure that your QOS profile on the WLC is set correctly. I found one of my controllers didn't even have a value set in the profile, but the profile was applied and doing nothing.
You need to apply the policy map to mark packets on the port where the video source is on your network.
You need to Trust DSCP on all of your trunk ports or the switch will ignore the dscp markings.
QOS may only be one of many issues that may be causing your problem. Your AP's could be overloaded with clients, your data rates may not be optimized, etc..
    I hope this helps

  • BEST SETTINGS FOR INTERNET STREAMING?

I have been trying for days to make a video of a very specific size (580x326) work with internet streaming. Im exporting with quicktime, however i cant seem to post under quicktime, so im posting here as i have final cut pro as well.
Please tell me the best setting to export a video for internet streaming (preferably through quicktime 7).
which settings, framerate, kbits/sec stuff like that.
the current video is at http://www.nveiltv.com/

You do understand that "personal opinion" about compression settings massively depend on the type of footage you are dealing with, delivery target, length, desired output file size, client standard and demand and so on.
However, sounds like you want to get a suggestion to get started... start from here:
    frame rate:current
    bit rate: 1650k/bits
frame size: 720x405 (yes, a bit bigger and better)
    audio: ACC 44.100
    target bit rate: 128 kbps
Prepare for Internet Streaming: Fast Start
Set an IN and OUT point to select a portion of you project (this works in both FCP and Compressor) and compress that portion to check out result. Remember:
the higher the video bit rate the better the video should look but the bigger the file size gets.
Ultimately trust your eyes and ears.

  • H.264 Settings for Darwin Streaming Server

I would like to encode H.264 for unicast streaming delivery off of the Darwin platform. We've done a lot of testing and the .mov encodes that we've been putting out at 768kbps (hinted for streaming) have been serving quite slow and choppy off of anything other than a T1 connection.
I've seen some H.264 .mp4 encodes at 350kbps that look incredible streaming but we cannot duplicate this size and quality for some reason with our own video.
At 480x270, or something around those dimensions, I was wondering what the best bit rate and format would be for streaming delivery off of the Darwin platform?
For Darwin we are running 5.5.5 and we are using Compressor 3.0.1. All testing is being done with Quicktime 7.2 on Mac Pro machines over various types of connections.
    Thanks,
    Mike

After looking through the apple manual I found this:
Resetting the Streaming Server Admin User Name and Password
If you forget the Streaming Server Admin user name and password, you can reset them.
To reset the user name and password:
1 Log in to the server computer as root, open a terminal, and type the following:
    qtpasswd someUserName
where someUserName is a name of your choice.
2 Follow the prompts by entering the administrator user name and a password you want to
    assign to the user someUserName.
3 Using a text editor, modify the /Library/QuickTimeStreaming/Config/qtgroups file.
For Windows, modify the c:\Program Files\Darwin Streaming Server\qtgroups file. For other
supported platforms, modify the /etc/streaming/qtgroups file. Modify the file so that the user
name you just created or modified is included in the group Admin, as follows:
    admin: someUserName
4 Save the file as ordinary text (not .rtf or any other file format).

  • CS4 MPEG 2 export settings for video captured by sony cybershot dsc-w35

    Hi,
I am trying to export a project (which contains video captured by my sony cybershot dsc-w35 digital camera) in MPEG 2 format (not sure if there is a better format I should be using, but I tried to do it in AVI before and the resulting file was way too large), and the resulting exported file always comes out with choppy video. The video capture settings for my cybershot camera (and thus the source video in my project) are:
         - VGA (640 x 480)
         - framerate: 25 fps
At the outset, I am using DV (only other option is HDV) as capture format, and I selected DV-PAL: Standard: 48 kHz as my Sequence preset. I have no idea if thi is the appropriate preset for me to be using, but it seems logical since its timebase is 25 fps and it says a 4:3 video ratio in the description, and almost every other preset seems to be intended for HD video and higher framrates or ratios, etc.
At the export stage, I select MPEG 2 format, and other than that I really have no idea what settings I should be using. I set the preset to Custom and under the Video section I switch the framerate to 25 and the pixel aspect ratio to 4:3. Everything else I pretty much leave the same.
Can anyone tell me why the export file always comes out choppy? (it is not choppy when I watch it in Premiere itself). I must be either using the wrong preset at the beginning or in the export stage (or both). The VGA capture setting of my camera seems like it might be an issue as none of the presets in Premiere appear to accomodate it. Any help is sincerely appreciated!

Thanks for the prompt response, Hunt.
The spec sheet you referred to is actually for the Sony cybershot dsc-w350, whereas my camera is the sony cybershot dsc-w35. that's probably the reason for the discrepancy. When looking at the properties of the source video I am using it says 25 fps, so does this mean I should be using a PAL preset in the export stage? I see what you mean about using a Desktop (custom) preset for the sequence preset, and for this I set the framerate to 25, frame width to 640 and height to 480 (to match my camera settings), but what should I set the pixel width to?
In the export stage, I select custom preset again, but within this there are lots of options (mostly under the Video tab) I am unsure about. Should I be using PAL instead of NTSC since I'm using a 25 fps framerate? I can also scroll video quality anywhere from 1 to 5, any ideas? I can also choose various pixel aspect ratios here and then there are a bunch of bitrate settings I am totally cluseless about. Also, under the Multiplexer tab, there is an option between constant and variable bitrate types, which should I use? Thanks again

  • Best bitrate settings for optimal streaming

    Hi all,
I export my video projects for the web out of FCE using 'quicktime conversion'. Under prepare for internet streaming I choose 'hinted streaming'. After export I convert the qt file into a flash video file via Adobe Media Encoder. Can some one tell me what the best bitrate settings are for getting the info to stream ahead of the play head while still maintaining a good quality video file? I'm not sure I understand the difference between 'target bitrate' and 'maximum bitrate'.
Thanks in advance for any input.

    Dennis Roliff Photography

    Hi Geoff,
Thanks for the input. Yes, this makes sense now to me. Exporting as 'quicktime movie' will work best when I'm putting the video on a DVD for presentation as it will maintain the high quality before being compressed by iDVD, or by AME for use on web. I am wondering what the two 'uncompressed' options are about in 'save with quicktime conversion' export process.
    Thanks.

  • Best settings for web streaming

I made an 11 minute film in imovie. I want to put it on my website. I am told that loading it into Quicktime Pro, and then exporting it will give me lots of choices for settings, to optimize the quality and the speed for web viewing. A friend told me to use mp4 at 30 frame at 640 X 480 for acceptable quality. Youtube seems to agree with that. Unfortunately, The resultant quicktime export was a 74 mB file. That seems awfully large for the web. I also tried saving it directly from imovie as an "email", which doesn't allow any tweaking, and that version was 18 mB, and a bit small for web viewing.
This morning, I've looked through many posts here, but I can't find one place that gives clear opinions for settings for streaming video over the web. I realize there's a lot of choices, so opinions will differ. Nonethless, , but I'd really be happy to have just two or three choices, with all the Quicktime Pro settings spelled out for me. Can someone do that?
And lastly, what size — both file size and screen size — should I be using for this 11 minute web viewable film?

I have a similar problem with excessively large files resulting from use of the "export for web" function.
I have a range of self-contained quicktime movies averaging about 20MB in size. They are all encoded in MPEG4 or H264.
Exporting for "desktop" results in some files being over 75MB in size.
