OPTION 3 LIMITED AdSL Speed RESTRICTION ...

Hi Guys
My Option 3 LIMITED! 8mb Broadband service speed gone down By BT to 0.7 -1.5 mbps...
That happened 27-03-10 and today it's still same ....
Do you guys have any idea how long does this punishment is going to Last?
2nd of April and its still  Restricted to very Low speed for very High Price!
If I had a chance to move to Cable I will do it first thing in the morning but I'm not in the Cable area
I know It's Rude but I hate Bad Telecommunications and Their Call centres that located in India !
Thanx in advance for any info...

Did you not get a warning email from BT informing you when your usage hit 80gb and that if you hit 100gb in March you would have a speed restriction placed upon you? When you go over the 'fair usage' 100gb limit, BT restrict your speed between 5pm and 11pm to 1mbs. Its very very difficult for me to stay under under 100 gb having 4 teenagers and 5 pc's in the house. I was speed rescricted last month but as I remained under 100gb this last 30 days they have immediately lifted my restriction.
If you have had no mails from BT about usage, I suggest you leave a note in this thread for the moderators who can have a look at your account for you to see if there isnt another problem.
Hope this helps

  • BT has limited my speed even though I have upto 20...

I have an unlimited (upto 20mbs) broadband package. I was tired of the slow speeds and was really close to switching providers but the BT rep told me that he would ensure that my speed would be as high as possible for my area and offered me a monthly discount of sorts upon renewal.
However It is clear to me that BT are limiting my speed to 4 Mbs. I have complained twice to BT and have gotten nowhere.
There are 2 heavy internet users in the household and 4 Mbs shared between 2-3 people is not acceptable when we could have easily gone to another provider.
I suspect heavy users are PUNISHED by having their speed limited.
BT are clearly breaking the contract here, can i cancel and switch provider?
Or can a BT rep here help me fix the problem without me having to do so. thanks.

    welcome to the forum
in order for someone to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results .
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Do you have any phone extension sockets in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Do BT speed restrict you if you download 100GB d...

I'm just transferring my telephone line back to BT (from Sky), so that I can order BT Infinity, which has been enabled in my town in the last couple of days.
On the 1st September, when my line is re-connected to BT, I will be ordering BT Infinity Option 2.
I understand the FUP that BT will apply, which really p***es me off, as on my 4Mbps Sky ADSL2+ service, on average I download 150GB per month, although last month was a record for me at 350GB.
So as far as I understand it when I reach 100GB usage on BT Infinity (which given a 10x speed increase, I'm likely to hit 100GB in a couple of days), BT will slow me down during peak hours to 2Mbps down, and 1Mbps up, for a period of 30 days.. fine, well not fine, it's **** really, but I understand it will happen, so fine.
My question is this. If I download 100GB in the first 5 days of the month, then I will get speed restricted. During off-peak hours my speed will be unrestricted, and I can continue to download / upload at full speed. So let's say for the remaining 25 days of the month, I download a further 200 to 300GB. At the end of the 30 day speed restricted period, will BT then lift my peak hours speed restriction, even though I may have downloaded 200 - 300GB in the last 25 days.
What I'm trying to figure out is, will BT permanently speed restrict me if I continue to dowload more than 100GB during the 30 day speed restricted period?

Hey Guys i know im new here!
i have had the same problem with my business connection
i phoned the guys at bt business help centre 08456007020
and they said i had downloaded 121gb in 3 weeks and i was on maximum throttling at peak time for 30days
1 measly mbps it is **bleep**!
i am fed up with bt as i am sure everyone else is! they should take a leaf out of plusnet and do traffic management more their way!
with gaming prioritised at all times and have no limit on the speed's we get,
appart from slightly slower speed's in peak times say 10 - 25% less of the usual rate in peak times if the line is over 4mb
which i think is understandable and would love to hear your comments and also below is a bt speedtest result as of 22:43 29.09.2010
Download speedachieved during the test was - 952 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps

  • Limited burning speed

Every so often, I find that my burn speed is limited to 2x when burning from the desktop. If I use dvd studio pro, I get the option of faster write speeds. Same package of discs, it just seems to decide it wants to take it easy for the day & go slow. Any ideas?

It might be the type of data your trying to burn? Iv never had this happen to me when I burn discs. It could be that some of your discs in the package are slightly defective...
Sorry I couldn't shed any light
    Matt
P.S. This post talks about quality of discs. Iv found that sometimes the Pro applications let you get away with things that other apps wont.

  • Are the Finder Cover Flow options as limited as I think?

    Hello there,
Been a happy user of macs for about eight years now and do a lot of work in graphic design. As a result navigating folders and previewing content is very important to me and the ease of my work flow. I have to say however that while Finder provides a somewhat decent solution in 'Coverflow' I believe that it's far too limited in scope.
My main irk (if you will) is that while using cover flow the browsing option seems limited to the 'list' browsing method which, personally, I can't stand. I find it odd that there is no option to use Cover Flow with the column browser. Is this 100% the case? Or is there something I'm missing, maybe even a work around that allows me to do so (and no, not quicklook).
Honestly it doesn't strike me as something difficult to implement because both coverflow and columns already exist.
I'm sure that if such a feature existed I'd use and appreciate Cover Flow far more. Anybody else share this feeling?
Anyway back to the drawing tablet.
    Jas

Yes. The icon to switch between cover flow view and multicolumn view doesn't offer both. Whether or not it is a reason why, but you get a preview of the contents of the files when you select them in the column to their right in column view. List view doesn't offer you a preview except in coverflow. So coverflow is a way of giving List view a preview without destroying the integrity of the list.

If you right click on your clip, does it offer to Optimize Video? If so, after you optimize you can change the speed.

  • Lenovo G550 and Sagem Fast 800 ADSL modem - limits DL speed to approx. 500kbit/s

    Hi,
I bought Lenovo G550 on Tuesday and since then I've got a strange issue with my Internet connection. Until Tuesday I was using Sagem Fast 800 ADSL modem from my ISP on Toshiba Satellite A100-712 notebook since June 2008 with 1Mbit connection and everything was fine - DL speed was 128KB/s (1Mbit/s) as it should, but now on Lenovo the max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s (60KB/s) and I can't overcome it..
I've done the following so far:
    * I have tried on preinstalled  Windows Vista - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I have installed Windows XP Professional SP3, Sagem drivers installed properly, no unknown devices in device manager - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I have installed Windows 7 Professional, Sagem drivers installed properly, no unknown devices in device manager - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I've checked download speed on "real" downloads and DSL testing portals (dsl.cz, speedtest.pl, speedtest2.com) - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I have turned off energy saving on USB and ADSL modems on all 3 Windows OS mentioned, restarted the PC - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I have plugged and checked the download speed on all 3 USB ports - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I have installed cFosSpeed - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * I've called  the ISP, they checked the connection (1Mbit shown up in their tests), checked if there are any problems with their infrastructure (nothing was wrong), finally reset my port and asked to check my DL speed - max DL speed I get is ~500kbit/s
    * the ISP has sent an onsite technician, guy brought his own HP notebook and Sagem Fast 800 modem (just like mine) to check my connection - on his HP laptop both mine and his modems got 1Mbit/s DL speed, and when I tried both modems with my Lenovo G550, guess what -max DL speed I got was ~500kbit/s on both of them (so it's obvious that it's not modem, line or ISP's fault)
It seems that this issue is notebook related. I'm running out of ideas, the last thing I'm going to try today is to run Ubuntu LiveCD and check my DL speed then, but to be honest I don't expect it to change anything.
Could anyone possibly help me? It really sucks to pay for 1Mbit and have real download speed less than half of it.
    Regards,
    PW

  • On option 3 but BT have restricted my speed

    HI,
I thought option 3 was unlimited?? The internet at home gets used alot and at differnet times of the day hence my decision to get option 3, but I have been slowed down to 1Mbps.
What can be done to have this resolved? This is a pain and very irritating to say the least.
I would have phoned but I am at work and aware there are BT employees about.
    Thanks.

See below for the policy on this point:
    B. Network Management 4. What is BT's Traffic Management Policy?
BT continuously monitors network performance and reduces the speed available to very heavy users (typically less than 1 per cent of all customers) during a given month to ensure that the service received by other customers is not impacted through extremely heavy usage by a minority of people.
Customers who are classified as very heavy users will experience significantly reduced speed at peak times (typically 5pm-midnight every day but these times may change depending on the demand on the network) for a period of 30 days, or for as long as very heavy use continues. This applies to customers on all Options.
BT Total Broadband Option 3 and BT Infinity Option 2 allow unlimited downloads and uploads within the monthly rental price, so customers on these products will not be charged for over-use. However, this does not preclude BT from reducing your speed if you are a heavy user in order to protect the experience for the rest of our customers.
We may need to vary the policy from time to time to ensure the best possible experience for all our customers. This site will always be kept up to date with the latest information.

  • Is limiting network speed by setting adapter speed good? [SOLVED: yes]

i have an arch NAT router PC which has 3 network adapters present; "external" for my cable modem interface, "internal" for an internal subnet 172.16.0.0/16, and "wifi" which is a separate internal subnet 192.168.192.0/24 open wifi that I recently setup for guests and the like. the open wifi is explicitly barred access to the 172 network with iptables. i currently have a 50mbps down/10mbps up comcast internet connection. i have been limiting the open wifi's speed by setting the NIC designated for it to 10 mbps, just so that all of my bandwidth isn't completely eaten up. this appears to work completely fine; realistic speed is measured to around 8mbps throughput, which I consider fine for basic internet access.
i'm just curious whether this is an appropriate method to restrict bandwidth speed? i've read about something called "qdisc" which could limit speeds within iptables, is this a better way to accomplish this?

Luckily you are in the position of having a whole link that you want a hard limit on.
tc is more for traffic control between source and destination of packets going over the same link, or dynamic stuff. However, it will never be as trusted as a link set to a slower bit rate, and can be a pain to manage/T-Shoot.
Over the WAN traffic control is normally done with switching protocols like ATM and MPLS. However, even on large networks clients may be rate limited by the network admin simply setting the speed of their link slower in the configuration then what it can really handle.

  • More slow ADSL speed frustration

ok I guess this is where people vent their frustration with non-existent BT customer support. Here is one more story.
My ADSL/copper BB worked fine for months, close enough to its nominal 7Mbps downlink speed. Then on Sunday it dropped to 287kbps downstream rate.
I get this figure from a simple ADSL modem (D-link DSL 320b), wired directly into the ADSL OpenReach socket off the wall. Dedicated data socket, no filter, no extension, no local router, no local computer, nothing. As direct a measurement as you can get (I think).
I do not use HomeHub as I really like my PPPoE router (which feeds off the D-link modem). This automatically makes me ineligible for any free remote diagnostics, but never mind.
I reported this to BT in two ways:
    - "customer care chat line" -- this actually resulted in someone talking to me on the phone on Monday. He did not solve the problem, but gave me a customer care slot which has actually just expired now.  Have not heard from anyone.
    - Twitter @BTCare. This is a joke: you start interacting with a program that autogenerates reasonably-phrased tweets, until you realise you are getting nowhere. It's generic "we understand and will help" bol*cks.  Big waste of time.
So there are several possible interpretations:
    - BT has no clue and no interest in fixing problems for low-tier customers who are not on fiber. My take on this is that if you can't fix my simple copper BB, there is no way I am investing more money into BT and upgrade to their fiber plan
    - BT deliberately caps copper speed hoping that customers will upgrade. The guys on the chat / phone actually offered me Inifnity before even listening to my problem.  This would be a scam and will not work for me.
    anyone has got any suggestion?

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router  Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Bt will help you even though you are an adsl customer  if the forum members can't help then the mods who are BT employees will help
BT do not cap your speed but from the very brief information you have posted it is more likely your connection has been dropping and/or manual reset which has caused your noise margin to increase resulting in a lower connection speed.  this is an automatic processd to try and stabilise your conenction
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Speed restricted to 1250K

After 4 weeks my IP profile has been restricted to between 750K and 1250K. I am on Option 2 - up to 20mb.
My line is capable of apx 2mb - how do I get BT to raise my IP profile?
Whatever the restriction I achieve over 90% of my IP profile indicating that I can achieve more if this restriction is raised.
A pingtest rates my line as A so it is not a problem my end. My filters are brand new. My home hub is connected directly to the compter.

  • CS5 library HTML instances not getting updated (and font options are limited)

Having the following problems using FW CS5/Mac:
    1. Heading1 instances (created from Common Library -> HTML) are not reflecting updates to library item in Document Library.
To replicate: Drag a Heading1 element from the common library to document.  Create a few more instances of it in the document, using the one in your Document Library.  Now edit the library version. The instances on the page stay the same, they don't reflect updates.
    2. Symbol Properties for HTML elements has very limited options for Font.   'Heading1' has only Arial or Arial Black.  'Link' has those, plus Comic Sans (and Arial is listed twice).  There is nowhere else to customize symbols.
    3. Also, my Layers panel randomly disappears, even though Window->Layers is still checked. I have to restart to get it back.  Cursor also sometimes disappears and requires restart. Seems to happen whenever I add a Link (from Common Library).
Are there workarounds for these?  If they are documented bugs, is there a patch?
    Thanks for any help.
    Jeff

You can try editing the JSF file for the symbol - that's what controls the symbol properties. I'm not a coder, but I found that putting your preferred font at the beginning of the font list in the JSF list will solve the problem.
For example, I first saved a copy of the original script, then moved the Times Roman family to the beginning of the list and saved this version as the original script name. These scripts are found in the Fireworks application folder, inside Configuration > Common Library > HTML.
I restarted FW and when I dragged the H1 instance onto the canvas, it displayed Times immeditately.
Unfortunately, it deleted that family from the combo list, simply renaming it Arial - Helvetica - san-serif and placing it at the top of the list. So now I have 3 Arials - lol. The first one indicates the current font chosen (or it's supposed to) and the other two list my true Arial font family and the Times font family (renamed as Arial)  Haven't figure out how to fix that yet.
This change doesn't affect the preview image either, but there must be a way to alter it by editing the true symbol.
    HTH a little, at least.

  • Why on the Smart Playlist options more limited on Mac's iTunes vs. Windows iTunes? kind of Ironic?

I have been using iTunes since the iPod mini was introduced!  Over the years I have been a huge fan of making smart playlists! However the funny thing is... is that up until this year I have owned a PC and now that I own a MAC it is ironic that its version of iTunes LIMITS the options you have to make Smart playlist. The option that says "Match the [then you choose] following [or] all rules:"  is only given at the top of the list of parameters.  Where os on the PC version you can assign a parameter at the beginning starting with "Match all rules:"  followed by something like "Rating... 5 stars" then you can choose "Match the following rules:"  follows by a series of parameters; such as list various artists.  This allows you to customize a playlist of your favorite song by some of you favorite artists.  This is just one example... The "Match the 'following' vs. 'all' rules" (at any point in the sequense of rules, not just at the beginning) has really added to the dynamics (a new dimesion, if you will) of how I listen to music over the years.  It is kind of wierd that such an option does not appear available in iTunes on Mac computers.

It's still there on the Mac. As with many things on the Mac they kind of hid this feature. When making your smart playlist pressing the Alt/Option key on the keyboard will switch the "+" button to a "..." button to add another "Match" rule.

  • Best Option to Improve Computer Speed Using External Hard Drive?

    Hi!
My eMac's 80 gig hard drive is full - mainly due to music, movies and photos - so it is slow and I can't add new media. I cloned the whole hard drive to a 1TB external drive. The computer boots from the external drive. The hard drive is connected to the computer via a FireWire 800 to Firewire 400 adapter cable. I am running Leopard. My RAM is maxed out.
When I boot from the external HD, I seem to get a boost in performance but this seem intermittent and/or not substantial. I have not tested it with a stop watch yet.
I want to get the best performance from my machine. Please help me with the best option. What sounds best?
    1) Forget about cloning. Copy my music, movies and pictures to the external hard drive. Delete these media files from the original eMac to free up space. Run the eMac from the internal drive and access these files from the external drive.
    2) Boot from the cloned external hard drive and use computer like that.
    3) Will it help if the internal eMac HD is not so full? Does this matter if I am booting up from an external drive? Should I delete most or all files from the internal eMac HD and then boot the computer from the EXTERNAL drive? Would this speed things up?
    4) I am open to other suggestions.
The only reason I would not prefer option #2 is that I like to keep all my files on the same drive for backup purposes. I use Time Machine.
    Thanks!

Your Mac will run best and fastest if you run from the internal HD -- it's much faster than an external HD.
And it's best to keep at least 15% free on it; as your startup drive gets more full, your Mac will slow down. Just how much and when depends on a lot of things, but if it gets over 95% or so, it may get very sluggish, apps may hang or crash, data may be corrupted or lost, etc.
So your best bet would be a larger HD in your Mac. I don't know if that's possible or how much it would cost.
Second best would be to put selected data on an external HD, preferably not the one you use for Time Machine. As long as you format that HD for a Mac, Time Machine can back it up, along with your internal HD.
Put Music on the external for sure, and things like documents.
Photos and Video, maybe. Editing will be much slower on a F/W disk than your internal. So it might make sense to do editing on the internal, then put completed video on the external. You'll have to figure that out depending on what you're doing and how.
