OPtion 3 speed dropped to under 1Mbps

I test my connection speed regulalry and get about 10Mbps from my Option 3 package.
However, for the last 3 days I have been getting under 1Mbps at all times of the day.
How can I get this fixed?
Thanks
Bob

  • Wireless speed dropping to 5.5Mbps

    Hi Folks,
I like the ArchLinux distribution and have enjoyed it for a few years now.
But recently I noticed my wifi speed dropping like crazy, I reinstalled my router (DD-WRT) but that didn't fix anything.
So I tried something else, I booted to Windows and I found that I had normal speeds (54Mbps) during the span of an hour.
Afterwards I rebooted back to linux, and the speed immediately dropped to 5.5Mbps
This started about 1 or 2 weeks back, I'm guessing after some pacman update..
Are there any regression or new bugs known which affect my performance?

  • Broadband speeds dropped

I'm sorry if this has been posted before but it could of taken a while to find a thread on exactly the same subject as mine
I got BT Broadband, Option 3 last month. When I signed up I was told I could get upto 7.5MB download speeds and for the last month I have been getting speeds of around 5 - 6.9MB which I was very happy about but over the last few days I have seen my speed drop to around 1.7 - 1.9MB and in 1 case as low as 0.7MB.
My phone still works so I don't think there is a problem with my phone line, I don't believe there is a problem with my router but just so you know I have the HomeHub 2.0
. I recently did a speed test on the BT website and it claims I can get upto 8MB which is 0.5 more than a month ago so is it possible that the exchange has had some work done on it and it will just take a few days for things to get back to normal? I would appreciate any help that you could give me

  • Updated to OS 10.7.3; fan runs constantly and battery life dropped to under 2 hours when 100% charged. How do I get back to 10.7.2, I don't have a backup prior to this upgrade. This is a newer Macbook Pro 13", no modifications.

Help! This new version of Lion is making me miserable. The fan runs constantly, the computer is hot and battery life has dropped to under 2 hours on a fully charged battery. I updated yesterday, nothing but misery today. Even running the mail program alone make the fan run like I have everything open. Using Pages, iPhoto, and iTunes simultaneously makes the computer blistering hot.Yesterday, I could use all three without any trouble. Any suggestions to either jettison 10.7.3 or how to fix without any expense? I haven't modified this computer at all, it is as it came from the box in August 2011: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB 1333 Mhz DDR3.

I updated to Lion 10.7.3 and started noticing my fans running on high all the time and my battery would drain 2-3x faster.  I was going to take my computer into an Apple store until I found this thread.  I did the SMC reset by shutting down my computer, plugging it in, and then pushing down shift+control+option while also pushing down the power button.  Nothing happens on the screen and the computer did not turn on.  I then released all the buttons at once after holding them down for 10 seconds.
After that, I simply turned my computer back on and everything seems to be working fine.  The  fans are not blasting anymore.  I have a newer MacBook Pro where I can't access my batteries.  The SMC reset may differ for other types of laptops.

  • When I double-click the gold star to bookmark a site and click "Choose", none of my current folders appear in the drop-down under Bookmarks Menu.

Running 3.6.12 on Windows XP in my brand-new HP 6000 Pro, and when I double-click the gold star to bookmark a site, 5 of my 80-odd folders appear in the drop-down under Bookmarks Menu. But then, when I click "Choose", no list of current bookmarks appears, so I have to bookmark every time under "Unsorted", then drag each bookmark to its correct folder. What am I doing wrong? I use Firefox on my other 2 systems, and every folder appears on the drop-down, just like it should.

I don't use Xmarks, so I don't know whether that is a factor here...
If you use Ctrl+d on a bookmarked page, does the Edit Bookmark dialog appear?
Firefox doesn't have a convenient way to determine the location of a bookmark. One workaround is to use the extension [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/show-parent-folder/ Show Parent Folder] to add a column in the Library dialog showing the location of a bookmark. Then when you use the search function or Recently Bookmarked query, you should be able to discover the location.
The extension shows just the folder name by default. If that isn't unique enough, you can change a setting for the extension so it shows the full path down to that folder. To set this, open the Add-ons page, Extensions category, and use the Options button for Show Parent Folder.

  • I want to Save As a PDF every time, no options in a drop down

Recently got a new computer, and now when I save a PDF under a different name (protocol reasons) when I click on Save As it gives me a list of options in a drop down box: Reduced size PDF, Certified PDF, Reader extended PDF, Optimized, Image, Word, etc.
Is there a way to set a default in Preferences or somewhere so it will save as a PDF every time? I would rather spend the time looking for a way to save my PDF as a different kind of file then spend the time selecting PDF whenever I save a PDF under a different name.
Even just hitting A, then P is getting to be a pain.

It could be this crosstalk, I have been the only one in the area to have Fibre, but 2 neighbors have just had it installed in the last 2 weeks.
Thankfully I was told by BT that I could attain between 70-76MB so if it drops again Ill back on to them I guess.
*(EDIT) Actually looking at my logs I have a screnshot of the speed estimate when I first signed up for the service to be 76-80MB and 20MB up.
    Max attainable data rate has gone from 76xxx / 90xxx to - 25xxx / 71xxx
Ill be keeping a close eye on this for sure.
It may not seem like a large drop, but going from 76mb to 70mb results in a speed drop of around 12-15% my download speeds were 9MB/s they are now 8MB/s.
This also answers the lack of feedback from the forum reps and moderators I guess as a known problem they just keep sthum about it.
    Kinda discusting really.
So afaik they are already in breach of their contract I signed up for?

  • I have recently downloaded iOS 8 and there is no longer a Print Option in chrome drop down menu

Since I down loaded iOS 8 there is no longer a print option in the drop down menu of my Chrome Browser. Under the 3 horizontal lines in the right hand corner ?

You did not say if you installed a carrier update. Are you using an unlocked phone? Does your carrier require you to manually set your APN settings? If you do not know what it is then you don't. Have you checked with your carrier? An MMS with iMessage is handled differently than an MMS with the carrier. Since your iMessage is working, contact your carrier and have them check the provisioning on your account. They may need to do a reset on their end, since SMS/MMS is a carrier function.

  • Up to 17Mbps advertised - under 1Mbps delivered!

    Can anybody please help?!!
I switched to BT about 7 weeks ago and initially I received 2-4Mbps depending on the time of day. Despite this being only a fraction of the 17Mbps they advertise I was happy because I could watch iPlayer.
A few days ago my connection slowed down to under 1Mbps regardless of the time of day, and not only is it completely unacceptable but also incredibly frustrating! I have tried everything. I've plugged into the test socket, I've reset the router, unplugged the phone, but I can't get the speed back up to an acceptable level. I'm only 300m from the exchange.
Here are the results from the BT Speedtest:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 363 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 4000-21000 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :1149 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1059 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 10000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 61.69:4.67:33.76 (SBE:NBEBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
    >Upload speed achieved during the test was - 866 Kbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 1059 Kbps
I know it's only sold on an 'up to' basis, but under 1Mbps is hardly anywhere near 'up to' 17Mbps! It's flagrant false advertising surely? Why not say up to 1,000,000Mbps - it's about as achieveable!
I need to get my broadband up to a workable speed asap, is there anything I can or BT will do?
    Many thanks,
    Simon

  • DVD burning speed dropped

I have a powerbook and when i first got it and went to burn a dvd i had the option of a drop down menu box and it would show up to 8x for burning. Using the same media when i go to burn in the box it just goes to 2x anyone have a clue as what happen?
    Thanks
    Paul

In Toast you can select the burn speed you want up to the maximum your Superdrive will allow.
But there is a lot to be said for using lower burn speeds: 2x or 4x max.
Using 16x DVD media is fine - in fact it is difficult to buy any other - but there is a consensus in the Apple Support Forums that a slower burn is a better burn and that the most reliable brands are Verbatim, Maxell and Fuji, all DVD-R, burned at 2x or 4x (slow burns are better burns!). I always use Toast for burning.
I generally use Verbatim and when I can't get those, Fuji, and have never had a coaster from either.
Plenty of coasters in the early days from Sony, TDK and a few others.
The term "Best" means the fastest speed that the drive told Toast it can write to a specific disc. The drive's firmware and info on the disc decide what speed burns are available. When you press the speed setting button in Toast (after inserting a disc) you'll likely see some speeds in italics and some in bold face. The ones in bold face are supported by that media on that drive. The fastest one is what Toast calls Best.
Audio CDs in particular should be burned at the lowest supported speed.
Verification is a good indicator the disc is burned okay. However, other DVD players can still have problems with the disc. Media problems with various drives is not uncommon. Slower burning may reduce the chance of those problems, and is one of the reasons why RW (read/write) media is always rated slower than DVD-R.
There are some interesting facts here:
    http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa4.htm and here:
    http://www.osta.org/technology/dvdqa/dvdqa4.htm
But many will tell you that the 'slower burn is best' theory is outdated, as in this useful article:
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/guides/media/dvd-media-concepts.htm
Who really knows? At the end of the day, if your home-made DVD was verified by Toast and will play anywhere on anybody's DVD player, then that is the result we are all after!

  • Broadband speed drops from 4mb to less than 0.5mb ...

    Hello forum readers,
I am having speed problems since early December where during the day time my download speed is 4mb.  However, after 7:30pm the speed then drops very quickly to below 0.5mb.  I did a speed test just now and it is:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 268 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :5344 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4500 Kbps
I have tried calling India technical support, all I got was "we are looking into the problem" over the weeks.  Very frustrating as it is so difficult to understand them.  They keep giving me excuses as to the causes.  Today I am told there is a problem with the exchange. I asked when can this be fixed by, the response was they are not going to fix it as the equipment is very expensive to replace.
I am so frustrate by all their so uncaring attitude that I have obtained a MAC code tonight.  Will a different provider be any different if the problem is with the exchange?
Has any forum readers experience this speed dropping problem?  I can understand if the speed drops due to higher demands in the evening, but with this slow speed it is impossible to use the internet for anything meaningful as a web page took over 40 seconds to load.
I am on the unlimited Option 3, and my exchange is Poplar, London.
Is there a BT moderator on this forum who can help me resolve this speed problem please?
    Thanks.

    Hello peeps,
An update on my slow down boardband connection...
I have reported the problem to "No Help Indian Technical Support" since 11 December, still no resolution!
I was told to wait until the end of February as work on the exchange may take place to increase capacity.  Nobody called to update me on what is happening since my last post.  Called Indian support for an update (17 March) only to be told my case was closed and problem resolved on the 28 February!
Then I asked to speak to a supervisor and the guy literally cut me off.  All I wanted to ask was why they think the problem was resolved when I am still getting the same slow down every evening.  I tried calling them again, but useless idiots who would make you answer their scripts again, but still they can't give me an update or what are they going to do about the problem.
I am at a loss in how to obtain an update from them.  I am sure many of you who have the experience of calling Indian will end up with frustrations.  They will try their best to ignore you especially with questions they have not a clue in answering.  Every time they say they will call back, but no they don't.
Why is BT technical support be handled by such non-technical idiots?  The minute they have ran of scripts to follow then you are speaking to a blank wall.
Anyone here know of a complaint number I can call or email?
    Thanks.

  • Infinity speed dropped

does anybody know why my actual speed is far less than when i first had infinity installed.i have rang several times and spoken to an advisor but am non the wiser.for the first few months i was on 18mb download as i was estimated (slow area),then for months since i am now on 10mb.after phone calls and resets it goes back up again for a few hours then just drops right down again.advisers never give me an explanaition.im pretty sick of paying all this money for unlimited infinity when my speeds dropped so much, was quite happy with 18 download

As usual, visiting this site is a waste of time. 'Connect via ethernet cable' to do a test. Oh, yes, I'll just send my new tablet back and ask for something put on the market in the 20th century so that I can check my rubbish BT Infinity connection.
My BT Infinity connection is rubbish. It was always awful, but now it's rubbish. If I do a series of speed tests using Speedtest.net seconds, minutes, hours or days apart, the results are all over the place. One moment I can get 6mbps (which is good for me), then it is 0.6, then 20, then 8, and maybe once a day I can stubble upon a 36 or 48. (Once, it was over 50.)
It is not possible to watch TV on my computer, as it stops to wait or stream for 5 seconds out of every 15 seconds of broadcast. That's unusable.
The switch from awful to rubbish coincided with my phone connection going off for a day (broadband was still on). The phone came back, then went off again, then came back. The line is so noisy at times that I have to terminate calls, and I am told that sometimes dialing my number results in nothing happening at all.
I have already wasted a couple of hours mucking about on BT sites, clicking that and clicking that, and anything that purports to do any sort of test comes back saying all is well.  Well, well it isn't.
And now that I have no site hosting option at BT I have no reason to stay with BT.
I'll keep a record of my speeds, refuse to pay for a service I am not getting, demand a refund (talk to the legal department:  they just love to talk about contracts and consumer law and all that sexy stuff), then go to another provider.
UNLESS, a BT modertator reads this, decides that BT should really provide a decent service to the people who pay for it, and put my so-called Infinity service to a speed that is over 50mbps 9 out of every 10 times I check it, never dropping below, let's say, 20. That would be satisfactory.
By the way, when I was on my previous tarrif, BT told me that I would make a saving switching to Infinity. My bills are almost double what they were.

  • Drop down under the apple not opening...

I can get the drop down under Finder and the other options but then I click on the apple it highlights it but doesn't open the drop down.

    Hi c,
I hope a brody won't mind if I make a suggestion. PRAM deals with the "Menu blink count." I do not know if your MBP's issue is related, but it sounds close enough that I would try a PRAM Reset. It will only take a minute, and if it doesn't work, nothing hurt. If it does, you're all set.

  • Fibre speed drop this weekend 4th & 5th July 2015.

My monthly average according to SamKnows is 27.33 Mbps. At 23.00 Friday 3rd July it was 28.01 Mbps. But by 0500 Saturday 4th July it was 12.12 Mbps.By 1900 on the 4th it was 9.81 Mbps. But at 0900 Monday 6th it is back at 29.54 Mbps. Why when I do get speed drops it seems to always be at weekends?

It could be a number of reasons from exchange congestion which would be more noticable at the weekends when more people are using the service during the day/evening or it could be planned/unplanned maintenance at the exchange or even excess wireless interference(if your only using wireless connections).
If its constantly slow every weekend then it points more towards congestion/interference than maintenance Sky can help with congestion so reporting it to them directly would be your only option,if its wireless interference then there is nothing Sky can do to help.
You will need to report it to Sky
