Option-click on html link brings up alert of downloading application-why?

Only recently has this happened. I option click a link on a web page that should download as an html file. When that happens, it starts to download and then a message from the downloads window appears asking "abc.html" is an application. Are you sure you want to download the application "abc.html"? This happens at home on an intel iMac 24", Safari 3.04. and at work on a Dual 2GHz Power PC G5, Both on Tiger, 10.4.11. Option-click a pdf, swf and mp4 files download without error. Any help is appreciated. Its frustrating!
Is there a way to attach a screen shot to this message?

This just began happening to me as well, although I have had many problems downloading since the Safari Upgrade. Sometimes when I click a link to download a PDF file (using option click) I get the same message about it being an application. I tried it and the download I got was an unreadable HTML file, not PDF which is what I want. If I just click the PDF link, all I get is a black, blank screen. Any advice out there?

  • Clicking on HTML links in Entourage opens Internet Connect.

Help.. Whenever I click on a link that is in an Entourage email Internet Connect opens instead of Safari. I am using a powerbook g4 with the latest Tiger update and the latest Microsoft office updates. The powerbook is connected by Ethernet and Safari is able to access the web. Airport is turned off and the modem is not connected. I can copy and paste the links into Safari with success but I would rather Internet Connect not open everytime I select a link. Very frustrating.

Do you use the Internal Modem on a regular basis for anything such as receiving or sending faxes?
If not and the Internal Modem Network Port configuration is active, try deactivating the Internal Modem via System Preferences > Network and deactivate any other Network Port configurations that you don't regularly use if active.

  • When clicking on a link, the results go to download folder; how do I get the results to display on my monitor?

When clicking on a link within our Website, the PDF results go to my download folder. To view my PDF results, I am required to go to my Adobe Reader and open that corresponding PDF file. It would be great if I could simply view the PDF on the screen without having to go to Adobe Reader (v. 10.1.4). Thanks for any assistance or guidance on this issue.

    Hello,
    Check your PDF settings at:
    * Tools (or [[Image: New Fx Menu]]) > Options > Applications
It might be set to "Save", change it to "Preview in Firefox" or any other alternative of your choice.
Let us know if that solves your issue!

  • Whenever I click on a link in an e-mail, "no application found" pops up.

Google Chrome downloaded automatically when I installed another program. After that, whenever I clicked on an e-mail link, my browser became Google Chrome. I unistalled Google Chrome. Since uninstalling Google Chrome, I can not open email links. The box with "no application found" comes up.

it seems possible that there was some corruption in your system (registry) and once you uninstalled Internet Explorer, your system didn't have any choice but to insist on opening web pages in the default browser (in your case, FireFox)
There are numerous ways to 'screw up' defaults - both as DEFAULT PROGRAMS, and as ASSOCIATED FILE TYPES (Control Panel)
If messing with the control panel doesn't work, another idea is to: SET INTERNET EXPLORER as Default, check to see that it works as expected, reboot your machine, SET FIREFOX as Default; reboot.
Win8 [ Control Panel \ All Control Panel Items \ Default Programs ]
Uninstalling may not be an ideal fix for those who use Internet Explorer occasionally --- as i do for "Print Selected" : I.E. allows you to "Print Selection" of text/images on a web page, and then VIEW (Print Preview) the selection and adjust the margins and 'Scale' so as to fit your selection in the correct SIZE and the correct NUMBER of pages. None of the plugins/extensions for FF seem to do this properly (in my experience).
Nonetheless (if you need Internet Explorer), it may be possible for users to do as "NIGH" has pointed out (uninstall Internet Explorer), reboot, and then immediately reinstall it. This may 'FIX' the OPEN IN [default] BROWSER issue (you might still have to go in and select FF as default), but you might have to accept other complications with the use of Internet Explorer - i.e. the different preferences that I.E. uses (that you had set before uninstalling) may have to be 're-selected' or 're-implemented'.
as always, 'your mileage may vary'

  • Upon notification that a pre-ordered book was ready for download by clicking on a link, the book failed to download. The link sent me back to the store. How can I activate the download?

I pre-ordered a book. I was notified it was ready for download. When I clicked on the link to download it failed to download. Instead, it took me to the store.
How do I get my pre-ordered book without paying twice?

    Hello Jonagolds
Your purchase should show up as something that you could download again. Check out the article below on how to do that across all devices and in iTunes. If that is not the case and you do not see it, then report the issue to the iTunes Store for further assistance.

  • I can no longer open pdfs in Firefox. I don't get an error message. Nothing happens when I click on the link. Same problem with downloads.

Never had a problem like this before, I was always able to open a pdf or download a file from any site. I used Firefox exclusively to download my credit card statements, bills, etc. but I can no longer do this.

    Hi lornetz,
Have you looked at the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] Knowledge Base article? There is some good troubleshooting information in there. They also list 2 different PDF plugins. I'd try both just to be safe.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • I am using CGI Vis examples in LV6.1, and the VI simply opens when I click on a link. What am I doing wrong?

I am running Labview 6.1 and am simply trying to learn about the CGI VIs from the examples. I set up the Web Server root directory and I have the cgi-bin directory in it. When I view the provided index.htm file using http://localhost/index.htm, I see the web server document (so the server is working???). I go to the CGI examples and click on the link for CGI Basics. Everytime I click on the link, the vi tries to download with a prompt for SAVE or OPEN. If OPEN is selected the vi opens but does not run. I thought it might be a problem with the browser being on the same machine, so I went to a machine without Labview installed and it still tries to download th
e vi locally from the server. I assumed from the documentation that the vi runs on the server and sends a request back in html form. I must have missing something or setup wrong. Any help would be deeply appreciated!
    Setup (In case it matters)
    Labview 6.1
    Internet Developers Toolset 5.0
Windows XP Pro and Windows 2000 Pro (Tried both)
    Internet Explorer 6.0
    Happy New Year to all!!!

I am not sure what the problem could be and I am a little confused about the exact steps you took. I launch LabVIEW, start the HTTP server, point my web browser to http://localhost/index.htm. This brings of a page entitled G Web server. I click on the button to "View CGI Examples" which redirects by browser to http://localhost/examples/index.htm . I click on CGI Basics and go to http://localhost/examples/basics.htm .
This page has four groups of examples and within each group there are several examples. All of the examples I clicked on redirected my browser. Is this what you see?
Was the message to save or open from the browser or from LabVIEW? If it was from LabVIEW, then you might consider mass compiling the VIs on your computer. You can do this
by opening LabVIEW >> tools >> advanced >> mass compile.
You might also try a reinstall of the Internet Toolkit. The examples may have been corrupted.
Finally, LabVIEW 6.1 introduced remote front panels. You might find them easier to use than CGI scripting.

  • Flash hijacking HTML links while images are loading

I've designed a slide show player using Flash and Actionscript 3.0 which loads several external images. While the images are loading, the HTML links on my page (outside of the Flash movie) don't work. As soon as all the images are loaded, the links start working again. It seems like the Flash player is hijacking the browser while the images are loading which can take the better part of a minute depending on my connection speed. I can click an HTML link once during the loading time and as soon as the images have loaded, the browser loads the new page (the one the HTML links to). Once all the images are in my Temporary Internet Files folder, this problem ceases to exist (since the images no longer need to be downloaded). It's only first-time viewers that will have this problem, but it's a pretty major problem.
To see what I'm talking about, go to:
    http://www.ericlindberg.com/indexTemp.html
Click the Images button after the "Loading..." animation disappears but before all the images are loaded. As the images load the thumbnails at the bottom of the Flash player go from 50% to 100% opaque. If  you click the "Images" button before all the thumbnails are 100% opaque, nothing happens. However, once they are all loaded and the thumbnails are all 100% opaque, the "Images" page loads. You can do the same thing with any of the subpages in the Images section of the site and get the same results.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have something similar on my site.

You might try using CSS rollovers instead of MM (javascript) rollovers.  Straight HTML links load fast and work immediately.

I got a suggestion on the Dreamweaver Forum:
"...You could write some code inside the Flash item, that detects bandwidth and only loads images with delay, when the connection is idle. I'm sure you can find enough examples of such behaviors in pre-loader samples of any kind and some of it is already pre-defined in later versions of Flash..."
Can anyone tell me how to write this code or point me to some examples that use it?

  • Html:link action html:link on results page null

I am sure that this is something simple and small but I have been banging my head against this problem for a while now.
I am using the <html:link> tag on my index.jsp page activates an action, retrieves a result and forwards to the homePage.jsp. • Clicked on spam link!!!

I did a really silly thing by clicking on a link in what even a short peruse of the email would have told me was part of what I moments later looked up and determined was a
    USPS scam email
I'm actually expecting an important doc in the mail and that prompted me to click before thinking.  I clicked on a link that said it would open a window and allow me to print pertinent info to take to my post office.  Instead, it of course opened a web page and put up a 404 Error instead.
I work on a MacBook Pro with the latest OS x 10.9.2 and have an up to date version of Intego Internet Security.  I've run a complete scan with today's (4/10/14) virus definitions and it finds nothing but is that good enough???
I also have 4 different versions of Windows available to run under VMware (XP, 7, 8 and 8.1).  But those weren't running and I never use mail under those Windows OS's anyway.
The mail client I use on the Mac side is Apple Mail.
I've been hearing these scam emails plan malware that can steal usernames and passwords.
    1.  Is there a name for some certain piece of malware that I should be aware of???  Or are there many and one can't tell which one or ones might be with any particular email??
    2.  Is my Mac at risk??
    3.  Does Intego tell me it find nothing a true sign that the Mac is not infected???  Or no???
    thanks...  Feeling foolish...  bob...

Yes, that's all I did was click on a link.  But more out of curiosity than anything, when I clicked on that link, did it not likely download something, granted maybe an exe file that won't run on the mac, but isn't such a file likely sitting somewhere right now on my mac??
I did a search on exe and it found 9 total, every one of which I know what they are and why they are on my mac.  So does such a file download even if it can't run???  If so, where might it go to hide???  Possible to know or not???
So to say it differently, when you click on a link you shouldn't in an email, you work on a Mac but the malware is intended for a PC what happens with the intended download??? Does it just not happen or what???

  • I just upgraded to Firefox 3.6.13 this morning and now, when I click on a link in an email or webpage, it won't open Firefox. How can I get this option restored in Firefox so I don't have to copy and paste the link?
