Option dragging to copy regions

I'm finding it really annoying that when I want to option drag a region to copy it, the dialog box that tells it's current location doesn't show up until I start to move the region. It would be helpful to know that before I start moving.

This sounds like you have might have turned on one of the "accessibility' features of OS X..
or...
Did you install something else just prior to this problem occuring? It could well be the cause of the issue if you did so.....

  • How do I turn "option drag a copy" back on

Somehow through some accidental keyboard shortcut, I turned off the ability to option drag an object.
    Thanks, Jon

    Scott,
Also, I updated my profile with my stats. Thanks for pointing that out.
Nobody’s going to check your stats before responding to a question, and nobody’s going to remember you next time you have a question. Post OS and versions EACH TIME you have a question. I encourage people to put at least the version in the post title, e.g.: “CS3: Option drag to copy not working”. This particular post has the benefit of identifying the general OS (Macintosh), although the specific version should be part of the post somewhere.

  • Finder locks after option dragging to copy

The Finder is driving me nuts. I've had various problems with Finder, but the most disturbing one right now is Finder freezing when I copy files by option dragging them to another folder. It usually requires dragging more than one file, but has occurred when copying a single one. The "ghost" of the files I'm moving appears at the cursor, but upon trying to "drop" them into the new folder, the "ghosts" freeze in place and the finder becomes partially responsive. I can move, close and create new folders, but can no longer move or copy any files. I can rename files. The "ghosts" do not move, even when closing the underlying folder or anything else around them. They stay frozen on the monitor screen until I relaunch the Finder. At that point, the files have been appropriately copied to the new folder. This is happening regularly and predictably in both an administrator account and a non-administrator account. I have deleted every preference I can find that might remotely have anything to do with copying. My software is up to date. I installed Totalfinder (which I love, BTW) to see if that would make any difference and it doesn't. This problem, along with Apple's new versioning mandate, has slowed my work style down to a crawl. Any help would be appreciated. If you can solve this, I'll hang a picture of your avatar on my wall and salute it every evening.

I was just suggesting the file copy/paste as a work-around, in case no real solution was forthcoming.
Anyway, I should be able to option drag like I've done for many years, don't you think?
Yes, I do think so too! Have you filed a stern-but-polite complaint to Apple's Feedback page?
Of course, I also think we should be able to NOT have auto-save and we SHOULD have Save As, so obviously I'm just a dinosaur.....
And I too find the revised way the drag 'n drop things work silly at best, and distracting at worst. All the jiggling about nonsense, which appears all thru the interface, is yet one more reason I prefer to do actual work in Snow Leopard. With an older Mac Pro I can boot into whichever OS I want.

  • Bug: option dragging audio regions doesn't preserve fadeins and fadeouts

I just noticed that when I option drag some audio regions, sometimes either the fadein or fadeout is lost. Usually it disappears on the copy, but sometimes the copy is fine but the original loses the fade.
Anyone else see this problem? Is it new to 8 or has it always been there? Any suggested workarounds? I tried using copy/paste instead of option drag, but that doesn't work since it creates clones instead of copies. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bump...has anyone else seen this problem, or is it unique to my setup?

  • No luck copying regions

    Hi,
Ive tried option click to copy regions & all it does is drag the region. any help?
Ive managed to do it via the local region menu but would like to be able to do it either way.
    cheers
    Rob

Hmm, I had overlooked that there was a small error log created. It says
sieve: info: started log at Apr 06 04:05:53.
main_script: line 8: error: require command: unknown Sieve capability 'imapflags'.
main_script: line 8: error: require command: unknown Sieve capability 'notify'.
    main_script: error: validation failed.
    Line 8:
    require ["fileinto","envelope","reject","vacation","imapflags","relational","comparator -i;ascii-numeric","notify","body"];
I removed those and tested and it works (at least with one simple test)

  • I intermittently cannot option+drag shapes, or even drag a copied object. Instead Illustrator will try to enact re-sizing or rotation.

This is so frustrating, having never had this issue in any prior versions of illustrator.
I'm using Illustrator CC, on a Macbook Pro Retina (newest), on OSX 10.10.2 ... using the trackpad for now in lieu of my tablet or mouse (suspecting that this might be the issue).
As I said in the title, very frequently, I'll go to option+drag an object to copy it and instead of it dragging out a new copy, it tries to either rotate or stretch the object instead. This is in every different file I try to work on. I'll try to do it the old fashioned way of cmd+C, cmd+F and then dragging it, but this too seems to run into the same issue. Dragging the newly copied object instead enacts rotation or stretch tools.
I'm sure you can appreciate how maddening this can be if you're accustomed to quickly multiplying lots of little objects on screen.
    Thanks!

  • NO Option/Drag to make a copy of a clip in time line

Sorry for what may be a very basic question but in several other programs that I use, pressing Option while dragging a selection will make a copy of the selection and place it where the mouse is released.  Does Premiere have something like this for dragging and copying a clip in the time line?
    Cris is Bliss

Alas, Premiere has no such drag-'n'-copy option. The closest you can get is using Ctrl/Cmd+C to copy your clip instance in the timeline, and then positioning the CTI where you want the copy to appear and pressing Ctrl/Cmd+V to paste. Be sure your tracks are targeted properly before pasting.
I, for one, would like to see this option in CS5... do what the cool kids do and make a feature request

  • Option + Drag notes in Matrix editor problem

I cant say when this started but at some point holding option while dragging a note to copy it stopped working as expected. Basically I want to copy a note in the matrix editor and I want it to go where I drag it (am I asking too much?). Right now as soon as I drop the note in the desired position it jumps forward several beats. Did I do something that changed the way the option key works? If I just drag the note without holding option the note goes where I want it. But as soon as I option + drag. I get this wackyness!! its hugely frustrating! Thanks in advance for any help.

Well I have a workaround now but am still confused. I discovered that if I click the little button "featuring a square graphic" in the upper left corner of my matrix window (manual says its called the "Up One Display Level button—or
UDL button"), it fixes the problem... for that matrix edit window only. As soon as I close it and reopen it (by double clicking on a midi region) it goes back into crazy freak **** mode. Something else I noticed is that when I reopen the matrix editor window the little screen read out area (that displays the notes etc under Edit/Functions/View) says "sel 1" right above the notes etc. It says this when its in crazy freak **** mode. When I click the UDL button it changes from "sel 1" to "1/AudioInst 1" which is the instrument for the midi Im working on. So how do I get crazy freak **** mode to stop messing up my matrix editor windows? Its great to have a workaround but its a pain in the butt to have to remember to push this button ( that I never needed to push before) so I can properly option+drag a midi note. I tried reading the manual about this button but I just dont get what its for (other than turning off freak **** mode). And I forgot to mention my logic version before: Logic version 7.2.1 (959.30) Thanks again in advance if you can help me:)

  • I'm trying to drag with the wireless mouse. But the item i'm dragging is copied instead of moved

I'm trying to drag with a wireless mouse. But the item i'm dragging gets copied in the new location instead of moved to the new location.

If you drag to another folder it moves.  If you drag to another disk, it copies.
This can be modified by certain control keys:
    Command key while dragging
Move dragged item to other volume/location (pointer icon changes while key is held--see this article)
    Option key while dragging
Copy dragged item (pointer icon changes while key is held--see this article)
    Option-Command key combination while dragging
Make alias of dragged item (pointer icon changes while key is held--see this article)

  • Using Alt+Drag to Copy A Layer

When I'm make a copy of a layer by using the Alt key and left-click dragging, the copied layer is placed above the current layer. Is there a way to make this copied layer below the current layer (without having to manually move it below)?
The same question applies towards copy/paste pixels. Everything seems to be added above (which I can understand that reasoning), but for the majority of why I would use alt+drag to make copies of layers, I want those layers placed below the current layer.
    Thanks in advance.
    *this applies to CS4

Actually, that method gets the end-result I wanted. I got so used to doing most everything on the canvas, I didn't think about the layers palette in that sense (I just needed to be refreshed on that option).
Thanks... I guess for the copy/paste (I can easily just use the keyboard shortcut to move the layer down).

  • Option-Drag; Drag and Drop Timecode

Trying to copy tiimecode from one window to another. When I option-drag and drop it in the destination window it pops in with about 4 seconds subtracted. It's not a consistent difference, but always close to 4 seconds. Cut and paste (Apple+C; Apple+V) works.
    FCP 4
    OS 10.3.9
I could give you particulars but this isn't a major issue. It would just save some time in this tedious workflow if I could option-drag. I've searched several boards and help files. Does anyone know if these types of functions -- option-drag, control-click, etc are the domain of FCP or Mac OS? Could be either, or, depending, maybe, I suppose, which is why this may be a futile search. Thanks.
    Greg

    Sure Stephanie,
Attached is a VI I threw together to illustrate the issue.  My code (deliberately) doesn't try to handle the drop properly, it just illustrates the lack of button change.
Note that my main project code implements the workaround of using a shift register to store the original button value (and then the drag data cluster to store it for final use).

  • Some objects can't be selected when cloned (option drag) CS5

    Hi There,
Several times in CS5, I've noticed that some objects disappear or can't be selected after they've been copied or cloned.
I can't work out if the issues are related but I did notice that objects which disappear seem to have something to do with reordering automatically in the layers palate. For example, after copying or cloning, an object will move under an object even though it wasn't under it before copying.
As for not being able to select objects, I currently have a line which I can't select after I optioned dragged it to a new location. At first I thought it had gone under another object as per the issues above but after hitting Command Y, I can see it but can't select it.
Have triple checked that the line isn't locked - is there another command I might've hit that might lock an object or stop it from being edited?
    Anyway, all suggestions welcome!
    Cheers
    Ben

Can anyone explain to me what is happening or how I can avoid having these adjacent objects show up on this file? I don't want to open and close each single artboard file because I have hundreds of them.
Looks like that file got corrupt.
Copy the one object from the problem file into a new file.
    Then delete the problem file.

  • "option+drag" audio vs. time machine?

I have used the "option+drag" to adjust the length of audio regions, stretching the audio itself. I can definitely notice a change in pitch. I am not stretching it far. Would I have better results maintaining the integrity of the audio by instead using the time machine to lengthen the audio region/file? Let's say for instance I am working on an audio file that is a sampled portion of a classical string piece.

EEK, no i didn't know i could use a different algo with the Option+drag approach. Not sure what Melodyne has to offer, if it means money, no thanks, I'm better off setting my tempo and whatnot so it matches better. I honestly didn't have a big problem with OPtion drag, I just read up on the Time machine and thought maybe it was a better option.

  • Moving album images - option-drag?

Does anyone know how I can move (cut, not copy) images from one album to another in Aperture 3?
Option-dragging an image has been an important part of my workflow so far in Aperture 2, but I understand that you can't do this in Aperture 3? (I'm about to upgrade)

Aperture 3 does have a few things that work in different ways than Ap2, but dragging images to albums is the same. Cut/copy has never been a feature. It works in a different way. Allan
