Option to backup lrcat when quitting LR

i would prefer the automated backup of the lightroom catalog occur when i am quitting LR rather than starting it -- especially after a long session of updates. my choices now to secure a backup after extended work is to quit and restart again or manual backup of the lrcat file for safekeeping until the next session. thanks

While I do understand that there are still processes going when finishing a session I can see the benefit of doing the autobackup of the catalog database on ending.
I'm not a database guy but I do work with Access at the office and anytime I change a value in one of the cells it automatically changes the database. On the one hand, when sharing values between programs, it is handy to have the database file change and autosave. On the otherhand there's no "Ooops, made a mistake" going back. So 'Caution' in the keyword on this. It also doesn't help matters when others can be in the same database changing values at the same time (such is how the IT people have made it). But in the case of LR there is only the one user active at anytime.
The main reason I can see this as being beneficial is to insure against machine crashes. Then again, if the computer crashes in the midst of writing the backup there's the potential for a major corruption of the file.
So there are definite benefits and downfalls to an autobackup on quitting.

  • Feature Request: Option to Backup When Close Lightroom

I would like to see the option added in Catalog Settings - General in Backup to have the option to automatically backup Lightroom when you exit Lightroom in addition to the other options. This seems logical to me since when you just completed your new work is when you care the most about backing up. I would have the option to ask: Backup Now or not - so that if you just went into Lightroom to just look at something without doing any work - you don't need to backup then. Or - even better - only ask if actual changes were made in Lightroom (I am assuming the program will know if you do anything or not).
    Thanks - Cathy

Can you restore that JSON backup in a new profile?
Did you make sure that it is really a JSON backup and that there is no missing or hidden other file extension?
A JSON backup starts with: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded"
    A HTML backup starts with: <!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1>
You can try if you can restore that JSON backup in a new profile.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
Please for administration of this support site, make possibility to quote someone's answer, on this way is dificult to answer somebody who wrote some suggestion!
No, i can't restore JSON backup in new profile, even on fresh installed OS XP SP3, with fresh installation of latest version of firefox!
MAN I TOLD YOU 10X IT'S 200 % JSON BACKUP FILE!!! I'M NOT IN IT FROM YESTERDAY, I WORK IN IT 12 YEARS!!!
I tried restoring json backup in new profile, but nothing, i couldn't restore, cause that stupid error from screen shot which i posted again appears !
Man i'm not totally noob i repeat 2nd time here, and normally that i know to create new profile, and that i tried that, but that didn't help!
I can't believe that FIREFOX has not good support team, and doesn't care for yours users, this will not give me more reason to use in future firefox
like borwser, if i don't have good support, and when i have problem like this, to loose all my very important bookmarks and passwords on them, and
firefox support won't to help me to solve my problem!
If somebody from firefox support team read this, i can give you Remote desktop access to my computer to try solve this problem, like other serious company
like HP, Dell , etc. give remote desktop support to their users!
Corel are you from firefox support team? Please don't write same suggestions, cause i know to read, and i understand well if you write once some suggestion!

  • I accidentally deleted my backup from icloud on my iphone and now when I go into icloud in the settings it doesn't give me the option to backup my iphone to my icloud account anymore? How can I get my phone to backup to icloud again?

I accidentally deleted the latest backup for my iphone 6 on icloud like a week ago and now I can't backup my phone to icloud at all.  When I go into settings, then into icloud, and then into manage my storage it does not give me the option to backup my iphone to my icloud account anymore. How do I get the "backup my iphone now" option in the manage my storage part of the icloud setting? Thanks.

Hey guys I figured out how to solve the issue.
You need to go to settings>general>restrictions.
Turn off restrictions and your iCloud and twitter will start working.
    Enjoy.

  • When quitting safari I used to get a dialogue box with checkboxes, useful if I accidentally pressed command q, but now option seems to have disappeared. Any ideas why or how to retrieve it please?

I used to get a dialogue box when quitting safari, which was useful if accidentally hitting 'command q', but has now disappeared leading to lost work etc.
Any idea why, or how I can get this useful option back please?

Now resolved, after chatting to Apple online support, who said they'd not heard of this happening - solved it quickly enough though.
Anyone interested or suffering similar I was told to remove website data from privacy tab in Safari preferences. And yes, I'd love to know how it worked too.....
    Great thanks to Apple.

The device may be formatted for Windows, as NTFS. The format is readable, but not natively writable on a Mac. To write to the device, you must either reformat it (erasing all the contents) or install third-party software to enable write access to NTFS.

You can setup Mail for iCloud on the eMac.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)

  • Where is my "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" option?

I want to turn off the "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" option but I don't see it in my General pane of the System Preferences, unlike what the on-line posts say. What am I missing?   Running 10.8.4

    Quit all of your apps.
Navigate to here: ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.loginwindow.*.plist (whereby * is a bunch of characters)
Click the file, do a File > Get Info and lock it using the Locked checkbox.
To reverse this setting, simply unlock the file!
Another helpful hint as well: Lion, by default, hides your ~/Library/ folder. To make it visible again without showing all of your other invisible files, simply open up Terminal and type:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/

  • TS4585 I got this message on my ipad "This iPad hasn't been backed up in 2 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wi-Fi.

I have this message on my iPad and the device hungs. I cannot do anything with it, including powering off.
"This Ipad hasn't been backed up in 2 weeks. Backups happens when this Ipad is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wi-Fi."
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?
    Many thanks/Jeremy

The system error basically should lead to the culprit of your issue. iCloud will ONLY automatically back-up to the cloud if all of the following are met:
    1) iDevice is plugged in to the wall outlet/power source.
    2) iDevice is connected to a WiFi network; iCloud does not back up over 3G/DATA networks to limit the data caps on most carries nowadays.
    3) iDevice has been locked and innactive - usually takes place when one is sleeping.
Make sure all three of these are in fact in effect. If you are noticing that it has gone 2+ weeks unable to backup automatically, I would recommend navigating to the iCloud settings panel on your iPad.
    Tap on Settings -> iCloud
On this screen I would advise for you to scroll all the way to the bottom and selete Delete Account.
*THIS WILL NOT DELETE YOUR BACKUPS, JUST REMOVE THE ACCOUNT ASSOCIATION FROM YOUR iPAD**
After this has gone through, sign back into iCloud and manually do a backup by selecting Storage & Backup and scrolling down to select the Back Up Now option. Once this is complete, use your iPad as you would. Over the course of the next few days, go back to where that Back Up Now option was and below it you will see when the last backup was done. This should be changing almost daily if the mentioned measures earlie in my response have been met.
Should this not solve your problem then due let me know. But to my knowledge, this has solved my iCloud issues with my iPhone 4S and my iPhone 5.

  • Why has the option to delete cookies on quit been eliminated from preferences in Firefox 12

The "Privacy" preferences panel no longer offers the option to delete cookies on quit, as it did in Ffx 6, the version I updated from. Has this option been moved elsewhere? Has it been eliminated? If it has been eliminated, what is the last version that offers it? Could you please give me a '''specific, working''' URL where I can download the latest version that allows setting a "delete on quit" policy for cookies.
If Firefox puts the user first, why are your "updates" dumming down on user-settable options, especially one as important as an easy and convenient way to prevent cookies from hanging around till the next ice age. I realize I can manually delete cookies, but this is a pain in the rear, especially since I am missing most of my fingers. All those extra strokes that the ten fingered world dismisses as trivial really add up when you have only 2.5 fingers and one eye.

Your image shows "Firefox will Remember History".
It has a dropdown arrow which usually shows -
"Firefox will Never Remember History" and, what you need,
"Firefox will Use Custom Settings". This opens a range of options.
Is this pair of dropdown arrows not working?

  • TS4036 Error Message:  This iPad hs not been backed up for 3 weeks. Backups happen when the iPad is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi.

How do I clear up this Issue?  Error Message:  This iPad hs not been backed up for 3 weeks. Backups happen when the iPad is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi.
I plugged it in and it is charging now.  It will not allow me to unlock it and when I push the 'ok' button for the error message, it still appears....will not go away.
Do I just allow it to charge and it will automatically backup itself?  If not, what do I do?

Hold the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.  This will restart the phone and give you access again.
To troubleshoot your iCloud backup, try deleting your last backup by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on again.  If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

I'm getting a similar message: First it offers me chance to repair - but if I it repair, it crashes.  Then if I select do not repair I get the following warning: There was an error opening the database..." and the only option I get is a "quit" button. Help!

From the path in the error message you posted it appears that the library is not on your internal (root) drive.
What type of disk is the library on and how is it formatted?
The crash log Léonie is referring to is what is printed out when Aperture crashes. You wrote that Aperture crashes in your first post so if the app crashes you must have gotten a crash report.

  • During backup, time machine quits unexpectedly...

During backup, time machine quits unexpectedly and says the external disk was removed (but it wasn't even bumped). This has happened repeatedly every time I attempt a backup. Any ideas?

There are a few things that might be causing this.
First, open the Energy Saver preference pane in System Preferences and uncheck the box labeled "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible," if it's checked. Some hard drives don't respond well to that setting.
The external drive should be plugged directly into a built-in port, not into a hub. Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends. If you're using a 3.5" external drive, it should have its own power supply.
To be on the safe side, launch the Disk Utility application, select the backup volume (not the startup volume), and run "Repair Disk" (not "Repair Permissions.") If any problems are found, you should repeat until the volume is clean. You should also give serious consideration to replacing the drive if that happens, because a volume should never develop directory damage unless there's a hardware fault.
