Optional Video Track for Viewer

Hi guys-
I'll explain my situation even though it's not that important. I will be shooting a dance recital and along with my cuts between a wide and closeup shot, my client wants a horizontally split screen, a portion of the lower part being an extreme wide shot to keep everyone in the shot. I really hate this idea because I think it'll look horrible, but I may have to against my reccomendation.
MY QUESTION: Like an alternate angle or a subtitle, could the viewer use a button to turn on and off this feature in realtime as they watch? If I would need to do two seperate versions, one with and one without, it wouldn't be any use to me. Thanks in advance!

It would have to be two angles to get it as close as you are describing - one full screen angle , one split screen angle - there is no way to have the track look different by combining the versions and pressing the buttons (meaning you cannot have a wide angle shot and a close up shot and combine them in DVD SP by pressing a button, needs to be done in Final Cut, etc.)

1 Movie file has video track for appletv & 1 for iphone

Does anyone know how when you purchase a movie on itunes in HD, you get a beautiful HD movie to watch on your AppleTV that is a fairly large file, but when you choose to sync it to your iphone the movie file is MUCH smaller, made just for the iphone. There are not two files, so I assume the file has 2 video tracks in it and syncing just extracts the smaller file. Any one have insight on this? I'm ripping my own movies and want to create the same thing. Once file with a HD track and an iphone track.

When you purchase HD files from itunes you DO get two files.
Quicktime can create multi tracked files but I don't believe they will play on the tv or the ipod. Neither device to my knowledge supports sprites

Video Track for Broadcast Safe

I I have a project that has a duration of 28 minutes - is there a way to insert in one of my empty video tracks above the existing clips - a continuous (28 minute) empty track in which I could dump a Broadcast Safe filter and control that function globally vs. each individual clip?

Set in/out at head/tails of the timeline, select all and go to...Main Menu/Sequence/Nest Items.
The nested sequence will be a single bluish/purplish video track with aqua audio.
With that nested sequence open in the timeline, option-click on the video track and apply your filter...or drag it to the video track from the effects tab of the browser.
If you just dbl-click it in the timeline, you'll open the original sequence will all layers showing.

Video format for viewing on both iphone and android devices?

what's the best format to export a video to so that it can be seen on both android and iphone devices? does adobe support this or is there another program that i'd have to buy? any help or insight would be appreciated.

H.264 works for both iOS devices and Android devices. Here's a page with a list of the formats and specs for Android:

If you choose H.264 as the format in Adobe Media Encoder, you can then choose from a bunch of encoding presets for specific devices, including various iOS devices.

Slashes on video track for fcp 6

Hi, I'm curious what these lines are. They're slashes that go from top left to the bottom right of the track and im wondering if it will affect the output of my final product. It's also very annoying to see. lol thank you.

If its actually on the track (timeline) it could be that those tracks are locked.
Try toggling the little padlock button in the patchbay on the left on the timeline.

Prem El 7: Previewing individual video tracks

Hi All,
I am new to Prem Elements 7 and have been spending a lot of time on my first project.
Some simple things are holding me up and I can't resolve with the Help centre.
I have 3 video tracks stacked in the timeline.
A key problem is how to select and preview in the monitor panel each video track.
As default, the monitor will only preview the top video track in the stack. So for me, it will preview track 3.
But I want to be able to switch between video tracks and view the content of each track in the preview monitor to help with editing decisions.
Can anyone help please?

You can do as SG suggests in that you double click the video clip on Video Track 1, 2, or 3 to bring up its Preview Window.
But, consider the following when and if applicable:
a. staggering the clips of Video Track 1, 2, 3 (train arrangement) and then clicking above the Timeline to move/direct the Timeline Indicator to the video clip location to view that clip in the Edit Mode Monitor.
b. if you wanted a before/after, doing a split screen effect where you drag the Crop video effect (Effects/Video Effects/Transform/Crop) into the clips and use the Edit Efffect to crop the clips to display side by side in the Edit Mode Monitor....if find, more space to do that with 16:9 project.
As has been stated, if there are no transparencies in the clip in Video Track 3 and you are not adjusting Opacity, all that you are going to see is what is on Video Track 3 in the Edit Mode Monitor.

Snow Leopard iTunes 10.5 will not play multiple video tracks in QuickTime .MOV files

I recently discovered that Snow Leopard iTunes version 10.5 won't play multiple video tracks in a QuickTime .MOV file.
Both video tracks appear and play correctly when playing the file in:
- QuickTime Player 10 or QuickTime Player 7.7 on the same Snow Leopard machine
- iTunes 10.3.1 on another Snow Leopard machine
- iTunes 10.5 on Leopard or Windows 7
So I think the problem is iTunes 10.5 on Snow Leopard (although I haven't been able to test iTunes 10.4).
First test file is two 640x480 video tracks side-by-side (total dimensions 1280x480):

All I see is the first (left) video track, and not the right one. iTunes "Get Info" command incorrectly reports the video dimensions of the file as 640x480.
Second test file is two 640x480 video tracks played one after another (duration of 10 seconds each):

All I see is the first video track, and although it reports the correct file duration (20 seconds), the second video track never appears -- it simply freezes on the final frame of the first video track for the last 10 seconds.
Anyone else see similar behavior? Unless I'm missing something, I suppose I should submit this as a bug to Apple.

Multiple Video Tracks Problem with Back Button

Hi,
I am making a DVD that has to contain 16 films. Unfortunately the videos don't have the same aspect ratios, so I have to create one video track for each film.
When the DVD is started they are supposed to play all in a row (no menus). So the end action for each track is to jump to the first chapter of the next track.
My problem is that once I am playing, say, track 5, there is no way to get back to track 4 with the "back button" on the remote control.
Do I have to script this? And if yes, how?

That is exactly my problem. Chapter markers only work on the same track, for some reason you can't jump to a chapter in a different track. What I need is a solution to jump from a track to the previous one when pressing the back button on the remote.
As I wrote before I can't use just one track for all films, because they have different aspect ratios.

When you converted the original files via MPEG Streamclip, what did you convert them to?
Have you tried trashing your preferences in FCP? Trashing FCP prefs is usually the first step when FCP is performing strangely.

Sharing large [3.5 gb] videos for viewing on other computers [for sending overseas on flashdrives]

I've made a video of my tour of Andalucia, and I'd like to share it with my companions on the tour. I've convinced PE 12 to burn a BluRay disc that looks excellent for viewing at home. Now I'd like to make a HD version that I can copy to flashdrives and send overseas. So far, however, I can't figure out what settings to use for high quality. Can anyone in the PE community help?

Hi, Dave.
If you're using the BlackBerry browser, you can't configure anything to bypass the RIM servers. I believe you may do so by using the Opera browser, but I haven't tried it myself so cannot comment with authority.

When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

Thanks David. I had to convert the mts file to Quick Time (using AunSoft Conversion software) before I could import it into Final Cut Express. And I made sure I kept the size of movie (720 X 480 with letterbox) to compliment what I set my Panaconic AVCCAM video recorder at (720/60). Even after I fully render it, it still looks fuzzy in the Canvas window at the right that plays what I have editing down in the Timeline. A friend that edits some using Final Cut Pro helped me to narrow things down to this problem. This is also wierd. If my Viewer window at the left is set to 200% to get the person's head the same size in the Canvas window at the right we needed to put it to 400%. Does this make any sense. We think we need to control the Time line resolution somehow but cannot find any options from my manual, or the help, or in the various drop down menus. Do you have any clue? What is going on?

Recording commentary track for video clip

I have recorded and edited some video clips and now i want to record an audio commentary to layer onto the audio of the video clip, like how directors do the alternate commentary track for a lot of dvds. It would be a recording of 2-6 people sitting viewing the video together with it's original audio.
Ideally,
1)I would mic each person and feed the mic into the computer to record them each as seperate tracks. I think stp can't do that, but garageband might?
2)I don't want the mics picking up the original audio of the scene they are watching, but I want the people giving the commentary to hear the original audio, as well as what they are saying and what the other people that are sitting in and recording are saying. So the only way I can see that working is to somehow have the original audio of the scene piped into headphones, along with the audio of all the other tracks being recorded.
So how is this all possible, either through my method or another method you could think of. And what equipment would i need, like a mixer or audio interface. If I can't do this natively in stp, than what can I use, like garageband, that i can import into stp for final mixing.

1) STP 1 can't do multi-track recording but STP 2 will be able to do it. In the meantime, yes, you can use GarageBand.
2) You're right, you'll need headphones.
If you want dedicated audio tracks for each one, you'll need an audio interface with multiple preamps like MOTU 8pre. You could also use only a stereo mic to record the whole room. That way, you could use an interface with only two mic pres and you'll need less mics too. And since it would be only one track, you'll be able to use STP. For this kind of recording, you'll want to use condenser mics.

View multiple video tracks at once?

Hi Guys,
How can I get the multi cam monitor to show me my 3 or 4 cameras at once? I know there is the method in which you sync clips and then do a nested sequence with enabled multi-cam operations, but can I just view the multiple clips at once on the multi monitor?
The reason I want to do this, is so I can view all the cameras and do some syncing!
Also, I have tons of stuff on my timeline which is all in different hours of the day trying to be synced. I can't really do fast syncing and then multi cam monitor.........
Currently, when i do enable multi-monitor in premiere, I can switch from video track to video track, but cannot see all my tracks at once
