Options\Advanced\Update\Search Engines: Check this to receive automatic updates to your search engines. ??? Updates to my search engines?? Explain please.
The details are in the question.
The Firefox "Menu Bar" has a 'Tools' list/menu, wherein lies an 'Options' option.
This produces a window which presents eight further sets of options, which are selected by clicking on an 'icon' at the top of this window. Clicking on the "Advanced" icon, and then the "Update" tab, allows me to select, or deselect, the option to "...receive automatic updates to your search engines."
The Mozilla Support search engine was unable to find a match for the above question; can any of Mozilla's helpers locate the missing explanation?
What search engines are these? What updates are these?
Thank you. I had used the Customize Toolbar option to remove that item from the Navigation Toolbar as I like settings in the online version of one or other search engine, and I had not played with this feature to see if it was that flexible.
Now all I need is to find out what is indicated when Firefox "updates" these plugins, and whether they are of any actual use.

When it updates, it changes my home page, privacy settings, and it checks all of the updates that I had previuosly unchecked. So I change all of the settings back. Then the next day, when I bring up firefox, I get the familiar update page, and all of my setting are changed again. Note: Once I change my settings back, they are good all day - until the next day when I turn on the PC. Help!!!
Running version 3.6.9. When I look at update history in options/advanced/update tab, it says "no updates installed yet".Either Firefox is crashing every time you close it (seems unlikely) or your setting is being overridden. The most common way it gets overridden is if external software creates or edits an optional settings file named user.js. By default, Windows will hide the .js extension, which makes it difficult to work with .js files (for example, to rename them) accurately. You can change this Windows setting using the steps in this article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions

I cannot sign on to sync to get my passwords and bookmarks back after update of FF... Please help
A few weeks ago my FF browser updated to 29.0.1 and since then I can no longer access my saved password file or bookmarks. This is extremely frustrating and I have tried everything I could figure out to try, even used my back - up to reload from a previous date with no luck. Then FF reloaded the new version again. Here is my problem. I have other devices, (Smartphone, Android tablet) that both use FF mobile on them and they have my bookmarks still. I think if I could retrieve my sync account, I could get this all back, only problem is, I have not had to use that password in years along with changing my ISP a few years back, so it does not even recognize my e-mail address. FF apparently has no phone support or at least I cannot find it and I would like to straighten this out with them. I tried reaching them on Facebook with no reply. I just don't know what to do any more and need those passwords and bookmarks ......

I have FF and win7. Fonts turn to weird characters at more then 75% zoom when the checkbox "allow webpages to choose their own fonts" in the contents option > advanced is checked, when forced to calibri this behaviour doesnt occur

While switching to double check this I just saw that this also happens in this very window in wich i am typing my question now. If i copy and paste this text to for example notepad or anything else, it shows up like normal text.

== i installed firefox on win 7This issue can be caused by the bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or another (bitmap) font that can't be displayed by Firefox in that font size.
Firefox can't display that font in the specified size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or find a True type version of that font that doesn't have the problem. -

If you dont have none option then you must own itunes some money. So you have to enter the payment like a itunes giftcard. you can contact itunes by email by going to expresslane.apple.com

In Firefox 2.0+ you can go to Advanced JavaScript Settings and check a box to allow scripts to change status bar text. How do I do this is Firefox 10.0.1?

You can lock the related network.proxy prefs if you do not want users to change the connection settings.

my ipod says it is updated to most current 6.1.6, i use the rdio app and it worked but now with the update it needs 7.0 but i do not get option to update to this what do i do?

Msg: Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page. When I click on "Allow", The 2nd tab closes with no error msg This was Home Depot redirecting to CitiGroup.
When I unchecked the Advance/General/Accessibility option to be notified of a "redirect" then things worked.
Why did clicking on "Allow" not work?
I posted step by step detail in the Trouble Shooting box below.Thank you for your answer. It does stop the redirection notices, but now I have no idea if potentially unsafe sites are redirecting me. I cannot figure out why it has only recently started to happen on my home page though, when nothing has changed on there and I've had it set to show redirections, ever since I set up Firefox.
I guess I'll just have to make the decision as to whether I want to risk redirections or put up with the semi permanent notice.

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

HOW DO YOU TURN OFF "FIREFOX PREVENTED THIS PAGE FROM AUTOMATICALLY RELOADING". I did perform the "see Advanced - General - Accessibility. It worked for me and my "user" site (don't know how to say my site) and still having problems with my wife's. I have gone to OPTIONS → GONE TO → ADVANCE and CLICKED THE LINE → ""Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page…""
This did not rememdy the problem. I did try to get on the other site suggested

JMYou should still disable this setting:
*Firefox > Options/Preferences > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
The setting in "Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.
