Options for Charts

I need to put some charts into my HTML-DB pages but don't want to be restricted by the limitations of the SVG components. I have had success embedding Oracle Reports within an <iframe> but I'm wondering if BI Beans might be a better (more flexible/more powerful/etc) way to proceed.
Can BI Beans be incorporated into HTML-DB? If so, where do I start?

One of my biggets complaints is the inconsistant behaviour across browsers. I know that this is not something that ApEx has direct controll over, but it is a huge consideration, especially when you are looking at deploying a commercial product (as we are) on ApEx.
Making sure that what you want to display ALWAYS works and ALWAYS looks the same in ALL browsers is very difficult with SVG.
We're currently investigating a flash based charting solution called XML/SWF (http://www.maani.us/xml_charts/). It is going to cost us, but in the long run the cross browser compatibility and the fact that every chart will look EXACTLY as we intend it EVERY TIME is worth the money and extra effort needed!

Navigation option for chart does not work

I want to select a graph on a chart and navigat to another report. I selected the navigation radio button under the chart property and selected the destination reports. However, when i click on the chart, it does absolutely nothing.

I notice the naviation on the chart will only work if you include a dimension table that has an established hierarchy. Is there a way to get the chart to work without including the dimesion table? For example, I have loan_num, borrower_num, and servicer_num on a fact table and i only want to include this on the chart. I want to be able to click on each measure and have it navigate to a corresponding report.

Automatic axis description for charts in BEx 7.0

In BEx Analyzer 7.0, if I have a simple table and hit the 'Chart' button, it creates the graph but does not put the descriptors on the X axis. The X axis has numbers (the same amount as the number of rows). What I want is for it to automatically populate the description instead of putting a number.
Here is what I get.

Hi Ronald,
The chart Report will show, what ever is displayed in your table Report. Probably you have selected. Right click on Chart and select "Select Data" and see waht is selected for Rows and columns. For example in first column you have customer and if it is set as display Key in table it will show you Key in chart as well.
Do some Trial and error with "Select Data source" option in Chart, you will get the desired result.

in case when u want to use some additional text for the creation of GL at a crertain level like COA then u create the standard text types and tick the relevant text... then whenever u create the GL then it will give u the option of putting text there..... it is more of information text....

Define own colors for charts in BW 3.0b, is it possible???

Bex gives a fixed set of optional colors for charts, however I need some other colors in order to fit with the given style guide.
I know that it is possible to use a picture, however I am looking for a way in order to define my own colors for charts.

Charts don't have cursors and they also don't have the "plot images" options, so your tools are limited.
Of course you can simulate a chart using a graph by keeping your own history and display it on a graph. Use cursor move events to trigger the calculation of the distances from the new cursor position to all points on the graph and pick the one with the shortest distance to the cursor. Now you can get the annotation tools to label the point, or get its x and y value and write the info using picture tools with the "plot images" property.

Router Options for Pop - Should be an easy question :) TYVM

Good Early Afternoon from Blizzard-Stricken WI,
I'm looking for suggestions for a Router for my Pop.
Presently, Dad has a tower computer -- however in the spring he'll be moving since Mum passed away. He doesn't want a large home anymore. Therefore Dad has decided he'll purchase a laptop computer. I don't know which brand/model or anything like this. Pop is also flirting with the idea of a Mac - I'd guess he'll probably stick with a Windows based system but I cannot be for sure.
Dad doesn't know it yet - but for Christmas my brother purchased a HP 4580 Wireless 'All-in-One' Printer. I am going to purchase Pop a Router for Christmas. Pop finally understands that he can be in one room and click Print, and the document/pic, etc will print in the other room.
As far as I know - Dad will be the only person on a computer wherever he moves to. Occasionally I'll be there and may bring my laptop -- at that time I'll just sign in as guest and enter the password info.
So good folks -- what do YOU recommend insofar as a Router for Dad? Will you please name some brands/models that you feel are popular and work well?
I did ask Dad's computer Guru for advice. He simply told me to get a Router that is "wired to the printer" -- because he doesn't want to "go to your Dad's house every other week because a *%#!/<! wireless Router is screwed up or just simply failed." Are there really many issues with wireless routers?
So I guess I should ask two questions. 1.) What would YOU recommend for me to go and purchase (brand/model if you know it please)
and
2.) Wired to the printer -- or wireless?
A bit of additional information -- Pop is 78 years old. He's in good health -- however he can't get around like he used to. He can't be crawling around stringing wires and Pop cannot see the medium/smaller print on hardware (heck, often I can't either! lol). ~~~~ Additionally -- currently Dad is using Charter Cable for his ISP. Whenever he moves to may not have Charter. Dad will get the fastest connection that he can and that's reliable. However sometimes there are not a lot of choices. (example: I live in the country. We don't even have dial-up. Egads. I do use satellite from HN and I have my Cisco Router wired to the satellite modem. This is no problem for me - but it does take up the back section of an end table and it looks rather cluttered. This is just a FYI though).

Dad's body may be getting older -- but his brain is very sharp. I sure hope that my mind works like his when I'm even 60.
Back in the early 50's - Pop was in the Army. Randomly, 1/2 of the soldiers were sent into the Korean War. The other half were sent to various sites, mainly Germany. My Dad was sent to Germany. He soon learned that his Army assignment was to go into a very large, loud room, and work on a computer --- a mainframe computer. I'm told that back then "a computer" was as large as a room. (unbelievable -- blows my mind in many ways).
As years progressed -- Dad stayed in the computer arena --- well into the time when the local governments were starting to purchase personal computers.....DOS was the big deal back then.......so was changing those extra large, ?5"? or 5.25"/5.5" square floppies. lol ~~~ Pop had to learn about PCs at that time -- though all thought that he should be a guru, after all - he'd been working with and on computers for years and years. lolol He couldn't convince the ppl that a Mainframe and a PC were entirely different mindsets.
Pop 'mastered' PCs -- even as they continued to change. He still is far more advanced than a lot of the folks of many age groups.
Dad started to slow down learning the inner workings of PCs and the like -- in the later part of the 90's. He figured that he knows his way around the internet -- he can still fix many issues when needed.........or just call his own computer guru.
Pop, I'm sure, doesn't want something that is complicated to use. However he also wouldn't want something that is not powerful enough, or too basic for his needs. His needs are to connect wirelessly, to print wirelessly, to upload and download, to scan, send and receive pics (his own cameras) along with a little editing. All very 'normal' computer functions.
I can't see Pop sharing a connection or file sharing with anybody (well as I said, I may connect when I visit with him -- but I'll just enter and save his passwords and such).
Anyway, Dad is not computer illiterate by a long shot --- however if he doesn't need a bunch of bells and whistles -- then so be it. (Oh also... when Dad gets his laptop, be it Windows or Mac based....and however he will end up connecting if he's not with Charter Cable ---and considering Dad's usage -- is there a 'power' or 'strength' type of issue? I mean, all is going to change......so if he has a laptop, say with a different type of connection.....and a different home configuration.....will he need, if there is such a thing -- a more powerful strengthwise Router if he's ?? upstairs and the Router - printer, etc. is downstairs? Silly question probably --- however I really don't know about such things).

There is no FaceTime app for the iPhone if that's what you're asking. FaceTime is accessible through your Contacts as one of the options in how to contact a person -- there is no standalone FaceTime app for iPhone.
If you mean how to disable FaceTime, you can do that in Restrictions (Settings/General/Restrictions).

Needing a multi-month and year-in-view option for ical!

I turn off all calendars but the birthdays. Select [Print]. Choose all the months you want to see. Deselect all calendars but birthdays. Click [Continue]. On the next menu, go to "Layout", select how many pages to print on the paper. I usually print a border around each calendar then you're good to go!
By only printing the birthdays calenar, you won't get too many appointments to get in the way of brain storming and future planning, yet the computer still thinks its printing a useful calendar.

BODS : Datastore options for SAP R/3 - need clarity for use

Hi All.
Another request to understand the datastore optiono n BOXI 3.1 BODS existing installation.
We are trying to pull a new table from SAP R/3 into BODS and we find that ABAP program is not getting generated as expected. And terminates. When we tested a simple workflow.
While creating a new datastore for SAP R/3 Source :
When we look at the datastore we find the following options for R3 Source ;
ABAP Execution option :
Execute preloaded
Generate and execute
Under data transfer method we find ;
Shared directory
Direct download
FTP
Custom transfer
Then we have working directory on sap server
local directory
generated ABAP Directory
Am testing a simple workflow of pulling data from SAP R/3 in a dev machine.
But am not understanding.
which option of ABAP Execution, and data transfer , path would work in co-ordination.
Because when i say direct download and say generate and execute it throws error.
Can anyone help me with combinations of the options to choose for a R/3 source. And the implications thereof.
I had created a folder under local bods server D:\Bodi. And given the path for data transfer.
But the files are not getting generated for whatsoever reasons.
Any advise on this would be helpful.
Also found a bit unusual, that there was no button to test the connection to be correct or not, a TEST connection button is not there. Which i felt, could be included.
Note : on the existing production system, we have chosen execute preloaded; shared directory on sap server. and shared that folder path for the user and given full rights. But while we try to do the same on the dev machine a test before transporting on production, a simple workflow does not work.
would like to know what settings on sap server, really affect the data store options on the BODS

Indeed, BODS <> SAP connectivity can be tricky.
For a development environment, I suggest you select the option "Generate and execute" for your "ABAP Execution Option." What this means is that DS will create, on the fly, small-ish ABAP programs. These ABAP programs will be written, in plain text, to a local directory on the DS job server, in the folder specified in "Generated ABAP Directory". You can see them in there after an attempted job execution, assuming the job involves the creation of an ABAP program. The ABAP program name is specified in the properties of an ABAP data flow, under Options > ABAP Program Name. If you can't, perhaps the DS job server process doesn't have full rights to that folder - ? After being generated on-the-fly, they'll be transferred to SAP to execute. The SAP user you use to connect to SAP must have sufficient rights to upload-and-execute these ABAP programs, and that's a fairly substantial set of rights. What's required is documented in the BODS supplement for SAP. Often, to get things running, your friendly local Basis admin will grant SAP_ALL to the DS user, to see what rights are being invoked.
Once all that jazz is working, you need to get the data back. There are a number of ways to do this. The method of data transfer is specified in "Data transfer method," where, ignoring "Custom transfer," you have three choices:
1) Direct Download: easiest and slowest. This method tells SAP to attempt to stick data in the client-side folder specified in "Local directory." Try this first.
2) Shared folder: This is recommended when you have SAP being hosted on a Windows box. Basically: you set "Working directory on SAP Server" and "Data Services path to the shared directory" to point to the same folder. SAP uses the "Working directory on SAP Server" to find this folder, and DS uses the other setting. So, for instance, if you were going to use the Shared folder method, you could set "Working directory on SAP Server" to "E:\BODS_Transfer", and, assuming E:\BODS_Transfer was shared-out as "BODS_Transfer", you could set "Data Services path to the shared directory" to
dev12.somecompany.com\BODS_Transfer . Then, you'd need to setup all the relevant security, as both SAP and DS need rights to read and write files in this folder.
3) FTP (this is the method I usually use): SAP writes the "transport files" you're after (i.e., the data) in the folder specified in "Working directory on SAP Server". Then, you need to establish ftp connectivity to that folder from the DS job server's perspective, which you do by entering the ftp host name and the path to that folder in "FTP host name" and "FTP relative path to the SAP working directory". In my opinion, the "relative" business is a little confusing, and I just typically enter the full ftp path, beginning the path w/ a forward slash, like "/usr/sap/tmp/BOBJ" or something like that. You also need to obtain a separate username and password for the ftp connectivity. Note that this name and password has NOTHING to do with the SAP username and password; you're just setting-up DS to act as an ftp client. I strongly encourage you to test ftp connectivity by using a regular ftp client from the DS job server and attempt to connect to your ftp host using the username and password you were given, and attempting to fetch some sample test file. If you can't do this, manually, then DS won't be able to do it, either.

1. When I try to click the "See All Plans" button on this page (Cloud-based software and services for creatives | Adobe Creative Cloud) I'm taken to a blank page (except for the unhelpful footer). The error console on my browser says there are a couple of errors, which are usually where this comes from.

Is your apple tv also up to date?
Are they both on the wireless network, or is the apple tv using an ethernet cable?
Reboot your wireless router, your apple tv, and your ipad, in that order.

Is there a key on the MacBook Pro to toggle display options for a projector

I have had some difficulty getting my InFocus projector to consistently work correctly with my MacBook Pro. Is there a key on the MacBook Pro that toggles the options for projector display? There was one on my last MacBook and my previous PowerBook.

No, there is no longer a key to control external display modes (it's F7 on my 1st gen MBP, but the option was removed along with the embedded numeric keypad in the Early 2008 models). There's not a substitute keyboard shortcut (with the exception of installing a macro player like Keyboard Maestro). Your main option is System Preferences > Displays (as stated, ticking the box to show Displays in the menu bar provides a helpful shortcut).

I have a RTF whch is having a field in that i need to add some validation condition but after adding certain condition in Add help text tab ,it is not accepting after certain length, how i can increase the length to unlimited,please help me on this

Form fields have some restrictions if your are using version lower than 11g.
They can accommodate only 393 chars. You can add the text in both status bar and help key, which can in total consume 393 chars.
If your code logic is more than that, it can be split into multiple form fields as Avinash suggested or you can use sub template logic and handle coding over there. Again in sub template code can be within/outside form fields.
So there is no option for user to increase the size of form field.
