Options for monitoring health of SCSM 2012 SP1 using SCOM 2012 SP1

I've done some research on how to monitor SCSM using SCOM (version 2012 SP1 for both) and found two options:
Option 1 - Agent-based monitoring. With SCSM2012 SP1, it looks as though the agent is
already present (for upgrades and also for fresh installs). So it follows that SCOM will be able to monitor the health of SCSM.
Option 2 - Agentless monitoring. On the Technet
download page, 'System Requirements' section indicates compatibility with SCOM 2012 and above, and SCSM 2012 and above. Details tab says the following (emphasis mine):
This System Center Management Pack for System Center 2012 - Service Manager should be used to monitor
System Center 2012 - Service Manager, System Center 2012 R2 - Service Manager
and includes monitors for the management server as well as the Data Warehouse server. In this release of the management pack, the Data Access Service, Health Service, Configuration Service, and workflows are monitored.
So it looks like both options are viable, but I'd be interested in hearing other people's experiences of using one vs. the other. Is there any major difference in the information that's provided by agentless vs. agent-based monitoring, or are they just two
different ways of pulling the exact same information into SCOM?
Edit: Just occurred to me that SP1 isn't explicitly mentioned in the Technet article linked above under option 2. Has anyone successfully used agentless monitoring on SP1?

My operations team has been using MOM 2007 and has recently migrated to SCOM 2012 R2.
Till now we are using Monitoring Pack management packs which were released way earlier (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=11324),
and had a dependency on diagonstics connection string being present in the cscfg of Azure package.
This pack was allowing us to monitor the wad logs and events generated by applications.
However we plan to move to newer Azure managemen pack (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38414), which allows for discoverability.
I have 2 questions -
Is it possible to monitor Diagonstics Event Log with the new Monitoring Pack released on 10/2014 ? Or will the users still require the earlier pack for monitoring diagnostics installed in parallel ?
Azure SDK 2.5 got rid of diagonstics connection string. Is there any possible way to Monitor of Azure Diagonstics wadlogs using SCOM 2012 R2

I would like to suggest you go through the management pack guide to get details. And you should be able to create custom monitor to monitor event logs for Azure.

Monitor Dell Powerconnect Switches/Routers using SCOM 2012

Hello,
We are trying to find a way to monitor approximately 20-25 Dell Powerconnect switches/routers (models 5324,5424,5448,5548,6224,6024) through SCOM 2012.
Using SCOM network discovery we are able to get all Dell Powerconnect switches listed, but we are unable to get a network node dashboard, nor vicinity view 1 or 2 hops further. We are able to only see connected network printers and some serial/ethernet devices
we have.
In addition, SCOM 2012 seems to be able to recognize the model of only Dell Powerconnect 5224 switches. We have found that on the SCOM management server the "C:\Program Files\System Center 2012\Operations Manager\Server\NetworkMonitoring\conf\discovery\oid2type_Dell.conf"
only lists Dell Powerconnect 5224 switches as well as several models from the 3000 series.
We have contacted Dell PRO support, but their reply was that there is no management pack for SCOM available for their networking devices.
Would it be recommended to use http://xsnmp.codeplex.com/ on SCOM 2012 to monitor those switches and get a network digram view or are there any plans to include those MIBs in a future CU or SP of SCOM 2012?

Network monitoring has changed from SCOM 2007 R2 to SCOM 2012 so this statement
"but if this works for SCOM 2007, it should apply to SCOM 2012"
is not accurate when it comes to network monitoring:

The codeplex solutions for SCOM 2007 R2 will not work on a new \ clean install of SCOM 2012 (if you upgrade from SCOM 2007 R2 they continue to work as legacy devices but you can't add more monitoring).

What do you mean by recoginse? SCOM can discover network devices but there is an "approved" list that allows for extended monitoring:

We are planning to upgrade our SCOM2012 SP1 to SCOM 2012 SP1 UR5. One of our MS accidentally upgraded to SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4 already. I need to know if I can use the below to upgrade all of them to UR5

I used this link to update all my SCOM instances to SCOM 2012 SP1 CU5 and it worked fine for me.

Since the these updates are cumulative, I guess one MS already CU4 should not affect the SCOM functionality. But still lets wait for other experts to comment on this.

I planned upgrade to SCOM 2012 R2 form SCOM 2012 SP1.
Should I install any or last update rollup package to my SCOM 2012 SP1, before upgrading to SCOM 2012 R2 ?

It is highly recommend that you has install most updated CU before upgrade SCOM 2012 sp1 1 to SCOm 2012 R2 but it is not necessary. You should view NEPA PFE Team blog that demostrate how to upgrade SCOM 2012 SP1 with CU4 to SCOM 2012 R2.

Connecting to existing TFS 2012 repository using SSDT 2012

I am trying to connect to an existing TFS 2012 repository using SSDT 2012 (Visual Studio 2010 Shell). I already have Visual Studio 2013 Professional Edition installed, but I am still not seeing any options other than "None" for the Plug-In Selection
dropdown in the Source Control part of the options menu.
Am I missing something in the SSDT documentation that explains how to do this?

I have attached the results of pressing the "Copy Info" button in the about section when I open SQL Server Data Tools at the bottom of this response.
I was able to fix the issue by installing Visual Studio 2010 Team Explorer.

SCCM 2012 integration with SCOM 2012 - Disable Alerts during patching

Have SCCM 2012 R2 and SCOM 2012 R2 and use the Software Update Patching process for servers. When using the checkbox to "Disable Operations Manager Alerts when this program runs" option have noticed on completion of the job and the target
server is rebooted, a scheduled task appears for a short time titled "SCOM 2007 Agent Resume Task". The task disappears and there is no history to view.
Is this a legacy naming convention from 2007 world when the maintenance mode is turned off from the SCCM patching process?
How do I see the actual code behind the SCCM and SCOM integration with Maintenance mode to validate it.

That's incorrect. There is no API or method to put an OpsMgr agent into maintenance mode on the client itself -- maintenance mode is a centrally controlled feature of OpsMgr. The API/code sample you linked is performing that activity on the management server
which assumes you know the management server name and have permissions to carry out the action -- neither of which is fulfilled by the ConfigMgr agent.
The ConfigMgr agent pauses the OpsMgr client agent service and also unloads the workflows from the OpsMgr agent (it only did the first part in ConfigMgr 2007). This effectively puts the agent in Maintenance Mode (although to my knowledge this is not directly
reflected in the OpsMgr console).

Uninstall Option for a package is grayed out in Software Center 2012 Client side but others have it available

Hi,
I created a deployment for an application that will use a Custom CMD to Install / Uninstall. Locally executing those files works perfect. The deployment installed the application and shows perfectly installed but:
Since this application is a user Self Service Application they should be able to hit to Install or Uninstall by themselves. The problem is that the Uninstall button is grayed out.
I noticed this problem for other applications too but some of them has this option available.
My question is if only the MSI Native Installer will get this option available or also the Script Installer can have it available.
I do have a Uninstall Program listed on the Deployment type as: "uninstall.cmd" before it hasn't had the quotes but even that still doesn't active the option Uninstall. I don't know if there is an option inside the UDI Wizard that I missed
to activate that will activate this option for this kind of deployments.
Please any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

I have the same problem like Joel, But my deployment is available and does not have a query to detect installed users. we have used direct membership in collection, still the option of uninstall is graded out for one of the application.
So far we have tried all the below options.
Created a new application and deployed to the targeted audience – Still not worked
Changed the detection method to Product code – Still not worked
Change the uninstall script – Still not worked
Refreshed client policies – Still not worked
Reboot is not pending – Still not worked
Policy Reset – Still Not worked
Client Repair – Still not worked
WMI Repair – Still not worked
Let us know any other solution/though to resolve the issue.

Based on my research, this software can be installed as service or not as service, if it is installed as service, then we can use SCOM to monitor the service status. And if it is not installed as service, to monitor it, we may need to analysis logs written
by this software.
And if you want to know what this software did to your computer, I think this should be known by the software vendors, you may need to post thread there. And what I can tell is that we can monitor the computer healthy therefore to know whether something
is wrong with the computer, and then analysis the issue to know whether it is caused by the software.

Exchange 2013 SP1 and SCOM 2012 R2

Hi there,
Hopefully someone can assist me with this issue, if it is one...
I am halfway through an Exchange migration, from Exchange 2010 SP3 on Server 2008 R2 to Exchange 2013 SP1 on Server 2012 R2.
76 users in total, roughly 80GB of Public Folders.
I have configured the 2013 environment with a cross datacenter DAG, also increased all of the timeouts of the cluster to take this into consideration, and everything appears to function as expected.
Added both 2013 machines to SCOM 2012 R2 for at least a week with no active users on it, and all monitoring reported ok, no issues.
Exchange 2010 is configured to use webmail.company.com for RPC over HTTP, which is what I have configured 2013 to use as well.
Implemented Microsoft ARR for client access to Exchange 2013, as opposed to ISA we've used for Exchange 2010.
A week ago, changed the DNS records for webmail.company.com from ISA to ARR, and all clients connected perfect.
Thought, ok, now we can start the migration. So far everything "seems" to be going perfect with the mailbox moves, however, SCOM is really noisy.
Attempted to reran the probe for EWS and got the error below:
Is there perhaps anyone that can assist me with these errors?

FYI... IIS ARR is not supported for Exchange Server.
Check in event log if you are getting anything related to the issue.
About Outlook POP UP to end users. Check the event log on 2010/2013 for MRS events.
Are those mailboxes still moving or in move request?
