Options not saved when I exit Firefox

I set my homepage to google , to appear on start-up , and cookies to be valid till they expire , press OK , happily surf the net , close firefox , and all my choices have gone out the window. Start with a blank page , I select home and get the firefox star page , and cookies are valid till I close Firefox. Running on 64-bit Windows 7 home premium , update every time Firefox publishes an update , what am I doing wrong , thanks in advance , Ron

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history:
*do not clear the Cookies
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/remove-recent-browsing-search-and-download-history
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes.
If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

• I am able to change and add bookmarks, but these changes are sometimes not saved when I restart Firefox.

Since updating to Firefox 4, changes to bookmarks are saved sometimes after restart, but not usually (maybe 25% of the time). The problem sounds exactly like what is described on the Bookmarks not saved help page, yet after making all the recommended changes, the problem persists. I have also performed the recommended actions on the Toolbar keeps resetting help page, with no luck there either.
The only other thing that I can think of that may be helpful is that I use Firefox Sync between two computers, and both seem to be having this problem.

I have some more information, in case it helps. During one Firefox session, I made about 8 changes to my bookmarks. When I restarted Firefox, the first few changes I had made were saved, but the rest were not. Additionally, the favicons that were present during my last session (that I hadn't had before that session) were reverted to the default favicon. I hope this helps!

I just had to get a new modem, and now when I start Firefox, my personal is gone. I also have speed dial and anything I've added to it is also gone. Any help would be appreciated!!

• Why are the tabs not saved when I restart Firefox? Very frustrating with the new version.

I pin a tab - or many tabs. Close Firefox, then open it the tabs are never saved. This was never the issue with the older versions of Firefox - been using it for years. I bought a new computer, loaded Firefox (19.0) and now I cannot "save" the tabs.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

• My Firefox 4 network settings are not saved when I restart Firefox.

In particular, when I set my proxy configuration to 'No Proxy', it keeps getting reverted back to 'Manual Proxy' with '127.0.0.1' as the proxy address and '63111' as the port.

This issue can also be caused by an extension.
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

• Auto-erase downloads when I exit Firefox.

How do I Auto-erase downloads when I exit Firefox? I don't want downloaded files accumulating endlessly on my hard drive - but I do want to keep history and autocomplete info.

With all due respect to my colleague Morbus, the way I read the OP's request is that he wants to automatically delete the actual file that he downloaded through Firefox when he closes Firefox, while retaining the download history of those files. That is diametrically opposed to how Firefox has always worked, and I haven't seen any mention of Firefox 4.0 having a new feature such as that.
BTW, 'autocomplete' data like "form and search history" is stored in a different file than "download history" data is stored, and there are separate preferences for toggling the saving of each (Options > Privacy) and the deleting of each in Clear Recent History./

The only difference I see between looking your site between Firefox and IE is that Firefox is slightly less tolerant of a narrower window than IE but I don't see parts
missing they may be covered up but that happens on both browsers where the picture overlays wording down left side.
I can't really tell whether you are saying Firefox or IE is missing parts, but they look the same to me. First time looked it like Firefox was missing portion but it was just dropped down for some distance text and pictures were not missing.

When I exit firefox it closes the program but it gets stuck in memory so when I open it again i have to kill the process in task manager, and it can be right away or I can come back a few hours later and its still stuck in task manager, I am tired of having to kill the processes every time I use firefox.

You may need to use Safe Mode (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that disables Extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes <u>before</u> starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.

If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your Extensions and Plug-ins and then try to find which is causing it by enabling <u>one at a time</u> until the problem reappears. <u>You MUST close and restart Firefox after EACH change</u> via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

To answer the post title FireFox save all downloads automatically in the download folder, which you can find in the Documents folder. If you want to choose where to save your downloads go to tools>options>check always ask me where to save files.
Secondly, I am assuming you have IE 8 installed as this is the only version that supports this fix that is currently not in beta. Go to control panel>internet options>advanced tab and reset the settings at the bottom. This may or may not fix the problem but it is a good first step.

• My yahoo toolbar does not start when I start firefox I have to redownload it why?

why does my yahoo toolbar not work when I start firefox? i HAVE TO RE INSTALL IT EVERY TIME.

Have you checked that all your plugins are up to date? See here:
And updated all themes and extensions? See here:

You should also try clearing the cache to see if that helps.
I suspect that this is an issue with the Yahoo toolbar rather than Firefox. There are a number of user reviews complaining about various problems on the add-on page. Unfortunately yahoo don't seem to offer support for the toolbar product (other than yahoo answers). It might be worth asking there as well if none of the above works.
If after trying all of this you can't get it to work then let me know. There may be other features in Firefox that you can use to cover the same functionality that the yahoo toolbar gives you. What particular features do you like about it?

Welcome to the 'wonderful' world of HTML5 e-learning.
In my view, from the issues I am seeing everywhere, HTML5 output from rapid e-learning tools such as Captivate is not ready for the kind of mobile device e-learning you want to develop.
Sorry to be pessimistic, but you may need to consider going back to the drawing board and coding it from the ground up.

• Tabs not saved when Firefox closes!

Why oh why has Firefox 6.0.2 (on Mac) stopped automatically saving and re-opening TABS when restarted?
I've read a million Help articles and verified all the recommended settings are applied but I'm sorry, this new Tabs functionality is counter-intuitive and just plain misleading. Firefox saves Tabs, but only if it's closed in *this* particular way? Please. I'm having enough trouble adjusting to the use of a Mac, without Firefox compounding the problem by removing / obstructing the use of a feature that was previously easy to use, and made perfect sense! If we click "Show my windows and tabs from last time", it means we want Firefox to SHOW MY WINDOWS AND TABS FROM LAST TIME! Even if we click the "X" button to close Firefox.
Anyway the bottom line is that I've lost all my working TABS (again), but this time clicking on the History menu, the "Restore Previous Session" command is DISABLED. What options do I have? I haven't restarted Firefox once since having my Tabs disappear, so they should still be saved somewhere. (in the BAK file?)
And I don't want to have to sift through months of history to try and find all the Tabs I had open!
This new logic that makes it more complicated to save Tabs across sessions is NOT an improvement!
Thanks in advance.

Tabs are only saved if you close (Firefox > Quit) the Firefox application while those tabs are still showing. If you close a window and still have the menu bar visible then you wont reopen already close tabs. You may need to be able to reopen the three last closed windows via History > Recently closed Windows.
