Options to avoid Clear-Text Password in Business Objects 4.1 deployed Webi and CR 2013 reports

We would like to avoid bundling clear-text passwords into each Webi and CR 2013 report in BOE 4.1 . Could you recommend some alternatives to not embedding clear-text passwords in Webi and CR 2013 reports? Thanks!

I have few options for you:
Option 1:
For BO XI 3.1, the Schedule Manager is a tool to help you manage the database logon information of Crystal Report documents in a BusinessObject Enterprise system. You can use the tool to update the logon information for a particular Crystal Report document, as well as looking for other Crystal Report documents that use the same database and update them in batch.
As per my knowledge, there is no such tool exists for BI 4.0/4.1. Still I'd suggest you to test it in your TEST environment. I am sure it will work for BI 4.0 as well.

Option 2:
When doing migration, from one environment to the next, you can setup overrides, within the Promotion Management portion of CMC, that will automatically make changes to the various reports for you, without needing to utilize the external tool to do that.

Forced to use Clear Text Passwords for OD binding

Running a Tiger Server 10.4.11 as OD master with one Replica. When binding clients to server in Directory Access/LDAPv3, If I "disable Clear Text Passwords," the users can not login. Uncheck this option, everything works fine. Non "Clear Text" passwords used to work, stopped about two weeks ago. If I bind to the Replica, I can disable clear text. Not sure where to look to see what broke.

"business objects has encountered a problem and need to close" is the error message i get whenever i try to import from Desktop Intelligence.
I deleted the .LSI files.....but in vain ,i still have the same problem.Please let me know of any other fix.

   Just to clarify, did you try to "rename" or "delete" the lsi file?
   Please try renaming it from XXX.lsi to XXX.lsd.old
     (Path : C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Business bjects\Business Objects....)
   When you log back into Deski via your machine, it should generate a new file is smaller size. Does this happen at all in your environment?

ACS 5.3 Showing Clear Text Password in Authorization reports

Hello,
When a tacacs user is changing the local password on the router (for local user), the acs 5.3 is showing the new password in clear text in authorization reports/logs.
This behaviour is seen on acs 5.x, whereas acs 4.2 is showing encrypted password in the reports.
I have checked debugs on Router and it is sending password in clear text in Tacacs Authorization packet but encrypted password in Tacacs Accounting logs.

Akhtar: Cisco needs long time to fix bugs unless it is P1 or P2 bug. Otherwise they'll do it at their leisure.
If you are not on latest patch already then upgrade. If you are already on the latest patch then wait for the next one. If your bug is not mentioned to be fixed on the resolved caveats don't panic. I've seen many bugs fixed but not mentioned in the release notes. What you need to do is to contact TAC so they contact the BU for your behalf to confirm if the bug is resolved or not.

We used VBA macros for the imports but do not know what VBA code is required to export - this code would include the package identifier that has to be selected in the window "Select item Package "

Business Objects support for international web standards

The NZ government has defined web standards ([Standards web-site|http://webstandards.govt.nz/index.php/Home_page]) for delivery of content over the web. I am working with a government organisation who wants to know how/if Business Objects supports international web standards and if so which and in what manner. This is really around BOE and WebIntelligence primarily. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Carl,
I just quickly took a look these standards you are refering to. They seem to be more in line for web site development - i.e content of nature like most internet web sites.
BOE is an BI applcation delivering BI content is a specilaised environment. I would say it would be difficult to place the default application and capability under the general banner of compliance. However, you would need to map the guidelines to BOE to sus out compliance, but I don't feel it really necessary as you are using an application delivered over the web, not building a website.
Nevertheless, should you prefer, BOE is fully supported by an SDK, so you could develop you own custom interface to meet all those nice compliance issues.

Clear text password - how to send it from java.

I am trying to reset the password of a user from java.
So I have to open a socket connection to Unix box and send a packet in following format
"<adminUserid> <adminPassword> PASSWORD <target-userId> <new-passwd>\n"
So they say that user credentials are to be send in cleartext
Please tell me how i can send above string as cleartext

I'm trying to access a email server running Windows server 2003 and keep getting this error. I can send but not receive. Now I can set up thunderbird (Firefox client) to work but no luck with Mail.app I've tried every security setting, any ideas?

Business Objects 3.1 Metrics definitions and recommendations

Does anybody know what is the definition of the following information in the CMC - Metrics, global system
metrics and how it is calculated:
System Connections
Total Open Connections
Does each system connection create a session in the system database?
What would be the recommended number of sessions in the CMS DB for
lets say 300 concurrent users?

In that screen (CMC -> Settings -> Global System Metrics), the term u201CConnectionu201D refers to Enterprise Sessions open in the CMS. u201CTotal Open Connectionsu201D is the total number of opened connections (Enterprise sessions) in your BOE cluster. Almost anything that interacts with the BOE cluster needs to log on first and open a session with the CMS : this can be end users of course from any client tool, but also internal servers when, for instance, running a job. u201CSystem Connectionsu201D is the subset of that total for all u201Cinternalu201D sessions, not directly opened by end users but by servers / components of the BOE cluster.
Tests you can do to prove the point :
-     Log on to Infoview with any user : observe Total Open Connections increases by 1, and System Connections stays the same.
-     Log off from Infoview : observe Total Open Connections decreases by 1, and System Connections stays the same.
-     Log back on to Infoview (Total Open Connections increases by 1), schedule a report to run now, wait for the job to be in running state : observe both Total Open Connections and Systems Connections increase by 1.
-     Wait for the job to complete, and when it is in a success (or failed) state : observe both Total Open Connections and System Connections decrease by 1.
-     Log off from Infoview : observe Total Open Connections decreases by 1, and System Connections stays the same.
Note that from a licensing standpoint, only the end user session count towards the license count. This is important for all CAL licensed systems.
To summarize and answer your specific questions :
u201CTotal Open Connectionsu201D = u201CSystem Connectionsu201D + end user open sessions
With 300 concurrent users, you would see u201CTotal Open Connectionsu201D at 300+ . The exact number of "System Connections" depends on what kind of activity the users are doing, and how many jobs are running at that time.
CMS database sessions are handled independently of Enterprise sessions : although a session is persisted in a the CMS repository, it is obviously held in memory and the CMS has also its own database connection pooling mechanism.

Selective printing in Business Objects XI R2 for WEBI / Desktop Intelligence / Dashboard

Hi, Requirement : The user would see a report in 2 forms in a page . this page can be either in desktop intelligence or in WEBI . 2 forms are 1) Grid layout where the data is displayed 2) Graphical picture of the report / data grid. User would like to print either one of the form of display not both. I would like to know if this is possible in BO XI R2 in WEBI or in Desktop Intelligence. As such BO Dashboard also used.. Since I am new to BO I might have missed out something. Do let me know if some more information is needed.

if you are using webi, it is very easy to convert grid into chart.
