Options Upgrade 8.1.7.2 to 11g R1

Hi,
I would appreciate some advice on upgrade path for 8.1.7.2 to 11g R1. The current 8.1.7.2 is running AIX v4.3.3 and we plan to run 11gR1 on AIX v5.3.
Our database is currently at 80GB or so for datafiles but the additional on top of this brings it to 2500GB which is logs, codetree, application related files.
What is the best was to migrate to 11g on a new environment? Here are my initial thoughts:
1. stand up a new environment with 11g already on it and perform an export import directly into 11g? Is this risky?
2. Mirror the existing setup on new hardware, and replicate the data onto another SAN so it is identicle to production, then patch to 8.1.7.3 which was the last release under oracle 8, before doing an upgrade to 10, then 11g.
I am looking for best practices, things I should consider or general lessons learnt in this particular area if possible.
Many Thanks
C

Hello,
With a 80 GB database, Export/Import is a good way.
I did a migration like that with a 130 GB database (8i --> 10g). More over, the customer kept the both databases (the old one and
the new one) for 2 month so as to compare and set the application behaviour.
However, you must care of your application too. Some application like SAP cannot be migrated straightly and need intermediate step.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin

I guess this question has been asked a lot in here.
But i guess i have some extra queries here
-> I m using oracle 8i and now I want to upgrade it to 11g. Is there any complications. I mean can i simply export a dump file from oracle 8i and import it in oracle 11g using imp tool, importing everything. If not what are not imported and what are other complications and consequences.
-> My front end is vb 6 so is there gonna be any problem. If it's unsupported which version would u prefer for vb 6
-> Can i install oracle 11g in windows xp or at least can i install oracle client in xp.
-> what kind of server would you suggest for oracle 11g.
Is there anybody to help me out here as quickly as possible.
    Thanx a lot

  • Issues after upgrading the Obiee from 10g to 11g

    Hi all,
We have recently upgraded our rpd from 10g to 11g. And a part of Webcatlog is being upgraded. We observe issues with the upgraded reports.
As the for the report prompts the script was taking lot of time. And the browser pop's a message either to 'stop' or 'continue'.
The report is taking lot of time to run than the usual 10g environment. And the path BP1 is also applied for the 11g environment.
Please suggest a troubleshoot method to overcome the issues with the upgraded reports.
    Thank you,
    Chris.

  • DB Upgrade from Oracle 8i to Oracle 11g express edition

    Hello,
As per the requirement i have to upgrade some of our application from oracle 8i to oracle 11g express edition on window base platform.
I am using import/export utility to migrate data from oracle 8i database to newly installed oracle 11g XE database. after importing i have tested my application in testing environment. It is working fine. Now I have to do this in production env. before proceeding with it.
please someone let me know what all things i have to keep in mind before execute in prod env. Like all risk, databse backup recovery, or any guidelines need to follow while upgrading lower version of oracle to 11g XE version.
    waiting for your valuable inputs.

You might want to consider what other programs interacts with the database; can they still connect to a much newer db server version? Any integrations that need a dry run before going in production? Any other "ad hoc" applications, like excel, running against the db? (you could use listener.log to find out what connects to the db, but a year worth of history might be needed)
Do you have any scripts or other "loosly coupled" stuff that needs review?
Read the New features guides released between versions - there are five or six of them.
Check out the Database Upgrade forum (you could look at this as an upgrade in general from 8.1.x to 11.2), {forum:id=583}. Search the forum for previous related topics and ideas.

  • Upgrade Portege A100 Wireless to 802.11g??

    Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the internal wireless chip in a Portege A100 to support 802.11g??
    Cheers
    G

    Hi again
This must be some series produced just for UK. The best way to find out is to visit http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com site. Under Products > Options and Accessories > Wireless communication you can find Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card - 802.11b/g (PA3300U-1MPC). This one should be compatible with Protg A100 P-M.
With a few mouse clicks you can find the answer alone. ;)

  • Upgrading ebs database from 10g to 11g

    Hi,
By following Interoperability Notes Oracle EBS 11i with Oracle Database 11gR2 (11.2.0.1) [ID 1265268.1]
i am doing a test upgrade.
As part of upgrade, only the oracle home location is changed. sid, host and port all are same as previous.
After running dbua, for autoconfig, changing the OH path in xml file and run autoconfig is fine? or any other steps are needed?
    Thanks,
    Kavitha

    Hi,
Could you please tell us which step you are refering to in the document. During upgrade you do not have to change the ORACLE HOME any where in XML file
But you need to run perl adbldxml.pl
As mentioned in step 22 of "Interoperability Notes Oracle EBS 11i with Oracle Database 11gR2 (11.2.0.1) [ID 1265268.1]"
    On application tier
         Source the env file
         $$ADPERLPRG $AD_TOP/bin/admkappsutilpl
    Copy appsutil.zip to $ORALCE_HOME/.
    Unzip –o appsutil.zip
    cp –r $11g oracle home <which came with rapidwiz> $ORACLE_HOM/appsutil/jre
    On the database tier
    Source database env file
    Export JRE_TOP=$ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/jre
    $cd $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin
    $perl adbldxml.pl
    $sh adconfig.sh
    Thanks

  • Oracle upgrade in Solution Manager 10g to 11g

    Dear Expert team ,
Our Solution Manager is running  in Windows 2003  with oracle 10g .

TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.2.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.2.0 - Production
    SQL>
Now I want to upgrade my Solution Manager 10 g to 11g .
what oracle component  should I download  and how to upgrade 10.2.0.2.0  to  11.2.0.3.0.
    Please suggest.
    Regards
    Pooja

    Hi
The upgrade is possible as stated in the here under note.
Previous version (v15) of that note was even a bit more clear it is possible but version 10.2.0.4 is preferred.
Direct upgrade from 10.2.0.2 should not be a problem, as it is even possible to have a direct upgrade from 9.2.0.8 to 11.2.0.4.
    1431793 - Oracle 11.2.0: Upgrade Scripts
A database < 9.2.0.8 must be upgraded to 9.2.0.8 before it can be upgraded directly to 11.2.0.4.
You should consider jumping directly to 11.2.0.4 that is the latest 11g version and the only one that will have a long term support.
    Regards
1431797 - Oracle 11.2.0: Troubleshooting the Database Upgrade
For a database upgrade from 10.2. to 11.2 the minimum release is 10.2.0.2. This release is not supported any more.
    1431797 - Oracle 11.2.0: Troubleshooting the Database Upgrade v15
We strongly recommend a minimum release 10.2.0.4 for the following reasons:
    a) All SAP internal database upgrade tests have been performed with
release 10.2.0.4. This upgrade path has been very well tested and
is documented in the SAP Database Upgrade Guide for Oracle Release
    11.2.
    b) Oracle Database Release 10.2.0.2 is not supported any more.

  • Need help regarding upgrading Oracle 10g Forms to Oracle 11g Fusion Middlew

    Hi All,
I am trying to create a workshop on a VM for showing the migration / upgrading of Oracle Forms 10g to Oracle 11g FMW using the Upgrade Assistant tool available in <ORACLE_HOME>/bin/ua.bat.
As per my understanding of pre-requisites:
    1)     I need to install Oracle SOA Suite 10g on my VM.
    2)     I also need to install Oracle SOA Suite 11g on my VM.
    3)     I need to install Oracle Forms/Reports Services 10g on my Oracle SOA Suite 10g installation.
    4)     I need to run Oracle Forms/reports installer on my Oracle SOA Suite 11g installation.
    5)     I need to run upgrade assistant tool on my VM to upgrade my form from source(Oracle SOA Suite 10g) to destination(Oracle SOA Suite 11g). Is it mandatory for this migration that I should have Oracle SOA Suite 10g and Oracle SOA Suite 11g on the same system ?
Having all these software installed on one VM would be difficult. So just wanted to check can I avoid any software to install on VM ?
If there is any alternative suggestion then please let me know.
    Regards,

What do you want to do with the SOA-suite? At least for Froms10G is is not necessary.

  • Upgrade 10.2.0.3 to 11g in E-business Suite

    Hi everyone,
We have applications 11.5.10.2 with database 10.2.0.3 (64-bit) running solaris sparc (64 bit) version 10 in our environment. I have been asked to upgrade just database from 10.2.0.3 to 11gR2. I am not sure upgrade for 11gr2 with applications 11.5.10.2 is certified on solaris! If not can i upgrade to 11gR1 instead of 11gR2?....plzzz guide me and help me if there is any documentation for the above?

11gR2 for Solaris was released this week - certification for use with EBS will take a while and should be completed soon. 11gR2 is only certified for EBS on Linux OS. Currently 11gR1 is the only 11g release certified with EBS 11i on Solaris. Pl see http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2008/12/oracle_database_11gr1_version_11107_certified_with_ebs_11i.html

  • "execute direct database request" option is not availavle in my OBIEE 11g

    Hi All Experts,
In my OBIEE-11g there is no option available of "execute direct database request" in subject area pane. Please give the solution.
    Thanks In Advance

By default, this privilege is only assigned to BI Administrator Role. I'm sure you are not under BI Administrator Role and that's the reason you can't find DDR option. Ask, you Administrator to provide your application role access to 'Execute Direct Database Analysis' & 'Edit Direct Database Analysis' under Manage Privileges > Answers.
Try using DDR very carefully...You shud understand its pros and cons
