Optiplex 3020 SFF Quad-Display Configuration

Hello all,
I have an Optiplex 3020 SFF which needs to have a quad-monitor display.  Currently installed is an NVIDIA NVS 300 (half-height) card (min-PCIe) with 2 monitors connected, this is OK.
I have another dual-head monitor card which is an AMD Radeon HD 5450.  When I connect a third monitor there is no display at all (correct drivers are installed etc), if I remove the  NVS 300 the monitors connected to the AMD work fine.
So it looks like in-compatible cards, any recommendations considering that there is a PCIe slot and Mini PCIe slot only.  Will another NVS 300 card work in anyone's experience?
OS: Windows 8.1
Desktop fully patched, BIOS and drivers are the latest on Dell website.
Thanks,
KG

ok so first off get FB off of servers. sounds like you have enough going on. it doesnt take much to make something not work like  a different Java version so get off that.
so let's say you are now on a few dev boxes that are client OS's
why are you wanting to go from 4.0 to 4.1 when you could jump to 4.5 and be done for a year  ?
if the migration is going to take some time then go for the gold or just stay where you are.
i cannot appreciate what you are going thru because i am always using the latest tool and sdk so keep that in mind but i don;t understand this 2 migrations in 1 year thing it is like passing a kidney stone twice

  • W530 and quad display configuration

    Hi,
I customized my W530 but in accesories it did not offer me a suitable docking station/port replicator for the four display configuration I need (3 monitors + display). Which of these

is W530 ready? My system graphics will be NVIDIA Quadro K2000M (if it's relevant).
    Thank you!

To partially answer my question it is none of those replicators in the link. I found a different link where w530 is explicitely mentioned:

  • Quad display resolution?

I am thinking about upgrading from my current x200t to something with optimus to do the following quad set-up
ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 Quad Display Configuration:
    1st Display: Active ThinkPad display
2nd Display: VGA analog monitor attached to the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W (4338) VGA analog port.
3rd Display: DisplayPort or DVI digital monitor attached to the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W (4338) DisplayPort or DVI digital port (left side pair).
4th Display: DisplayPort or DVI digital monitor attached to the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W (4338) DisplayPort or DVI digital port (right side pair).
does this mean I can run the thinkpadp display, one 24" at 1920x1200 via VGA and two 30" at 2560x1600 via DisplayPort?

well the T410, T510 with Optimus can support that, i haven't heard may people using 2 x 30 inch WQXGA resolution + 1 x WUXGA. Most people i know whom this setup uses 3 x 24 inches.
Depending on what you do, you may want to try the newer T420, T520, which can support internal display + displayport out at WQXGA + WUXGA on the VGA without the dock installed.
The new W520 should also support optimus, but most official resources said that it support only 3 monitors.

  • Officejet Pro 8500 A909g Scan-To-Network-Folder Problem On New Dell Optiplex 3020

I hope that I am posting this issue to the correct board.
I recently purchased a Dell Optiplex 3020 64-bit desktop running Windows 7 Pro. My home network now has the old HP printer and my original 2003 vintage Sony Vaio XP Home 32-bit on wired connections. There is also an HP Notebook 64-bit running Windows 7 Home, using a WiFi connection. I replaced a Linux clone (which had connected ok to the printer) with the new Dell on the same wired connection.
With the other 2 PCs, I was able to set up Scan To Network Folder using the original HP software with no problems. I used a current setup file from the HP site to set up the Dell. The file is: "OJP 8500vA909_Full_14 HP Webpack". The Dell prints fine, but when I try to set up the network scan folders on the Dell the setup stalls and I get a request for an SSL certificate. I don't know if this is being generated by the OS or by the HP setup file that I downloaded. I can't figure out how to get the network folders to work on the new Dell, and I know next to nothing about SSL.
To be clear, the old Sony is a 32-bit Windows Home Edition, the HP notebook is Windows 7 Home 64-bit, and the new Dell is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Sometime soon, the Sony will be retired and the OS environment will become much simpler.
While I'm at it, I probably should update the printer firmware. However, my guess is that I should wait to do that until the old 32-bit Sony goes out to pasture.
TIA for any advice and suggestions.

    Hi Alla-guy,
As far as I know, you have posted your issue to the correct board, now let us see what we can do to get it resolved
I will answer your easier question first, in regards to the firmware. You can update the firmware whenever you are ready! You don't need to wait for the other computer to reach it's end, as the firmware is just within the hardware of the printer and shouldn't affect anything software wise on the computer, so go ahead and update the firmware when you have a few minutes!
As for the setting up to scan to a network folder, it is odd that it's asking for SSL, do you know if you're the administrator on the new computer?
I realize the instructions in this Set up and Use Direct Digital Filing for Windows document are for setup, but still have a look and make sure that is how things were going for yourself. Also, it may be a good idea to check any firewalls or anti-virus that you have and temporarily disable any firewalls or programs that could be blocking things over the network.
Let me know how this goes for you!

  • Dell OptiPlex 3020: I only get sound from the internal speakers

I have a brand new Dell OptiPlex 3020 running Windows 8.1. I am able to hear through the internal speakers, but I cannot get external speakers or headphones to work - I've tried both the jacks on the front and back.
The microphone on my headset works correctly, but I still hear only through the internal speakers.
    Advice?

    Good day!
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
Boot into the System Bios and make sure that Onboard Devices- Integrated Audio is On. Then exit the System Bios saving the change. Once back into Windows, open the Device Manager and make sure that ADI1983 HDA appears under Sound devices. Then re-test the rear green audio jack #4 using headphones. Also, reply to this post with the service tag of the system sent via private message so that I can look into the details of the system and assist you better.
    Have a great day ahead.

  • W530 Quad Display Options

    Hey Everyone,
So I just recently learned that the lenovo docks cannot display 3 independent external displays with the w530 as the 4th.
One rep even told me that if I were to try to set up a quad display, that one of the displays would merely be a clone of what's on the laptop (unacceptable).
Does anyone have a good work around for this?
For example, what if I combine the lenovo dock with a ViDock 4 ?
    Or perhaps a DynaDock 3.0 ?
Are these solutiions "overkill" when combined with the lenovo dock?
Is there a more efficient/cheaper solution to be had?
Ideally, I would like to just stick the w530 into the lenovo dock and have 3 independent external displays working along with the laptop as the 4th display, and then eject the w530 from the lenovo dock without any fuss.
What do you think? Any help or suggestions on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you very much.

The DOCK cannot drive more than 3 external displays, but the W530 can indeed drive four external monitors the same way as the T420/T520 series was found to support by accident and the newer ??30 series machines support by design:
The readme for the Optimus video card drivers is enlightening, as is the Intel HD Graphics readme:
    ??30-series machines: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/g5de33ww.txt
    ??20-series machines: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/83de44ww.txt
    Intel HD Graphics: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/21430/eng/relnotes_gfx64_2761.pdf
Scroll down to "Display Topology" in the Optimus driver readme's and you'll see this:
For the T?30's *EXCEPT* the T430s/T430si models, the Intel chipset controls the VGA ports and the NVidia NVS controls all the digital ports, and the Intel HD Graphics chipset controls all the VGA ports.
For the T430s/T430si models, the Intel HD Graphics chipset controls EVERYTHING.
For the W530 models, the Quadro K-series controls everything _EXCEPT_ the build-in LCD screen on the laptop which is powered by the Intel chipset.
The K-series Quadro cards can all drive 4 displays from what I've found. These are found in the W530-series.
The Quadro cards in the W520 could only drive 3 displays.
The ??30-series-used "3rd Generation Core" Intel HD Graphics options can drive 3 displays.
The ??20-series-used "2nd Generation Core" Intel HD Graphics options can drive 2 displays.
This means that the T430s/T430si can possibly only drive two external displays.
The W530 can drive four external displays + the internal (Quadro: 4 of your choice between the dock and laptop ports;Intel laptop's built-in screen)
The T530/T430 can possibly drive FIVE external displays though this is theoretical and 100% unsupported/untested by Lenovo even if it works so a later BIOS update may well disable this somehow. (Quadro: 2 digital on the dock, DP on the laptop; Intel: VGA on the dock, VGA on the laptop,  laptop's built-in screen)
NONE of the options can drive more than 3 external monitors digitally however. And the dock cannot power more than 2 digital screens of those three, because the DVI/DP ports are actually paired, effectively DP->DP+DVI repeaters/splitters inside the dock.

    4. In case any of the previous operations work but the settings don't "stick".  There are two plists associated with the settings:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver.XXXXX-XXXXXXX.plist
The first is global to all accounts while the second is in your home directory.  The X's are a sequence of hyphaninated  letters and numbers.  If you can get these removed then it will probably revert to a default resolution.

  • Resume hook for changed display configuration

    Hi arch forum,
I need some help configuring my resume process. First the scenario:
I'm working with my notebook (ThinkPad T420s) on the train
and when I get off the train I close the lid and the notebook suspends. When I get to work
I drop the notebook into the docking station, where an external monitor is connected.
If I hit the power button on the docking station the notebook resumes without opening the lid,
but it does not check for changed display configuration. I have to open the lid and type my password to
    get the new configuration started.
Question is: Is it possible to create a resume hook, so that X checks for the changed setup on resume before I opened the lid?
If someone could direct me to the right place in the wiki that would be great.
Now I should specify my configuration:
    Gnome3 and proprietary nvidia drivers
Its a new installation so I have a systemd only setup (which takes care of suspend/resume so far)
If you need to know more, just ask.
Thanks for any help in advance,

  • T530 multiple display configuration lead to errors when closing the laptop

    Hello,
I have a Lenovo T530 2429CTT and I am having some trouble when trying to set up my multiple display configuration with a Lenovo ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3.
I have an external Samsung LCD monitor which is connected to the Mini Dock via DisplayPort.
I am running Win 7 Prof.
The problem I see is with an application which uses DirectX. The display looks fine in the following configuration:
    - Laptop open
    - External Samsung LCD Monitor on
    - Display cloned so that both devices show my desktop
The issues appear when I close the laptop. I do this because in my office I only work with the external monitor so I don't need the internal display of the laptop at that moment.
When I close the laptop the following happens:
The external display gets dark for some seconds. It comes up again, gets dark and after a while (maybe 10 sec) it stays active. Sometimes I see a notification that the color scheme has changed to Win 7 basic.
Everything seems to be fine now but when looking at the DirectX based display of my application I have some problems for example with the refresh (the display looks very weird).
BTW: The laptop has an internal and an external graphic card (Internal: Intel HD 4000, External: NVIDIA NVS 5400M).
So it seems as when the laptop gets closed, the internal graphics will be turned off. Due to this the display on the external monitor also changes the settings of the graphhic card (maybe it gets turned in an energy saver state).
I was looking at many of the NVIDIA settings without any success so hopefully somebody in this forum has an idea what is happening there.
    Thanks,
    Andreas

  • T530 multiple display configuration

I have the T530 with the NVIDIA Optimus option that should allow a triple display configuration (two external displays and the laptop LCD).
I have been able to get a working configuration with the laptop LCD and two external displays over DisplayPort through the docking station.
I have found that upon some boot cycles, I am either stuck with just the laptop LCD as the only display or I am able to turn on only one external display. Sometimes a reboot will change it, sometimes it will not.
What's strange is that the NVIDIA control panel and the Windows display settings show all three LCDs, I am just not able to turn on one or both of the external displays (even if I turn off the laptop LCD).
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
    Thank you!
    Solved!

    Hi, admarsha
There are updates available for both your BIOS and Optimus that may help this issue. The BIOS update can be found here and the Optimus update can be found here. Looking over the ReadMe for the Nvidia update, part of the update does help with issues connected to multiple displays through docking stations so it may help.
    Best,
    Adam

  • Xorg display configuration files.

I tried to change my display configuration using gnome-control-center.
setting to a too small configuration know I cannot undo it and screwed the display on my screen.
I can still do Ctrl+Alt+Fx to delete/edite file.
    I tried to follow this document https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xo … ng_started
    But i didn't change anything.
Does somenone know what file should I delete to return to my normal configuration?
    Best Regards

If the gnome-control-center is a frontend for xrandr, try opening a terminal in gnome and typing "xrandr --output WHATEVER --mode RESOLUTION". The name of the output can be found with an "xrandr -q". An example command would be "xrandr --output DVI-0 --mode 1600x1200". If this is a one time fix and gnome doesn't save it, an xorg.conf with the following section will be able to override it.
    Section "Screen"
    SubSection "Display"
    Modes "1600x1200"
    EndSubSection
    EndSection

  • Thinkstation D20 & Quad SLI Configuration using 2 X Nvidia N295GTX Problem.

I got the new D20 with Dual Quad-Core W5580 Processors, 16GB RAM, 2 SAS HDs.  Tried to install 2 IDENTICAL Nvidia N295GTX GPUs with its SLI connector, at the BIOS level, it gave me one log beep & 3 consecutive ones & the Monitor is Blank. Checked the BIOS & enabled the SLI GPUs to communicate with each other through the SLI Flex connector. Still didn't work. bearing in mind that i've corrrectly connected the GPU power cables (6&8 Pin cables for each card). Upgraded the BIOS to the latest version. I installed each card seperately, they worked perfectly, Problem starts when i install them in a Quad SLI configuration.

SurferGuy - welcome to the forum!
one long and three short beeps is a keyboard error.   are you sure it isn't one long and two short beeps?   if so, this means your video cards are incompatible for some reason.   i don't know if this is a BIOS limitation or something limiting the D20 from working with four GPU cores.   since the D20 was originally intended to be used as a workstation, it's possible that dual GTX 295s were never tested in these systems since these are desktop/gaming cards.
this isn't caused by insufficient power.   if this were the case, the GTX 295s themselves would beep.   the PSU on the D20 is rated to 1080W and natively supports dual 6+8 pin PCIe power sockets.   1080W is plenty for dual GTX 295s at 289W each as long as you aren't somehow running over 500W of other accessories.
at this point i suggest calling service to see if they have any suggestions.   as far as i know, your cards aren't officially supported and may not even work at this point in time.   a BIOS update may change this in the future but i cannot speak in more detail at this point in time.

JohnClin - Missing some information from you here.
If you are getting "black screen" boot problems, then getting the latest drivers from Dell won't help.
*HOW* are you booting up? Sounds like you are doing a PXE boot here (or USB vs DVD vs hard disk boot). Did you boot up to a PXE server with a verified uEFI image? Tells is about your PXE server. Specifically, does the Dell 3020 support CSM, and BIOS
    PXE (I doubt it).
Also, in the uEFI world, we don't call it a BIOS anymore, we call it firmware. :)...
