Or at the least - What's a good place to post AE project for hire? (freelance, etc)

Assuming no one from this forum wants to take the task itself (see prior post), which would be best
Thanks everybody.  I really appreciate it!

Well, I have a Mighty Mouse and thought it is nice and does look pretty, the right click doesn't always work and it doesn't work at all in Windows, which for me is a deal breaker. Unfortunately I found this out long after I'd bought it...
I have nothing against the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard. A friend of mine has one and it's rather nice. Very rugged and easy to clean (it's amazing what you can do with a tube of water and a hair dryer). However I don't like desktop style keys. I like lighter keys that I don't have to force down as much or as far, like a laptop.
If Apple comes out with a keyboard like that tomorrow I'll buy it without thinking twice. I've been trying to figure out how hard it would be to buy an Apple MacBook Pro keyboard and create a housing for it... Though it'd probably be rather hard.

    What kind of devices?  I'm not sure what type of outlet you are referring to.

    I'm pretty sure all "chat sites" work with both Mac and PC.  Define what you mean by "chat site".  Perhaps I am misunderstanding.

  • What's a good way to manage custom schema for DS  5.1?

    What's a good way to manage custom schema?
    Custom Schema for Object Class and Attributes
    The reason I ask this is because there might be a need in the future where I need to export those custome schema into different branded directory server. I just want to make this as painless as possible.
    Right now, I thought of 2 options
    1) Create my own LDIF file with my custom attributes and object classes, so if one day I need to export to another directory server, I can just copy that custom created LDIF file over. (Will this work?)
    2) Create a JAVA application using JNDI. What this Java App. will do is read through a XML file and create those object classes and attributes on-the-fly. (of course, the XML structure will be predefined by me, so that my Java App. will be able to parse through it correctly. Will this work?)
    Anymore suggestion? I would want to hear more advices and suggestions.
    Also, I assume that will work even with replication. All I need to update is the master server, and the slaves will replicate automatically.
    Thank you very much! :)

    Demo: I'm using the nul character to represent the end of the word, so that the data structure can represent that "hell" and "hello" are both in the vocabulary:
    import java.util.*;
    class Node {
        private SortedMap<Character, Node> children = new TreeMap<Character, Node>();
        //0 <= index <= word.length()
        private void add(String word, int index) {
            if (index == word.length()) {
                children.put(Character.valueOf('\u0000'), null);
            } else {
                char ch = word.charAt(index);
                Node child = children.get(ch);
                if (child == null) {
                    children.put(ch, child = new Node());
                child.add(word, index+1);
        public void add(String word) {
            if (word == null || word.length()==0)
                throw new IllegalArgumentException();
            add(word, 0);
        public String toString() {
            return children.toString();
    public class Example {
        public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
            Node root = new Node();
            root.add("hello");
            root.add("how");
            root.add("who");
            root.add("hell");
            System.out.println(root.toString());
    }

  • What is a good codec to convert MTS too for edting?

    I heard that MTS or AVCHD footage is not good to edit with. What is a good codec to convert too?

    No.
    "Rendering" in working through PrPro is actually just telling the program to take the instruction set for an area selected and create new previews for that section. They are NOT really to be used in any final export process (there are only about two format/codecs that would work that way, and likely no one reading this is using them ... ) but JUST for playability in "real time" in the monitors during editing.
    It is needed if between the computer specs & drive layout, the number of effects called for in a clip, and the particular codecs used, the playback causes the GPU to "drop frames" or get slow/erratic in motion. You simply select that section of the sequence, then right-click or go to the upper menu system or keyboard-short to "render selection". You computer runs for a bit, then ... playing back that section should be full-speed.
    Someone who say uses mts files (which can at times be a bit of work behind the scenes for the hardware) and never needs to render before he's done with a project and exports it is saying that his computer handles mts file just fine with the level of effects he uses without needing to render any sections or suffer 'dropped frames' on playback.

  • What's a good place to discuss hardware selection?

    Hi, I have read various documents on the Adobe site, but I am still confused about hardware selection for Photoshop and Premiere. Is there a good place on the forums to discuss that? I saw one question on this forum asked a while ago, but it got no replies.

    The hardware requirements of Photoshop and Premiere can be different. It might depend upon the type of work you do on each program. I'd ask in the Photoshop windows area what they would recommend for running Photoshop. Tell them the type of work you do with them. I'd ask a similar question in the Premiere forum. This isn't really double posting, since the answers could be quite different. Again I cannot emphasize more that you need to tell them the type of work you do with the programs.

  • No good place to post this question

    Sorry, but I did scour all of the topics and couldn't find a good place to ask this
    My company is building a website that will be of interest to college students. We are going to accept advertising at some point. In the interim, we're going to seed the site with free ads. One thing we'd like to do is include some of the great ads that Apple produces, at no cost, of course.
    So, is it illegal to put Apple ads at a website? A quick Google search sees lots of people posting them here and there. Is it okay, or is it something Apple just doesn't pursue because free publicity is not a bad thing?
    We, um, don't wish to be sued by Apple, of course, and I suspect this forum isn't the place for legal advice, but I figured perhaps someone here could enlighten us on a few rules or point out a direction for us to pursue this. After all, the more people who see the ads, the better, no?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

    Hi, Rob.
    > ... I suspect this forum isn't the place for legal advice ...
    Generally speaking it isn't, although that doesn't always stop us from adding our two cents. ; - )
    But rather than offer my opinion on the matter, here are a few links that might get you in contact with the appropriate people:

  • Which is the most appropriate place to post a request for survey responses?

    I'm intending to post a (short) survey on the use of the Java Sound API, as a part of a usability evaluation of it.
    I'd guess that as the top of the "popular" list, here would be a good place to do it, but I wouldn't want to step on any toes/infringe any rules....
    If not here, then any suggestions on where else?
    I'd also like to post to some kind of sound-specific forum, but there doesn't seem to be anything dedicated to the Sound API. As the idea would beto pick up responses from people who work more regularly with sound, have you any suggestions on where there might be a good deal of traffic?
    TIA for any suggestions.

    Hi Elegent,
    I prefer, create a database function, which will accept code as a parameter and return its corresponding values, for example IN parameter as EmpCode and return as EmpName / DeptName / Designation etc. You can add all your Master tables info into this function and can be given execute privilege to preferred users.
    In case any changes, you can easily edit your function instead of opening report and make alterations. For optimization, you can use Case statement inside function instead of IF..END IF;
    Regards

  • What's a good Windows application to convert videos for the iPhone 3G?

    I've heard that Handbrake is great for converting videos to the iPhone 3G format but the current version has a bug in AAC decoding so it won't work for me.
    Are there any other alternatives that are easy to use but produce full quality iPhone videos?

    i use a program called 'videora iPhone 3G converter' available for free from www.videora.com to convert video's to iPhone compatible files. it is very easy to use. (for windows only)

  • What's a good desktop environment/general system UI for a television?

    So right now I just upgraded to Arch (without planning to do so, but that's another story) on my media station, and I'm trying to figure out what desktop environment to use with it.  It is hooked up to an old analog TV as the only display (I do most of my configuration via ssh and the command line), and my wife (who's not a Linux user by any stretch) uses it a lot.
    I'm finding Gnome 3 (since it had Gnome on it before I just went with that) is really not suited to this purpose.  It seems to want things like a higher resolution than what can be readable easily on the TV, and if I set it to a lower resolution setting menus will get pushed off the screen.  I also prefer something where I can do all the configuration from the command line, because I'm usually going to be configuring it remotely.
    What the media station does normally is play videos in VLC (either saved video files or DVDs), play YouTube videos in a browser, and move around and delete files on the desktop with a mouse.  The way the keyboard is set up it's hard to use as well.  So I'm wanting something that makes all of those really simple with the constraints of a low resolution TV, and avoids needing the keyboard if at all possible.
    Any suggestions?
    Bonus points if people can come up with a way that someone can easily move around and delete the files from a browser on a Windows machine, as that's what my wife has with her a lot when she's sitting at the couch.  She doesn't want to install anything on that computer or use things like Windows filesharing though.

    LXDE isn't optimal if CLI configuration matters to you... but does this really matter if you expect to set it up once and be done with it?
    Openbox' XML syntax is needlessly annoying if you don't want to use the optional GUIs or other little helpers, I'd go with a simple window manager rather than a DE.
    Fluxbox is easy, text-friendly and doesn't require a DE on top to meet modern expectations. Personally, I think a well-tweaked FVWM beats the pants off anything else.
    Nevertheless, debugging the wife seems to be a higher priority for now... with good suggestions already.

  • What is a good Arctic silencer (or other brand) for an AGP 7800 GS?

    I went to Arctic's site (http://www.arctic-cooling.com/) and looked all over but the closest thing I could find to what I needed for a silencer was only for PCIe Macs. Does anyone know of a good silencer made by anyone that will silence a 7800 GS inside of an AGP June 2004 Power Mac? I have been looking for a really long time to find one and just haven't been able to come across one.
    Thanks

    You are going to have to research how PC users dealt with this, as they were / are the place where 99% of these cards went.
    Here is your problem:
    http://www.alasir.com/reviews/bfggeforce_7800gs_agp/bfg_geforce_7800gsagp-rdrem.html
    The small bridge chip to the left also needs to be in contact with a cooling surface.
    You should google around and see what PC users did for this card. Keep in mind that it's heyday was 2006.
    You MUST cool both surfaces, or your card will burn out PRONTO.
    I have an NV5 Arctic Cooler here, and it doesn't look like it would work. But I don't know which revision it is...Arctic has a heights drawing which shows elevations...you might might to compare.
    FYI...there was also a 6800GS AGP card which used same circuit board layout with the HSI chip in same place, so a cooler for it should work as well.

  • CAN ONE HAVE THREE COPIES OF THE SAME DATABASE AND USE THEM ALTERNATLEY IN LIGHTROOM TO SEARCH FOR KEY WORDS, ETC?

    I have two back ups and a traveling copy of my work.  Each is 4 terabites and growing.  I want to apply keywords to he images in Lighroom, copy the new information to the other two drives which are backups and use any of the three in any of three computers.  The keywords are installed in all three computers, but how does the computer know it is a different hard drive without keying in all three hard drives.

    If each drive is set up exactly the same, with all image paths concurrent, you should be able to substitute the .lrcat with the newly keyworded info. into any one of them and that should bring in all info with a minimum of work. However, it does require diligence in keeping good track of which catalog is the "Master".
