    Folks,

    This seems to happen after a core dump (memory leak?). No recovery is going on and the database functions normally afterwards.
    Why would the database try to access old log filles when not recovering?
    Thanks,

  • Clone from standby  ended in ARC: Cannot archive online log based on backup

    Hi
    I m into scenario where my prod db is in one data center and standby is in other data center.
    Both are geographically separated. I have to get a copy of prod on to standby data center side.
    Sending data over the network is taking long time either with duplicate db from active db or take backup and copy over standby side and restore it.
    so i thought of duplicate db from standby db which is in same data center, using 11g RMAN duplicate from active standby command.
    I have simulated scenario which is as below
    oracle version 11.2.0.1
    os version REHL 5.4
    My procedure & parameter are as below.
    on standby side from where i m copying (TARGET)
    1) on standby
    alter database recover managed standby db cancel;
    2)alter database convert to snapshot standby;
    which gave me
    /u01/data/DGSTD/archive/1_152_750425930.dbf
    /u01/data/DGSTD/archive/1_153_750425930.dbf
    */u01/data/DGSTD/archive/1_1_752604441.dbf*
    */u01/data/DGSTD/archive/1_2_752604441.dbf*
    3) alter database open;
    4) alter system switch logfile;
    now from rman
    RMAN> connect target sys/system@DGSTD
    connect auxiliary sys/system@GGR
    connected to target database: DGPRM (DBID=578436102)
    RMAN>
    connected to auxiliary database: NOTREAL (not mounted)
    RMAN>

    allocate channel prmy2 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy3 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy4 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy5 type disk;
    allocate auxiliary channel stby1 type disk;
    duplicate target database to ggr from active database

    set 'sga_max_size'='140m'
    set 'pga_aggregate_target'='28940697'
    nofilenamecheck;
    and when output of rman reaches up below
    Starting backup at 31-MAY-11
    channel prmy1: starting datafile copy
    input datafile file number=00001 name=/u01/data/DGSTD/datafile/system01.dbf
    channel prmy2: starting datafile copy
    input datafile file number=00002 name=/u01/data/DGSTD/datafile/sysaux01.dbf
    in alert log of clone db it gives massive error saying
    ARC3: Cannot archive online log based on backup controlfile
    ARC2: Cannot archive online log based on backup controlfile
    ARC3: Cannot archive online log based on backup controlfile
    ARC2: Cannot archive online log based on backup controlfile
    and it fill up whole fs. and finally duplicate command throws error.
    not sure what i m missing of inside duplicate command or is it valid to duplicate database from snapshot standby.
    can somebody light on it please

    duplicate target database to ggr from active database
    spfile
    parameter_value_convert='DGSTD','GGR','/u01/data/DGSTD/','/u01/data/ggr/'
    set db_file_name_convert='/u01/oradata/DGSTD/','/u01/data/ggr/'

    set 'sga_max_size'='140m'
    set 'pga_aggregate_target'='28940697'
    nofilenamecheck;
    }I think you should use standby cluase as
    DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO dup1 FOR STANDBY FROM ACTIVE DATABASE;

    Hi,
    We are trying to run a package remotly and while executing the package . we are getting ORA-00210: cannot open the specified controlfile. I did crosscheck the controlfile through v$controlfile parameter and the ctlfile shows there. I did also go thorugh with metalink, it says you need to chech weather some process has locked it, or the max number of open file limit of OS. I would appriciate, if you can describe both of the above options.

  • Cannot open online pdf

    I "upgraded" to Firefox 4 today, and I'm now unable to open online pdf documents. They start to load (Acrobat appears, and I start to see a small portion of the document), and then the screen within that tab goes blank. This did not occur in the previous version of Firefox, and it does not occur with Internet Explorer.
    Basics:
    * I'm running Windows XP
    * I have Adobe Reader 7.0
    * I do not have Adobe Pro, or any paid version
    * Adobe's "preferences>internet" is set to "display pdf in browser"
    * In Firefox "tools>applications," Adobe document is set to "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)"
    How do I fix this?

    RESOLVED
    I found two suspect programs that were installed within the last 48-hrs that may have caused the problem
    1) - Libre Office - latest update.  This is a fork of Open Office.  (unlikely)
    2) - ManyCam video manipulation software  (likely)
    Following info here, I opted to try to open an Adobe PDF file that was on my hard drive.  When I did, it refused and IE10 gave me an ActiveX error (AHA!!).   When I checked the installation of ManyCam, it had installed a version of DirectX that may have over-written the resident versions or disabled them somehow.
    I uninstalled ManyCam but left Libre Office's update in place, then I ran a system restore from a point 24-hrs before the installations.
    This resolved the problem 100%.
    So, the suggestion here is that there may be one or more program in the wild that is interupting the ActiveX or DirectX systems.  They may be running or installing an older version.  In this case it appears the handlers were broken.
    Once the system restore had completed I was able to open Adobe PDF files within my IE10 browser from the Internet as well as open PDF files from my hard drive.
    Note that this same issue also clearned up a problem I was having with the Comodo Dragon web browser, which is a fork of the Chrome project.  Once I eliminated the suspect program and ran the system restore all was well.  In the instance of the Comodo browser it was unable to open or reach anything - dead white screen below the menu bar.
    So my suggestion would be to take an inventory of recent program installations, remove/uninstall them, run system restore from a date before the suspect programs were added, and see what happens.  In my case that fixed the problem.

  • ORA-22292: Cannot open a LOB in read-write mode without a transaction ORA-06512

    I'm trying to do an update of a clob, and have come up against this error. all similar posts i can find on this site mention the not locking the record before the update...
    cheers in advance :-)

    Set it to Required. The bean will join a transaction if one is started or start a new one if not.

    I now realized what happened and how this happened. During a clean-up effort this file was accidentally deleted and unfortunately we don’t have any backups.
    I am willing to lose the data. Is there something I can do so that the startup does not try to open this file ?
    All I am able to do now is to mount the database but not open it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Daniel
