ORA-01031 when connecting as sysdba after upgrading DB 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3

Hello everyone
I have just finished upgrading my development database from 10.2.0.1.0 to 10.2.0.3.0. I have also upgraded my workstation client software to 10.2.0.3.0. Everything appears to be working fine except that I can no long access the new database "as sysdba" from my client computer. Each time I try to login using sys/password@mydb as sysdba I get an ORA-01031: Insufficient privileges error.
I have no problem connecting to the database using any other normal user. I can connect using "/ as sysdba" from the server console and I also have no problem accessing my production database -- which is still 10.2.0.1 using the 10.2.0.3 drivers. The server is running SLES9 while my workstation runs openSUSE 10.2.
Any help will be most welcome
Thanks in advance.
Thanassis.

Ensure you have your password file inatct (recreate it if necessary).
HTH,

  • ORA-01031 WHEN CONNECTING TO AUXILIARY DATABASE

    Hi
i am currently trying to to create a standby database using RMAN using the ORACLE RMAN Backup and recovery book.
I get the ORA-01031 when i connect to the auxiliary database.
    i do the following:
    RMAN> connect target sys/password@primary

    RMAN > connect auxiliary sys/password@aux1
    ORA-01031.............insufficient privileges
obviously the database aux1 hasnt been created yet but i have configured the tns and listener and both work fine, also created a password file and created a pfile from the spfile in the primary database as instructed by the book. I also started the aux1 database in nomount mode as well.
does any one have any ideas where i maybe going wrong?
    thanks

Who can shed some light on my ongoing connection problem.
After upgrading my iPad Air with IOS 7.06, I could no longer connect to the internet.
I have 2 MacBooks Air, 1 ipad mini and one iPhone 4S running on the same network, and they are all connected to the net and function well.
So I cleaned up the ipad completely, installed the latest firmware and reinstalled my apps : no connection.
I tried all things of resets and forgets. No result.
I have been fondling with my Airport Extreme 5 , but that did not help much.
This morning I went to a neighbor , hooked my ipad air on his network, typed the password and the thing all worked fine.
I have tried to connect the ipad air as an ethernet client, but that did not work. „Not enough power“ was the statement
    Ideas anyone ?

Yes I tried this manyfold. But did not work.  Reading on, I took Tesserac's advice. Shut down router and computer.
Start router after 15 minutes and wait another 10 minutes before starting the computer.
Et voila.... everything is back in working order,

    1st problem see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls
2nd problem, to close Firefox properly use File > Exit
:not with the [x] in upper right corner which close window
    :see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs#Hang_at_exit
:if restarting use "Restartless Restart" extension as mentioned there.

  • After installing MAWI error ORA-01031 when trying to connect as sysdba

    I've installed mawi 2.18 on a brand new 10.2.0.5 ORACLE_HOME.
After installing the patch i cannot connect anymore to the database as sysdba: the error i got is:
    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
If i unset TWO_TASK (as stated in mawi install procedure) and replace it by ORACLE_SID it works.
What's the correct setup to handle both sysdba connection and MAWI setup ?
    thanks
    Chris

You could create two seperate env files. The EOF.env for TWO_TASK access and then another env file of yoru choice for SYSDBA access replacing TWO_TASK with ORACLE_SID and depending on whether you are using sysdba access or regular MW access you would execute the correct env file. I would also place the SYSDBA env file in the actual ORACLE_HOME directory.

  • Throwing error ORA- 01031 while connecting as sys, but not with system

    Hi
we are having oracle 10g on one of the server. When I try to connect sqlplus "/as sysdba"..its throwing error
    ORA- 01031: Insufficient privelege.
But when I tried login with sqlplus system@dbname its getting connected properly. whats the reason behind this? It was
    working fine till yesterday.
    Thanks
    Shiyas M

The reason for this can partly be seen in your profile,
you have asked 17 questions, and 17 of them have been unresolved.
    This isn't very likely,
so likely you are too lazy to label a question as answered.
Your laziness is also indicated by this question, which is a FAQ, and FAQs are most often asked, by people who
    - don't read documentation
    - don't use online resources
    - don't search this forum
    prior to asking their FAQ.
Your equation of SYS as SYSDBA and the SYSTEM account is also incorrect, as SYSTEM doesn't have SYSDBA privileges.
The ORA-1031 simply means someone somehow disabled OS authentication.
Now it is up to you to find out why.
Either by using online resources, or by reading documentation, and researching your own database.
Not by asking a FAQ and never marking any answer as correct.

  • Remote Desktop Connection stop working after upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6.1

I too could not connect to a W2K3 server with RDC 2.0.1 after upgrading from Mac OS X, 10.5.8 to 10.6/10.6.1. I have another Mac which is on 10.5.8 and connect fine with the same version of RDC 2.0.1 as well as other PC with Terminal Service Clients.
There is no change on the server side. I have uninstalled and reinstalled RDC 2.0.1 several time and it did not resolve the issue. To rule out firewall/network, I tested with another remote desktop application called CoRD (for Mac) on the same laptop running SL 10.6.1 and it connected to the same W2K3 server fine.
One thing that is worth mentioning (in my case), when it does not connect, RDC totally quit (not running anymore. Not minimize, no cannot connect error message, no little dot on the Dock for RDC, nothing) right after I put in the credential in. When looking at the log entries that are related to RDC in the Console application, I see the following

    Any help would be appreciated

Doing some more troubleshooting after my post above as I saw a couple of entries referencing Stop Light keep popping up in the log of the Console. I removed Stoplight and Cocoa Gesture (for good meausre) and RDC 2.0.1 started working. I think it is Stop Light which causes RDC stop working, but I don't have to time right now to put Cocoa Gesture back to confirm that. I might if I have the time or post here if you have Stop Light installed as well and removing it resolved the RDC issue for you.

  • ORA-12560 when logging as SYSDBA in 11gR2 db installed in Windows 7

I have installed Oracle 11gR2 in Windows 7. I setup all listener and tnsname file and can login to the database like following:
    sqlplus cisadm/cisadm@demo
However, it throws ORA-12560 error when loggin as sysdba as below:
    sqlplus / as sysdba
I have read some previous post and already set ORACLE_SID=DEMO. But it still doesn't work.
I wonder if my 11gR2 was not installed properly as I also cannot use Administartion Assistant for Windows which throws "MMC could not create snap-in" error.

This because of previously installed database.
I feel that you have un installed but you have not completely removed Oracle Instances.
After the deinstall from Oracle Installer, Oracle leaves some services still running and some folders which wont be deleted .
You have to manually delete these folders.
Or follow these steps and try.
    1) First step is to stop all the services relevant to Oracle database 11g. In windows 7 navigate from Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services
    2) Click on Oracle Service OracleServiceORACLE_SID,OracleDBConsoleOracle_SID,OracleOraDB11g_homeTNSListener and Click on Link stop. Also stop these services if they are enabled - OracleMTSRecoveryService, OracleJobSchedulerOracle_SID
    3) Now its time to remove references from Registry. In Windows 7 search box type regedit. This opens the Registry Editor
    4) Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Click on Software. Choose Oracle Folder. Delete it completely. Also Remove HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services and remove oracle relevant entries from there (All will have either Oracle or Ora prefix)
    5) Remove the PATH variable from environment variables if set
    6) Delete the database files manually from the local machine
In this process of deleting files I got an error which said windows process WmiPrvSE.exe process makes use of certain dlls such as oracell11.dll,oraldapclnt11.dll etc. I renamed the bin folder to bin_old. I restarted the system and it fixed the issue

  • Cannot connect to shares after upgrade to Tiger

    Hi,
I work at an IT company that manages both Macs and PCs. We just performed a site-wide upgrade for one of our clients from 10.3.9 to 10.4.6 (and on to 10.4.9).
We have 2 iBooks, a PowerMac, and 2 iMacs in an Active Directory setup. One of the iMacs already had a clean install of Tiger on it and it works fine, but the others have stopped connecting. I have since upgraded the desktops to 10.4.9, but the problem is still there.
Specifically, when connecting to any PC share (Win2000 and Win2003 server) using SMB, the Connect button will not respond. When browsing using the Finder, the computers are all listed (possibly cached from the previous installation?) but when I try to connect to them it says that their aliases are broken.
Also, the desktops have a simple logon Applescript that attempts to mount the server's public share (using 'mount volume'). This stopped working with an 'error -36' message after the upgrade, which I believe relates to there being network issues.
    Any ideas?
iBook, PowerMac, iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Problem also occurs with 10.4.6

The server is actually 2003, with the desktops all being 2000. I went in to the local policy and I believe you're referencing these items -
    Domain Controller Local Policy
Disabled - Domain member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always)
Disabled - Domain member: Digitally encrypt secure channel data (when possible)
Disabled - Domain member: Digitally sign secure channel data (when possible)
    Domain Local Policy
Not Defined - Domain member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always)
Not Defined - Domain member: Digitally encrypt secure channel data (when possible)
Not Defined - Domain member: Digitally sign secure channel data (when possible)
Are these the correct items to change?
Also to note, we do have a fresh install of Tiger on an iMac and it's able to browse and connect to all shares on the network perfectly fine; it's just the upgraded Macs that are now encountering issues.

  • Can't connect to WIFI after upgrading to IOS 6

After upgrading to IOS6, my 4S stopped connecting any available wifi networks. It keep poping up "Unable to join the network "***" " when I tap any wifi spots I've been used so far. My problem is not like most people says. Instead of taking me the the apple website, mine doesn't even connected! This problem has been around for a week. I have to relay on 3G so far. I've tried resting the wifi setting, resting the iphone and even tried a lot of public wifi spots. It still doesn't work. Is it the problem of hardware? Help me, plz!

The solution lies in the router password encryption. There is the option WPA2 instead of current WPA/WPA2 on my router. I changed the setting to just WPA2 and it worked now. But the former option worked on iOS5.1.1. Thanks!
[Update]Turns out it is still unresolved. After the changing the encryption I restarted the router and it is still the luck I got before. The connection will not last long. Still unable to connect.
