ORA-01154: On Open After Cold Backup - No DataGuard

We have one 11.2.0.3 database that will occasionally fail to start with an ORA-01154 after a cold backup. It's a test database, so I usually just manually start it the next morning. I have seen this with standby databases running Data Guard, but never on a standalone database with no Data Guard. Anyone seen this behavior? It started after the database was upgraded from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.3.

Could it be whatever did the shutdown didn't complete? Do you have some automated process doing the shutdown? Why do you have cold backups?

    Umesh,
    Since it is case of Ora 600, for which only last solution is oracle support, but i would like to mention that your are getting ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [4193].... So, this 4193 is cause to read following links too:
    http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/47048/2/ and. see Metalink note 153788.1 and 39282.1.

    HI Naor,
    Do one thing,assign a password to the user and pass that password or pass "sapmdm" as password for Admin (default password).With SAP MDM 7.1 there is no blank password and such users wont work.
    Also for your reference please go through http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/80765a21-78f3-2b10-74a2-dc2ab57a1bd2?QuickLink=index&overridelayout=true
    Let me know your findings.
    Thanks,

    Hello forums users,
    I read many thing on this topic but I didn't find the good answer.
    I performed a cold backup each sunday.
    My database is in ARCHIVE LOG mode.
    Is it possible to restore ARCHIVE LOG files after restoring COLD backup?
    Sunday : cold backup
    Monday : new archive log have been created since cold backup
    Tuesday : same as Monday
    Wednesday : I would like to restore to Monday 22:00 for example

  • Cold backup for dataguard dbs

    There is request to take cold backup of primary & standby db , i am New to dataguard backups, Should i take backup of only primary db or both?

    Yes apps owner is insisting to take cold backup of both db this weekend(they are patching apps), and here are the step i had in mind to do that to stop , primary & llogical standby dbs , take cold backups ( scripts, usermanaged backups, dont have rman there) & start the dbs.
    On standby db
    SQL > set numformat “999999999999999”
    SQL > select newest_scn,applied_scn from dba_logstdby_progress ; (both should match)
    SQL > select thread#,sequence#,applied from dba_logstdby_log;
    SQL> select sequence#, status from v$archived_log;( on primary) Both sequence# should match
    on primary db
    SQL > alter system switch logfile ;
    SQL > alter system archive log current ; ( to make sure current transactions come thru)
    check tail of alert log of standby to make sure these redologs shipped & mined
    standby db
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE STOP LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY; (stop SQL Apply)
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    Lsnrctl stop listener_corp_remrpt-haprimary db
    SQL > shutdown immediate ;
    Lsnrctl stop listener_corp_remprd-ha
    Dont shutdown abort for any case, if both dbs are going down, first stop SQL apply on standby, take primary down and then take standby down)
    Startup
    primary
    SQL>startup;
    Lsnrctl start listener_corp_remprd-ha
    Standby
    SQL > startup
    SQL > alter database start logical standby apply immediate ;
    Lsnrctl start listener_corp_remrpt-ha

    With humble, how all you know that corrupted datafile is not belonging to system and undo tablespace? If this case, then do you think we can restore that corrupted cold-backup ? Sorry, but this is not the way to just start providing help without asking OP :
    1.Current Oracle Version ?
    2.Where he want to restore i.e. restoring platform info Oracle version OS ?
    3.After cold backup how he came to know that one datafile is corrupted ?
    4.When and how datafile became corrupted ?
    5.How he taken cold backup ? Was db running fine just before shut immediate for cold backing ?
    6.What he has done so far to restore the cold backup ?
    7.What error he is getting right now ?
    Here problem is corrupted datafile. So, first let come problem clear from OP, ask all missing question in one go, and then start helping is the right way... (my personal opinion, may be wrong!).

  • Need clarification for cold backup and recovery

    Hello Everyone ..
    I have much confusion on cold backup and recovery topic.
    Already i posted a scanario regarding this and i want to know some clarity points to understand.
    1. I had cold backup two days before
    2. I am creating an object *(EMP)* and inserting some records then issue log switch continiously.
    3. Manually i removed all physical files (datafiles , control files , log files , redolog files ...)
    4. then i issued STARTUP FORCE MOUNT;
    5. here i am getting error identifying control file.
    6. cold backup two days before all files restored
    6. then i issue recover database using backup controlfile until cancel;
    7. i am trying to issue select * from emp; i am getting error
    select * from emp
    *ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00942: table or view does not existMy QUESTION IS
    After cold backup finished , i created emp table ..
    when restoring old back " There is no emp table"
    *- then , can i recover emp table ? - If so , please explain about this ..*
    Note : REF - LINK https://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=11056341#11056341
    - Above link says what i did ? . In this thread i am asking concept & logic ..
    please do NOT consider as "*DUPLICATE*"

    When you recover the database using backup controlfile until cancel, you have to apply archived logs. Did you apply all of them?
    If the create command was in the online redo, not yet archived, and you lost the online redo, then you won't have it. This is why you want to have redo multiplexed, it is a critical piece.
    In some recovery scenarios, if you haven't lost the online redo, you need to specify those files as if they were archives.
    It is normally easier to just be sure you have the latest controlfiles and let Oracle figure it out automatically (which is why you want to use online RMAN backups rather than cold backups). But yes, it is important to understand what is going on for different scenarios. I used to have manual standbys, and one of the disaster instruction sets explained to try to get online redo over to the standby to lose as few transactions as possible. That could still be useful for some snapshot hardware type scenarios, assuming the business is too cheap to do proper failovers.

  • Cold backup in RAC envornment.

    Hi,
    Oracle 10g (10.2.0.1.0) With rac
    OS : HP-UX 11i
    I want to know in RAC enviornment which files including (datafiles,controlfiles,logfiles,spfile,password file,listner.ora,tnsnames.ora,sqlnet.ora) should be included in cold backup.
    Are there any cluster files that should be included in backup?
    Thanks.

    Actually, I deliberately chose to concentrate on the first and main part of the original question. You obviously think the line about 'Are there any cluster files that should be included' is worth concentrating on. Both approaches are valid, I think, but your choice doesn't mean I "forgot" anything.
    If, for example, I was to point out the voting disk on Windows is backed up with ocopy instead of dd, does that mean you "forgot" that fact? If I mention that there are five retained autobackups of the OCR, does the fact that you didn't mention that number mean you "forgot" it? Does the fact that I have just neglected to mention that the five retained backups are from 4, 8 and 12 hours ago plus 1 day and 1 week ago mean that I forgot those details?
    No: we all choose to structure and filter our comments as we see fit. One can add to and enhance someone else's comments without presuming to know the mind and intent of their author and passing judgement accordingly.
    For the record, I chose not to mention voting disks and OCR backups because the voting disk never needs backing up, but can be simply re-created and the OCR as you mention is automatically backed up frequently and a simple OS backup, suitably configured, can make sure those autobackup files are transferred somewhere safe (i.e., onto tape) without me having to schedule additional backups using ocrconfig.
    I accept your preferences will be different, but those happen to be mine.

  • ORA-00313: open failed for members during restore from COLD backup

    Hi all,
    I took a cold backup of an 11.1 database using RMAN (database in mount state).
    I used the following command to restore it:
    restored the controlfile and then
    RESTORE DATABASE FROM TAG 'TAGxxxxxxxxxx';
    Now I'm restoring it and it's taking too much time. When checking alert log it says:
    ORA-51106: check failed to complete due to an error. See error below
    ORA-48318: ADR Relation [HM_FINDING] of version=3 cannot be supported
    ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 1 of thread 1
    ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1: '/oracle1/oradata/******/redo1_02.log'
    ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
    HPUX-ia64 Error: 2: No such file or directory
    Additional information: 3
    RMAN is still in progress, why does it complain about redo?
    I'm not doing recovery since it was a cold backup.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Michael,
    Yes, it's the correct one because it says "full restore complete":
    ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1: '/oracle1/oradata/******/redo1_01.log'

  • ORA-00314 -  Restoring from Cold Backup.  ( Redologs on Raw Disk startup)

    Greetings,
    We're running Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production ( Solaris Sparc )
    we've recently switched to redologs on raw disks to improve DB write performance. Have taken a cold backup of db , But db denies to open normally after restoration.
    Any ideas what could be wrong? and how to fix this?
    TIA,
    SQL> startup;
    ORACLE instance started.

    ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1: '/dev/rdsk/c1t5d0s3'

    Try this ..
    First i create a backup of control file:
    SQL> alter database backup controlfile to trace;
    Database altered.
    Then i check udump directory. There are some trace files To find out which one contains control file, i simply make a text search :
    testdb oracle@aurora:/data06/app/oracle/admin/testdb/udump> grep 'CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE' *.*
    testdb_ora_181267.trc:CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "testdb" NORESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG
    testdb_ora_181267.trc:CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "testdb" RESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG
    I execute the commands which is included with CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE
    SQL> startup nomount
    ORACLE instance started.

  • ORA-00372 error after DB backup

    Hello,
    After performing a backup on tape using Amanda, one of the tablespaces is generating an ORA-00372 error. The DB is 10g1, on Solaris' SunOS 5.10.
    ORA-01110: data file 6: '[path]/filename.dbf'
    ORA-00372: file 6 cannot be modified at this time
    ORA-01110: data file 6: '[path]/filename.dbf'
    While trying to log in sqlplus as a regular user, I get the ORA-01033 message:
    ERROR:
    ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
    I can log in as sysdba, to find out that the DB is only mounted, when I issue an 'alter database open;' I get the 00372 error above.
    The RMAN backup sequence was the following:
    run {
    allocate channel ch1 type disk;
    backup
    incremental
    level=0
    database;
    release channel ch1;
    After the backup, the state of the DB was not checked, but some application process that used it stopped responding, so after trying to restart the process, a reboot command was issued from a shell - I don't know if this has anything to do with the actual state of the DB.
    - What can I do to get the DB to the open state ('alter tablespace ... online' doesn't work with the DB in mounted state)?
    - What possibly generated this particular situation?
    Thank you all for any ideas,
    Adrian

    I tried to retrieve the status of the tablespaces with the following query
    select     TABLESPACE_NAME, STATUS, CONTENTS
    from      dba_tablespaces
    order      by TABLESPACE_NAME
    but I cannot run it, as the DB is only mounted - I get the error:
    ORA-01219: database not open: queries allowed on fixed tables/views only
    Is there another way to find out? And I don't know how to find the status of the file...

  • Cold Backup ERROR ORA-01113

    Hi Friends,
    Oracle 10g R2 DB
    I have taken a cold backup pf my database.
    I shutdown the db, and copy all the datafile,logfile,controlfile to /u01/BACKUP_DB.
    Then I tried to test my backup by pointing all the dbfs to /u01/BACKUP_DB.
    startup mount
    alter database rename file ... to ...;
    alter database open;
    ORA-01113: file 1 needs media recovery
    ORA-01110: data file 1 '/u01/BACKUP_DB/system01.dbf'
    Where did I go wrong? :(
    I am sure I shutdown the database.
    Thanks a lot

    Why do I get ORA-01113 for the cold backup?
    To get some clue why ora-01113 error comes during backup and recovery review following link.
    I  recreated controlfile, but recover database failed!
