ORA-03113: end-of-file in startup
Hi,
on 11g R2 on Win 2008 I try to create a DB but I receive end of file error :
C:\Users\oracle>sqlplus / as sysdba
SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.3.0 Production on Fri Mar 2 10:07:45 2012
Copyright (c) 1982, 2011, Oracle. All rights reserved.
Connected to an idle instance.
SQL> @0_createdb10.sql
SQL> spool createdb.log
SQL>
SQL> startup nomount pfile=C:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_2\database\initTEST.ora
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel Thank for any suggestion.
First Set the ORACLE_SID
The SID can be set through the ORACLE_SID environment variable.
C:/../.../../>set ORACLE_SID=ORA10
Creating an Oracle Service
On Windows, each instance requires a Windows service. This service must first be created with oradim:
D:\oracle\product\11.1.0\Db_home>oradim -new -sid %ORACLE_SID% -intpwd MYSECRETPASSWORD -startmode M
Instance created.
It can be verified that a Windows service was created by typing services.msc into the console. A service named OracleServiceORA10 (ORA10 = %ORACLE_SID%) will be found. Also, the startup type is manual as was requested by -startmode M.
Creating the initialization parameter file
When an Oracle instance starts up, it requires either an initialization paramter file (init.ora) or an SPFILE.
SPFILES have binary content and must be created from init.ora files. Therefore, the init.ora file (which is an ordianary text file) is created first.
Here's a minimal init.ora (under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs if it is Unix, or %ORACLE_HOME%\database, if it is windows) just to demonstrate how the control files are found. Of course, you will add more init params into the init.ora file.
after creating an Oracle service and the init.ora file, start the instance:
connect to the instance
and
SQL> startup nomount
This created the SGA (System Global Area) and the background processes.
Creating the database
now you have to create the database:
SQL>run the Create database script....
If something goes wrong with the creation, Oracle will write an error into the alert.log. The alert log is normaly found in the directory that is specified with the background_dump_dest. If this parameter was not specified (as is the case in our minimal init.ora), the alert.log will be written into %ORACLE_HOME%/RDMBS/trace.
If an ORA-01031: insufficient privileges is returned, that means most likely, that the current user is not in the dba group (on unix), or the ORA_DBA (windows).
If the init.ora file is not at its default location or has not been found with the pfile attribute, an ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters and an LRM-00109: could not open parameter file '/appl/oracle/product/../initadpdb.ora' error is issued.
The create database command also executes a file whose name is determined by the (hidden) init parameter initsql_file (which seems to default to sql.bsq)
After the creation of the database, it can be mounted and opened for use.
Completing the DB creation
In order to complete the db creation, the following scripts must be run as sys:
%ORACLE_HOME%/rdbms/admin/catalog.sql
%ORACLE_HOME%/rdbms/admin/catproc.sql and
SQL*Plus provides a shortcut to refer to the ORACLE_HOME directory: the question mark (?). Therefore, these scripts can be called like so:

Help need for "ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel" on startup
Hi everyone,
After install the oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris 2.7, I can not start the oracle server, below is the problem I got,
$ ./svrmgrl
: Oracle Server Manager Release 3.1.7.0.0 - Production
: Copyright (c) 1997, 1999, Oracle Corporation. All Rights
: Reserved.
: Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production

: JServer Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production
: SVRMGR> connect internal
: Password: oracle
: Connected.
: SVRMGR> startup
: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
Can someone tell me what is wrong with my
oracle server? Thanks a lot.
nullHi,
the answer is simple. check first if TWO_TASK parameter is set to value from Ur tnsnames.ora. usually this environment variable must not be set for servers, only for client side. that means try 'unset TWO_TASK' and then should work.
best regards,

Seems these lines are telling the tale:
Symbol file E:\ORADB\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN\orannzsbb11.SYM does not match binary.
Symbol TimeStamp=4b62bd94, Module TimeStamp=0 are different
I don't understand why the symbol table doesn't match the binary unless someone 'stepped' on one of them (meaning overwrote them). Have you checked %ORACLE_HOME%\bin for file times?

The problem is clear in there. Your datafiles are corrupted!!!
While the database is trying to correct these, a lot of ORA-00600 and ORA-07445's are generated.

ORA-03113 end-of-file on channel communication
Hello at everyone:
I have a laptop pentium 133 MMX, 40 MB Ram, 2.1 GB.
I have been installed slackware 3.5, kernel 2.0.36, on it and
oracle 8 too.
I run svrmgrl, connect internal, everithing go well, but when
write the command "startup nomount" <ENTER>, oracle begin to work
and 2 seconds after, more or less, appear the message of the
subject.
I found the possibly means of this:
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
Cause: An unexpected end-of-file was processed on the
communication channel. The problem could not be handled by the
Net8, two task, software. This message could occur if the shadow
two-task process associated with a Net8 connect has terminated
abnormally, or if there is a physical failure of the interprocess
communication vehicle, that is, the network or server machine
went down.
Action: If this message occurs during a connection attempt, check
the setup files for the appropriate Net8 driver and confirm Net8
software is correctly installed on the server. If the message
occurs after a connection is well established, and the error is
not due to a physical failure, check if a trace file was
generated on the server at failure time. Existence of a trace
file may suggest an Oracle internal error that requires the
assistance of customer support.
------------------------------------------<^
This possibility, above |, i guess that not apply, because, i
work in any network, everything is local.
------------------------------------------<ORA-3113: end of file communication channel
Cause: An unexpected end-of-file was processed on the
communication channel. The TCP/IP retransmission count on Win
NT/95 has a default value of 5. This means that the send side
retransmits the packet five times or until it gets an
acknowledgment. The timeout for each retransmission is two times
the timeout for the previous retransmission (exponential
backoff). With the default value of 5, the send side retransmits
5 times (approximately. 15 seconds) and if it does not get an
acknowledgment. it assumes that the other side is down and closes
the connection. If the link goes down for a minute or two the
Net8 client receives this error.
Action: Modify the retransmission count.
Please see your Microsoft specific operating system manual for
more information on tuning the microsoft TCP/IP software.
----------------------------------------------<I got it from Oracle 8 documentation for W95/NT. I guess that it
is a good posibility. But how can to modify the retransmission
count under Linux?

On 9i RAC, one node gives ORA-03113: end-of-file on communica...
Hi,
working with:
9i RAC 9.2.0.2.0
HP Tru64 UNIX
SHMMAX is set to 6GB (box has total of 10GB+ memory)
I tried to make changes to SGA (db_cache and shared_pool) of 1 RAC node, but change gives below error during startup of RAC node 1 (while the other node is up and running with old settings):
Old pfile settings (works):
*.db_cache_size=512M
*.shared_pool_size= 1258291200 # (1200MB)
New pfile settings (gives above error)
*.shared_pool_size=805306368 # (768MB)
*.db_cache_size=1610612736 # (1536MB)
Error on node 1:
SQL> conn / as sysdba
Connected to an idle instance.
SQL> startup
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
After making new changed to pfile, I did startup, after about 2 minutes it gives the ‘ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication’ error, nothing is written to alert log about this startup and error. But reverting back to old pfile setting, works fine.
Thank you for all your help in advance.
RegardsWes... did you ever resolve this problem? If so we would be interested since we seem to have a similar siuation.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Wes Carberry ([email protected]):
We have tried to create an intermedia index using the syntax:
create index <index_name> on <table_name>(<blob_field_name>) indextype is ctxsys.context;
After about thirty seconds we get the following error:
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
We have tried to create this index using SQL-PLUS and the SQL Window of TOAD and on client machines as well as the db server itself with the same results each time.
Ideally we'd like to do this on a table of 4000 records, with the blob field populated with MS Word (each approx 40KB) documents. However, we have tried on tables of 4000, 3000, 2000, 1000, and 500 with no success. HOWEVER, we have tried it on a table of one record with success, so it seems to be an issue of scale.
When I try to delete the index, I get the following error:
ORA-29868: cannot issue DDL on a domain index marked as LOADING
Does this mean that the index is still trying to load (it has been over 14 hours since I last executed the command)?
Thanks for your help in advance.

OS : Windows 2003 server
DB: 10 r2
Oracle Service ORCL -Configured with autostart
After shutting down the database
the instance is also automatically shuts down
followed by
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
hence i need to restart the ORACLE INSTANCE MANUALLY by issuing the following command
ORADIM -STARTUP -SID ORCL -STARTTYPE SRVC -SPFILE
Now I have to re-connect to oracle instance [Idle Instance ] then start the database as normal
Any suggestions and solutions are welcomed !What do you mean with 'instance' here,the Windows service? A shutdown command in sqlplus always shuts down the Oracle instance,i.e. background processes and SGA allocation, existing sessions throw ORA-03113. . If you shutdown the service (in services panel or by 'net stop OracleServiceORCL), all goes down.

Convrtd to Invterval Part- ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
Hi all,
I had a table as Interval Partitioned. In order to create XML- Xpath indexes on it, I converted it to Range Partitioned table.
I am able to create the XPATH indexes but I get the error: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
- When I revert the code to Interval Partitioned without the XMLIndex, it works fine(although takes time as no XML Index)
- When I convert table to non partitioned table, create the XML Index, it works fine.
But I need the partitons, so when I create the partitioned table I get the error.
CREATE TABLE INT_PART_TABLE
DB_ID VARCHAR2(10 BYTE),
xML_mESSAGE SYS.XMLTYPE,
LOAD_TIMESTAMP TIMESTAMP(6)

xmlns:xyz="XYZA"
end;
create index INDX_XPATHS on "INT_PART_TABLE" (XML_MESSAGE) indextype is xdb.xmlindex
parameters ('PARAM Indx_Par') local;
Now if I execute the following statement in
SELECT T.xML_mESSAGE
FROM INT_PART_TABLE1 T
WHERE XMLEXISTS (
declare namespace abc="ABCD";
declare namespacedef="DEFG";
declare namespace xyz="XYZA";
let $tt as xs:boolean := fn:exists($p/main/id = ("144283","9085802")])
return if ($tt) then true()
else ()'
PASSING T.xML_mESSAGE AS "p");
- Is there any other way of writing this Select statement, which may work?
- Any other thing I need to take care of when defining the table and partitions script so that I don't get this error?Hi,
I think it's time you give a clear (and working) test case so that we can safely try to reproduce the issue.
What you've given so far has syntax error and name mismatch.
So please :
- database version (SELECT * FROM v$version)
- complete sequence of DLLs
- some sample XML documents (it doesn't have to be the real ones, but at least something realistic)
Thanks in advance.
declare namespace abc="ABCD";
declare namespacedef="DEFG";
declare namespace xyz="XYZA";
let $tt as xs:boolean := fn:exists($p/main/id = ("144283","9085802")])

Error ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel in droppping a table
Good evening,
I am very new on Oracle and I have a problem with some tables. Without any reason, apparently, I can't drop some of my table. Oracle gives me this error:
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
and then close the connection of the user.
What I should have to do?
It is very important.
Thanks a lot
best regards
Anna ZanettiGood morning, I still have the same problem, I can't drop a table from my database.

ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel while executing a query
Hi all,
I am getting following error while executing one of the query.
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
The query involves subqueries. At one point, in the second last condition of the whole query is the cause. what makes the query to disconnect from database.
I am pasting the whole query with highlighted part causing the error.
select
A.Num_Employee_Id as col_0_0_,
A.Str_Name_For_Reports as col_1_0_
from
Est_Esb_employee_m A
where
A.num_office_id=1
and A.Num_Employee_Id not in
(select
B.Num_Employee_Id
from
Est_Esb_Employee_Service_D B
where
B.Chr_Curr_Status='N'
and
B.Dat_Effective_Date is not null
and
B.Dat_Effective_Date=
(select
max(C.Dat_Effective_Date)
from
Est_Esb_Employee_Service_D C
where
C.Num_Employee_Id=B.Num_Employee_Id
and C.Dat_Effective_Date is not null
and B.Num_Transaction_Id=
(select
max(D.Num_Transaction_Id)
from
Est_Esb_Employee_Service_D D
where
D.Dat_Effective_Date=
(select
max(E.Dat_Effective_Date)
from
Est_Esb_Employee_Service_D E
where
Num_Employee_Id=D.Num_Employee_Id
and D.Num_Employee_Id=B.Num_Employee_Id
and B.Num_New_Office_Id=1
order by
A.Str_First_Name,
A.Str_Middle_Name,
A.Str_Last_Name
Awaiting your valuable suggestions.
Regards
Vijay KumarI would start by compareing the explain plan of both versions of the statement.
Also by adding such a restriction you might change from an uncorrelated subquery to a correlated subquery. I'm not sure, because your code is hardly readably without formatting.
In any case you seem to select again and again from the same table. Maybe you should find a way to optimize to query in terms of io (less table access). Then this problem could go away. -
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel while running utlrp.sql
Hi All,
I am getting ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel while running utlrp.sql.
Actually I ran utlrp.sql before in my test database and terminated the session in middle after that when ever I am running utlrp.sql i am getting the above error.
how to resolve the issue.
KiranHi,
Check as follows;
select owner,object_name,object_type from dba_objects where object_name like
'UTL%'The objects should only belong to SYS, if they do belong do some other user (example HR, etc). Drop objects belong to other users (not sys).
Then connect as sys as sysdba and rerun the script utlrp.sql.
