Ora-03113 problem

When I used more than 80 processes to connect to oracle8.1.6 server on linux6.2, I found the db server didn't work.
On the client end ,it reported error ora-03113.
On the server, the alert file reported error ora-601 and pmon shutdown. I don't know the causes. Who can tell me why?
Thanks in advance!

I used to have the same problem when trying to create database after installing Oracle 8.1.7 on my machine with linux on it. Then I realized I forgot to install the patch which oracle suggested before creating the database. It is now fine after installing the patch. I could able to create the database with out the 'Communication Problem'. Look for any patches required for Solaris environment Oracle 8.1.7. If so, you can download them from the technet site. It will be typically called 'jdk-lib2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz'...
Good Luck

  • Ora-03113 and no oracle process found in SuSE10.1

    I just installed Oracle10.2 on SuSE10.1.
    When created database, the ora-03113 occured.
    And other results are:
    ps -ef can't find any Oracle process,
    ipcs can't find any Oracle process either.
    the question is how to start the backgroud process manually?
    And how to solve the ora-03113 problem?
    I know it's very complicated. :)
    Roy

    yes. i can follow these steps. all envs are correct, i think.
    i didn't create the database successfully, so when i startup the instance using startup nomount, the error ora-03113 occurs too.
    the bad thing is I can't find any error messages in BACKGROUND_DUMP or other placess.
    How can I handler this?

  • ORA-03113 end-of-communication channel (Oracle8.1.6, Powerbuilder)

    I have an Oracle server 8.1.6 sitting in California.
    There's a group in Cleveland accessing our Oracle server (directly to the IP address) through several different applications (Crystal Reports v.8, Powerbuilder application v.7).
    Regardless of what they use, they are constantly getting the ORA-03113 error after about 5 minutes of inactivity.
    They do not have any problems connecting to Oracle, it's only after some minutes of inactivity.
    In california however we never get this ORA-03113 problem (using same Oracle database, same Powerbuilder application etc).
    I don't know if this is useful but here's what the database profile in Powerbuilder looks like:
    [Database]
    DBMS=O84 ORACLE 8.0.4
    ServerName=DB_ORACLE
    Database=DB_ORACLE
    UserID=
    DatabasePassword=
    LogId=login
    LogPassword=passwd
    DbParm=
    Thanks for any help.
    Tina

    The ORA-03113 indicates that either the client or the server has taken some action to close an active connection. This most commonly occurs when a query exceeds a time threshold and is cancelled by the ODBC driver. By default, ODBC doesn't impose a statement timeout, but many applications which use ODBC do. From your post, however, I'm not sure this is a plausible explanation for your problem... When you say "5 minutes of inactivity", are you referring to the application being completely idle for 5 minutes or are you referring to the application chugging on a query for 5 minutes and then generating the error?
    Depending on how the network is configured, it may be that the Oracle server is erroneously determining that the Cleveland connections have been abandoned. I have no idea what the mechanics of this would be-- I'm just assuming that such a capability must exist, and guessing that it might have problems with connections where there's a high latency or network wierdness. You might try disabling connection pooling for the Oracle ODBC driver (in the ODBC Data Source Administrator). That will force ODBC to create new connections to the database, rather than holding on to old connections for reuse. If it works, there will likely be a performance hit because of this.

  • ORA-02068; ORA-03113 ::DB Link Problems

    Hi,
    I have created a DB Link from to our client database MARS & i have named it as "MARS_DATA".
    But my problem is whenever i query the data using 2 tables in it with a proper join condition using DB Link i am getting the following error.
    ORA-02068: following severe error from MARS_DATA
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
    NOTE:
    Whenever i query the MARS database with a single table in it i am getting the data.(Using DB Link only)
    Most surprising thing for me is when i am trying to execute the Errored out query after running the above it is working fine!!!
    Can you help me in resolving this issue?

  • ORA-03113 and ORA-03114 problems

    Hi,
    I'm experimenting Oracle8i. I'm installing 8.1.7 to RedHat Linux 7.0 out of box without recompiling the kernel. I set the SHMMAX to 0.5*258MB memory on the machine by echoing the number to /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax.
    I checked that the system meets the requirements of Oracle's Installation Guide except SEMOPM. The RedHat Linux 7.0 sets it to 32, but Oracle requires 100.
    I chose Oracle8i EE Typical Installation. The installation was ok to the point of running root.sh. Several syntax errors occur from root.sh. But they are minor syntax errors. I checked the code, regardless of errors, the scripts accomplished what it intends to do. The installation continued. I choose automatic configure Net8 when it ran Net8 Configuration Assistant and the Net8 Configuration was completed successful.
    When it started Oracle Database Configuration Assistant, it created a database. But when it initialized the database, error messages ORA-03114 and ORA-03113 appeared many times. Each time, I chose to ignore. The final message was "Database creation completed with warnings."
    After installation, I ran svrmgrl
    $svrmgrl
    SVRMGR> connect INTERNAL
    Connected.
    SVRMGR> startup
    ORA-03113 end-of-file on communication channel
    Checking the meaning of error messages, it says that if ORA-03113 occurs during a connection attempt, check the setup files for the appropriate Net8 driver and confirm Net8 software is correctly installed on the server.
    During installation, I chose Local naming method. There are following files in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/
    listener.ora
    sqlnet.ora
    tnsnames.ora
    shrept.lst
    To my layman's eye, they looked ok. I can even telnet to the linux machine with database name, although I don't know how the machine has acquired the alias without any changes to /etc/named.conf nor any changes to any files in /var/named directory.
    Please tell me what is correctly installed Net8? or what went wrong and how I should fix the problem.
    Thanks,
    Wayne

    I seem to have 8.1.7 creating a database with RH Linux 7.1 now. This was an important clue, since 7.1 hiccups 65% into the link phase of installation, thereby requiring the stubs patch to be run at that time, whereas 7.0 runs quite happily through the install & link without using the patch.
    HOWEVER... before invoking dbassist to create the database under 7.1, you apparently need to export ASSUME_LD_LIBRARY = 2.2.5, etc., again, as you would do for the first time installing under RH 7.0.

    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
    Please guide me what to do to resolve this problem
    Farhad

    The error, ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel, is a client driver error.
    The client driver simply says "hey, the database server process servicing me has torn down our communication channel!". The communication channel is usually a TCP socket connection.
    The client driver has no idea why. Thus you have to find the answer on the server.
    The usual cause of this communication channel being closed, is the Oracle server process servicing the client session, crashing.
    When an Oracle server process crashes, it does not tell the client. It usually writes an entry to the Oracle alert log, dump a trace file, and terminates. When terminating, it tears down any communication channels (TCP sockets) it may have opened.
    Therefore you must look in
    - the alert log file for an error message listing the crash (which will include the dump file name)
    - look at this trace dump file (which is difficult if you're not familiar with Oracle internals)
    - investigate the stack trace and error codes on Metalink (which often turns up the bug notes for this, plus any workarounds or available patches)
    Usually however, one should log these types of Oracle server errors as a TAR with Oracle Support.

    What I should have to do?

  • Remote Connection Timeouts - ORA-03113 Errors

    I have two Sun Solaris servers running Oracle 10.1.0.4. One is our production server, the other is our test server. Both servers are using the same parameters in the SQLNET.ORA file located on each server. All Oracle Net files are located under /var/opt/oracle. The TNS_ADMIN environmental variable is set to /var/opt/oracle on both servers.
    When I connect to the production server via TOAD, OEM, or SQL*Plus from my desktop, I can remain connected as long as I like. If after two hours, I want to run another SQL, I type it in and it runs.
    When I connect to the test server via TOAD, OAM, or SQL*Plus from my desktop, I can remain connected for only 30 mins of inactivity. After which, if I issue a new SQL statement, I receive an ORA-03113 end-of-file communication channel error.
    I believe I've checked everything on both servers and they appear identical. Both of these server sit behind a firewall. So my feeling is that only the firewall could be causing the idle timeout connections to be dropped on the test server.
    Anyone have any ideas on this??
    P.S. - I realize that killing idle connections is actually a good thing, but I'm trying to verify the reason for the difference and not whether this is or is not a good networking practice.

  • ORA-03113 using Database Link

    Asking help Urgently..
    We need to create a DB link from 7.3 to 10g. After initial problems, the DB link is finally established and we can query and do DML on the 10g DB from 7.3. using SQLPLUS.
    Now the problem: We want to create triggers on tables in 7.3 DB to insert the same rows in 10g DB using the DB Link. The moment we create the trigger the connection is dropped with the error: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel. We tried to write the insert statement inside a procedure/function but still the same problem.
    Please help as we are desperate to find a solution for the said problem. The objective is to be able to insert a row in 10g (DB Linked) Database based on a trigger fired in 7.3 Database (Reference DB). Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks and regards.
    Rajeev.

    I know that 7.x to 10g is not supported officially and should not be used in production environment.
    But in our case, we need it for a short duration (duration of Parallel run) and my query is that, if I am able to do inserts from the SQLPLUS using the said DB Link, then why this cannot be done thru a procedure or a trigger.
    if anyone has an explanation or workaround, it will be great.
    Rajeev.

    I would start by compareing the explain plan of both versions of the statement.
    Also by adding such a restriction you might change from an uncorrelated subquery to a correlated subquery. I'm not sure, because your code is hardly readably without formatting.
    In any case you seem to select again and again from the same table. Maybe you should find a way to optimize to query in terms of io (less table access). Then this problem could go away.

    AJC MAILTRIGGER STH Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-03113 (DBD ERROR: OCIStmtExecute)

    An ORA-03113 error would mean that the connection to the database no longer exists so any attempt to get the error message from the the database would result in an error. I think the real issue might be why was the session interrupted.
    03113, 00000, "end-of-file on communication channel"
    Depending on the front-end tool a pointer error or failure to properly terminate a string could result in corrupting the message to Oracle.
    There have been numerous bugs over the years that have resulted in this error message being returned. I notice that the Oracle version, platform, edition, and client tool set are not mentioned in the post. All this would potentially be important information for someone to recognize what might be the problem.
    I would look very closely at the code " at hcommon.pm line 1277 "

    Hi,
    Looks like your archivelog space is exhausted. Increase the db_recovery_file_dest_size size and check.
    SQL>  show parameter db_recovery
    NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE
    db_recovery_file_dest                string      /oracle/flash_recovery_area
    db_recovery_file_dest_size           big integer 3882MRegards,

  • ORA-03113 : end-of-file on communication channel while running a SQL Query

    Hi,
    While executing the following query, we are facing ORA-03113 : EOF on communication channel error.
    SELECT
    FROM QDF_CLSS_SHENG_HIST
    /*WHERE* a.FACT_TYPE_CODE='BS'
    AND */
    WHERE (SRCE_SYS_ID = 850 OR (SRCE_SYS_ID IN (1747,1764) AND GEO_ID IN (826,372) AND PRTTN_BY_FUNC_DATE>=to_date('20060701','YYYYMMDD') ))
    When we remove one of the values in the SRCE_SYS_ID's 'IN' condition the error is not thrown, e.g.
    WHERE (SRCE_SYS_ID = 850 OR (SRCE_SYS_ID IN (1747) AND GEO_ID IN (826,372) AND PRTTN_BY_FUNC_DATE>=to_date('20060701','YYYYMMDD') ))
    The version of the Database we are using is 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bi. Is this a common error in this version of the database because when we ran the same query in a 9i database we got no such error.
    P.S : QDF_CLSS_SHENG_HIST table is partitioned on SRCE_SYS_ID and PRTTN_BY_FUNC_DATE
    Thanks,
    Puneeth

    Yes, we get the same error and no dumps are getting created.It might be interesting to look at a trace file for this SQL statement with event 10046 at level 12 and event 10053 at level 1 enabled for the session. You may need to modify the query slightly to make certain that a hard parse is required (possibly by specifying a couple of the column names to be returned rather than *). Take a look through the raw trace file for something like this
    cost: -1.#IND  card: 1.#INFThere is at least one query in the ERP package that I use that will output the following in a 10053 trace when optimizer_features_enable is greater than 10.1.0.4, followed by an ORA-600:

    Ants

    Ants,
    I run the test on my laptop Windows XP 32 + Oracle EE 11.1.0.7.0. I broke off the statement after my machine was 100% CPU bound for over 15 min.
    I used a local BEQ SQL*Plus connection to connect to the database. The database showed in that time no trace or any indication of a segmentation vault.
